If I remember correctly the reason that headstomper was hated was because it was actually bugged I remember seeing a max damage head stomper deal less damage than 2 atgs and yeah 57 leaf clover is worse now because bands aren't %chance items anymore and with more items in the game it is less likely to get the %chance items when it was considered the best item it was practically guaranteed to get at least 5 proc chance items before stage 5.
I love describing why headstompers is so good to people because when most people think upfront damage they look at the funny 40k diablo, so when I tell them headstompers is a quarter of that every 10 seconds with very little cast time they always immediately pick it up from the soup
@carterklassen405 even ignoring the damage, it is extra mobility, the best thing you can have in the game, and an immunity to fall damage. No matter your level of understanding saying headstompers is bad is bad is an L take.
Scorpion is omega-cracked against Mithrix. His adaptive armor means that if you attack him at a reasonably fast speed, the damage you do will steadily decrease - unless you have the scorpion, in which case you'll shred through all that new resistance he keeps cooking up.
I remember my first red item. I was like 10 hours in the game, (didn't know about the stage 4 stuff) and kinda confused on why I wasn't getting any red. Finally got a behemoth out of a chest, shot a beetle guard to death, and went "ah, this is why red items are so rare, huh". One of the best red items on feeling alone. So good.
I distinctly remember my first 2 red experiences. The first was me grabbing a Dio's best friend, which saved me the first time I ever beat Mithrix, but I like the second one more. I was playing loader for the first time, and I was trying to loop to obliterate and unlock mercenary, when I ended up on Siren's Call. Because I already beat AWU to get Loader, I figured it was fitting to beat it again with the new survivor. That fight took me way too long, but I was rewarded with a Hardlight Afterburner. The feeling I got after I picked it up and realized that it gave me 3 extra punches was the best moment I've had in this game. Needless to say the rest of that run was a cakewalk.
Oh man mine is absolutely hilarious. So. First time playing risk of rain. My friend is introducing the game to me. I open my first chest. It's afterburner. The run ends about 3 minnutes later when I did a tactical roll into the explosion radius of the booby trap they got on their chest.
more red items should have "base effects" that make them exciting to pick up, even if you don't have the build for it. like the way headstompers (giving you a higher jump height so you can have a weak test-drive of the kinetic explosion) or spare drone parts (with col. droneman) do it. imagine if laser scope gave you a +20% crit chance on the first stack (with diminishing returns), or if ICBM shot out a trio of missiles every 10 seconds etc. like you said, items like brilliant behemoth really FEEL like legendary items: they give you that dopamine rush when you see them. all reds should feel like that.
underappreciated fact of scorpion: while armor reduction asymptotically approaches 2x damage (already huge), when you keep stacking it, you can nullify mithrix's (and voidling's) adaptive armor passives. for those who didn't know, sufficient burst damage can momentarily take those bosses up to +400 armor bonus. with enough scorpion stacks, your damage against them will be far more consistent. if you have a crowdfunder on loader or something, you'll notice your fire bands doing a lot more damage.
I think one of the bigger oversights with daggers is while they're not missiles in a literal sense, they ARE missiles in a mechanical and gameplay sense (alongside n'kuhana's opinion and little disciple) and should really combo with ICBM. This would also help patch up their diminishing performance as you get deeper into runs and small mobs become less common.
i think its always worth noting with a list like this, that item quality can be vastly different in an eclipse run and in a looped monsoon run. you touched on it a little bit, where clover is MUCH better in a looped run (so much so that i'd say its the best, even over HS which are SLIGHTLY less valuable in monsoon) i also completely agree that the behemoth is such a fun item, we need more silly reds (icbm too)
Personally I think he’s overrating the hell out of behemoth. Behemoth is fun and has some cool tech, but 60% damage pales in comparison to the power of clover. Even in a single loop, not finding even just a couple proc items is a little unrealistic. Behemoth is literally just 3 watches. Would you rather have 3 watches or a clover? Lol

commented on an older video but still want to bring this up again for people who don't know: acrid can utilize headstompers super effectively without wax quail. unless its been patched recently, timing a jump and your utility straight up in the air with headstompers will launch you up into the sky - no trimping involved. This can be used to skip commencement and to utilize the slam without a quail or any movement items. I was a very early adopter for headstompers and knew about it's strength as soon as acrid came out when the game was still in EA. I've never seen anyone talk about it (though admittedly i haven't been into RoR2 youtube until lately so someone very well may have already)
Brilliant Behemoth is the only item which copies the proc ability traits, like Acrid Bite's Slayer effect which deals more damage the less health an enemy has, allowing for the explosion to deal more damage than the initial hit

Brilliant Behemoth was the first red I picked up back in the original RoR. It's the moment the game clicked for me and it stands as THE Risk of Rain item in my mind.
I will say my only grip about hardlight afterburner on loader is the fact that the extra two charges don’t go on cooldown until after you stop holding punch. So I’ll find myself using/wasting all three then being stuck in the loop of only having one stacked up for a while

So an item that means you don't feel the effects of stat downs is theoretically busted on said strong items but in a weak run won't do you much, where rearranging your stats and converting large amounts of your range and projectile speed into movement speed, fire rate and damage will salvage almost any weak run, and when your speed is high enough it will convert the remaining gains all to the dps stats, salvaging almost any bad situation. But the community refuses to believe rock bottom isn't a top 3 item because they can't imagine getting an item without a synergy
Headstompers is literally the only item in the game that I kinda refuse to use when I get it because I feel it trivializes things so much (as long as you have a quail) and while there are other things that are like that as well, I just find headstompers unfun because you do the same simple thing of jumping and slamming over and over again. Although it still is satisfying watching the whole stage die.
Yeah I just did a run with acrid and I chose headstompers because I had never used it before, little did I know I would be jumping thousands of feet into the air and slamming down with acrids ground slam + the stomp and one-shotting everything including Mithrix
When I was new to the game I always found head stompers lack luster and tricky to use, preferring the instant gratification of stuff like Behemoth or Daggers. But man when you learn how to use it, the entire game completely changes as you just become a god.
I think the reason clover is considered *the* Ror2 item is because it is the best item in the entire game for looping, and during early access the only way to beat a run was by obliterating or you just went for a long run until you died
clover was widely considered the best because it was back when there was alot more chance items such as bands being chanvce and had more op chance items like sticky bomb peak

I mean, if it works to skip pillars then it works. Don't think there needs to be a ranking on what is the most effective, just depends on what you get.
1) h0st skip with headset 2) vase 3) wings 4) h0st skip with safer spaces + 2-3 movement speed items 5) egg with fuel cell 6) trimping up with tons of movement speed or with quails 7) hardlight afterburner for merc/rex/non-blink huntress 8) captain nuking himself
@itioticginger9520 yeah I mainly just want a good video on how to do the Head Stompers skip along with a few others. None of the ones I found really explained it
@@mr.newvegas1704 I know I really don’t need to tell you this, but both of Huntresses mobility abilities have blink in them. The alt is called “phase blink”.
As much as I understand why Headstompers got #1, I still hate them. It just throws me off to an extent that it feels kind of like playing with extreme lag. I honestly wish they just implemented the original headstompers instead, though understandably that would be much more complicated to implement in a 3D environment
I think the Headstompers is a good item. No fall damage, extra jump height and a mini nuke on standby? Sounds wonderful! HOWEVER, there is an issue with it for me. What usually keeps me away from it is what I describe as the "floatiness" when you have one. If it didn't feel like I was floating in the air for an uncomfortably long time; I'd probably would pick it up every single time I saw it.
the increased jump height does feel a little weird at first but it has the side effect of making it really hard for enemies to hit you if you keep jumping that alone improves your survivability so much
I honestly think drone parts is the best red its the only red that basically guarantees a win on any survivor you just need to not get terrible luck on drones.
Has anyone noticed (this might be only on console) that Headstompers jump height got hella increased with the devotion update? I’ve been playing since the update came out and realized with no movement speed and no quails I was jumping higher than the central spire on sirens call (the one that the reds spawn out of after defeating AWU)
triple arrow huntress with attack speed items (specifically pred instincts and syringe), max crit, and knives is broken. did this run a while ago so that might not be exactly correct
never know what reds to chose (i like doin command runs sometimes cuz its fun to just blow everything away without question), usually i take 57 leaf first as a safe bet, and after that its whatever jumps out at me, now i think ill take far more headstompers, droneparts, and scorpions.
[0:01] yea these things are broken. i'd use them more but i don't like afk builds as much [1:11] the new artifact (devotion) slaps with this. sadly rarely use it due to afk+lack of fitting in builds [2:25] overshadowed by scorpion but slaps hard, also better for vengeance [5:34] me when nuclear warfare is good (why does mul-t's rocket not work with this) [6:37] really good, but if your umbra steals this you're dead [8:02] this is so broken on so many levels, but artificer's ion not being a utility will forever break me [9:02] this thing works so well, but the void version is just so much more *funni* [10:22] i really want more items like this, it is so fun to just have an army of minions swarm everything [11:07] mul-t nailgun with this slaps hard. [12:26] i knew this would be here. i agree and disagree with this, it's got some sick mobility and is helpful but i personally just prefer the more chaotic reds that make me deal damage or just become insanely powerful
Ranking behemoth over droneman is a crime. Imagine having an item that literally wins the whole game for you regardless of character, and then imagine having 3 watches. That’s the difference, except the watches don’t break
To be fair, Behemoth makes your AoE quadratic because enemies in range all get hit by each other’s detonations (I assume.) That said, hard to beat a survivor-agnostic “your free win, madam” from your army of robot maids.
Head stompers is definitely a top 5 item but i cant agree with it being 1, again its offensive capability is situational and its defensive capability is imo sloghtly worse than just a hopoo feather. Always super nice to get but a lot of the time you wont be able to make the most of it
Headstompers can be as strong as they want to make it, could clear the whole stage and the complete the teleporter in one stomp, and I still wouldnt use it because its annoying lol

I sometimes just stomp to the ground if I’ve been in the air for too long. It’s not all that optimal, but it helps.
the increased jump height does feel a little weird at first but it has the side effect of making it really hard for enemies to hit you if you keep jumping
that alone improves your survivability so much
Surprised clover wasn’t higher but yeah reasoning was solid
There is no possible way you legitimately ranked Tesla coil above daggers 💀💀💀💀💀
Bosses, bro. Mithrix kinda just…. Doesn’t gaf
I'm still trying to beat monsoon on all the survivors and almost every single time I win. It's because I have headstompers.
I love how there was no intro at all
no way he said the ta ta thing what an awesome catchphrase
I love op dlc items, all my homies love op dlc items.
Please do a crazy run with artifact of devotion, and shipping request form. At like the fourth stage you start getting reds left and right
glad to see you siding with your grandson in the jimmy beef! such a great grandfather.
I thought they were adding Jimmy in the new dlc. Didn’t realize he was here already.
Yeah I got that and it was basically a free run. Such a ridiculous bug, but I’m not complaining.
@@Shhhhh183yea it makes the pillar skip require far less quails and movement items it’s essentially free
@@MoldyCrowChannel it also just allows you to essentially one shot everything with the stomp because the jump is so high.
Thank you for this list I was having a lot of trouble against jimmy
triple arrow huntress with attack speed items (specifically pred instincts and syringe), max crit, and knives is broken. did this run a while ago so that might not be exactly correct
No, you’re right. I run this build all the time on huntress. It gets even more cracked if you get a shatterspleen boss item, behemoth as well
I am in disbelief how there are people that still think HeadSetV2 is bad
never know what reds to chose (i like doin command runs sometimes cuz its fun to just blow everything away without question), usually i take 57 leaf first as a safe bet, and after that its whatever jumps out at me, now i think ill take far more headstompers, droneparts, and scorpions.
[0:01] yea these things are broken. i'd use them more but i don't like afk builds as much
[1:11] the new artifact (devotion) slaps with this. sadly rarely use it due to afk+lack of fitting in builds
[2:25] overshadowed by scorpion but slaps hard, also better for vengeance
[5:34] me when nuclear warfare is good (why does mul-t's rocket not work with this)
[6:37] really good, but if your umbra steals this you're dead
[8:02] this is so broken on so many levels, but artificer's ion not being a utility will forever break me
[9:02] this thing works so well, but the void version is just so much more *funni*
[10:22] i really want more items like this, it is so fun to just have an army of minions swarm everything
[11:07] mul-t nailgun with this slaps hard.
[12:26] i knew this would be here. i agree and disagree with this, it's got some sick mobility and is helpful but i personally just prefer the more chaotic reds that make me deal damage or just become insanely powerful
Opinion accepted (it correlates with my own)
😂😂😂 the eric andre clip for clover is so accurate😂😂😂😂😂
BABE WAKE UP DISPUTED FINALLY POSTED THE RED TIER LIST
Yo disputed, what mic do you use?
5:59 you did not need to say that lmao
Jimmy knows what he did
Corrupted missiles have 100% hit chance once you had a mixed urn 🤷🏻♂️
Did I miss the crit damage one?
Ranking behemoth over droneman is a crime. Imagine having an item that literally wins the whole game for you regardless of character, and then imagine having 3 watches. That’s the difference, except the watches don’t break
I agree that it should not be higher, but behemoth is still insane for both damage and aoe, I would put it 4th and move droneman and clover up
To be fair, Behemoth makes your AoE quadratic because enemies in range all get hit by each other’s detonations (I assume.)
That said, hard to beat a survivor-agnostic “your free win, madam” from your army of robot maids.
Yall are no fun
If you don't get the RNG of getting drones each stage, it is useless. Behemoth is always useful. The end.
@@ianirwin8501 pretty sure you reliably get drones in any run you don’t Artifact them out.
W Kaggers Jumpscare
today in risk of rain 2 we're MEWING
Head stompers is definitely a top 5 item but i cant agree with it being 1, again its offensive capability is situational and its defensive capability is imo sloghtly worse than just a hopoo feather. Always super nice to get but a lot of the time you wont be able to make the most of it
Is Jimmy just a placeholder for the children in SotS?
Edit: 5:06: Aye my man is cultured 😎
gramps is sick of giving birthday money to jimmy
Headstompers can be as strong as they want to make it, could clear the whole stage and the complete the teleporter in one stomp, and I still wouldnt use it because its annoying lol
Rip meat hooks, free my boy
