Dude, I’ve been watching your videos and listening to your podcast for years now, and I just have to say you’re at the top of your game. This video was great.
You have inspired me to upholster something as well. These are the types of projects that made me subscribe and watch religiously to your channel. Keep them coming
Upholsted furniture buisness for almost thirty as an upholsterer for ten The corner pleats You can do them differently Start as you did Pull down on the corner This will give you two pleats Roll the excess tight and pull the pleats straight down This would work best with a leg assembly that fits into the bottom best Made one of these about ten years ago for the mother in love who was using a plastic stepping stool to pro her her up in church and was having hip pain Made several more to sell Sold one Gave up. Lol People just don't appreciate craftsman compared to something that gonna fall apart in a few years. Using a air staple gun will make the Staples hold better as well Overall Props dude The legs look awesome And for your first shot at upholstery, did well!!
Great, simple design and I like the way the wood legs compliment the fabric. Maybe add wooden plugs to cover the screws if it's out in the open and non-skid feet if kids will be climbing on it.
I was impressed with you tackling upholstery, I think it will open the door to more projects. I was not a big fan of the leg placement on the stool. They looked like they were thrown on there. I always enjoy your videos and hope to see more upholstery projects.
Nice easy build David! I agree, the wax does set off the walnut in a very pleasing way. If you weren't going to change the legs out later, I would suggest using a plug on the screw holes, perhaps a contrasting wood like oak or even using pegs instead of screws.
Man, what a cool project. I just missed some music in the background! Hope you can achieve your goal of recording songs this year and show them here in the channel! Have a great week!
Very vintage look to this one. So mid-century modern, it could he been in my grandparents house. I don't mean that in a derogatory way, I think it looks way cool. Thanks for sharing!
I always laugh when you "Sand in the Place Where you Live" .... I keep waiting for it to cut back to you sanding later on and hear "I'M STILL SANDING....YEAH YEAH YEAH"
Awe man! That’s sweet! Outstanding color palette with the walnut. That alternating thick and thin pattern with big dots in the middle is so similar to some of my own references I collected for my last project. You sir have great taste! LOVE IT!!
Awesome! If I made that my kids would want to sit on it too. Maybe a good idea to add a board underneath for support. If you build it make it last forever!
David, can you briefly explain the advantages and disadvantages of the domino vs the old trusty biscuit. a video would be amazing but a few words would be greatly appreciated
They do the same thing. A domino is thicker and made of wood so it may be stronger. Also the dust collection is fantastic on the domino. That being said you can save tons of money with a biscuit jointer.
Asymmetrical legs... what a concept! Never would have thought of it, nice wall-hugger design. Not overly fond of the fabric pattern, but great design overall. Finish it off with some nice ebony or maple button plugs for another excellent build!
For those looking to purchase the foam, David's friend's store sells them for 50% off on her website quite often. You can also find 50% off any one item coupons from the website and buy in store.
David, I'm commenting before I even watch through the build :D I love the design of the stool and the Pattern is fantastic. I hope my wife will have something similar in her material collection. Off to rummage then I'll continue to watch the video :)
Great project. I'm glad you did an upholstery project. I have never done anything like that but I was recently given a huge amount of upholstery fabric. I didn't know what to do with it but know I at least have an idea to play with. Also... LOVE the Domino I know not everyone has access to a tool like that. I know I don't. But I will one day. And I love seeing videos using it.
Great prototype! Your next version should miter the front corners at 37 1/2° each, instead of one at 45 and one at 30. That way you don’t have any awkward trimming to do.
On the next one (non-prototype) why dont you just modify the one sides angle to be something other than 45? If you cut one set of mitres at 45, it will give you the square leg, and then cut the other set of mitres at 37.5 then it will give you the same outline, without the awkward angles and rip cuts.
I noticed that there was some dust coming out from the crosscut sled. To improve this, I simply remove the throat plate which seems to help tremendously. Great content!
Nice build David. Not complaining or anything just an observation. Did you change cameras or something. There's something different with the color or look of the video. Just wondering.
"My friend Joann has a fabric store here in town." - I laughed WAY too hard at that.
She's a great friend to have, I have a friend too in my town named JoANN. Haha
Me too. He was so nonchalant about it, haha
Oh thank you. I missed that joke at the start and was wondering what I missed at the end.
Am I the only one that doesn't get it?
I have friend Michael who's got a great craft store!
0:40 so crazy, our friend Joanne has a fabric store here too! ;P
Dude, I’ve been watching your videos and listening to your podcast for years now, and I just have to say you’re at the top of your game. This video was great.
Right on! Thank you Ryan!
Hi I made this as a starter. You are a great teacher indeed.
I'm just here for the JoAnn fabric jokes
I could have overlooked the link, but am looking for the dowel joinery jig vid you mentioned. Thnx David!
That fabric is out of this world!
You have inspired me to upholster something as well. These are the types of projects that made me subscribe and watch religiously to your channel. Keep them coming
So you made a footstool with Festool. Love it!
Funny thing... I originally had "Footstool" in the title but I thought it looked too much like "Festool" so I changed it to "Footrest." 😁
I'm normally not a fan of upholstered furniture, but I love this. Great job
Nice job on this. That sanding song gets me every time lol
Good job !
I use squarespace and I love it!
The rocky wallpaper always makes you look like you're in greenscreen! Love the stool
Awesome job, something that would make Gear and Pocket hole envious! ;) I really like how the fabric and walnut go together!
I love your videos. Thank you very much.
Great job with the upholstery! Great looking piece!
Awesome man, I love it. For me, brass screws would finish this off beautifully.
Upholsted furniture buisness for almost thirty as an upholsterer for ten
The corner pleats
You can do them differently
Start as you did
Pull down on the corner
This will give you two pleats
Roll the excess tight and pull the pleats straight down
This would work best with a leg assembly that fits into the bottom best
Made one of these about ten years ago for the mother in love who was using a plastic stepping stool to pro her her up in church and was having hip pain
Made several more to sell
Sold one
Gave up. Lol
People just don't appreciate craftsman compared to something that gonna fall apart in a few years.
Using a air staple gun will make the Staples hold better as well
Overall
Props dude
The legs look awesome
And for your first shot at upholstery, did well!!
Cool project, pretty simple and it looks great
David.....you really do nice work ! And your videos are tops! Love your channel....
Thanks Michael!
Great, simple design and I like the way the wood legs compliment the fabric. Maybe add wooden plugs to cover the screws if it's out in the open and non-skid feet if kids will be climbing on it.
I haven't attempted upholstery yet. But this has made me realise an air stapler isn't necessary. Great job. 👍
Hey, I know Joanne. Her fabric shop is great. It's where we go too. She's a real solid friend to have.
Hi my friend it is Beautiful work thenks .
Very cool

Nice work. Try a hospital corner for your corner folds on your next one. Keep up the great videos!
I love the fabric and the 45 angle chamfer on the legs is a cool detail.
I think we know the same jo-ann
Very vintage look to this one. So mid-century modern, it could he been in my grandparents house. I don't mean that in a derogatory way, I think it looks way cool. Thanks for sharing!
Looks nice man
As an avid lover of 90's rock I will never get tired of the sand joke
I always laugh when you "Sand in the Place Where you Live" .... I keep waiting for it to cut back to you sanding later on and hear "I'M STILL SANDING....YEAH YEAH YEAH"
I need this.
Awe man! That’s sweet! Outstanding color palette with the walnut. That alternating thick and thin pattern with big dots in the middle is so similar to some of my own references I collected for my last project. You sir have great taste! LOVE IT!!
Great project David! Beautiful upholstery job - I think it might look ever better with some mid-century style tapered legs? What do you think?
When will you do the workbench part 2 vid and upload plans?
Points if you thought David was totally going to run the foam through the Sawstop...
+1
No reason that you couldn't. I cut rigid foam on the tablesaw all the time.
Nice work man. I remember my first time..I messed up good :-) I like what you made..but if you would hide screws it would be even better. Regards
Do you have the plans for this project?
Super nice David!
Thanks Justin!
Nice job Table Saw!
Nice colours, would make a great sofa
Agreed!
So the way I cut off legs parallel with the top is just riding the top against the fence on my table saw. Works perfect. Just food for thought.
Really loving the variety in videos! Totally wanna try some upholstery now!
Awesome awesome work.
The fabric pattern is awesome. Looks like peacock feathers
I all ways adore the R E M cuts. Hehe
Is that a turbin?
Awesome! If I made that my kids would want to sit on it too. Maybe a good idea to add a board underneath for support. If you build it make it last forever!
i love the comedy in his videos
Turned out really nice!! Just had knee surgery and could really use this! I think we have friends in common LOL.
I also love your style, carpet in the shop, fabric stool for shoes lol
That came out sweet, David. Love the style.
What kinda drill bit is that? Do you have an affiliate link for it?
0:33 your green screen looks impressive again today David! 😉
Man you really like that fabric! Lol

Love the background beats. Looking forward to the album. Great project!!
Asymmetrical legs... what a concept! Never would have thought of it, nice wall-hugger design. Not overly fond of the fabric pattern, but great design overall. Finish it off with some nice ebony or maple button plugs for another excellent build!
Love the fabric. First shot I thought you had on a toupee. Realized later it was a cap.
Awesome video. Love it. Also I see that sweet bench. Looking forward to the part two!
Thanks! Almost done, coming soon!
For those looking to purchase the foam, David's friend's store sells them for 50% off on her website quite often. You can also find 50% off any one item coupons from the website and buy in store.
Another great video David... I liked this pattern

Dowel joinery jig link?
Love the beard man!! Keep it growing
Great project. I'm glad you did an upholstery project. I have never done anything like that but I was recently given a huge amount of upholstery fabric. Very cool project!!
This shirt suits you very well !
No way!! You know Jo anne too!! ;) great build man! 👍🏼
Great Job!! Cheers David & Eric!!
Great prototype!

Really cool David! 👍👊 ... love the choice of fabric, looks great with that walnut!
I also have a friend named JoAnn and she too has an upholstery store in my town! What a coincidence. 😂
Great build and great vid! I see new additions to the workbench...can't wait to see the vid for that! Thanks for the inspiration!
Thanks! The bench Video is taking longer than expected to come out. Almost done!
It will be worth it...Thanks!
JoAnn is making bank. Also I laughed a lot at that.
I like the retro/modern combo. Nice work Dave 🍻
Great project!
RUclips recommended this video for me. It's the first time I've seen your channel. Looks like it's yet another one I have to sub to :P. Nice work
Welcome aboard!!
Are those festool dominos you glued in? Or aftermarket? They look sort of like "Tuffer Tenons" from Cincinnati Dowel.
Sexy stool. It's that a stone facade or green screen awesomry?
woww, very beautiful
Super simple, love it. You should just make a video every day, nbd.
On the next one (non-prototype) why dont you just modify the one sides angle to be something other than 45? You Da Man! How on Earth did you get REM to record that special sound byte just for you? Wow! Impressive! "Sand In The Place Where You Live!" Awesome!
Do you have "Sand in the place where you live" shirts?
I noticed that there was some dust coming out from the crosscut sled. To improve this, I simply remove the throat plate which seems to help tremendously. Great content!
I’ll have to try that!
looks nice..
You have a friend JoAnn too? :)
Nice footstool. Given me a couple of ideas to work on, thanks!
Cool! Please make a video about
That turned out great. I love your friends store.
Thanks Brian!
Jo-Anne has a fabric store near me too
Great channel. All of it.
Great video; home much fabric did you buy? Looks like 2 yards...
Yep, 2 yards.
Nice build David. Not complaining or anything just an observation. Did you change cameras or something. There's something different with the color or look of the video. Just wondering.
Look amazing, great work!
Thank you!
I wonder if your friend Joann knows this Michael guy I know? And that footrest is too fancy to be hidden under a desk!
