Compliments for this clear and especially honest information from your own points of view. For someone who is not an English speaker from birth, what you explain is very easy to follow. Thanks and keep going like this!
Thanks David! Same mold as you know, but this one has some key internals I like...mainly the lighter 85 amp esc. Reversing is handy for some as well I reckon.
Adam, Very good review. As you know, I've had my 70mm Viper for about 2 years and made a mess of videos on how to land and modify it for optimal performance and some structural upgrades that are a real benefit. This new Viper seems like Eflite really made many of the tweaks we've been commenting on for a while. I'm really happy that you've pointed out all the setup configurations that will help pilots get the most from their Viper without bouncing it down the runway and busting the gear off.. (which is the most common issue).. Great video and HONEST review.. Hope you have lots more fun with your new toy...
Nice job on the video. I have the V1 with upgraded landing gear. The Viper is a really solid EDF jet. I like the way you show grass ops and sport aerobatics. Great to see this plane improved with bigger motor, better landing gear and tires. Adam, nice job.
Thanks 🙏🏾 for giving an honest review of this viper.. I’ve had a viper for just over a year now bcos a reviewer said it was a good beginner jet. Wrong, it’s absolutely not. Like you said Habu Sts 70mm is by far a true beginner jet and personally, i would not recommend a viper jet to any beginner until they have flown something like the Habu and be comfortable flying it in an advance mode with a 4S battery. Then try the viper. The viper is for an intermediate/advance jet pilots.
Thanks for the comment, and we are glad you enjoyed our review! It can be tough trying to get the suggestion right for who a plane may be suited for in a review. Everybody is different. For instance, an advanced 3D or even a really good sport pilot could fly the Viper as their first EDF. That said, pilots like that are more skilled than the average RC pilot, so we try to keep in mind that all skill levels will see our review and we are cautious in our recommendations.
A really great intro to this new model Adam. Looking good. It is so similar ( probably the same factory) as the new FMS Viper livery. I have both the original E-Flite Viper & Roc hobby/fFMS Super Viper & love them. You certainly know how to handle R/C aircraft mate. Well done to you both✔️✔️✔️
Excellent review & flying, as usual Adam! Nice that you also clearly demonstrated the effects of flying nose-heavy! (So many RCers nowadays have the symptoms of being nose-heavy & tail-heavy exactly backwards.) It's also great that you explained that despite the skill level 2 rating, it's not intended to be an EDF trainer - especially not for those who haven't flown anything faster than a Timber on 4s. I've never been much of an EDF guy (only one I have is the old original UMX MiG 15), mainly due to the short flight-times & big packs needed. But this one has got me interested. Especially if I can get ~4.5-5 min of mixed flying on a 6s 4000! The grass-friendly strut retracts are also a big improvement over many EDFs in this size range. And the fan actually sounds like a little turbine instead of an angry hair-dryer!😎
Hey Joel! Thanks my friend, we appreciate that. I had a lot of fun with it for sure. Check out our Friday episode this week...it is a review follow up on the Viper. We got the SMART G2 packs in and I flew it on the 4000 and the lighter 3200...wow. The weight difference made a difference in a big way...and the flight time was still very good considering. It is still nice to know it will fly well on the heavier packs if the longest flight time possible is what you want. The new struts are a great improvement, and I agree...the sound is really good. Very much like a turbine. I remember my first EDF...it was the UMX Mig 15 as well! Still got one! My first larger EDF was the "Habu 2". Remember that one? Looked like a Thunderbirds T-38, it was 4s, anemic, and it absolutely sounded like a pissed off hair dryer! Lol.
Wow E-flite EDF's are getting better and better!! Nice review Adam, with some superb flying on show!! And Heidi's camera and editing skills were on show to the max!! Great review both 😀👍
You had me at the Turkeys in the background! Nice showcase of the Viper, the setup page that you displayed; was The setup for maiden or after a few flights with changes?
Ha! What is so funny is I didn't see them until I reviewed the footage. The set up page is always the way we flew the plane last, so yep, the changes we made for the bigger packs are what is listed.
Adam, Great review. For the price point this is a good sports jet. I am sure it will show up better on video on a sunny day. Thanks for sharing this review.
Thanks Tug! Yes, it would, but we were on a time crunch (got it Saturday) and had to film in the wx we had. It was rainy for three days but luckily not too windy. We had a small sunny window were we shot the grass ops, but it was blowing 10 to 12 mph. Lol.
Glad to see both Horizon and FMS listened to their customers. Unlike you, I had the original Viper 70 then bought the Viper 90. Love them both but like you said the Viper 70 can't compare to the 90 bigger and just flies bigger. Before I bought the VIper 90 I converted the Viper 70 with FMS Avanti 70 struts, Needless to say what a difference. One the the best mods I did to any plane. Not sure its worth upgrading to the new Viper 70, since I have the biggest mod (CNC Struts) other than a little more power. Great review as usual, thank you!
Thanks very much! The gear really makes a difference, but I pretty much like everything better than the OG 70mm I flew. Seems like more than a bit more power, but also just flies better, and I like the orange.
Another very professionally presented product. Every aspect covered and I have to say this jet looks superb, especially the power, response and landing gear. I couldn't see a PNP version on the store, which is a pity but not a deal breaker.
Thanks very much! Yes, no PNP on this one, I think they looked at the sales ratio and so many buy the Vipers as BNF to take advantage of a few extra features it didn't make sense to make a PNP. Like you said though not a deal breaker, plenty of folks to sell the Spektrum RX to if someone wants to use something else.
@@ModelAV8RChannel Thank you. That's sort of what I guessed. I if ever buy one (stuffed hangar atm!), I'd just keep the rx in as my Radiomaster would operate it anyway and a nicely tuned AS3X is always a pleasure. I'm relatively radio agnostic, flying Spektrum (lots of aircraft as I used to have a DX9), Crossfire and Frsky.
Nice review Adam! One of my favorite jets. Grab&go size, excellent performance, nice appearance. I have the V1 and upgraded it with trailing link gears. 350 is a little high for a beginner jet. But HH is offering 3X points/about 10% off on it now.
Greetings Adam. I watched both of your videos again on this Viper. I purchased one using your link. I hope the link worked! One thing I picked up on in your second review was your comment on your "set-up" when using 4000 Mah batteries. I have been trying to find what it is you did to mitigate the nose heavy problem with these heavier packs. I did buy some SMART 3200's - based on your recommendation - but I do have several 4000's. Did you cover your set up and I missed it? I can't thank you enough for your awesome reviews and the help you have provided! Dale.
Hey Dale thank you very much for using our link! We appreciate the support! So glad you find our reviews helpful. On our first video (This one) I cover the set -up to counter the nose heavy state, set up starts at 4:29. So funny how I was convinced I'd use the bigger 4000's...then I tried the 3200's. Lol. Changed my mind! For what it is worth I didn't change a thing about the set up with the smaller packs. The extra rudder and elevator help with tumbles. I just re-trimmed it for the better balance point with the lighter packs. You could do flight modes if you want...one with it trimmed for the light packs, and one with it trimmed for the heavier ones. That way you just flip a switch depending on the battery and you won't have to re-trim every time you go from one to the other. Hope this helps, and have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Thank you so much, Adam. I just flew the maiden on my 70mm viper this morning. I used the 3200 SMART as you advised. I was astounded. Flew much better than I expected. Beautiful take off, flight and glass smooth landing! I will definitely make all further purchases through your link, and always follow your advice. Thanks, Dale.@@ModelAV8RChannel
Glad it went well Dale! That is the kind of maiden we all like! I'm happy to help anytime I can, and we truly appreciate you supporting our efforts! Enjoy that Viper...great jet.
Stop with the perfection videos…. I never have a chance to ask a question because the video is my answer!✌🏻👍🏻🏁 Envy eats the container that holds it. My container walls are wearing thin!😁
Thanks! HRB and some older Pulse. Flew it today on the SMART 4000 and 3200. Whew...it makes more power with the shiny new packs, and it is a rocket with the 3200's. Our video this Friday will be a fun flight follow up with the Viper on the new packs and in wind.
I just won a Viper 70mm on an auction. I have a 3D flyer ( Night Timber X) that I like to fly scale with a couple of moves in between. That being said, regarding the control rod/horn set up if I chose to fly in a more scale fashion I can just leave the rod/horn arrangement stock correct? Great production sir. A brother from NJ!
Congrats on winning a Viper! Great jet. Yes you can go with the stock placement, however, you may want to make sure you have a good amount of elevator. You can increase expo as much as you need to tame down the sensitivity. You need a good amount of up elevator to get a good flare on landing...especially if you're using a larger battery like a 4000. The 6s 3200 is perfect and makes the plane easier to flare and land smoothly.
No not really. we made it fly well with the 4000 with set up, but there's really no more room to adjust it for an even heavier pack. It would be very nose heavy with the 5000, and thats if you could shoe horn it in there, which without modification isn't happening.
I’m interested in pre ordering this jet but I only have a dx6 , I do not plan on using safe. If there away to setup this edf with a dx6 and still have flaps retracts and the reverse thrust (I’d like the reverse thrust because I run on a pretty short dirt runway)
The reverse thrust needs its own channel. You could technically put flaps and retracts on the same switch if you're comfortable taking off with flaps. I "think" Horizon still has the Spektrum upgrade program going. They could take your DX6 and give you credit on a NX8. That TX can handle most planes you'll come across and give you all the features. Plus the forward and ESC programming through the TX is handy.
I might be able to handle/deal with retracts and flaps on the same switch. I don’t get very much time to taxi as it is so I’ll just have to punch and pull but I will look into that upgrade program it might be worth it
The Viper 90 is awesome. You never know, they may, but I don't really know what they'd do to it. It already has all the bells and whistles...AS3X/SAFE, SMART Telemetry, suspension gear, crazy power, etc.
I watched your flight review video and I will tell you my friend you are very good at explaining things and I try to do the same on my smaller channel and I appreciate that. thanks again and I just picked up this bird rather late but I think its a good edf to have and with the safe and as3x I will fly it well. Just need some advice on edf on landing on how to adjust the throttle to landing that always worries me on a stahl landing. so any tips on percentages on landing would be appreciated. Thanks again my friend and Im Joe👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks Joe! Man its hard to call a specific percentage of throttle. With the Viper, if you're landing with no flaps you might be fine coming in power off. Just depends on what your approach looks like. Taking it up high and doing some stall tests can help. That way you know what it looks like when it stalls and you'll have a better idea when you're getting too slow.
I think you do a better job of presenting and reviewing HH products than HH do themselves! Well done Team Model AV8R!
Ha! Thank you miss Gina! I don't know about that one...
...a nice review and look at the Viper ! 👍

I don't think so, for sure not without hacking things up to force it to fit. Not worth it anyway, its nose heavy enough with a 4000.
is this the same as the FMS version? FMS manufactures both?
FMS does manufacture both. Same mold, some different internals.
