I'm using a Nikon D3200 camera. I've had it for several years. I need to learn how to use the manual features.I've used the auto feature mostly. I make pre-recorded art videos and want to do lives. Your tutorials are really helpful!

This video is filled with great advice. I like how you counter the common belief that there is a universal "best" camera. Thinking about your needs and budget, and also considering older models will help you find the best camera for *you,* and save you a lot of time and money in the process.
Thank you. This is by far THE BEST video for beginners and intermediate users on RUclips. Great suggestions regarding what to look for and how to negotiate this otherwise confusing subject.
Hi looking for advice on a camera, here's my list I hope someone in the comments can help Budget - upto $1000 Main use - at home RUclips videos sitting down Secondary use - Vlogging capabilities for travel Capabilities - 4k Features - attach microphone for better audio (I own a yeti usb mic, also XLR and quarter inch mics) willing to buy another mic for camera Bonus - interchangeable lenses optional (perhaps I'll visit the mountains and take nature shots) Current camera - iPhone 12 Pro and recently gave away Sony a5000 which I had since 2015 Looking for 2-3 options to research before purchasing. Thanks in advance
I’ve been using my phone, I have the iPhone 13 promax, it’s good for the start but when I’m making videos the zoom in sucks, I’ve been looking for cameras that could handle shakiness, autofocus, and I can put in a mic if needed, I’m glad I can across your video! Really great advice!
Right Now, I am using a Samsung A03 phone to record my videos which is low quality. I am trying to upgrade for a new camera or a new phone to make my video quality even better than before. Thank You for the advice Justin Brown!
Only big thing phones lack for video is the dept of field effect. If you don't need it or don't feel it would improve your videos then there's no need for a "real" camera... unless you want to go more artistic and also do photography, then cameras truly have no match
Being a musician, audio is important to me for my channel. Even more so than video. I have used an iPhone in the past with external mics, but more recently I have used a Zoom Zoom Q8n-4K camera. Still learning about it, but I like the fact that it has 2 XLR mic inputs so I can use my higher quality mics.
I have a channel with 6.5k subscribers. I use an iPhone 12 Pro Max with an external mic. But the phone seems to randomly choose to record in mono vs stereo. THERE SEEMS TO BE NO RHYME OR REASON TO IT! I’m pretty sure it has something to do with Apple’s dongle & software but I can’t figure it out. Anyone else have this issue??
Love that you broke everything down where it’s easy to understand! In within only 10 minutes, I am very beginner . I’m new At learning to understand cameras , I needed it simplified and you did that ! Can’t wait to watch more content
I use several cameras. I use the Z6ii, Gopro Hero 9 and 11 black, Insta360 Go 2 and X3. Never use my phone. Tends to ring when I try to record on it. I like to record when on the go, so the ones I can put in my pocket are best.
I am using my phones camera (samsung f23) but im taking my videos on snapchat. What i love abt it is i use a snapchat filter which covers my acne, makes my video look bright and appealing but also natural at the same time
I'm using the sony ZV-E10 with kit lens (will buy the famous Sigma 16mm 1.4 soon). For audio the Rode Videomic Go 2, excellent sound. And for lightning the Neewer 660
I currently use the Lumix G7 for $497; I'd say it's a great basic camera, doesn't have the best focus but it has great image quality and it's easy to use.
Fujifilm X-H1 , good color and low light. Excellent lenses. Works good for livestreaming and video, excellent for photos. Cons: 20min video limit in 1080p 15mon in 4k, only does 4k30 but 1080p looks as good as iphone 4k.
Hello im gonna commet here my notes and things i need for my cameras ( if you can recommend something for me it would be really helpful 🙏🏻) -A portable and small one for sports ( go pro would be perfect i think) - a small not so complicated one for photography ( an old one for save money and start in this photography world ) - i need one for blogging - and for landscaping shooting This lasts 2 ones needs i dont know if i need 2 diferents cameras or one
Love all your videos! I learned so much! I am using a Canon T7. Very easy to use, but I don't like the 12 minute auto stop. Makes filming Drum covers a pain cause I have to keep checking if it's recording.
Good video. So far, I've made 10 videos. Not one has needed a camera. I'm doing a live video on a dead Facebook account, downloading them, and then reloading them to RUclips. I am, however, looking down the road to when I may evolve into doing tutorials or DIY videos. Thank you.
I bought a Canon EOS Rebel T6 years ago and I absolutely love it. The problem I'm having is the video syncing with the sound (I use a Rodecaster Pro and a Rode Podmic). The video is nice and crisp (although I admit that I need to fix my lighting), but for whatever reason, the sound is just ever-so-slightly off.
I'm using my trusty Canon M50 Mk1 with a Blue Yetti for the voice overs. I use a stock kit lens too and this is perfect for my art tutorials. Great video Justin 😃😃
@@livinlifewithla7142 Yes, I use a Blue Yeti microphone. I usually film my painting tutorials and do a rough edit to get the basic timeline. Then I rewatch and add my voice over making small edits as I go. This way I can see if parts of my video are too long or drag. Finally I go back over the video adding captions, B roll and any other elements. 😎😎 N.B. - I see you have yet to upload video. So, hold off making an investment in a microphone. Just use your phone or what ever and a cheap plug in wireless mic ( loads on amazon) or a basic wired lavalier mic. Get yourself started and making videos first. I made my first 20 video this way and learned so much. Then slowly improve your kit. Good luck with the channel 😃😃
Hey Justin! I use the Sony ZV-1 and I love it! I spent a fair while researching and the ZV-1, for me and my needs, was just right. Not having a decent phone that I could use and being quite limited on budget, it ticked all the necessary boxes. It’s all too easy to get carried away as you say and the temptation is always there to go better and blow the budget but you need to keep reminding yourself to assess your choice against your needs and not necessarily your wants. I also back up your point that there is no perfect camera and analysis paralysis is very real when trying to chose a new camera! Thanks for this video! 🙏
Exactly why i need this instructional...not clue. I live in foreign country everyday occurrences that once freak me out ,i can't be bothered with....but to the newcomer would be interesting /entertaining ....so why not ?and learn some new skills ? just the other day a very deadly snake pass by...would have been YT gold !
I just got a Sony ZV-1F and it's a real step up from my iPhone SE. Unfortunately, using my RODE Wireless GO I encountered some interference when using it for the first time. I ran the audio through Adobe Speech Enhance and it made the audio bearable but not ideal. I'll need to troubleshoot before I sit down and film again.
*Very helpful video Justin, I have a Question can you help me pick a camera or camcorder that has the following features, flip up screen, slow motion mode, & good built in microphone, long battery life, Good Autofocus, Cinematic mode, 4k or above, Good for recording Outdoors. Thank you before hand.* 👏💯
I have always believed in the "right tool for the job" and I somehow do not get the fascination of using a DSLR for any type of motion picture production. 15 or so years ago I used a custom built Sony VX2000 - big, heavy but with great capability. Now I use a Panasonic HC-V777 camcorder, most times with a small Asian-made teleprompter, that holds my cell phone. As I usually film alone, I have also bought 3 older, used GoPro 4 units with far too many accessories for less than € 200. I use them on tripods surrounding the object / person as neccessary, it gives the illusion of more pepole at work, filming. 😁 There is an external mike on the Panasonic and a remote lavalier feeds the camcorder as needed. LED light panels help to put the light where it's needed. When in motion, I use a selfie stick, a gimble or even the GoPros in an appropriate housing to also pickup audio. A small Mavic drone adds overhead motion where so desired (although I am still an apprentice in drone operation). For stills I do have my trusty Nikon D5000. Camcorder, GoPros or Tripods - I buy the stuff used, if possible. And I fully agree, that one does NOT need the latest, greatest equipment to get decent results.
Just started… using iPhone 12 lol … just need an average camera for road trips, traveling to other countries and such. Something with good audio, just everything average pretty much… I know absolutely zero about cameras I just know that I want to start filming
I am using a Sony Cyber Shot point and shoot camera and I the thing I like about it is that I own it. I am trying to shoot video for my martial arts school so I need something that takes better action shots and has a better mic for lecturing. I also want to be able to shoot decent still shots for things like the website, thumbnails, and one or two other things.
I was using a Pixel 6 and the. My wife gifted me a Sony camcorder. I found the flip out screen is an exceptionally useful feature. Sadly, the Pixel image was better. But I'm not going back because of the flip screen.
Heyo! I've got $20,000 for a budget and I'm looking to upgrade my studio. We've used three Sony A6100 camera's so far (with an Atem Mini-pro into Vmix software to record). I'd like to get three camera's for a set production (we're seated for a majority of this, no action necessary, think "The Daily Show" with less zooming in and out). Which camera's would you recommend? Or what resources would you recommend for me to find the answer? I'm certainly partial to BlackMagicDesign's line of products, but even there I'm unclear. Ideally these camera's will be able to facilitate live-streaming at studio quality. Love your videos, thank you!
Hi, I need a camera that can film overhead footage of craft demos, close up. Can you advise what specs the camera needs to have? As a first buy I don’t want to pay over £450 ish. As a camera newbie it’s mind boggling! Any advise would be great. Thanks
I don’t necessarily have a recommendation but one thing I discovered with using my DSLR that I bought for print photography was that turning the autofocus off is a must. The camera would keep focusing on my hands and blur the project I was working on. Run a test before you film a whole demo to make sure yours does what you like.
I'm currently using my iPhone 14 Pro Max and it's honestly pretty decent. However, I would like to have a dedicated cam. I'm creating TechTuber content. So, not much movement.
I'm using a mid range smartphone lol. Samsung galaxy a54. I'm pretty happy with the quality. But always looking to improve. I love being able to pause the recording as I go, makes "editing" simple. Then I can upload straight to YT on the app with no hassle. Are there any actual cameras that can do similar things (pause recordings as you go?) Thanks!
I am almost a year in with my RUclips channel. I am using my iPhone 14 Pro. Works good but not easy to get data from phone to computer. My computer is over 10 years old. Just ordered a new computer though. Was looking at getting the GoPro 9. I have a train channel so all filming is in garage. Low light. Small layout so not moved around a lot. Any thoughts?
I'm absolutely delighted to have stumbled upon your marvelous video, which has effortlessly satisfied my curiosity regarding the ideal camera. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and expertise! 📸😊
I need a good camera for making prank videos, I need a camera to zoom enough so I can shoot videos without people noticing. And price should be reasonable, What type do you recommend please?
Nice talking, thank you ! You did't mentions 360 cameras, I using very actively Insta360 ONE RS... Recently decide and push button and got Sony ZV-E10, soon will add 15mm 1,4 lens. AND very important, IF you plans to use this upscale cameras, then MUST to invest in Gimbal to get stable footage ! Also ordered Crane M3 (on sale in US now). Aghhhhh...Life is Good!
G'day Justin love your work mate. I've been using multiple Samsung S8 and S10 mobile phones for my channel since I started a couple years ago. They've been great but I really need to step it up a bit. They can be very stuttery at times. Problem is they can fall occasionally. So I don't want to spend a truck load on a camera that I could possibly destroy. So I was thinking about trying a Dji Action 3 and seeing how it goes. I shoot diy videos both inside and outside so am not sure how it will work out in low light. Otherwise something small with a decent flippy screen would be nice. Doesn't need to be 4k. Any suggestions would be appreciated mate. Cheers 👍
I would really appreciate if you could help me buy my very first camera. In the near future, I'm planning of making RUclips videos (cooking + mukbang/eating ASMR). I want to buy a good camera to record my videos and I was thinking since I'm going to buy a camera, why not learn photography as well. So the camera that I want to buy is good for recording quality videos and also good for quality photos and good for beginners. Small info: I live in Ontario Canada and my budget is $500 - $1000. Extra question: What mic is good for cooking/eating ASMR? (I would really like to hear the crunch of the food when I eat them).
I just bought a Sony camera and Manfrotto tripod to film my embroidery sessions from above. I've watched other RUclips videos like this in which a person will bring an object up close to the camera lens, then reaching over, outside of the frame, adjust the focus so viewers can see the object. Do you know how they are adjusting the focus without touching the camera? Many thanks for your help!
Found graininess at full screen playback on 27 inch monitor with new as of today Logitech webcam C922 Pro Stream at 720/60FPS, same at 1080p/30. I guess fine for fun family videos but for something better I assume front lighting and better camera, thoughts??? Thank you
Hi from Croatia! I am thinking about start make YT videos,so I am beginner. Tape of videos will be walking around and filming myself and enviroment in front of me. So quality of image dont need to be the best in the world but I need good battery. Which vlog camera You suggest? Thanks a lot!!
I use an Olympus SZ-14 and I've been using it for my RUclips content for the past 5 years since 2018 (got it for Christmas in 2016) and it's been great help. The only issue is that there's no microphone port to plug in my microphone I bought from Amazon but it's a very solid camera
Amazing and detailed video! I want to upgrade my regular Logitech webcam with something that i can use for streaming as well for shooting normally. Ive been thinking about getting a Canon EOS M50 Mark II if anyone got experience with and would share it i would be grateful
I'm Currently using my S22 on a tripod with a wireless audio mic , with the mic attached to my lapel, i video myself in fishing matches and edit them and put them on my you tube channel . I now want to get a camera for doing this job, i am thinking Go pro 12 or DJ action 4 , or would the sony ZV-1F do the job . But i must be able to have a wireless Mic attachment as the camera will be away from me and there will be wind noise on some occasions . I also need to be able to hit record from a remote as i will be sitting on my seat box and i cant keep getting up and down during a match. Any advice would be greatly appreciated . Thanks Simon
hello!new vlogger here, thank you for the information. hopefully can purchase soon like that camera if happened to grow my channel😅 i’m using iphone 11 still🥰
Another great vid guys, exactly what people like me are looking for; you really are helping a lot of budding creators like me, thanks 👍🏻 I've just shot my 4th vid using my 2 phones, a Galaxy S21 and and A70e. Im actually using the A70e for the face to camera, locked off shots, as it has a 3.5mm jack port for my Lav Mic. The S21 is relegated to the plan shots😂 None-the-less my 3rd vid went north of 5k views inside 10 days, so I was pretty chuffed with that 😊 Ive just filmed my 4th which incorporates a few outdoors and vlogging style scenes, so Id like to look at a wireless mic set up and gimbe next. But I was want the channel to be self funding as, for me, thats part of the challenge and fin of it (but then maybe im just a masochist LOL).
Thanks, It's great to hear that our content is helpful. Congrats on hitting over 5k views on your third video and good luck with your future videos and equipment exploration - Hazel, PV Team
Thanks for your tips. They helped me a lot in making a prudent choice of a camera for vlogging. I was planning to get the new Iphone 15 but I shifted to a mirrorless camera based on my needs. Thanks, your videos always offer practical tips!

Yep, it's smart to buy used equipment to save money as long as it still provides good quality then that's a great deal 👍 - Hazel, PV Team
Excellent and insightful video for a starter like me.
Thank you very much.
Nice, you're welcome - Hazel, PV Team
Hello. What camera do you use for your videos? Thank you
I was using a Pixel 6 and the. My wife gifted me a Sony camcorder. I found the flip out screen is an exceptionally useful feature. Sadly, the Pixel image was better. But I'm not going back because of the flip screen.
I had the canon m50 but sold it now ready to buy another one
Hope you enjoy the new one - Hazel, PV Team
What would you recommend for gaming videos on your pc would a webcam or camera work best?
Hi, I need a camera that can film overhead footage of craft demos, close up. Can you advise what specs the camera needs to have? As a first buy I don’t want to pay over £450 ish. As a camera newbie it’s mind boggling! Any advise would be great. Thanks
I don’t necessarily have a recommendation but one thing I discovered with using my DSLR that I bought for print photography was that turning the autofocus off is a must. The camera would keep focusing on my hands and blur the project I was working on. Run a test before you film a whole demo to make sure yours does what you like.
@@laprimanerda7333 Thank you
Great video thanks so much mate, im definitely buying the sony zv1f
You're welcome, good luck with your purchase 👍 - Hazel, PV Team
I'm currently using my iPhone 14 Pro Max and it's honestly pretty decent. However, I would like to have a dedicated cam. I'm creating TechTuber content. So, not much movement.
I'm using a mid range smartphone lol. Samsung galaxy a54. I'm pretty happy with the quality. But always looking to improve. I love being able to pause the recording as I go, makes "editing" simple. Then I can upload straight to YT on the app with no hassle. Are there any actual cameras that can do similar things (pause recordings as you go?) Thanks!
Thank you, experiences are very important. I want to ask any question, can you share your equipments?
Any suggestions for a high quality webcam camera for a acer nitro gaming laptop? For live streaming on RUclips
Which one did you use to record this video ? I was planning to buy canon 5D mark IV , Am I on the right track ?
I am almost a year in with my RUclips channel. I am using my iPhone 14 Pro. Works good but not easy to get data from phone to computer. My computer is over 10 years old. Just ordered a new computer though. Was looking at getting the GoPro 9. I have a train channel so all filming is in garage. Low light. Small layout so not moved around a lot. Any thoughts?
Samsung s23 ultra
Love from Bangladesh ❤
I'm absolutely delighted to have stumbled upon your marvelous video, which has effortlessly satisfied my curiosity regarding the ideal camera. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and expertise! 📸😊

I need a good camera for making prank videos, I need a camera to zoom enough so I can shoot videos without people noticing. And price should be reasonable, What type do you recommend please?
iPhone 12pro does a great job for me 🎉 perfect for a starter channel
Nice talking, thank you ! You did't mentions 360 cameras, I using very actively Insta360 ONE RS...
Recently decide and push button and got Sony ZV-E10, soon will add 15mm 1,4 lens. AND very important, IF you plans to use this upscale cameras, then MUST to invest in Gimbal to get stable footage ! Also ordered Crane M3 (on sale in US now). Aghhhhh...Life is Good!
Thanks for sharing your experience with different cameras and equipment! 😃 - Hazel, PV Team
Thank you for all if this great information
No problem, glad you liked it - Hazel, PV Team
Nikon Z 30 with the Viltrox 13mm F1.4 Great Bokeh!!! Wide angle and good depth of field. 1200 total camera and lens.
It's satisfying to get a great setup for a reasonable price 😊 - Hazel, PV Team
Cheers 👍
I’m using my iPhone 14 pro max. I love the fact I can play torque drift while filming 😂
Awesome video. I'm currently using just my Samsung S22 Ultra, and they look good but I wanted something more!
Thank you! If you're looking for more, hope this video helps - Hazel, PV Team
I love this guy.
Thanks, Ashley - Hazel, PV Team
Im recording motorsports and have been for 20 years Cannon Rebel 3
What would be a good camera for when the camera is stationary and just filming into a blank white studio room like the jubilee videos?
Great advice, Justin. I use my Samsung phone for RUclips videos and works great.
Thanks, using a device that you already have can be a cost-effective option when starting out. - Hazel, PV Team
This is a great question! Looking into Sonys also !
I'm using my Note 20 Ultra for youtube, but hope and plans to get sony in the future.
It's a good choice for filming RUclips videos, especially with its high-quality camera. Best of luck! - Hazel, PV Team
I just started using my Motorola Moto. At first it wasn't too bad. Now after shooting many, it's fuzzy not clear. What's the best camera phone.

Great, so glad you found it helpful 🙏 - Hazel, PV Team
Found graininess at full screen playback on 27 inch monitor with new as of today Logitech webcam C922 Pro Stream at 720/60FPS, same at 1080p/30. I guess fine for fun family videos but for something better I assume front lighting and better camera, thoughts??? Thank you

You're very welcome! - Hazel, PV Team

What ap do you recomend the easiest for me it? I have a Samsung Galaxy A22
The camera would be used on construction job sites for shorts what would you recommend?
I'm currently using my s23 Ultra and it gets the job done but I do want to step it up
Go for it - Hazel, PV Team
I use an Olympus SZ-14 and I've been using it for my RUclips content for the past 5 years since 2018 (got it for Christmas in 2016) and it's been great help. The only issue is that there's no microphone port to plug in my microphone I bought from Amazon but it's a very solid camera
Glad you found an alternative way to make it work 👍 - Hazel, PV Team
@@PrimalVideo Thanks. I do use my other cameras from my phones too
what did you use to film this video?
my family is using nikon Z9 and D850. Z9 supports 8K and Pro-Res. my favorite old camera is D750.
Such a diverse range of cameras to work with - Hazel, PV Team

😅 - Hazel, PV Team
Hi Loved the Video. Looking for a camera to film in a ballet studio what do you recommend?
hello!new vlogger here, thank you for the information. hopefully can purchase soon like that camera if happened to grow my channel😅 i’m using iphone 11 still🥰
Hey, you're welcome - Hazel, PV Team
Another great vid guys, exactly what people like me are looking for; you really are helping a lot of budding creators like me, thanks 👍🏻
I've just shot my 4th vid using my 2 phones, a Galaxy S21 and and A70e. Im actually using the A70e for the face to camera, locked off shots, as it has a 3.5mm jack port for my Lav Mic. The S21 is relegated to the plan shots😂
None-the-less my 3rd vid went north of 5k views inside 10 days, so I was pretty chuffed with that 😊
Ive just filmed my 4th which incorporates a few outdoors and vlogging style scenes, so Id like to look at a wireless mic set up and gimbe next.
No problem, so glad you found the video helpful - Hazel, PV Team
I don’t do physical vids because I don’t have a camera and I use iPhone but I will start vlogging soon
I just recently bought a gopro 11 creator. I think this will be a good starting point for the videos I want to do! I just have an issue with deciding on microphones. But I’ll just try my best! Thanks!
Congratulations on your new GoPro Hero 11 Creator! It's great to hear that you found the video helpful in getting started with creating videos. As for microphones, it's important to consider the type of content you'll be creating and the environment in which you'll be recording. All the best 😃 - Hazel, PV Team
Nice. I'm going to be doing Podcasting and other cooking videos, etc. What do you recommend for podcasts through RUclips?
I’d recommend starting with what you have or what’s easy, then upgrade as or when you need to
