I'm going to pin a quick list of things for people since this was made a long time ago. 1. Yes this works on MCC, it's in the video. Sword tricks were added in a patch in August of 2018. :P 2. You can only cancel, not fly on Vista. But MCC is out on PC now so play that instead. 3. Keyboard controls are (switch weapons > reload > shoot) and (shoot > reload > jump) for flying and canceling respectively. 4. These things are difficult and nobody can do everything 100% of the time. 5. Scoped and unscoped flies visibly share the same number of frames to fly so they shouldn't be different. 6. Timing is everything, and your experience will vary across controllers/keyboards with how tight the timing is. 7. Seriously it's really hard. Experienced people make it look easy. It takes people weeks or even months of practice to get above 70% consistency. Update: 8. It's inconsistent on MCC with unlimited framerate because of how the engine handles this in tandom with tickrate. Lock to 60 fps and use Vsync for a more consistent timing doing it.
So what if there is no canceling the sword animation and x does nothing? Maybe it's because I tried it with a covenant sniper and it doesn't have to reload? Edit: ok the cancel of the sword animation partially works but he just swings with the handle and I even recorded my screen and watched it in slow-mo and the swords reticle never turns red no matter how much I try 2nd Edit: well this is hilarious, I've managed to pull it off a few times now and even with the slowest I can get the video I absolutely cannot see the sword reticle turn red, but hey at leaste it's working lmao my halo 2 is so glitchy I can see parts from the cutscene all the way through the game
i play on mcc on pc with controller and i been speedrunning alot i can sword fly super consistent no issues hitting flys whenever i feel the need but as soon as i scope in with a weapon its like the swordflys suddenly exit the building i cannot figure out why if i fly consistent that scoping it doesnt work for me ... someone once suggested i change my controller layout.. i tried and due to muscle memory i just cant use another layout and i feel that should make a difference whatever your used to that works well should still work with scoped flys. however i have been trying for like 3 months to hit 1 scoped in flyy and have yet to pull one off... i would like to figure out the issue so i can finally do them i play on universal recon so my combo buttons are , y,rb,rt any suggestion....? ppl say it shouldnt be any different if i can fly consistently anywhere else but still cannot find a answer to my issue

Another good practice place is the cable area on The Oracle. You can launch yourself up there with the elevator so that you take no damage, and it's a pretty nice open area
If you continue through the mission Uprising where the ghost/vehicle section begins as you're leaving the building, there's a few brutes sitting on stationary plasma turrets. They make great practice for sword flying, as long as you aim for their body you'll never kill them and they wont shoot you if you're far back enough

I found that if you do it too fast or too slow you won’t fly, I’ve always known how to sword cancel I think it’s the easiest part but the reason I never hit any flies was because I was pressing my buttons too fast. There’s a sweet touch to it.

Update it is completely possible with bumper jumper and tbh I find easier. The one problem that got me each time: you have to let go of the reload button before you hit the trigger or it won't work. After I started slowing down a bit on that part and gradually building speed making sure I didn't have the reload pressed I got it a lot more. Slow down a little and build up speed. Since different controls and it's always switch weapons, reload, and shoot in that order, then it'll be 1, 2, and 3. Get used to doing 1 and 2 fast. Between 2 and 3, have it a tad slower. What should happen is your sword will swipe. If it doesn't swipe, you were holding down 2. If it does swipe, you're in the clear. Keep practicing that until you get it swiping each time. Then speed up.
So nostalgic. Im playing Infinite now and remembering Halo 2 Sword Canceling I had to look it up. I remember me and some friends getting into some crazy spots. This was almost two decades ago I feel old as shit
Rocats is a really solid runner who plays Bumper Jumper. He swapped the X and B button binds for a less awkward/painful motion, but makes everything else work well. So it's definitely doable.
@@Cryphon Nice. Do you the trick with a monitor with so little input delay or a TV with higher input delay? I'm trying it (on MCC) on a 10 year old LCD TV with max 60hz with a lot of imput delay. I don't know if getting a monitor will give better results.
@@WonderMePartyStrip I play on a monitor with 2 ms delay. The trick still works the same regardless of delay, but you'll have a much harder time actually aiming if enemies are moving.
Is there any advantage to a sort of reverse sword flying? I see r0cats do a normal sword cancel, but in the middle of the lunge he switches to his other weapon. I tried this and maybe it accelerates you a smidge faster? Reduces the risk of not hitting the sword cancel and just killing the enemy? example: Sword is out reticle is red, Preforms sword cancel with this button order: Y, X, R, Adds jump in middle of lunge, Profit??
i cant do it while zoomed in at a long distance but can if they turn my reticle red at a distance while hipfire stanced...even still this is awesome and felt great to learn
I've gotten pretty consistent at flying in general, but it's a lot harder to do with sniper rifles and beam rifles. I assumed it was because the reticle is smaller, but I've been practicing on a target that is standing still for a while now, and whenever i use any other weapon, i can fly off of moving targets really easily. Is there something different about sniper weapons that I dont understand?

How much do using other weapons like for instance rocket launcher vs. using a BR or carbine affect the animation? It almost feels like the reticle goes normal before the sword comes out a lot of the time.
did this with a 120hz monitor in 5 mins. this is what happens when you learn how to multishine which is this but over and over and over😭💀 if anyone doesn’t know what multishining is, look it up and you’ll see why i was able to do this with a little bit of ease💀💀

When I started teaching myself I found the hardest part was making sure that I took my finger off of X before I press RT so I kind of slam it into RS on the way down so I'm not touching it when I press RT
Ghost of Ronin yes it does I’ve been practicing but it’s difficult to get down but it is possible if your having trouble do y,x then spam rt to make sure your actually swinging the sword. Knowing a Rythm would make this way easier lol

The fact that they actually ADDED this back into Halo 2 makes me really happy, sword flying is super fun.

Update, you CAN, but even with a macro its so unreliable it only works 1 in 8 attempts.

Everytime I play Halo 2 multiplayer fiesta, I always get players who do these tricks and my sword tricks fail.

Even when i turned my fps to 30, i never was able to do this.
i only pulled it off twice on my first day of practicing, i think the fps on xbox is around 50ish with some dips
