I was lucky to experience her majesty Falkusa sailing just a few days ago, together with my husband - just 5 days after we got married. Now watching this video brings all romantic memories + adds goosebumps to my entire body - such an emotional history! Thanks to Pino's and his friends from Komiza enthusiasm and dreams, we had the amazing opportunity to experience this! Dream big to make things happen! Thank you, Alternatura!

    What a miracle!
Would a similar boat but smaller (5 meters) work ?

simply no, these boats are designed to sail opened sea, when they reach place for fishing they dismantel upper sides ( parts called falci- thats why boat is called falkusa)- so then it becomes much lower boat so they can work with nets- when they returned home they put board again on- without wind falkusa was rowed - for man at oars and owner at helm- to reach palagrusa ( place for fishing) it was eight hours of non stop rowing ( beach at palagrusa accomodeted about 25 boats, and in komisa there where about 50 boats, ). to work with nets and salt the fish it was necessary to have place at beach, so every fishing started with race of boats.
fishermen of this island were well known as best fishermen in venetian republic known as venturini- ethnichly they are ( and were ) croats ( in venetian republic known as schiavonni)-
my grand grand father was told that when price of fish was to low in italy (puglia-in these part italians are called puglisi) HE REFUSED TO sell them salted fish and sailed to MALTA)
anyway there is similar design of boats in sicily but they are also built for open sea and they are about 9 meters long-
smaller boats of these kind was seen (about 6 metres) in harbour of san francisko in early of 2o th century ( bult by sicilian fishermen )- you can find design in la chapelles book- boat desing in north america
