RIchard Schiff maybe a very good actor, but I never liked the character of Toby. Too much of an antagonist for my taste. And he smokes a lot of cigars on the show, which I despise.
@@emperorninja1965 The funny thing is that I am a diehard conservative and I love the show. Sometimes you can set you biases aside and enjoy something. Sure, it might have a liberal slant (I wouldn’t say leftist, at least in the Sorkin seasons), but they did choose to do a democratic administration. Also, the way some republicans are portrayed, like Ainsley Hayes and Joe Quincy, is very even with the main members of the west wing, and they often steal the show when they are on screen. Long story short, I disagree with you as to why this show is garbage. To each their own I guess
Dukakis VS Bush Senior. Dukakis was asked the same question. Toby gives the answer Dukakis should have given, Bartlett gave a run down of every answer Dukakis gave. The problem with Dukakis’ answer wasn’t that it wasn’t well prepared or presented, but that it was too well prepared and presented. He sounded cold and dispassionate in the face of a question that essentially boiled down to: ‘How would you react if the worst thing possible happened to your family?’
Don't forget when Toby pranked Josh by hiring an acting troupe and when they all pranked CJ by "resigning" Pretty sure the only one no one dared prank was Leo or the President.
I loved Loved Loveeeeee this scene. I wish we had Jed Bartlet president of the USA, with people like Sam, toby, CJ leo and Josh they would make America great again. My 2nd favorite is Butter Ball hotline, and coming in 3rd is Charlie's Taxes
Bartlet was always against the missile shield. In fact, he was making fun of Leo for being *for* it, comparing him to Charlie Brown. I'm sure Leo's still in favor of it, but he's keeping his mouth shut in this scene so they can prank Toby.
Sorkin was clearly working out some personal frustrations when he wrote this episode. Not only is he taking a shot at Dukakis for similarly stumbling through his answer on capital punishment, but those "ten words" that Josh keeps coming up with during the episode are answers/slogans that Republicans (including Bush Sr.) keep giving in debates. You really get the feeling that, back in 1992, Sorkin said to himself "Well, 'A Few Good Men' is doing pretty good, so now it's time for me to fix what's wrong with politics in this country, starting with that disastrous debate between Bush and Dukakis."
Why is it a good thing that fathers (or family members in general) don't have legal rights when their children are murdered? I do not understand that. When someone is convicted of a crime it does not have to be about rehabilitation or punishment, it should be about both. Punishment first, rehabilitation second. A criminal that is truly repentant and deserving of a second chance would not object to the punishment for their crime.
Are you suggesting that we should have a legal system in which the family members of murder victims are permitted to carry out revenge killings? Where's the due process? What if they kill the wrong person? Do you think that a person whose loved one was just killed will be in a state of mind to carefully weigh the evidence and make sure they got the right person?
My God, how good is Richard Schiff? Every time Toby Ziegler throws one of his mini tantrums, it makes my whole day.
It gets louder and louDER AND LOUDER

How could you not include the capper to the scene?
*Toby:* _(quietly confident)_ "He's ready."
Every video I see of this scene cuts that out
This series was leftist propaganda.
YES!!!
@sparkyinbath Nah you bore off lol
@sparkyinbath Flattery will get you nowhere with me, honey.
It’s the Dukakis debate question.
No "He's ready" line?? That was the best part!!

THIS is the scene that turned Toby into Odin for GOWR🤣😂
Poor, POOR Toby. He gets Josh back latter on election day!!!
"Crisis Of Confidence" Jimmy Carter 39th President, he was quoting right??
Odd thing about that is why they bet against the President. Surely they knew that Tony would go off too!!

When did this happen!?!? I've wanted to watch The West Wing every day since it went off the air and especially during election season.

In case you haven't found it yet: season 4, episode 6 ("Game On"). Opening scene. Excellent episode.

So, Lord Marbury finally convinced the president about missile defence, and Leo doesn’t have a problem with it? When did that happen?
Also, I guess the D.C. mayor didn’t change the president’s mind about vouchers.
