Cadillac STS. They say you cant teach old dogs new tricks, but try telling that to the folks at Cadillac. The brand has more than a century of history but in recent years it has undergone a radical transformation. Gone are the soft, bloated luxury yachts of the past, replaced by world-class performance-oriented sedans exemplified by cars like Cadillacs flagship STS.
Welcome to our comprehensive Kelley Blue Book review of the Cadillac STS.
While Cadillac could have designed a heritage-inspired STS, its stylists did the exact opposite, creating a crisp, futuristic design dominated by origami-like body creases. Available with V6 or V8 engines, rear- or all-wheel drive and a slew of high tech goodies, the STS is an American take on the full-size luxury category that doesnt mind mixing it up with the imports. I just bought my first Cadillac yesterday. Not an STS but an '01 Deville I'm only 17 and I want to own a Caddy til the day I die. They are the most amazing car I have ever driven
Now you're 27 years old! (As of 2022)
did the northstar blow up yet?
@@silver3llo732 they aren't that bad lol
Just got this car I love it so much already it’s so smooth and I love the feeling and look of it
This car is grossly underrated.
I was lucky enough to buy a Red STS in the UK last week with only 5000 miles on it...Right hand drive...immac...effortless 100 mph motorway driving where allowed...In a land of BMWs MCedes etc this car stands out and is very rare......I live in the UK and Vancouver...I also have in Vancr a 2003 pearl white Eldorado ETC low mileage and immac....now getting rare......I love Caddies ..My first was a red 1975 Coupe De Ville...which my friends called a Pimp Mobile....
+Ian Rowlandian These Cadillac's are very nice cars. I have several older ones myself. The newest one is a 2005 Deville Final year Special Editon as my daily driver and I love it. I don't consider the 75 Deville a pimp mobile but a nice big luxury car from a past era. American cars use to be big and powerful until they started changing to compete with the competitors. Big mistake for Cadillac, Lincoln and the rest! They all should still be making big cars like they always did.
goatmudiay Yes and there was also a V6 engine available. But the Northstar V8 is the way to go if you decide to buy a Cadillac.
goatmudiay why have you ever owned one
Just got me a STS ,love it.Very fast and smooth car but most important spacious . I had owned a Mercedes prior to this so by far I can honestly agree that the Cadillac is much funner to drive!
The problem with Mercedes Benz, as compared to say, Alfa Romeo, BMW, and Infinity, is that Benz somehow leaves "fun" and involvement out of the Recipe. They are well-engineered, safe and sometimes nice-looking, but are not great driver's cars unless you buy an AMG Model. Sorry Benz Fan Boys, but it's true!
Beautiful car, I love the these STS and the DTS models. Too bad they were both discontinued in 2011.
+LocDawgd I don't even consider the new Cadillac's REAL Cadillac's anymore. Cadillac, Lincoln and Buick should all still be making big luxury cars instead of trying to be something else then they actually are. They are now trying to compete for something that is not in their league. You cannot compare any older Cadillac (except the Cimarron) with any of the new Cadillac's. There is just no comparison anymore.
This is the best car I have love it Cadillac STS (2008)
💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞
The sts V is the 4.4L and the n/a northstar is 4.6 320hp
I'll take this car over any E-class, M, GS or, 5-series! ;-)
The v8 is 4.6L not 4.4L> The STS-V has the 4.4L Supercharged.
Exactly...i was about to say the samething...and its 320 horsepower not 300..
i love my sts. classic american beauty. more power than needed in the v8 makes this car fun to drive. plus 28 mpg hwy. try to get that out of any other full sixed luxury sport car. it's a keeper
Todd Strickland I love mine too brother
A very fair and honest report on a fine and unjustly underrated car.
I have an 2008 STS V8 and it is wonderful. I love driving it. It is so not HO HUM. JP
Exactly, I got my 2006 for 17k cash and it runs like a dream and still looks new
How about now?
I'm doing research in 2021 on this Vehicle thinking about purchasing one as a around town second car is every thing still up to PAR on you Cadillac and is it still running strong
@Browningate i don't know about him but my 2008 does
I had the honor of driving the 2011 STS for the weekend and it was great! That car is beautiful it stands out, it's bolder than Mercedez and BMW because face it, those cars are so commercial that they turned bland like Honda.
It's smooth and comfortable on a road trip and it's fast and fiery when you put it in sport mode. I timed the STS at 0-60 in 6.9 seconds. I've driven Mercedez, BMW, Acura and none were like this.
I have one and it is the best cadillac i have ever owned by far!
I own this car I love it but it’s in the shop right now:(
Smokey grey blue
Tan interior
V6
story of the sts: in the shop
Wonderful review. Great info. Technical without being boring and interesting without being sappy.
I have the 05 awd 1sg. I put the euro spec tail lights on, stsV fiberglass hood, all aluminum trim interior and steering wheel, platinum grill, bbs rs wheels, soft top, lowering springs from cts gen 2 soon also to go on.
Awesome car
It competes with the Lexus GS350, BMW 528i, and Audi A6.
My favorite STS year!
@myjanuary151987
no. the CTS belongs to the C class, the STS belongs to the E.
Love the sts I got a 05 sts it’s a v8 gotta have that v8 power it not the best on gas but it’s worth it for me
How? It handles great and has a great interior.
Standard features include air conditioning w/dual-zone climate controls, power tilt/telescopic leather-wrapped steering wheel w/radio and climate controls, cruise control, leather upholstery, 8-way power front seats, keyless start, premium sound system, and compass.
Very luxurious, reasonably priced
Very powerful and sporty
Very good car.. good value for the money
I'm really liking this!
Cadillac is the only American car I like...
I love my car very happy 💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞
Hold down the T/c for 8 seconds... enjoy! You're welcome.
Stability system off? What does this do?
@@prayerpoint7241 the cars computer is disabled. We'll, the traction and stability part. Donuts, drift steer and burnouts become easier to do.
The STS is one of the better GM sedans. I think it is very nice overall. It just isn't quite up to the level of the competing sedans from Europe and Japan.
cadillac is back, and there interior still needs improvement but the overall design is top notch
my brother has this car and its a fuckin smooth ass ride.
Powerfull v6 which surprised me and its really comfortable.
@dagr382 so true, my parents got one about two years ago, my god! I love to drive that car, im currently looking for a second hand one myself! (except i want the STS-V lol)
Took a 2009 STS V for a test drive a few weeks ago.it was a beast pretty decent car but the trans felt kinda clunky. So unfortunately was a no go for me. but still a cool car!👍
my mother was given a choice between the 2009 STS V-8 Norstar! and a merc milan and she choose the milan due to the color of the car...
@dslcobra Sir, the E65 745 served a normal lifetime from 2001-2004 (4 years)...the revised E66 750 served from 2005-2008 (also 4 years)....doesn't seem like a quick discontinue to me. I highly suggest you check yours. Im not a top moderator on Bimmerfest for nothing.
I don't like the CTS at all, it's way too small, I wish they would have just gave this car a fresh update, without the Northstar!
I wish they would have start putting LS Motors in them
Like the CTS - Very good, especially for a GM car, but not yet as good as its German or Japanese competitors.
I want black one!
@Bandogg88 That's what YOU say but, I have 7 ppl. that, agree with me!
Also...I'm pretty sure they're thinking, why pay more for something that's materialistically worth equal, or less?
the 2005-2011 (US) 2007-present (China) Cadillac STS is assembled in
Lansing, Michigan, United States
Shanghai, China
Kaliningrad, Kaliningrad Oblast, Russia
I am a patient guy, but this is one of the few videos that I just can not bear to watch to the end. so I'll just leave this comment and go...
@dslcobra Funny because the 745/750/760's models were the best selling 7-Series models to date....
the engine on the 2005-2011 (US) 2007-present (China) Cadillac STS/
Cadillac SLS (China)
Engine
3.6 L LY7 V6
4.4 L V8
4.6 L Northstar LH2 V8
You must of not viewed the new one such as the CTS-V huh?
I agree with you. As for value, the STS and CTS are as good as anything else out there as far as options, performance and especially comfort goes. It's all about what you prefer.
My preference goes to Cadillac because I fit much more comfortably in Cadillacs than I do Mercedes, and that's always been the case as far back as I can remember.
@She11y Too bad it's discontinued... 'gonna fuse with the DTS...
Like how they say it looks like a performance car I always thought they were front wheel drive
some of the old ones are front wheel drive but they switched to rear wheel drive to accommodate a sportier performance and handling trying to compete with European brands
I miss this Era of Cadillac when they didn't make their cars look like Cheese-Graters .... LOL
I know that this video is 10 years old but still why is the video quality so bad? It’s kind of pixelated & blurry
@th3ha1og0d I agree. That's like, BMW ignoring the 5series! Smh..
This guy has no idea what he's talking about saying this is not a car of heritage design. It clearly has Cadillac heritage all over it. The sharp crisp lines and stacked headlights are inspired from 60's Caddys. The sloped rear pillar and short stubby trunk are inspired from the 80-85 Seville. The rear looks as if it was inspired from the late Eldo of 92-04.
I have one of these i seen 160 on the dash and im a car guy so im like wtf i never drove it yet need small work on it
These were good cars. Cadillac made a mistake by getting rid of the DTS and this. They don’t understand people anymore. This nation is a mess
A lot of people don't want to seek the knowledge that the improved Northstar pretty much resolved the headgasket failure issue. RWD V8 STS is a good car for sure. I know of a low mileage 97 Eldorado with original coolant. It's just too bad maintenance is never read or followed. Buying a car this old would be a good maintenance project.
This car was partially great engineering and partially just very luckily timed. They made a big jump going over to RWD, but it ended up working out- they got lucky they didn't have more issues. Also, they had just ironed out the last kinks to the Northstar V8 and offered a fairly decent AWD system. All of this luck and engineering changes came together at the perfect time and this car was produced. The bad part is that the V6 was pretty problematic for essentially the entire time that this last generation STS was produced.. Don't get a V6..
@Jay Mase I am thinking about buying the 2009 STS AWD V6 next week. What do you mean the V6 is problematic?
whats the different between the cts & sts again??
The body style the cts its a little smaller but the engine its the same the 3.6 v6 i would choose the v6 instead of the v8 since the v8 with the northstar engine its gonna give u alot of problems specially overheating
@@anyirodriguez1829 Is the 2009 STS V6 AWD reliable?
@BklynJayL yea, people who ACTUALLY WENT ON RUclips AND LOOKED FOR VIDEOS OF THIS CADILLAC, and people that actually might be buying it. They saw your comment and positive propped you because they think yea, yea my cadillacs better than e class, m5 , gs (which are all pieces of art) just because they cant afford e class or any other german sedan.
@Tj pantalones you couldn't beat yourself out of a wet paper bag.
@dslcobra The reliability ratings were below average for the E65 745/760....everyone knows that, however, this obviously did not hinder sales, as we have seen thus far. Now that you have been proven wrong multiple times, I suggest you research THOROUGHLY, so you don't make an ass of yourself anymore.
What is the diffrence beetween the sts than the cts
this car is full-sized? then why are the competitors mid-sized sedans? they got the facts wrong so ill do it: the cadillac STS main competitors include the lexus ls , acura rl , and bmw 7 series. there i fixed it.
Lol!! Rite!
It is definitely a mid-size, both by cargo volume and official government classification.
And now the ct6 is the sts of 2017 😊😊 i will be getting the ct6 next in 2 years after I get tired of my sts 😊😊
Have you had any problems with your STS? I am thinking about buying a 2009 STS AWD v6 with 93k miles. I need to make sure it is reliable.
2 words- Paulie Walnuts
It's amazing how much the style dated so quickly
Hello, I have a 2005 Cadillac and I'm told almost everyday how beautiful my car. I think its quite beautiful, too. It's black and has an optional polished mesh grill which is more timeless than the ugly plastic ones. I love the car and most people with one would agree.
👍🏽
Maybe because it didn't. STS is still the pinnacle of modern design, and it holds up fantastically well, over 15 years later.
Very fine automobile...but, Wow! Over 76k.??? That's is waaaay over priced! I Love GM. but, they're gonna have to lower that price about a good 15-20k.!
The chrome on these Cadillacs are metal. I find it "tacky" when I take a look at my mothers 2008 CRV which cost like $30,000 and find all of the "chrome" emblems are plastic. The ride is terrible and so is the noise in the cabin. Face it, American cars are coming back.
@djkasdjkasdjdjdj The Cadillac STS is alot bigger and is more spacious in the interior and trunk. The Cadillac CTS is more of a sporty car and alot smaller like for say Mercedes has the E-Class and the C-Class. The E-Class is like the STS it is more of a car for a Mom of two kids or you know just for someone who needs a bigger car. The C-Class is like the CTS for like a college kid or someone who wants a sporty smaller car. Hope this helps you.
it's a luxury car, wat did u expect -.-?
I agree. It's like saying, Germany is superior to everything! In that case..., Germany should be the strongest country in the world(Not)! Smh.. Not to sound biased but, I'd pick an American luxury vehicle over a German luxury vehicle, anyday! They're not really all of that different!
German cars aren't really any more or less luxury, sporty, or considering how awesome the CTS-V is, fast. That's just not true.
Great car but about $10,000 overpriced.
You can get comprable or better cars in the $34-$37k price range!
Another problem, all the Car Rental cos run these and *after two years* the Cadillac that you paid $45-$50k for is then going for $25k used!
This guys monotone voice makes me want to punch something in anger
I like this car but waaaay over priced.
@JimboSlice114 and you must be 13! Good for you pall. Open your eyes and make a notice on the floppy design of that thing!
LOLOLO senile old granpa can't see the car because his vision got blurry back in the 1700's.
Oragaaamy. Hahaha that guys pronunciation sucks,
please....
Why isn't this car dead yet? It is lonngggg overdue
I prefer the CTS.
the styling is so dated, in comparison to its competitors this car look like a tacky wanna be luxury car. ive noticed this with a lot of american cars, they have too much chrome that it just makes it look cheap. in my opinion american cars are second class cars, not really in the same league as japanese cars and europeans. just my oppinion, dont wish to offend!!
Let's not forget about Lincoln. ;-)
Compared to the 1992 STS this car looks like a sausage
Is this a joke? lmfao
Awesome car! I love the design, but the engines are still far too big. Eventualy Cadillac will sink if they don't adapt their cars to low consume Diesel engines or other alternatives. . Audi, for example, uses for the same class of car 1.9 or 2.5 turbo diesel engines that still run fast enough, but consuming around 6 litres on 100 kms in combined regime. I would sincerely buy an STS rather than a A6 or A4 or 5 Series BMW, but with a smaller diesel engine. I want a car for making miles not show
This car looks like it was designed by someone who only had a ruler
Britney's Spear a beautiful ruler 📐 that is.
cts is more sporty than the sts
Ethan Donker lol
In your dreams!
One of the ugliest cars in the history of forever!!
Your fucking ugly fuck
i like the cts better
