The woman hiding under the stairs with Steven, when Becky shoots up her apartment, is played by Alicia Witt, who is another returning cast member. She plays Gersten Hayward, the youngest Hayward sister, whom we last saw at the Hayward family dinner in season 2. Angelo has popped up in other David Lynch films before like Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive, but the uncredited pianist in this episode is a musician named Smokey Miles.
I think Dana Ashbrook is one of the underrated actors in the large cast of Twin Peaks but he absolutely sells that bizarre scene! The look on his face is priceless.
unnatural corn = creamed corn = pain and sorrow fire = electricity, which powers the world of twin peaks 'Hawk, electricity is humming. You hear it in the mountains and rivers. You see it dance among the seas and stars, and glowing around the moon. But in these days, the glow is dying. What will be in the darkness that remains?'
I feel like Candie is a being from The Lodge. She's constantly day dreaming and being fascinated by ordinary things, as if she's new to this world. I feel like the scene where she was trying to swat the fly is symbolic of how she was sent from The Lodge to help eliminate the "unclean" side of the Mitchum brothers, or to "heal" their hearts. It certainly seems like Candie has some sort of healing power, since the cut she gave to Rodney Mitchum healed really quickly. Maybe she's also the one who put that dream / vision in the mind of Bradley Mitchum.
Quick factoid: the redheaded woman huddling with Steven is played by the same girl who played the piano in the S2 episode “May the Giant Be With You.” You wouldn’t be able to conclude this from watching the show, so it isn’t a spoiler, but it has been confirmed that the redheaded woman is also the same character as her S2 counterpart, meaning that she is still playing Donna Hayward’s little sister.
I don’t know what it is with that scene in the end. The combination of that music change, the kind of out of reach familiarity Dale experiences, the old woman having her life improved and giving thanks the way she did, Candie. It is bewildering but extremely memorable
The piano player is Smokey Miles, aka Count Smoke-ula. He's a Los Angeles based piano player. He faked playing and then Angelo Badalamenti wrote the three "Italian restaurant songs" later. I think it all fits beautifully. So glad you enjoyed this episode. It is my personal favorite of S3. Miriam is in bad shape but confirmed to be alive. She emerges next to Ronnette's bridge, just like Ronnie did. We get confirmation that Shelly and Bobby were once married and had Becky together. We see Gersten Hayward, the cycles of violence Bobby sees and it part of, the wild portal stuff, Gordon Cole looking at the camera and saying "I saw dirty bearded men in a room." And of course Mrs. Jackpots and the gangsters with hearts of gold. So wholesome.
That raisin bran muffin looked and sounded delicious. Glad you enjoyed it! The obvious food option for this episode was cherry pie, but to me, one of the most memorable scenes was the Mitchum brothers simply eating cereal. Such a mundane act and rarely seen in tv. I could picture them as little boys sitting at the breakfast bar eating their cereal when they were kids! It had a weird innocence about it which made an impact on me and I just feel such odd affection for them. So thanks for going with my suggestion. ❤
Loved this episode. So much happening. The cherry pie became a plot point. And you could say the kid who fired the gun into the RR had a “Little Nicky” look to him. Great reactions as always, looking forward to the next few episodes all the way to the end.
39:56 "You mean to say your kid doesn't have one? No gym set?" I feel like Dougie just said "Son-ny Jim" and they heard "Son need gym" How could Dougie have gotten across the idea that his kid doesn't have a gym set? And how did Sonny Jim even come up in the first place?
Please, do not worry about getting too weirdly deep with something made by Lynch. 😉 Besides that: when I watched this season first time, it was this episode that made me kinda stop 'worrying' about Dougie and his future. Because, ever since the moment he was 'caught' by the incomplete Cooper, Dougie hasn't put a foot wrong.
They don't show what happened to Leo on the show but in one of Mark Frost's books, he confirms that Leo was found dead after Windom Earle's tarantula trap killed him, which we see in the Season 2 finale.
The redhead Steven us with is the same actor and character as Donna's piano playing redheaded sister in the old episode where the Palmers visit the Haywards.
10:28 Those shots seem pretty tightly grouped to me. I wonder if Shelly made sure Becky knew how to handle a gun, remembering the time she fired at Leo, only winged him, and wound up almost burning to death because of it. 15:09 Rigor mortis usually passes within around 8 hours, so the corpse’s arm sticking up several days after the murder could be another temporal peculiarity. 20:05 He was the drug dealer who met with Richard Horne and put him in a foul mood shortly before Richard ran over the little boy. Shelly’s taste in men has not improved. 22:55 Nightmare fuel time again. 25:25 I could be wrong, but isn’t that the symbol that was on the card Mr C showed Darya back in part 2? 29:10 I was not expecting Diane to mention having seen him. 30:50 He’s wrong but right. The attempts on CooperDougie’s life are because Mr C wants the other Cooper dead, and not directly related to the crimes of which Mullins has been made aware - and yet Mr C does have ties to the conspirators, and has been using them to arrange the attempted hits on CooperDougie. 35:50 If Dale were himself at this point, I think he would have been suspicious about being taken somewhere so remote, and things might have turned out less pleasantly. 46:02 Intention is also a distinguishing factor in the two shooting incidents that occurred in this part - Becky fired deliberately, while the boy had no idea that the gun was even real.
Has anyone else realized that the "experiment" has arrived to Twin Peaks in this episode? I don't want to spoil anything so I'm not calling the experiment by their name lol
Always great to see your reactions!!!! The red headed girl hiding with Steven is Donna's sister, her name is never mentioned during this season but it's her, if you look at the credits, it's her, she was the little girl that we saw in the season 2 first episode playing the piano and dressed as a fairy while the Palmers and the Haywards were having dinner aaaaand.....the guy that Shelly meets outside of the Double R is called Red and we saw him on two occasions during season 3: at first, in the first episode when Shelly is having drinks with her friends at the Roadhouse and in the distance we also see James near the bar, this guy, Red, he's there too, and the second time, we saw him a few episodes ago, it is the guy who runs a drug ring in TP, he was having a conversation with Richard, kind of making fun of him calling him "kid", he also did the coin trick, just before that horrible individual (Richard) murdered the child at the crossroad in a hit and run. So, it looks like Shelly still has a thing for baddies.
Instincts are pretty much spot on in this one. Now you're equating fire with intention (good and bad) what other equivalancies can you make... food? Corn? we know creamed - bad (pain and sorrow) what's good though? What else? Luck? Love? etc
Raisin Bran crunch is the edible version of raisin brand…same cardboard flakes but with a “non nutrative cereal varnish” to cut your gums and keep the flakes cruchy in milk. I recommend hostess snack size fruit pie with real cherry fruit, if you want something handy…damn good pielet…. I’ve got to get home and there are so many miles to go…but I’ll listen to my Pnk Room Napster download as loud as I can…time will fly….POP!
Surely any gas station convenience store will carry the original size cherry fried pie…or at least it’s doppelgänger ….manufactured recently ish…. but they may keep them upstairs behind the tea kettle ruclips.net/video/VA6bVJ1vw_A/видео.htmlsi=EvGBV625GtjwQk3-
I hope you make your own vid eddition because there's like a bunch of stuff you miss just by looking elsewhere or... That scene of the kid who shoot the gun is so powerful The shot of him then the dad perfectly captures the aspect of repetition of a violence cycle you've mentioned earlier
the name of the piece on the piano is "HEARTBREAKING" by Angelo Badalementi.. Very appropriate.. Loving all these Reactions.. Looking forward to your next Vid.. Cherry Pie on Deck I assume! There Will never be another David Lynch
That screaming woman/sick girl car scene feels to me like a visual and audial representation of societal decay (which is already a very prevalent theme in The Return, imo). I don't actually like cereal UNTIL it's gone soggy...I always leave it for ages before tucking in. But I can't disagree with Diane...you can't beat a cigarette with a cup of coffee 😁 Very late to the party on this one...and there are lots of non-spoilery informative comments here already, which don't need any reiteration from me 😊 So I'll just say how much I'm loving the intros...it would be amazing if they could be developed into a short 'Recipe Detective' film (that we can then watch) after you've finished The Return ❤
So we disagree on how to enjoy cereal - but it's okay - I so appreciate how thoughtful and supportive you are!! Thank you for being a part of Reel Food!!!
@@Reel_Food It's not so much the taste (which is great, either way), but I really dislike the sound/sensation of food being crunched loudly inside my own head...although I will always make an exception for crisps and peanuts 😁 Well, thank YOU for giving us the best Twin Peaks reactions EVER ❤
Shelly has always been into the bad boys. When Bobby joined law enforcement she probably lost interest in him. Now she's crushing for that drug dealer. Becky is walking in the footsteps of her mother. I think the scene with the screaming mother and her zombie daughter was a vision like the one Major Briggs had. Only now Bobby sees that his daughter will not turn out well. Btw Leo Johnson was shot by Mr C according to Mark Frost.
My previous comment wasn't quite right.... you haven't equated Fire with Intention, you've equated Fire with Electricity (as per Hawk)... however you have aligned Fire (and therefore electricity) with Intention. So what is fire?
The old lady screaming in her car is simultaneously one of the funniest and most unnerving things David Lynch has ever captured.
AAAAA

Agreed. The entire ramping up of tension throughout this season and especially this episode is great.
The woman hiding under the stairs with Steven, when Becky shoots up her apartment, is played by Alicia Witt, who is another returning cast member. She plays Gersten Hayward, the youngest Hayward sister, whom we last saw at the Hayward family dinner in season 2.

I think Dana Ashbrook is one of the underrated actors in the large cast of Twin Peaks but he absolutely sells that bizarre scene! The look on his face is priceless.
The man kissing Shelly was the same guy that was selling the drugs to Richard before Richard had a rather fatal meeting with a little boy.
Balthazar Getty.
@@greyeyed123 Balthazar Getty (sick name, btw) previously worked with Lynch on "Lost Highway"
The look Kyle MacLachlan gives when the music switches in the last scene probably is one of the best acting I've ever seen
unnatural corn = creamed corn = pain and sorrow
fire = electricity, which powers the world of twin peaks
'Hawk, electricity is humming. You hear it in the mountains and rivers. You see it dance among the seas and stars, and glowing around the moon. But in these days, the glow is dying. What will be in the darkness that remains?'
Black fire - Don't get any black burn

I like this theory!
"He's dead."
His detective skills are still sharp.
”wrapped in plastic”

weird!! And totally Twin Peaks!!
That wasn't Angelo playing at the end, his name is Smokey Miles :) it is written by Badalamenti though, it's called Heartbreaking!
It is indeed heartbreaking❤
And possibly the best piece of original music from The Return. At least in my opinion. 😊
It’s so reminiscent of the “I’m so sorry” scene after Maddie’s death, but in a feel good way instead of tragedy.
@ Yes! ”The World Spins”. Great parallel.
That wasn’t Angelo on piano 😂 Shelly is seeing the guy who triggered Richard into having road rage that lead to him killing that kid
40:36 This melody sound like the song when Dale enters the Lodge in the last episode of season 2 (Jimmy Scott - Sycamore Trees)
The guy who kissed Shelly was the magic man who made the coin trick with Richard
That story about David Lynch inspired a scene in Blue Velvet
The kids from the first scene are co-creator Mark Frost’s actual kids!
I am so fucking obsessed with the screaming honker lady and the zombie niece LOL
Many men fell in love with Candi; she's a delightful person.
The ending to this episode is superb…but I can’t wait until you get to the next one!

"David Lynch does like driving shots, doesn't he?" Truer words rarely spoken, Sweetheart. Truer words rarely spoken.
Shellys new bf is played by Balthazar Getty, who also is Pete in Lost Highway (the guy Bill Pullman turns into)
Shelley's new boyfriend's name is "Red".

"Son need gym" haha I love this!
Cherry piee'ee'eee - according to Jim 😅
It wasn't Angelo in the episode but it was one of his compositions. I love that whole sequence. Very moving.

Apart from obvious exceptions such as Ike the Spike, Dougie betters the lives of everyone he encounters.
