Got an rk87 for my husband and it got pretty decent after modding, although being north faced rgb. Got a rk100 pro for myself and it's really nice for a budget alluminum case.
I picked up an Akko 3084B (Jelly Pink Switch) in my opinion it sounds pretty good stock but there are definitely things you can do with it to improve the sound. Would love to see a review from you on it
All these boards have been serious considerations for me. But after learning about RK from an old Switch and Click video, I bought and fell in love with the RK84, my first and current keyboard. The north-facing LEDS bothered me, but buying XDA profile keycaps solved that for me. I also learned that they now come with foam in the case and between the PCB and plate. Decent stock, but tape modding, Milky Yellows and Durocks, and some silly little o-rings made this board the very best bang for my buck. I spent a total of around 150 for all my modding materials :)
I'm excited to see this even though you've already convinced me to get the Keychron V1 as my first ever keyboard. It'll get here hopefully Monday, Tuesday latest xD
For my 65% gang the akko 3068b or Yunzi Kc68(picked this up on Amazon prime day for only $78!). I picked the Yunzi cause there’s a lavender and mint color. It comes with some sound dampening foam, pre clipped and lubed stabs and your choice of gateron switches
It's surprising to me just how many people like to use tiny keyboards, such as 60% for example. I tried using a TKL and felt a little claustrophobic with the amount of keys I was working with. It took me forever to find a full-size custom keyboard I liked because manufacturers didn't seem to care about that part of the market, but Keychron has made full-size boards for all different budget levels now, I love them (using the K10 right now but I plan on getting the Q6 eventually when it's time for a new board)
I love how this video went up the *day after* I ordered my first set of parts for a custom keyboard. Lol. Decided on a GMMK Pro, Durock V2 stabs, and a mix of box whites and box jades for modifier keys.
I ended up going with the Feker IK75 for my first custom and love it. Wireless, 75%, RGB, BT/2.4/type-C and hot swap. Popped some Tecsee Carrot switches and MT3 keycaps and I'm a happy boy. Only downsides with the IK75 are, north facing RGB and it uses custom software for programming the keys. Neither one were deal breakers for me. Love the channel keep it up!
The keyboards I am considering are: -Marsback M1: 75% good looking hot-swappable keyboard. But there are not that many reviews of it. -Mojo 84: 75% version of the mojo65. Should be as good as, but haven’t seen any reviews on it yet. -Zoom65: Looks good. But doesn’t have function-row and hard to get. -Huntsman mini: silent 60% with optical switches. But doesn’t have arrow or function keys.
Akko def has some of the best out of the box builds rn. My channel has sound tests of the one I own. The Womier acrylic board is a really solid choice as well.
Hoping there is another version of this for all that has become available since this video. I think a lot of budget boards exist these days, and a lot of them are even hot swap and moddable, which means if we take the time and effort, we can make extreme budget options into boards that sound and feel like much more expensive ones. I've suggested it before and I know that there are several boards that are almost certainly similar, but I have a Tezarre TK61 that I got for $30ish. The downside to it is the optical switches, but man, I'd love to see you and some others maybe use it in one of your challenges to see what can be done with such a cheap option and some modding.
For all the Keychron love, I'm surprised the K8 Pro wasn't in the video. It's my go to recommendation for folks wanting an easy entry point to the hobby.
Wanting a numpad isn't weird lmao, it lets you enter numbers a whole lot faster. And when you don't need to enter numbers you can usually rebind all those keys to something else for when you're gaming or using a specific programme.
I would definitley reccomend the GMMK2 as well, its fairly cheap at $120 and sounds pretty decent and you can always mod it if you are not satisfied. The RGB on it is also amazing, so yeah its really good.
I don't like to tinker with things so for me the greater availability of pre-lubed switches on pre-built boards has been a game changer. I just bought the Nuphy 75 with pre-lubed night breeze (linear) switches. I'm definitely not an expert but I love it and it's only $130.
Prices have come down and options have come up on wireless/wired mechanical, customizable keyboards. Pretty rad that you can get a clean desktop and look like an architect or a keyboard influencer for under 200 bucks now.
Got my first ever hot swappable keyboard (I blame you and Switch and Click for getting me hooked lol), the RK84 and it is so so easy to work with. Would love your opinion on their keebs 😃 Plus they have good options from around $60. Thanks for the great videos!
Surprised that the Keychron K4 didn't show up in the numpad section, needing a smaller keyboard that still had a numpad was a big thing for me in trying to find one but the K4 was fairly cheap, has hotswap and rgb, sounds alright to me stock, and is a 96% from a good company. Definitely big recommend.

I've looking at the keychron q1 and q2, I like sound tests of gateron yellows and they're cheap and sold everywhere, and I'm deciding between getting nice budget pbt keycaps or spending an extra $15 for gmk clones
Just bought a Keychron K2 V2 with RGB aluminum frame, hot-swap, and Gateron G Pro Browns (it was the only config available). The Keychron V1 was unavailable. Might experiment with Glorious Pandas or something but ppl online claim the Gateron Browns and Yellows are okay. Currently using a cheap Amazon keyboard with Outemu Blues. Only problem is I use Linux and Keychron support seems kinda wonky.
Great recommendations Hipyo! I would love to see a review on either the mod 008 or the ACR Pro 75 in the future, as Akko's been killing it with their keyboards recently!
I'm way too happy with my AKKO 3068B. I will mod it eventually with even better keycaps that are translucent and some DIY beginner mods but even stock is just really really good, at least to a keyboard noob like me. Thanks for your content Hipyo
How do you know that the Zoom 65 is getting restocked? I've just started to get into the hobby and I like the zoom but can't find anything that would indicate that it's coming back anytime soon.
I just can't get enough of this keyboard! The switches on the Kaihl BOX Red are responsive on every press, and I can control my games and applications with ease.
I bought a Keychron K8 3 months ago and swapped out the Gat Reds with Gat Yellows (I like the extra spring weight). It's soooo much nicer than my old Razer Blackwidow with it's incredibly clicky keys. My ears thank me, but I do kinda miss the numpad
I just recently got my Glorious GMMK2 96% keyboard and have been loving it. I’m new to the keyboard game but in my noob opinion it’s feels good and sounds good enough at $120.
i bought a "klim shift 60%" i´m very impressed it has almost everthing for only 60 € hotswap , 2 set of caps, full rgb bt & 2,4 . definitely a good buy
Hi Hipyo, I don't see a lot of TKL videos for the keyboard enthusiast out there. I was wondering if you could maybe do a video on the most expensive ones and then maybe a budget one? I also want to know what the absolute best mounting style is for a keyboard. Thanks man.
I love wafer thin low profile membrane boards... Got a Keychron K1 and never really liked it - I realized what I want isn't thin, it's uniform! So I did my homework (thanks for your part in it!) and bought 2 Epomaker/Skyloong GK108s - one for home, one for work. I grew up with full-full keyboards and these are such a nice way to get into the hobby! Good stock stab lube, 5-pin ready, north LEDs. You can program 3 remaps into the firmware and 5 RGB modes of your choice, then toss out the driver and utility and they'll just keep it onboard. They're heavy and solid, with a good metal mount plate (always white.) I hear it's a fixer upper for connoisseurs but I already love it - I'll grow into modding it in a bit. Black home board is stock Gazzew Bobagums with YMD PBT carbon ZDA caps - looks sharp, feels great and it's whisper quiet! White work board is Akko Rose Reds soon to be lubed in 205g0/105 and a YMD PBT 9009 XDA set... Yeah, I've been at it for about a month now so obviously I'm gonna be hooked lol
I just got into mechanical keyboards a few months ago and sprung for the Redragon Draconic K530 Pro followed by the Royal Kludged RK98. Thanks to the likes of this and the deluge of similar videos I've watched, I recently purchased a Keychron V1 which I'll mod with some foam, I'll lube the stabilizers, and bought some Akko CS lubed red switches in Matcha (Macha?) Green with black, Razer Phantom keycaps. I look forward to putting it together next weekend. While new to the hobby, the stock sound of the RK98 was surprisingly good, although keep in mind my newness to the hobby. Maybe Hipyo will review it.
4:09 I personally am a German and French major, so I literally *need* the numpad to type special characters at any reasonable speed It's not always a preference thing, there are several genuine uses Not weird Based, in fact
I'm not concerned about the sound as much as the actual feel. I find that with my current keyboard, which is a Stock RK61, it just feels uncomfortable. It is a bit noisy so I would probably prefer something quieter, but the main issue is that the keys themselves just feel too big on my fingers. I wish there was something that I could find that isn't a 60% keyboard, but maybe has smaller caps.
Been looking at ducky keyboards myself, mainly because they actually offer them in AZERTY aswell (something I feel more brands should pick up on). Just wondering why ducky isn't in the list?
Well you win, internet. This video finally got me to pull the trigger and ditch that Logitech POS I've been using and upgrade. My Keychron C2 just came and it feels so, so good. Thanks.
I am getting tecsee carrot switches, the ep68 barebones kit by epomaker, and some nice looking but simple pbt keycaps. Totals just over $150 for EXACTLY what I want long term I’m a gamer and not necessarily an enthusiast but I already know I LOVE tecsee carrots, the board is the size I like, no compatibility issues, and I can tape mod with electrical tape if needed but I doubt I'll need to, it's wireless with a dongle, and fits everything I need and want. Highly recommend

I highly recommend (if you like the available options) Keychrons keycap sets. I bought a set when I bought my Q2 and they're lovely.
For numpad boards check out akko's 3098B
Great video, love the comedy! Excellent information!
Great recommendations Hipyo! I would love to see a review on either the mod 008 or the ACR Pro 75 in the future, as Akko's been killing it with their keyboards recently!
Yes. That last one sounded so nice.
I think I'll go with the EP84 Triple Modes. It should be pretty easy to mod and make it thoccier !
I just can't get enough of this keyboard! The switches on the Kaihl BOX Red are responsive on every press, and I can control my games and applications with ease.
Akko review when?
Its almost like creators are trying to avoid it
It's like people are treating north-facing keyboards like lepers. It's not that big a deal, and future versions are going to be south-facing anyway.
Im not super into keyboards, just wanted some suggestions. But I’m subbing because you’re funny asf
I see every video touting a "budget" $100 keyboard the same as your $250 "budget" keyboard from last year lmao
Team Numpad, lets go! Your content has helped me get started buying my first custom. Thanks.
I left a like and a comment for how good that was.
Nice video. Thanks!
Didn't expect to laugh out lout about a keyboard video. Great video👍
Dude. Yes. Thank you for this video. I'm currently typing on my MX Brown K70 v1 ... I am ready for the "thock" instead of the LOUD.
thank you for saying sane things on the interwebs ❤️
i am honored to say i own hipyos gamakay that he built last year and it sounds amazing
Make that 8 of us out here 😅
Appreciate the excellent keyboard review. Starting to explore keyboards. With num pads 😆
I just recently got my Glorious GMMK2 96% keyboard and have been loving it. I’m new to the keyboard game but in my noob opinion it’s feels good and sounds good enough at $120.
i bought a "klim shift 60%" i´m very impressed it has almost everthing for only 60 € hotswap , 2 set of caps, full rgb bt & 2,4 . definitely a good buy
love it bro, your style is my favorite in the keyboard community! (You're actually tied with Betty from switch and click) Keep it up
I'm gonna repeatedly click the link in the description just to support Hipyo. Job well done, I hope this helps!
I just want more budget keyboards for 96% or full numpad 😭 trying to get some for work
the keychron v1 is just amazing
Hi Hipyo, I don't see a lot of TKL videos for the keyboard enthusiast out there. I was wondering if you could maybe do a video on the most expensive ones and then maybe a budget one?
I also want to know what the absolute best mounting style is for a keyboard. Thanks man.
preference
Omg I watched this video at the perfect time because I was sad I missed the Zoom65 preorder but I'll keep an eye on them again!
Great video, as someone who already is in this hobby it's still quite helpful
This video inspired me so much, thanks Hipyo!
4:09 I personally am a German and French major, so I literally *need* the numpad to type special characters at any reasonable speed
It's not always a preference thing, there are several genuine uses
Not weird
Based, in fact
I type lots of numbers in lots of cells in excel. Having all numbers available in a compact package us super useful for that.
I got the Keychron V1 and lovin' it!
I love how your voice legit sounds like the voice from OverSimplified haha, good vid!
This was awesome! Thanks for making a keyboard newb at home. Loved the saucy fun of it too. Peace
Been looking at ducky keyboards myself, mainly because they actually offer them in AZERTY aswell (something I feel more brands should pick up on). Just wondering why ducky isn't in the list?
from my understanding theyre very overpriced and not great quality
Well you win, internet. This video finally got me to pull the trigger and ditch that Logitech POS I've been using and upgrade. My Keychron C2 just came and it feels so, so good. Thanks.
Love your videos man, best keeb content created by farrrrrr.
I love that the Eyooso made it in! I have a z88, its super Janky, but i love it dearly.
Highly recommend
very helpful video, ended up going with the Keychron V1 with your link!
sadly keychron v1 is out of stock I was going to get the brown switches but good amazing video
I think Akko is a good budget for its price. You get Akko switches and keycaps which are actually pretty good on their own.
I really like the womier but i dont know about the keycaps. and i was wondering were you got / made. your keycaps? also i was wondering the best switch type
nothing beats the hipyo themed qk65. ULTIMATE THOCC
Great vid and thanks for the overview!
Funny video and informative. You've earned a like and subscriber.
The transformation in that last 20 buck board was amazing
Can you please make a video like this for midrange keyboard? Like, so you buy one of these and you get into the hobby and decide you want to upgrade? What are your choices from these keyboards to a little more premium?
Love you Hippyo!
