Never even considered the possibility of extending the truck bed with the topper. Got me considering leaving the tailgate down and building-extending the topper over it. Did you consider doing that? Or does building it all out and removing the tailgate serve some other purpose? Ya, why didn't you just build out over an open tailgate if you don't mind me asking? I was also hoping it would reduce weight a bit. I'm actually considering doing a full slide in build, and if I do I'll probably leave the tailgate on next time. This build was fun, it taught me a lot, but overall it has a lot of room to grow.

first i have read the other comments, an yes i agree with them on the music. on to more important issues. i have a ranger with a cap on it with the idea of adding that foot over the tail get for sleeping length. your video is the first i have found that covers going out onto the tailgate area. 1 thing i am considering is putting a 1 inch piece plywood on the bottom (bed level) cut to 84 -90 inches length. an build off that. also thinking side by side doors.
I'm actually planning a new build very similar to what you're describing. A big problem with my build is by reducing weight I sacrificed strength, and boy is it noticeable on this.

My biggest question is everyone who builds these sliding campers for their trucks. How come they never build them high enough where you can stand up in them.
In reality, I thought maybe it would improve mileage, be easier to move, look cooler, etc All of these things were not the case and I wish I would have gone bigger

Poor man's fiberglass or pmf is a cheaper way of waterproofing a camper build. You take blankets, or sheets (usually drop cloth) and drape it over the build, then you fully saturate it with waterproof wood glue. When it dries you'll have a water tight solid cover around your build.
I'm sorry, I moved onto a different build since this one was difficult to get in and out of. I don't have any footage of the inside of this, but I will for new builds I'm making.
The music is fun and compliments your content but I'd recommend lowering the music volume so the audience can hear you clearly. I could hardly decipher every other word you were saying

@@thetrashgoblin I mean't the roof. As for the floor, I used carpet, it is cheap, easy to fit/replace and offers some insulation. My conversion is 9 years old, 250 nights spent, half with a dog and it is still good.

Yeah, I wonder if you had put primer down then did the PMF if you would've been more successful with it, esp on those plastic side panels.
I think sanding them a bit before hand would have helped a lot. That and using better material to start with

Why didn't you build the sides of the shell/ cap at 90° angels ? It would have given you more interior space, it does look nice.
