We’re so used to thinking we are in a position of having to manage things we forget that the horse wants to work with us and do what we want. And we get in their way because we forget to be ourselves like they are themselves.

It was great to get a chance to see and understand a little more about how show jumping works. Thank you for letting us see your honest reactions to this kind of riding as I'm sure everyone has faced something in their riding careers that made them want to stop and "run away"! I still remember the first time that my teacher pointed me at a jump and how she almost had to lead my horse over it with me on his back. More than half a century later I can still feel how terrified I was and how I would rather have done almost anything else at the time! Overcoming those feelings and continuing to try new things (and live) is one of the great things we can learn from our riding.

I hope that when you rewatched this you saw how well you did. You rode a giant-strided horse so well even though it was two hands outside of your comfort zone! It’s funny how it feels so different from how it looks. I went through this exact kind of fear recovery, and I was paired up with a wonderful mare who was so forgiving. I would fall to pieces mentally if we chipped in a line, thinking that I had screwed it all up, or worse, ruined it for the horse. My trainer did the same thing Dan did: put poles out, lowered the fence and let me come around to doing it. My heart was still pounding, I could hear the blood rushing in my ears, but eventually I could breathe and connect with the mare to let the fences come to us. Thanks so much for taking us on this ride with you!

Have to admit… didn’t know who Dan was but after watching this vlog I’m a new fan.
Well done Meg for pushing yourself in this video. You put a lot of pressure on yourself but deliver where I think I would have just given up. Thanks for championing confidence in a real and relatable way. It’s refreshing to see you have wibbles like the next person, but the advise Dan gave in the vlog was really good and something I’ll be remembering for my own training at home. Can’t wait to watch the next one ❤

Meg, Vlogmas-wise, you really knocked this out of the park. Cam and Dan remind me of one another other as coaches: let the horse do the jumping and believe in yourself!! I’m a new fan of Dan m’s now. This horse was beautiful and totally knew his job. What a great confidence builder. You are such a good rider. Well done!!!
