Don't be so hard on yourself. As you are learning new things about something you have done differently a million times before, you are bound to lose some confidence.... it is something new to the mix of old. You have to change and change is hard. And you are helping others by being open and public with your journey. Amazing. You got this. Lucinda is wonderful and you are doing well. Give yourself the freedom to be wrong without judgement and you will learn it even faster.....You are a wonderful horsewoman and you are learning details most folk never even care about.... You make an old horseman happy with every video. TY
That was a VAST improvement with DD. Looked absolutely FAB. I love that Lucinda is quietly very perceptive and picked up the ‘precious’ side of you that holds you both back. Small steps. You’re doing great
Absolutely love Lucinda, she reminds me so much of my instructors, they yell, tell us how it is, sometimes a bit too harshly, but the truth is that most people learn so much better from straightforward instructors, instead of the ones that just coddle you.
Dee's canter really improved with the poles - fantastic exercise. I'm sure there's loads to take away from this - hope it continues to help your journey!
This video was super interesting! Learning about those boots really got you thinking. Also it was amazing to watch you and Lucinda ride + watching you and Dee sync up together while riding under Lucinda’s direction was incredible.
I don’t even jump anymore, but I really learned a lot by watching the canter poles. Meg, you are riding super well. I know falls shake your confidence, but you are a really stellar rider.
Marley is such a fantastic stallion, would definitely use him if I was breeding an eventer. I really really hope you’re buying the mare from the Fredericks 😊
Aww Dee seemed so happy doing that. I'm excited she got to come and together y'all got to have a lesson with Lucinda. You got praised by her, allow yourself some grace and let that give you confidence. You got skillz!!! 😊👍🏻
Aaah Meg - What a brave heart you are and it's inspiring for us all. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and fears your training and your overcoming the fears.. , Lucinda is a legend - such a great trainer
You know Meg, a sports therapist is a fantastic idea. They’ll get your mind in the right set for the big year coming up. You need someone to guide you through this barrier. You’ are all so good as a team and you need to believe that again. I’m rooting for you all the way.
Really enjoyed watching this! definitely taking those pole exercises home, for both me and my horses. I fully support sports psych/therapy - your confidence will come back in time, but as I'm sure you know, it takes work and courage to keep testing and pushing your boundaries safely. You may take steps backwards sometimes, but still look forward and you'll regain it again
I really enjoyed Lucinda’s lessons showing the importance of adjustability in your riding. Would you consider breeding Dee to Marley? He seems to have it all- looks, calm temperament, movement , scope and soundness.
Actually yes!!!!! They’re so raw it’s refreshing!!! Just truthfull 😊 reminds me of the crucifying days at pony club on your first horse - everything feels like rubbish and impossible - then the fruit of it surfaces later and you can turn babies into stars❤ but the aches and pains along the way omg!!! You are transforming into really professional riders!!! THANKYOU for sharing kudos to you 🎉
Wow! All this hard work and we benefit from it!!! Seriously THANKS FOR SHARING! ❤❤❤your instructor is impressive😊wow the teaching about leg temperature xxxx😮by the way she made you look seriously professional 🥰 how great you’ll end up 😍😍😍😍
Blue is beautiful and trots so smoothly!! I went to the NEC yesterday and met Meg and Esme and they are two amazing people who have inspired me to keep riding, so if you ever get the chance to meet them I would 100000% recommend seeing them. I had a amazing day yesterday and I would definitely recommend going to the NEC next year. The dates for next year are the 3rd and 4th of March. Harlow Luna White and Charlotte Dujardin will be there next year. Thank you Meg for being so nice and wonderful. Xx
I think key to overcoming your loss of confidence is realising that it's perfectly reasonable to have a confidence wobble after faceplanting like you did at Bicton. It's plain in your voice, and your riding position how anxious you're getting - some counselling may well help get you some tools to start learning how to work through anxiety and to realise when you are actually getting anxious. But also continue having lessons with people who are understanding how to talk you through it, giving you the keys (better riding skills and understanding your horse skills) to making your riding safer and you more confident as a result. I think the combination of different teachers you've had these last few months all tackle your problems in different ways - might be worth studying them carefully to identify which make the biggest difference to how you feel riding. But counselling will help you to hear those trainers rather than the anxious voices in your head clamouring them out. I did find a book called 'mindfulness, finding peace in a frantic world' pretty good for starting to understand how to gather control of my thoughts instead of the incessant negative self talk that I hadn't realised was running through my head. Good luck Meg, you can overcome the fear, just make sure you take advantage of all the help you can get, you're not alone. :)
This was so interesting Meg and Lucinda is the best trainer for you to get your confidence back to 100%. Those sessions have been so good and you rode Blue beautifully he’s gorgeous. Keep smiling you’ll get there I’m sure of that. You and Tina are working so hard even I am sleepy watching. Both of you are very lucky. Looking forward to seeing you girls on the next vlogi am really enjoying the whole thing.tfs😎🏇😎
I think you both learned and improved massively, DD schooled over the poles and improved no end as you adjusted her canter, you must practice at home as your confidence in your super mare will improve, well done xx
Have all the faith in DD! She was such a machine round Bicton XC in the most awful awful weather. Maybe having to concentrate on her whilst Jammy has her little break will help break the winter impasse. Great idea re: the sports psychologist - brains are sneaky things and I think we all need a bit of help sometimes, especially after the fall. You both walked away unscathed but it must have been terrifying. Getting some help working through that I'm sure would be helpful - look how much Tina's confidence has improved from doing the same thing.
These videos with Lucinda are so helpful! I love hearing all her little pieces of wisdom ;) Your improvement in just one session is truly outstanding!!!!!!!!
Love these lesson vlogs. It's so interesting to see different styles of teaching. A lot of instructors here in the US are too "precious" and never point-blank tell you how it is. The only one I had who did was from the UK! :P
GOD SHE LOOKS GOOD! Losing confidence sucks so bad. Defo recommend anything mindset, it has helped me a lot with biz, still working on the riding haha x
Really interesting, great to watch. Lots of learning for myself ! I can highly recommend a book by Stephanie Burns , Move Closer Stay Longer. Really Really good for changing the way we approach/ think. And best of all it is not a long winded book. It has been many yrs since I have read it,but I still remember her tips. And it changed my world after a bad buster & all I wanted to do was ride ! Keep making time for lessons with Lucinda ,she is sooo respectful of where you are at but also knows how & when to stretch your boundaries 😉. Love it.
Loving seeing an influencer highlighting the issues with boots! I love the idea of the husk boots, but sadly the price point puts them out of contention for me (and a lot of people)
True test of the husk boots would be if they don’t make my sweats a lot thoroughbred sweat in the high summer of North Carolina. I only use boots for XC and when we’re trail riding over rough ground for this exact reason.
Awesome vlog - after the bit about the HUSK boots I’ve just gone and bought a pair - they are exactly what we need - your confidence will return you just have to work at it believe in yourself tell yourself how good you are don’t dwell on what was look to the future - ❤
You did brilliantly, well done. I had a big confidence wobble a few years back with my jumping and had some sessions with a confidence coach/sports psychologist, It really helped and I’d def recommend!
These latest videos where your confidence has not been great really make my heart go out to you Meg... I'm not the most confident rider anyway and then after a fall... Ugh.
that was fantastic!! We'd better see you practicing those poles at home (wink). I don't think you give Dede enough credit, she looks pretty scopie over that grid. Please don't beat yourself up, you had a bad fall and it for sure will shake you. Like you said talking to a sport psychologist might help. Thanks for sharing, as always so much great teaching from Lucinda!
Could you show a few pole exercises with how to count them? I can count strides but I can’t walk anything else and I rly want to put some trot and canter poles with my horse bc that’ll help him a lot I think
Meg have you tried salt therapy that helps alot with hives. I use salt therapy on my horse about ones a month it helps with all sorts. I use it for my horse for seasonal coughs and mudfever or sweet itch. I really do recommend it highly
Not saying much you know what you doing wrong but dee dee jumped much better when you sit back and I find you ride horses better I sure it’s just me but I found you are enjoying yourself on them if you think dee dee is a horse I think you win everything but I biased because I think you are a great rider and a good person ❤give dee dee a carrot 🥕 from me ❤
It’s nice to see that Lucinda after all her years and years of experience still counts strides.
Marley is an absolute icon. What a beauty, everyone's dream 😍
He is so gorgeous isn't he!
@Elphick.Event.Ponies Don't put yourself down about your riding either. You are my inspiration, and you ride beautifully. Xx

Dee's canter really improved with the poles - fantastic exercise. I'm sure there's loads to take away from this - hope it continues to help your journey!

Love these videos, keep them coming! Thanks for the pole exercise inspiration 😎 nice to see you a horse sized horse again 👏😍

Proud of you, Love yoooouuuu!!
Binge watching all the videos from the last two months to get myself less nervous over my first ride back tomorrow after my bad injury.
You can see how much dee is working her stomach muscles over those poles !!!! What a fab lesson you both had ❤
Your riding is so beautiful Meg you need to believe in yourself more!! Such an educational video, loved it!
