hi betty! you were a great help with my first build :') thank u
The best part of building a keeb is finally finishing it and then realizing it's just a keyboard.
Literally bro
Damn I felt that on a personal level lmao
"Why the fuck did I waste ten hours on this"
Too real lmfao. I guess its reaaaally worth it if you type loads like if you work at anoffice and a custom keeb might just make ur work days more enjoyable

Featuring Linus tech tips
@@qyusiahaan9302 Seriously yes
yes
Yes but it’s with Linus hipyo and Josie
The fact that she used all of her lifelines shows that there's still a ton of progress to go in making custom keyboards more accessible.
a lot of it could be fixed with less shitty stock stabs and better factory lubing
I don't think you can ever make it actually accessible - custom keyboards have no business being easily available for everyone, you have to put in too much work, so it'll be always niche like customizing linux with some tiling WM's or making a sophisticated neovim config
@@kurushimee | that’s the problem, there’s so much work and so many workarounds you need. if it was more streamlined it would be more accessible
@@dxmirr and also that it's pretty damn expensive yeahh
@@kurushimee Keychron Q2, Keychron Q3 has made it accessible for entry level keyboard enthusiasts to join the hobby. For example, the Keychron Q3 is 2kg CNC aluminium base plate, foam, and Gateron v2 brown switches (factory lubed). Minor mods like Tape Modding + o-rings, can make the keyboard really smooth and silent, or juts a Tape mod makes the keys more thock. Changing the switches to say either a Gateron Yellow or Ink blacks + better doubleshot keycaps would make the sound have a deeper thock*.
I think we can all agree that the fact that she arrived to "less is more" is a complete win for the community lol
She learned the key to lubing
Yea lol

yep it sounds amazing im just chilling with my keyboard too afraid to mod so i guess blue switches for life
I switched keebs and got a reddragon k617 fizz it's a decent keeb with outemou red switches
True it sounds 5x better then my 50$ keyboard
it sounds overlubed
@@PHILLYMEDIC69that’s what I was gunna say couldn’t tell too much tho
tbh my biggest takeaway from this was that i am absolutely not ready to build a keyboard
LRKGR literally

@@headoverheels88 whats the point of having a custom keyboard if you're not gonna build it yourself
@@kjl3080 If I had to guess, it'd be owning a custom keyboard.
As a techy, its refreshing to see someone make decisions like this (CUZ ITS YELLOW WOOOOOO).. she'll be so much more happy with the result.
PSA for beginner builders: If you have a hot swap board, when you put on the switches, make sure you support the back of the socket when putting on the switches because it’s possible to pop off the hot swap socket if you don’t. Trust me it’s not fun trying to fix a popped socket especially if the pad comes off. It doesn’t happen often, but better safe than sorry I always say
This basically is what happened to me on my new board. A socket popped out. Good thing I was able to fix it.
How to support it?
@@RohanSingh-ng6zc before putting the board together, pop in the switches and when you do support the back of the socket with your finger.
@@RohanSingh-ng6zc or use the foam that came with the board or a deskmat.
Thanks
This was an absolutely great video. And I apologize cus my switch reviews are overwhelming sometimes, really put into perspective that the general majority have no idea what I’m saying LOL. Great job hipyo!
We love u shoobs
Shoobs your tactile video led me to my favorite switch of all time the Pewters!
Yeah, I legit think you’re speaking in klingon whenever you make a switch review or a keyboard video. Please making one understandable for begginners dude.

Shoobs noobs
i love how she picked some of the best linear switches by "i like milk and yellow"
Why is it the best? I am new to keyboard builds and kinda want to change mine, a sad redragon thingy
@@Hanabe_Fascartet zealpc clickies tactile mode. Aand down each metal leg or get a ciy tester. I'd suggest the later. It's very nice and actually tactile.
@@gearsgamer7115 I don't understand a thing that you write, but I got what is yellow switch
@@Hanabe_Fascart bro I'm saying to get the tactile zealpc clickies if you want a further upgrade. They are a 3 in 1. Also get a ciy tester keyboard kit. A 3 in 1 means their tactile, clicky, and linear depending on a little leaf in the switch.
@@Hanabe_Fascartjust do the tape mod and pe foam mod and replace the switches and keycaps or u can get a new one. There is no best switch imo cus everyone has their own preferences but i suggest you check out akko's stuff, they're really great.

I’m not gonna lie I agree with the “The best part of building keyboards is the friends we made along the way” I’ve had a great time talking with people and learning in discord severs. I think it’s a great experience to be new to something and have people who don’t know just help you because you have a common interest. Very wise Hipyo very wise.

Is the community nice? I've done a lot of self taught because I'm afraid the community is or can be toxic. But hearing this maybe I'll reach out
@@saras.8403 Depends where you snoop, on forums like keebtalk for example, people can be really nice and encouraging. But maybe on some discord servers or reddit it might be really toxic. I’d like to personally thank hipyo for helping me select all the pieces for my board as well as directing me on lubing techniques. Great video. :)
Happy to help!
I wanted to build my own keyboard for a long time, so finally went on RUclips to see the process.
I can confidently say I no longer want to build my own keyboard. Thanks for the perspective!
I’ve never built one in my life and watching her gave me so much inspiration to try and do it
Still did better than me compared to the first time I built a custom keyboard. I ended up with a really scuffed ID80 and a toxic addiction that has taken thousands of dollars away from my wallet, and wasted countless hours of my life...

Tuff
Come on man, you can't say wasted, if you learned something new and had fun doing it.
I just finished my first build yesterday and it turned out great - I wish I had watched this first!! I went through almost the EXACT same research pipeline, had similar issues (stabilizers are so hard!!!), and watched the same videos for guidance. I love Josie's keycaps, and may need to get those for myself... I want a Josie builds a PC video!!! She needs a yellow and white themed build! I'd watch a custom sleeved cable video too - both for her keeb and her pc!
Josie 100% has the vibes of someone whose favorite color is yellow. invincible
This video was super entertaining, Josie's commentary just had me smiling the whole time, she got a LOT out of her second lifeline, and the keyboard sounds...honestly really good. She did great! Hope you and Josie do more vids like this -- if she's willing, because it's a ton of work!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Always love outsider perspective into enthusiast fields. I definitely feel her struggle with lubing.
Huge props to Josie for doing all this work and I hope she enjoys the keeb!
Josie did a great job and the board actually sounds amazing. Hopefully it grows on her and she gets into the hobby!
When I was seaching for a keyboard and how to mod/lub was a totally nightmare for me, it was so much information that I had to keep in mind while buying the right keys, board and keycaps. I totally relate to her! I need more videos like this, it was fun to watch
Hearing the sound test on the keyboard she made brought a smile to my face. It sounded super good for someone who never built a board before and did an excellent job. She should be proud of herself.
Josie is absolutely adorable and a perfect fit for the Hipyo style of videos. Great job you two!!!
Josie must be protected at all costs. She was such a delight to watch!
I've never watched Hipyo's videos but if you're friends with someone like Josie I completely trust you.

We need more videos with Josie. Her personality and attitude toward the build were fantastic.
Yeah, the kind of noob who's REALLY good on camera
I definitely relate to Jose in this scenario, I was so confused and had such info overload when I first tried getting into the hobby
I like that she is actually smart and googles info and does research despite not knowing much about keyboards. Most of these "beginner" videos involve someone who seemingly never has googled a question. It is seriously how I have learned every part of any hobby or skill and people think I am smart or something. Just google, people! Read forums, post on forums/reddit, watch instructional videos. Any project that I have 0 experience in I still accomplish with the internet.
She did a great job. Sounds nice!
I'm very impressed. If I was thrown fresh into this hobby nowadays I'd have gone through MANY fuck-ups.
What she ended up with was a really clean looking and great sounding keyboard.
It's also kind of funny how she ended up at the best bang for buck switches solely due to her liking the color yellow.
Building this exact keyboard for myself as MY first keyboard because I loved it so much. Can't wait to start using it!
Good job! I just finished building my first custom keyboard and I actually did a bunch of research for months before even starting to purchase parts and equipments. For Josie to do that all in a short period of time is really impressive to me. Also, it turned out really great too! Sounds awesome!
*drops keycap box*
"I f'ed up all my keycaps!"
Most relatable sadness
Because no one wants a keyboard with just F's!
It's kinda weird how much this video has helped me today because I had a lot of trouble with family and had headache for hours and hours, but after watching this video (and while watching this video) I felt great. It just had some sort of cozy vibe, thank you for that!
I never even knew this was a thing until I decided to buy a prebuilt mechanical keyboard. I didn't know about switch colors, keycap materials, stabilizers, nada. But just for the sake of deciding which keyboard to get I did a bunch of youtube research which I guess is how this video ended up in my recommended section.
Very cool, and even though I don't think I would build one from scratch just yet I can see myself tinkering with and customizing the one I just ordered.
I'm just getting into keyboard building for the first time today and want to treat myself with my first build for Christmas, thank you for the video!
Would you ever make a buyers guide/tutorial on how to build a mechanical keyboard?
Glad she had medium fun building her first board! Thanks for the shoutout 🥰
It's so great to watch someone learn all of that stuff by themselves, and just join the rest of us in mechanical keyboard madness
I really enjoyed this video being a real and authentic video on someone who has very limited experience and understanding of the hobby and what goes into it. I think it is also a good self-esteem builder for those who may be nervous on building there own keyboards and doing the process. So, cool Idea for a video and thanks to you you and Josie
this is an absolutely great beginners build and honestly except for some slight scratch on some keys i really like the sound. kudos josie!
Great job for your first build Josie! But you literally opened a doorway of the wonderful world of Keebs ❤️ enjoy the journey! 😁
it's 2023 and I wonder if Josie ever got a computer. I also dig the keycaps chosen here, such pleasing rounded corners.
Josie is such a cool person, rolling with the punches and eventually made it to the end!
great video!
i also just finished building my first custom board today and its such a huge difference to every other keyboard i had before!
also the building process is so much fun!
for anyone interested its a:
KBDFans Tofu 60% E-Yellow (Foam between case and pcb)
HS60 Hotswap PCB (V3)
MBUK Steel Plate
GMK Screw in Stabilisers clipped, sanded to get a perfect flat surface and lubed with Krytox 205g0
Moyu Queen Switches filmed and lubed with Krytox 205g0
HK Gaming PBT Keycaps Bee (same as Josie got for her board - good choice!!!! :D)
and tomorrow ill make a diy coiled usb-c cable with a orange sleeve so that it fits the case and the keycaps
Keep it up!
The board is really solid :)
Nice keycaps, nice sound, just nice overall
Just got into the mechanical keyboard hobby recently and have already done a fair amount of research on all components that go into it. I can't imagine how much pressure Josie felt to do this on her own, but it is very reassuring for prospecting keebs to see this kind of content and understand that even people who have no prior experience building keyboards can do it with enough time spent learning and seeking help when needed! Great video.
14:56 *Josie gets really confused for no reason*
*I start laughing really hard for no reason*
Legit lost it laughing at this part. SO relatable. Brain fart.
this is 100 times better than my first build. josie really did a great job
this i so entertaining as someone who knows nothing about keyboards but watches keyboard vids
I think I could watch an entire series with Josie. She has a fun personality, and is very capable for a novice. I really enjoyed watching, as I'm also a novice to this hobby.
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!!!! thank you it was very interesting seeing someone else struggle. This was me all night trying to figure it out.. hahaha!
This was actually kind of helpful, im getting a pc soon, and now i know what all the “mechanicall” and “mambrane” and other terms mean. Thanks!
I love this video! Josie is an absolute mood I just bought some green keycaps and I haven't even got a board yet! I've been struggling with research aswell trying to find out what switches are quiet hahaha I dread the lubing stage :>
Hipyo it’s been a while since I have seen your videos, but last time I saw u u had 4.3k subs!!! Congrats on the huge growth keep up the good work!
I actually really dig the way it sounds. Total butter. Great job Josie.
SHES SO FUN TO WATCH she needs a YT channel pls pls pls
LOL, watching the Shoobs video was a bad idea. Imagine being a newcomer and having the term "JWK Linears" thrown at you xD.
Thank you so much Josie 🙏 a REAL build with real struggles 🥰
I have to say I'm a fan of that keycap set also. Board looks and sounds great!
Hecking Keycaps
Thank god she bought the Gateron Milky Yellows, the keyboard looks and sound amazing I love the sound of the switches they ended up sounding good, can't wait to get them too. The video was nice. Hecking Keycaps
Hi!!! I'm also a beginner. What is it with gateron milky yellows vs cherry mx?
@@itsraeshin mx are scrachy, yellows sound decent lubed

this my favorite hipyo vid. ive watched it like 3 times and "i goofed it up real bad you guys" never gets old
Love the sound test and how it came out! I haven't tried assembling one.
This was fun to watch. Very much reminds me of my time entering the hobby, when everything was so simple. It started with amazon keycaps....
Hope she enjoys her board!
5:35 "so it's been a couple weeks, and everything's finally arrived" ... You mean you didn't have to wait half a year for everything? I wish I could do that
Group buy free build
I used to have a coworker that makes custom keyboards and a friend that was super into switches. I never really understood what either of them talked about so watching her be confused about it all just reminded me of my own confusion when they talked. I've never made my own keyboard and idk if I ever will (though as time consuming as it is, it seems like a cool and fun project) it was super neat seeing this from her perspective.
The end product sounds pretty incredible, especially for a beginner board and having no idea what you’re doing. Great job!
And on that day god said "less is more", people lived by those words and everyone had well lubed switches
The bit I struggled with most building my first keeb (like a month ago lol) was flashing the firmware to get it to work in via, I had to completely dissassemble my freshly made board in order to plug in the nekked PCB and hit the reset switch
I'm really impressed. She bought the right things and did the right stuff.. mostly lol. Great job!
I'm buying my first mechanical keyboard (not making my own, though it does have hot swapping if i wanna change the switches) and BOY do I relate to Josie in this. The information overload is nuts.
The more I watch these videos, the more I'm afraid that I'm going to eventually build my own keyboard and hate myself for getting into such an expensive and time consuming hobby.
Now I’m curious what exactly the keyboard enthusiasts building loads of keyboards a year do with em. Selling them seems like the most reasonable option but idk how big the market is for that. RUclipsrs are obviously fine they should be making it back and then some. Just a hard ass hobby to get into
Can u do these type of videos with beginners a lot cuz its really entertaining
That sounds so perfect, banger vid
This video has helped me build my first keyboard ever so thank you!!

this was amazing, funny, informative, and a very pleasant video to watch. As a fellow noob in these foreign lands I thank you for the video. lesss gooo
