ooh, absolutely! That laugh chilled me when I first heard it. He did some great voice acting in the animated eps of Diabolical, I can toally see him doing a stellar job at voicing Joker.
I don't see him as a villain. His whole life he's been of service and they what? Took his kid and he was fucking an old woman who was controlling him with sex? The man should have a harem and hundreds of kids but everyone treats him like a puppet they can put back yard on the shelf when they are done with him. He doesn't know what to do anything if he's not being used or waiting on the shelf.
@williehaller5840 As far as categorization goes, he is the antagonist and villain of the show (and we love him for it). In-universe, Vought are the real villains, but he's not good by any means. But no, I don't think he's ALL bad. He told Noir himself that "no one is all bad," and that applies to him too. He never had a chance and was terribly wronged and mentally destroyed by Vought. Then he had people like Madelyn exploit his mental issues and use him for decades. Throughout the show, he definitely displayed that he has some serious humanity in him, which mostly just shows in his interactions with Ryan but also by how he kept Stormfront in his penthouse for over a year after she got burned and lost three limbs. Why? Despite everything that he is, genuine connections matter to him. He values and craves them, even when part of him hates himself for it. The fact that he didn't just replace Stormfront for some other female supe says more about him than some people think. The same goes for him not thinking, "Oh well, I could just have a bunch of other kids" and putting so much effort into Ryan and giving him everything he never had, even when it's sometimes misguided. Or how he went out of his way to not kill Maeve even until their last fight, not even after he knew she betrayed him. Homelander is a case of a man who is not a monster imo. The show gives you reminders that he was normal as a child and that he could have been better if he had been treated like a person rather than a product. But he commits monstrous acts over and over, which even traumatizes a part of his own psyche, based on how his nightmares and flashbacks include his own violent acts. A harem wouldn’t do anything for him. He could already have that if he wanted to. There are most likely dozens of willing supe women willing to serve him. But it would be a bunch of people mindlessly worshipping him instead of caring about him as a person (which is what he really wants, e.g.asking Madelyn if she ever cared, Maeve if their love was ever real, being thrilled about people loving his real self). There is such a major disconnect between what Homelander wants to be - a perfect, flawless god, and what he really is - a deeply flawed person with godlike powers who still has very human needs. He just never had anyone in his life to love him enough to tell him that it's not something he has to shame himself for and that him being the most powerful being on the planet and him being himself, including his humanity, can coexist. Sorry for the essay, haha, I was trying to keep it short but I'm really passionate about him and his story.
I don't talk to many people that care this much so it's nice. I totally think a harem would help. The guy was manipulated by Madeline with sex, which is a woman's power. That would help free him from dancing on the strings of his enemies; that ache is satisfied at home he won't look for it so much at work. Besides that's men at war every time in history. That's what men do everything for whether we know it or admit it or not; to enter the gates of heaven (sex). King David had a harem and he was blessed. It's nuts. In this country you can marry your car but not more than one woman. You can see it, right? Homelander coming home to a house full of wives and children happy to see him? A huge family that loves him? That would make anyone feel better I would think. Than coming home to an empty apartment, no matter how high up and big the tv is.
Yeah, I understand your point of view but we can agree to disagree. Madelyn is not exactly a prime example for a woman. She was a nasty POS who groomed, manipulated and used him, she’s probably one of the biggest roots why he turned out that way. Someone like him, who attaches himself to the rare few people he sees as worthy of him so badly he keeps a reminder of each of them in a chest in his penthouse, isn’t made for any type of poly imo, and there’s no canon indicator that he has any interest in that. The opposite really, I think a traditional loving family could have been what he really needed. It takes a special type of person to genuinely connect with him, to really understand him on a deep level and love him. He’s a very nuanced person who won’t just let in anyone. A bunch of random wives would just be there because he’s Homelander and has powers. He needs to be loved beyond that. At this point in his story arc it’s too late for it though, he's done with all of that and it'll just be a spiral into destruction.
this song gives me so much nostalgic vibes, i watched your joker toxic edit so often during quarantine 😂 good to see that youre still making edits after so many years
Haha, this song straight up makes me feel old because the first time I edited it was over 5 years ago! Still my favorite song to edit though, some things never change lol
You commented about homeland having such great potential if brought to mediums other than the main show. Imagine full moment, that we were finally delivered the superman style game that people have always wanted, except it’s a younger Homelander. You could frame the development of mechanics and abilities as being in line with him coming to grips with just how powerful he is. And balance out the gameplay by introducing some factor that can actually harm homelander that is overcome by the end of the game, thus feeding into the whole paradigm of him being unstoppable during the show. Plus, you obviously get a lot of room for both evil superman shenanigans and genuine character work. Considering how the boys franchise is clearly looking to expand (ironically becoming similar to the superhero franchising that itself mocks lol) I would consider a project like this to be on the cards. We all know that it would sell well.
Whoa, I never considered him as a character for a story-driven game! That's actually a fantastic idea. It would honestly be unexpected and of course, a massive success if done well. I can imagine it to be a bit too controversial, though. A lot of people would start complaining about him being glorified but I would play the hell out of a game like that, haha. With all the upcoming spin-offs, some of which sound very random to me, I think it would be a good idea to straight up give him a pre-quel show or even a movie if the budget is there for it. After seeing Diabolical, I would LOVE to see something that closes the gaps and shows what happened in those years and how he progressively got worse. With a well-placed timeskip and his old hairstyle Starr could still pass as a mid 30's Homelander.
@@alanacrane I suppose we are passed the era of games where God of War lets you drown the entire country a nihilistically murder innocent civilians to get in currency lol. Regrettably, I don’t think Anthony Starr can quite pull off a mid 30s Homelander. However, if it’s a straight to Amazon then I think it would be pretty feasible to de age him a bit. (hopefully in a way that isn’t uncanny Valley) if it’s a series then I think of full recasting of every recurring character like John and sitwell seems more feasible. Yo but imagine if it was a game and you had to deal with a mechanic of Homelanders public perception. Like if random civilians witness you do something “out of character” for the vaught Homelander persona then you have to sign a bunch of autographs and take a whole load of selfies with people in order to lower the bar down to acceptable levels. Also you could have ambient NCP interactions where certain civilians talk to him if you go up to them and homelander is just kind of bad at giving people wholesome superhero advice.
Really depends on the lightning imo, even in some season 4 scenes he does look younger but yeah, probably difficult to do without at least some make-up. They managed to make Stillwell look a lot younger for Gen V though but that was just one scene so who knows. I wouldn't mind them going full animated either and simply having him voice Homelander, worked like a charm in Diabolical. That reminds me, there was this old DC MMO, DC universe online, where you could push civilians off roofs for no reason, that wouldn't fly well either nowadays, haha. The villain experience is always fun in games, but pretty rare. I can imagine that perfectly! Like, having a "public approval" meter that goes up and down depending on what you do or rather, how well you hide it. And health packs are milk on default lol
I'm doing ok, thank you :) So glad you liked it! I can't say I recommend the comics much, I first read them a couple of years ago after seeing 1 or 2 seasons of the show, recently re-read them and...well, they have a bad rep for a reason, haha. The show definitely did everything better, especially Homelander. But yeah, I always read the source material too with comic book media, so I hope you'll like it more than I did!
@@alanacrane Thanks for sharing! I actually interested some stuff. Recently, got a spoiler from the comics wich relate to "Black Noir". And it got my full attention. I really wonder how the finally will be different in the show, compare to comics
Waking up to another Alana Edits Homelander video? Hell yes! If someone set up a fundraiser to get Antony Starr a job voicing Joker in the next Batman movie, millions of people would donate.
Amazing as always! He’s such a terrifying villain.
Thank you again!! :) Yes, he's absolutely both one of the scariest and the best
