Don't be so hard on yourself. As you are learning new things about something you have done differently a million times before, you are bound to lose some confidence.... it is something new to the mix of old. You have to change and change is hard. And you are helping others by being open and public with your journey. Amazing. You got this. Lucinda is wonderful and you are doing well. Give yourself the freedom to be wrong without judgement and you will learn it even faster.....You are a wonderful horsewoman and you are learning details most folk never even care about.... You make an old horseman happy with every video. TY

Absolutely love Lucinda, she reminds me so much of my instructors, they yell, tell us how it is, sometimes a bit too harshly, but the truth is that most people learn so much better from straightforward instructors, instead of the ones that just coddle you.

I fully support sports psych/therapy - your confidence will come back in time, but as I'm sure you know, it takes work and courage to keep testing and pushing your boundaries safely. You may take steps backwards sometimes, but still look forward and you'll regain it again

I think key to overcoming your loss of confidence is realising that it's perfectly reasonable to have a confidence wobble after faceplanting like you did at Bicton. It's plain in your voice, and your riding position how anxious you're getting - some counselling may well help get you some tools to start learning how to work through anxiety and to realise when you are actually getting anxious. But also continue having lessons with people who are understanding how to talk you through it, giving you the keys (better riding skills and understanding your horse skills) to making your riding safer and you more confident as a result. I think the combination of different teachers you've had these last few months all tackle your problems in different ways - might be worth studying them carefully to identify which make the biggest difference to how you feel riding. But counselling will help you to hear those trainers rather than the anxious voices in your head clamouring them out. I did find a book called 'mindfulness, finding peace in a frantic world' pretty good for starting to understand how to gather control of my thoughts instead of the incessant negative self talk that I hadn't realised was running through my head. Good luck Meg, you can overcome the fear, just make sure you take advantage of all the help you can get, you're not alone. :)

Have all the faith in DD! She was such a machine round Bicton XC in the most awful awful weather. Maybe having to concentrate on her whilst Jammy has her little break will help break the winter impasse. Great idea re: the sports psychologist - brains are sneaky things and I think we all need a bit of help sometimes, especially after the fall. You both walked away unscathed but it must have been terrifying. Getting some help working through that I'm sure would be helpful - look how much Tina's confidence has improved from doing the same thing.

I can highly recommend a book by Stephanie Burns , Move Closer Stay Longer. Really Really good for changing the way we approach/ think. And best of all it is not a long winded book. It has been many yrs since I have read it,but I still remember her tips. And it changed my world after a bad buster & all I wanted to do was ride ! Keep making time for lessons with Lucinda ,she is sooo respectful of where you are at but also knows how & when to stretch your boundaries 😉. Love it.
