    I think for an old goalie, especially one who publicly did not want to be in Calgary, a 1st Rounder of any kind and a solid young D-Man is all we could ask for....

    @kellyzak2375 2 месяца назад +10

    People can complain all they want and we all wanted this years first but the reality is this is the best offer we got and Markstrom held all the cards. We're in a rebuild and a young dman and first rounder is just another piece of the puzzle.

    Not a bad trade at all. I did not think that Markstrom would bring back a first round pick. I was expecting a second round pick at best. Conroy did well considering that Markstrom could dictate where he wanted to go. Best of luck to Marky, I hope he does well

    I think this is as good of a return as we could reasonably expect. Fanbases always overhype their own players and this is probably right about what market value is. I'm just glad this saga is over.

    If we traded Markstrom for a handshake last summer people would have danced in the streets. He had 1 good season on a bad team, 1 great first half of a season on a really good team, sprinkled with 2 seasons where he single handedly sewered the teams playoff chances. He's WAY overhyped/over paid & glad to jump the market while his value is marginally high. Take the first & run, player is a good throw in.

    @halemath 2 месяца назад +2

    Last time Flames made playoffs (2 yrs ago), we now only have Mang, Rasmus, Kylington (maybe?), Backlund, Coleman and Vladar left. Core is basically stripped & finally committed to a rebuild & couldnt be happier. This help keep next years 1st out of Mtl hands.

    We lose one Ball (Rick) and gain another Bahl (Kevin) perfectly balanced as all things should be

    After thinking of this, Connys' hands were tied by the no move clause. This stings a little bit but its not the end of the world. We are stocked with picks for 3 years

  • @jesd319
    @jesd319 2 месяца назад +4

    way too much stock was put in Marky in 4 years he has had only 2 good ones and was on track for another bad one from the start of his career he has done the same thing one on and one off in my mind prob one of the biggest disappointments in recent years so we needed defense first d and sounds like we got one whats not to like he is canadian and huge and plus minus not too shabby so i am going the optimistic way on this and say audios to Marky and welcome to Bahl hopefully you can put some players through the boards :)

    While I agree the return is a bit underwhelming, all you have to do is go back one year where it probably would've cost the Flames a 1st round pick to dump his contract. So honestly, if you think about it like that, it is not the worst. The main return in this trade is Dustin Wolf will finally become the starter

    Now with Bahl added, we just need to draft a D-Man and we can convert to the D of Red.

    This officially declares.. Even thou we already were... We are officially in rebuild mode not retool but straight up bottom of the league now ... With this trade where do we see the flames in the league position wise?... I think it would be easy to be bottom 5... Markstorm gave us all hope last season ...

    Kevin Bahl?? I love the size and he is young and we definitely need a defensive defenseman, but I can’t help but think this should have been a bigger and better trade. New Jersey obviously were in the position of power but I would have been ok giving the Devils a bit more (a 2nd rounder or a prospect) in order to get maybe Bahl and this years #10, especially since it was supposed to be available. Very underwhelming trade. I guess we’ll see

    As I mentioned a while back, I felt a lot of people would be underwhelmed with the return.
    I like this deal personally. Conroy filled a hole on the back end with an NHL ready d'man with serious size and decent upside after finishing his first complete year in the NHL. We need a d'man who can step in way more than a winger like Holtz imo. Both now and going forward.
    Bahl was in the Devils top-4 after Hamilton got hurt and played about 17.5 minutes a night. He kills penalties too. First round pick next year will probably in the middle of the pack. Two firsts this year, next year and the year after. 🙂
    We all have a tendency to overvalue our players when trying to extract value on Conroy's behalf in mock trades imo. So I think a good way to look at this is: Would we trade Connor Zary (semi Mercer equivalent) or the 10th overall (semi Devil's first pick equivalent) for two years of Markstrom with 30% retained? That is a Treliving style deal imo and I would be choked.
    Markstrom only has two years left on his deal and is 34 years old. He could be great, but his game could also be ready to fall off of a cliff. NJ is assuming a modicum of risk in this.

    I'll be honest, it looks like a bad trade to me, considering what we could have gotten for him. Pretty disappointing move from Conroy imho
    Has me much more worried about him being the guy to rebuild our team...

    Eww I really don’t like this return. I think we could’ve done better. I’m not someone who thinks we should’ve got the moon for him but this is brutal. I would have been ok if pick wasn’t top 10 protected or if we didn’t retain salary.

  • @drrr3

    I just got back to watching hockey and been watching NBA for years. In both leagues it wouldn’t make sense to trade a 33 yr old for a 10th overall pick unless it was LBJ.
    Knock on wood but markstrom could have a mid season next year so the pick could become something

    • @FlamesDigest

    How many more players can we trade for 3 or 4 line d-men? Marky, Tanev and Noah all turned into 3rd line d men, good thing we don’t need a centre or skill or anything:/
    If I’m a gm in the NHL I’m keeping Conroy on speed dial as he’s shown he is willing to trade good players for middle of weak returns.

    Put the facts on the table. Jacob age 34 nmc 9.09 save pct so where does that place him overall. Fact 2 the talent in this year's draft is the weakest in years. So big picture it's a deal to end the distraction and drama! Better for the years down the road. I think Markstrum was overvalued in this market!
