CORRECTION: the metric dimensions listed at 1:04 should be 305mm x 185mm x 20mm and 152mm x 185 x 20. SORRY, I dropped the "1" from in front of the second dimension by accident.
Just a little tip I,ve picked up over the years, if you are cutting plywood with a jigsaw try using a metal cutting blade, It reduces splinters and ragged edges 😮
Great little project for oldies like me who are new to woodwork. This is perfect for stands for my collection of planters and pots outside to raise the back ones up so they can be seen.
very good tutorial, i am a fashion designer but also like furniture design i am in the works of designing my first wood stand and you showed everything i was thinking about doing. thank you
Thank you, been going thru youtube to find the simplest stool i could make with fancy tools. i like yours the best and will try and make one with scrap pallet wood
I was looking for dimensions for a simple bench. This should work wonderfully. Thanks! I think I will leave the leg pieces as one large pice until after I use a large hole saw to make a hole in the center. It seems like it may be a quicker/more precise way to make the arch.
I'm glad... though I have NO idea what size lumber is available in building supply stores outside of North America, but hopefully the basic concept is sufficient.
PS: just in case you still care, I did make a mistake with the metric equivalents in the video and somehow dropped the leading "1" from a measurement: The metric dimensions listed at @1:04 should be 305mm x 185mm x 20mm and 152mm x 185 x 20.
Art, I noticed the plywood for dust control on the back of your table saw. I looked for a video of you doing that "upgrade", but didn't find one. If you didn't do one how about considering it. Thanks Grampa Cross P.S. Thanks for all you honesty, it's refreshing.
I put those in years ago. The one is friction fit, the other has a magnet. There's not much to say, they just close in the back a bit. But I'll consider it.
I made that. ruclips.net/video/1H1zxCZ2rZ8/видео.html Just some scrap aluminum and a few bits of hardware. But it is pretty much a direct copy of John Heisz' design: ibuildit.ca/tips/making-a-compact-compass/
to be honest this project could be done with the drill and a home center panel saw, with slightly less fancy legs. Drill the biggest hole you have a bit for at the top of a V for the two legs on a side, and make some straight cuts up to that for the legs.
there's usually more than one way to do things in woodworking! (That said, most home centre panel saws in my experience are beat up and dull, and I would not want to use their cut as a finished edge!)
It's the "John Heisz Compact Compass" I built it from John's plans: ibuildit.ca/tips/making-a-compact-compass/ Here is my build video: ruclips.net/video/1H1zxCZ2rZ8/видео.html
Hi Art, at 69 years old I don’t think I still come under the age to be a child, but looking at both of them I prefer the painter in different colours one
I didn't see the corrections and draw the plan for him will the mm in the video😔 and when he asked "really? 85mm" I said of course I checked the video and still missed it. So I have two very well made skinny stools. Oh well right

What’s an “mm”?
@@pamtnman1515 that's a millimetre. So 305mm makes 30,5 Centimetres.

Really appreciate how you addressed this to beginners who may not have many tools at their disposal.

Great work! I just bought a jigsaw today and I'm lucky enough to watch this video, now I'm feeling confident to kick off my first little project.
I will love more projects for beginners. It will be very nice.
Thanks for the ideas! I wanted to build something for my 2 year old to help him get to the sink and what not.
Spectacular timing as I’m about to build a stool for my grand daughters!
Thanks for all the tips, Art! I'm definitely going to build one! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Great, especially turning it into a bench or a coffee table, or whatever one wants !
Nice simple project that you can do with kids, grandkids, and a whole lot of others. Thank you!
Thank you for making this video I was looking to make my grand daughter a simple stool for her birthday and I found this! 👏
Excellent video, even for us old farts. You're never too old to learn something new. Thank you for sharing this informative and enjoyable video.
Wonderful! This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you very much for this very helpful, music-free tutorial.
Thanks !!
plan on making one for my daughter for the kitchen :(

This is what I was looking for, except as a beginner I don't have a miter saw. Maybe I'll try it with a mini circular saw and hope I can cut straight.
This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks.
Simple, easy to follow, fun for me and fun for the kids.
awesome to hear!
Thank you! Nice easy starter project for the beginners out there like me!
I built one of these using your video. Not hard at all. I love it! Thanks for your guidance!!
Thanks for letting me know! Great to hear comments like this!
Thanks Art I liked the way you kept on the Bright side EXCELLENT video
Glad you liked it!
Thank you so much for making these vids. I just enjoy a lot watching and learning from you. Greetings from Honduras!!
Hi Art, thanks for the great project idea! I also have to smile seeing you use freedom units north of the border. Old habits die hard…
Thanks for the metric equivalents - it's appreciated.

I’m a Brit now living in Phoenix. I really wish these ‘Muricans would step into the modern world!! Metric rocks!!!!
Awesome job. Thank you so much. I am using this stool for my Cub Scout Den. Very good for kids.
Thank u so much! I need a specific size stool. I couldn't find one anywhere. Now I can build my own because of ur video.
Great little stool.
I'll take the cherry one :)
Shhhh! (me too)
That’s was awesome. Thank you. I am going to go try my luck and make one for me. Thanks again for the awesome instructions.
Great video
Thank you sir. This video is great.
Glad it was helpful! have a great weekend.
Thank you very much. A very good explanation. Appreciating your effort.
Nice little stepstool Art! Thanks for sharing the video with us!💖👍👌😎JP
Where did you get that compass. Simple, clean design. Cannot find it searching on Google.
I built it: ruclips.net/video/1H1zxCZ2rZ8/видео.html
Based on a John Heisz design: ibuildit.ca/tips/making-a-compact-compass/
You did good job, now you can clean your shop.
Simple but elegant. From India.,..... Modi.

@@Wordsnwood Thanks again.
Could you clarify the measurements for the centre support .. you state 10 ” long but no width measurement… pls advise. Thx 😊
The dimensions are explained starting at about the 1 minute mark, and also in the accompanying web article wordsnwood.com/2020/stepstool/
Thank you 😊
It was a good study. 🇹🇷🙏
Where can you find that little red compass? I've searched on Amazon to no avail.
I made that. ruclips.net/video/1H1zxCZ2rZ8/видео.html
Just some scrap aluminum and a few bits of hardware.

Looks nice & easy. I wish I had more tools though.
Muy buen proyecto felicitación saludos dé Puebla 🔥 México
Gracias por tus amables palabras

@@Wordsnwood I meant the cheap hand saw you can get there, not that fancy power tool thing they use for plywood.
I can't wait to try this! Thank you so much!
I want to build this but not for a step stool. Like a small bench for Knick knacks
Awesome thanks.
love it, bravo
Thank you
You're welcome
I was in HD here in london east end on weekend and no select pine to be found in the place.
I haven't been in that one in a while. The nice thing about the HD website is that you can check stock in your local store.
Like from Brazil
Great video, thanks.
Jonathon Katz-Moses makes a similar one with cool stepped dowels made by Miller, have you seen them?
Seen them, but have never tried them.
Love your videos keep em coming!
4:05. What is the specific name for that compass. Never seen that type before.
It's the "John Heisz Compact Compass" I built it from John's plans: ibuildit.ca/tips/making-a-compact-compass/

That’s just the way it is. Let’s move on! Hahahaha lmao!
👍
What are you doing, stepstool!
Not sure how many “beginners” have a Mitre saw sitting in their garage but nonetheless…
Noo, not Philips! Pozi!
Hahahaha
