- Making the trek from Washington to Alaska with 3 large dogs is a pretty big task! We want to utilize every bit of space as best we can so we decided to build our own shell that will not only offer a comfortable space for the dogs but will also accommodate some good storage as well.
How to do keep the back hatch from leaking water on heavy rains? Amazing Build! Looks Great
*That looks so cool! 🏆🏆🏆🏆 Great family project!*
Looks great! I did something very similar on my ram 1500. Something I would recommend is magnets on the main hatch/upper tailgate so In case you hit a speed bump or something the hatch doesn’t go flying up, happened to me once or twice. You can get pretty cheap, very strong magnets from Home Depot or Lowes.
I like this one. Just looking at different ones for ideas. Great job 👍
Glad it may help!
This inspires me. Thank you
Good work..looks great!
Thank you! 3 days and only a few hundred dollars compared to over 1k. We’re happy!
The DIY windows were a smart touch!
Pretty sweet!
Awesome camper shell. Just subscribed
Awesome. I’m definitely going to be trying this instead of buying a used camper shell that are well over 600$ plus.
Why are they so ridiculously expensive?!?
@@robertrowland8856 Answer= joe bidens economic policies.
This is a great idea. It’s unbelievable how much they charge for a simple camper shell it should be a crime to charge that much
Now that it's been over a year since you built it, was the elastomeric coating enough to seal the joints between the pieces of plywood?
We also used a piece of plumbing tape on the top to keep moisture out of seams. All is still good even after sitting in 3 solid months of 4ft of snow.
Excellent video. Did you miter cut the 2x4s or just straight cut them? Did you continue to use the C clamps to anchor it?
If you had went with 2x2s it would have been lighter!
Have you used anything other than those clamps to secure the mount?
Awesome video. About how much did it cost?
Under $500!
What kind of plywood did you use
Great build! Do you mind explaining how you found the appropriate angle of the vertical 2x4's? I'm stumped.
We went off the angle of the cab.
@@alaskacalling-bowersfamily2806 That makes a lot of sense, thanks!
How much do you think it weighs?
Did you and your wife pick it up and put it once once finished or was it so heavy you needed an extra hand?
We were able to maneuver it ourselves but it indeed is very heavy. An extra hand would be nice.
What kind of paint did you use to seal it?? Working on my own build
Elastomeric white. Have fun!
@@alaskacalling-bowersfamily2806 thank you!!
Hey i live in Anchorage and i just bought a F150 do you a parts list, and the dimensions of your build
The camper was built with all 2x4’s custom fit to the bed size. I believe we used 3/8 plywood.
👍👍🌹🌹
Great build looks good how did you figure out your miter cut angles on that I saw you with the square do you know the degree that you cut them by any chance
I just estimated the cut based on the angle of the cab.
@@alaskacalling-bowersfamily2806 well you estimated pretty damn good. Hopefully mine come out half as good as yours thanks for the tips
