Interesting! I recently bought a new lens for my camera and have been wanting to randomly go somewhere to explore and shoot photos. Looks like this could be the place!
Thanks! Loved this so much! Visited this zoo, the merry-go-round and the park often with my parents as a child in the early 1940's. Other times we'd go to the pony rides on the corner of Fletcher Drive and Riverside Drive! ❤😘
I used to LOVE that area before it was open to the public and it was a huge expedition to hike up, scale walls, climb fences, to drop down into. And the hippies that gathered back there in the day (bit before my time...but there were still posters when I was a kid). I understand CCR played there. There was also the fear element when I was a kid. Homeless people residing there.
Same here. Exactly as you said. Lots of movies & tv shows filmed there. My buddies and I used to hang out there in the early 80's. went there on an Elementary School field trip in the early 70's. Creepy place back in the day. Made it all the more enticing, especially as a teen.
My friend you have earned yourself a subscription. You've scouted wonderful location for all my upcoming shoots. The pleasure is all on this side of the screen. Mazel tov.
I made sure to find this place when i was in LA from CT, it's pretty cool. The signs inside say they left it up so you could see how much more humane zoos are now, ....right. Anyways fun fact, they filmed the bear scenes from Anchorman in the stone grottos at the beginning of this video.
I was there yesterday its wide open. Not only is it wide open but I was surprised by the number of people there. There were first timers, joggers, people pic nicking. I ran into women walking their mutts ( as well as their dogs ). I felt very safe and everyone I talked to seemed to be having fun. This place is apparently quite popular. I was there on a Saturday afternoon and it was busy
Thanks for your answers! I was there on march 20th this year -of course it is wide open. Fell victim to googles note "closed" which referred to the original zoo when I made the comment^^
My Mom use to take me and my brothers here every summer back in the 70's. She also remembers the Lincoln Heights zoo. Good memories! :)
This channel is awesome!! As an avid LA history buff I am hooked!!
+vinicio ordonez I completely agree! Have taken a peek into the book Secret Stairs of Los Angeles yet?
Awesome..I've been through griffith park so many times, how did I not find this. Thanks Tom!
I visited this old LA Zoo from 56 or 57 till sometime in the early 60s. It closed in 65 in favor of the present LA Zoo.

I just visited here not long ago as well... definitely neat being able to climb into some of the old enclosures and cages! :-)

I just went there today. Funny how the places you were walking through are now covered in grafitti though.
Mary Zorilita Bellamy What a shame!
was just here yesterday
Due to google maps durably closed. Is this correct? What is the reason for this and is there any possibility to go there though?
Yes, you can still go there. I just did today...
