Two months ago I began my solo twin peaks journey. I finished the first two seasons and desperately wished I had someone to talk to about it. The algorithm gods (or perhaps the white lodge?) recommended your channel and I'm so thankful for that. After bingeing the original run I binged your videos up until/before starting FWWM. After watching that movie, I watched your video of course. And every time I sat down to watch an episode of the return, I would watch your video right after...until this week. I am now on the final episode. I feel like a transformative time in my life is coming to an end, and since I'm now somehow ahead of your videos, I can look forward to reflecting back on this time along with you, much like I did when I first found this channel. It been so fun having someone there that is processing everything as I am, and to help me feel a little less crazy on this journey. I just want to thank you for these videos, you have a viewer for life in me! Also have to give mention to your intros, the set design, the happy intro song dance while enjoying a delicious snack, your thoughtful recaps....it all adds so much to the experience.
I’m also interested in seeing what else this channel has to offer. It’s rare to see someone stick with something like twin peaks for so long, but they did it.
Andy was the one showing the most compassion at that moment, comforting the girl. Remember what was said about the keys to getting into the White and Black lodges. Also a lot of people discovered Lissie through Twin Peaks. And I've had some Monica Bellucci dreams too.
BEST LINE: "there are so many things happening, why am I surprised by this?" like Hawk says to Cooper in season 2: "You're on the path. You don't need to know where it leads. Just follow." HAPPY NEW YEAR!
The familial bond between Diane and Janey-E sort of ties together your earlier speculation that Janey-E might have been a construct and your theory that Diane might be a doppelganger. Could a man who writes a script and casts himself as a prominent character within the production be considered a form of dreamer who lives inside the dream? Maybe Gordon was troubled because dream Monica was hinting that he’s actually David Lynch. 22:13 Kyle MacLachlan working hard to justify his top billing in the credits. 23:38 I don’t think we’ve ever seen such an authoritative side to Andy before. I wonder if Freddie is a fugitive from justice in England following the incident he describes. 36:05 And we all thought Leland was the only Palmer parent with something nasty inside. What with Freddie’s anecdote and the trucker’s fate, this episode is kinda heavy on neck trauma for unpleasant individuals who don’t have the sense to know when they should leave someone alone. 38:44 The description of Billy’s bleeding reminds me of the man in the cell who kept repeating what others said. 43:55 Not a turkey and cheese sandwich?
Phillip Jeffries: "It was a dream! We live _inside_ a dream..." But _who_ is the Dreamer? The ancient phrase Monica tells Gordon comes from the Upanishads: _We are like the spider. We weave our life, and then move along in it. We are like the dreamer who dreams and then lives in the dream._ _This is true for the entire universe. That is why it is said, ‘Having created the creation, the Creator entered into it’._ _This is true for us. We create our world, and then enter into that world. We live in the world that we have created._ My personal opinion is: Laura Palmer appearing to David Lynch-through his self-insert, Gordon Cole ("having created the creation, the Creator entered into it")-seemingly projected mid-air in front of him like she is on a movie screen, several episodes back, is the most important clue in the entire season about what is going on. I remember when David Bowie died in 2016, there was speculation in the TP fandom whether or not we would see Phillip Jeffries return. Prior to his death, Showtime had published the full cast list of the series, 217 credited actors, which didn't include Bowie. (But it did immediately generate a lot of fan theories, including "is Michael Cera Andy and Lucy's child??") Lynch/Frost had asked Bowie to return, but because of his cancer-which he kept hidden from the public until his death-he had to decline. But he did give them permission to use previous footage of him from FWWM. The Giant being named "the Fireman" is significant with all the fire symbolism in Twin Peaks, and what his role in all this might be. As Hawk said, "it depends upon the intention. The intention behind the fire."
Bowie was busy making videos for Black Star ( they said at times he was in pain ). Thomas Jerome Newton joined the FBI and used cover name Phillip Jeffries. 🔥
Wow Bob Wow! I am so ready for you to experience the final 4 parts. I predict many squeaky inhalations and giggles of excited confusion. And, personally, the 'Billy' story is one of the most horrific aspects of The Return, but it took me repeat viewings to put it together. When it clicked, however, it felt like when I first 'understood' Mulholland Drive and got me all tingly with goosebumps.
Quick factoid: if you look closely at the netherspace inside Sarah Palmer's face, you will see a hand. One of the fingers is emphasized, darker than the others. This is the same finger Gordon Cole told Tammy about on the plane ride - the "spiritual finger." Would also like to proactively debunk a fairly common mistake - there is also a set of teeth inside Sarah Palmer's face, which has been theorized as Laura Palmer's smile from the picture in the trophy case from her high school. Frost has confirmed this is not the case.
Agreed. A "wow" episode. Makes your brain explode. Besides that, I was (and still am) very happy with 2 extremely funny (typically Lynchian) moments. 5:31 - Gordon Cole thinking "Who THE HELL wrote this script?" 10:57 - Imho, probably the funniest moment in 'The Return'. You took it rather... subdued though, lol.
Another great reaction! So… like you said, it looks like Sarah has “something “ inside of herself… it could be useful to ask to yourself :” since when?”…Was that “something “ already inside of her many years ago? After all, when Copper entered into the Black Lodge in the last episode of season 2, she was able to deliver a message to Major Briggs saying :” I’m in the Black Lodge with Dale Cooper… I’m waiting for you..” And, think about a few episodes ago, we saw a female character and “something “ literally crawled inside of her mouth… could there be a connection? Maybe….. 🤔
Remember the girl back in episode 8 and the frog moth crawling into her mouth? Think about who she might be now, how old she would be... Maybe she is Sarah. ;)
forgot how many funny scenes in this episode. The squeegee guy, "how many times have I told you, this is what we do in the FBI!", "last night, I had another Monica Bellucci dream"
Freddie's "power glove" is green. No surprise there. Another commenter theorized that items tied to Lodge Beings are green due to Lynch's familiarity with the "Heart Chakra". Green represents harmony, balance, peace, compassion, kindness, growth, renewal, healing, prosperity, abundance & love. Basically, the Heart Chakra (Green) contains the ingredients we need to fight the evils of this world. And I think it's also significant that Freddie's "power glove" is rubber. "Rubber is an insulator, meaning it's non-conductive and can block the flow of electricity."
Funny, I was making some chicken noodle/ cilantro rice/ egg drop soup when I received your notification! And you came bearing gifts!! Thank you! Loved this episode, your brilliant opening (keeping with the doppelgänger theme) and reaction, per usual 😊 You’re closer than you think… 😉 See you again soon & happy 2025 to you & yours!! ♥️
Great reactions. I’ll be saving my comments for after the finale as I don’t want to spoil anything. But keep up the good work. This has been a great journey.
No spoilers. Just me philosophising: So many things in Twin Peaks can be interpreted in several ways. But for me that scene with Sara Palmer has always ment that she litterally shows a small part of her inner darkness. Something is consuming her from the inside. Is it a manifestation of her guilt, or something even more sinister? One theme in the return is the nature of evil. And I think we are supposed to question our perception of Sara as just another blameless victim. How much did she know or at least suspect when it came to Leland’s abuse? How many years did she bear witness to it without interfering in any meaningful way? Does that make her partly responsible? I do not have all the awnsers, but I think that the Return is asking us those questions.
"I think my uncle was there. I'm not sure... Don't remember if my uncle was there." - Megan, episode 14 "Her uncle is joining us. She hasn't seen him in a very long while." - woman in car, episode 11 "She's my cousin, but doesn't she look almost exactly like Laura Palmer?" - the Arm, season 1, episode 3
There was also the presentation in coded language of the dancer Lil in FWWM, “ she’s my mother’s sister girl “, when Chet Desmond explained to Sam Stanley the meaning of the code in that sentence, Stanley noticed that the concept of “uncle” was missing in that sentence so that probably meant that the sheriff’s uncle was in a federal prison. The idea of uncle is definitely a recurring theme for some reason….
**You have spoilers in other comments.** The Monica Bellucci sequence is iconic. I love it and still want more. Andy going to the White Lodge was on NO ONE's bingo card. The furnace room James checks is where we first saw Bob in Season 1 Episode 2, in Cooper's dream. The Sarah Palmer face reveal is my favorite moment of anything ever. I'm obsessed with her. DO YOU REALLY WANT TO FUCK WITH THIS? Yes. Yes, I do. HOWEVER - Bloody Marys are for the MORNINGTIME herney. Not nighttime. Must have okra and beans otherwise nope. But she is hangry, so... **Remember Sarah Palmer's last appearance in Season 2 finale** ****Review the season thus far****
I wonder if Lynch has an interest in cockney rhyming slang -- some of the slang words are 3 or 4 times removed from the actual real word. So it would fit with his ethos of things being coded.
Yep, I noticed the green gloved Freddy / Freddy Krueger (gloved) connection too - both have permanent gloves on 1 hand, both called Freddy. Krueger acted by Robert Englund. Green Freddy from England... (Also Fred Krueger appears *in dreams* ...and there was that furnace scene after green Freddy's story - I hadn't noticed that.
I feel like it must be a reference to Freddy Krueger. The guy's name is Freddie. He has a dangerous glove on his right hand. And we have a scene in a boiler room right after talking to him.
From Gordon's perspective he is the dreamer becoming aware of the dream (but we too are the dreamer only watching a creation from someone else's imagination), the dream is that they are just part of a TV show, more than that they are part of an older TV show that they can never go back to. I believe that the "black oil" is creosote which is used to coat the poles of electrical cables and cable TGVs. "The fireman" is significant. The term is used to denote the stories of imagination that is told. Remember "Fire walk with Me." Also remember when Sarah Palmer took off her face it was a TV signal underneath. You really can't ignore the fact that David Lynch said this was all about Television. There is a doppelganger theme because this all about two different shows. The Twin Peaks show of the past and the new show. The old show was destroyed by the insistence of the studio to solve the mystery of who killed Laura Palmer. The New show is a commentary on how times have changed (gotten more violent and gory) and how we can't go back.
The Blue Rose worn by Lil in FWWM is the same colour and fabric as Paul McCartney's costume on the Sgt Pepper's album cover. He is Paul's doppelgänger. He is a 'tulPa' ('tulpa' = anagram of 'paul t'.) The official number-code for that particular shade of blue is James Hurley's license plate number! Same digits. (Coincidence?)

My interpretation is that the substance you said looks like oil is melted gold: the opposite of, say, scorched engine oil.
All the Sarah Palmer stuff in this season is so good. And just the way Grace Zabriskie says the line "I'll eat you", fantastic.
i was so sad but your video notification cheered me up

The teeth are literally taken straight from Laura Palmer’s picture. The exact same teeth. But that doesn’t necessarily contradict what Frost said.
Lissie is my favorite music performance of the year. I fell head over heels in love with her catalogue
Agreed. A "wow" episode.

"Snapped his Gregory" is Cockney rhyming slang. Gregory->Peck->neck
Good on you! I figured it had to be CRS, but I couldn't figure that one out.
Using crs can really get you in Barney
I wonder if Lynch has an interest in cockney rhyming slang -- some of the slang words are 3 or 4 times removed from the actual real word. So it would fit with his ethos of things being coded.
They drop out the word that rhymes, so anyone who doesn't know that slang would have no idea "what yer on about."
Another one we heard was "loaf" (as in "loaf of bread") for "head".
beware the "spoiler" from mr gadfly
...was this how you heard about the death of David Bowie?
Sarah Palmer is surely not what she seems to be
Feel free to ponder The Guy Who Repeats Things from now until the end of linear time.
