I love that the brigadier is so used to seeing multiple incarnation s of the doctor from previous stories like the three doctor and the five doctor's that he automatically knows who the doctor is
He just looks for who's causing the most trouble with the biggest mess. They've known each other so long he knows the signs to look for! A scrappy human complaining he's gonna get himself killed doesn't hurt in identifying him, either. 🤣
He once saw him regenerate.
no matter what face the madman wears, he will always be recognized
It's the dress sense. 😁
He looks for the person with the srupidest clothes
"What are you doing in the lake?"
"Drowning. Here, you can be King of England." 😂
@@MatthewsStopMotions 😂😂😂 it's on
'You recognize me then?'
'Yes! Who else would it be?'
I love that.
carealoo744 Brigadier after the Doctor stands up: “You’re shorter than the last time I saw you.”
Honestly it’s actually interesting, despite all the characters in doctor who, there are very few who are able to properly see the doctor beyond the differences in his regenerations, as in, characters who don’t see the 10th doctor or the 13th doctor or the 12th, that just see the doctor, as missy puts it, ‘it doesn’t matter which one they’re all the doctor to me’. Even most companions don’t know the doctor deeply enough to see it, so it really says something about how special the brigadier is in relation to the doctor that he’s more or less the only character who managed to pull it off with a human lifespan. Even in the audio stories where he meets 6 and 8. They’re all still just the doctor.
Should have added, "I'm surprised you recognized me, Doctor!"
@@darcybrummett7004more similar to the first height he saw him.
@@madanotap6492 thats the problem with the behind the scenes people wiping the slate clean nearly every time theres a regeneration very few companions are there to see the commonalities at that point in time the brig has met the 1st second 4th 5th and in this video the 7th he doesnt look for the differences he looks for the memories
One of the subtle things I loved about this scene is that this was actually a callback to a scene from the 3rd Doctor. When the 2nd Doctor became the 3rd Doctor, 3 asked him "Don't you recognize me, Brigadier?" And now the man knows and understands the Doctor so well that he DOES, in fact, recognize him; even after regenerating.
Love how the Brig has encountered many incarnations of the Doctor. RIP, Nicholas Courtney.
It's a shame he never got to meet 8, 9, 10, 11, or 12
@The Ghost he has met 9 with Nicholas Briggs doing The Brig, I've got those stories and it was great to hear 9 being reunited with the Brig after the Time War
he has met 8 and 10 on big finish, and if you count cyber brig, 12 as well@@TheGhost-rp3ko
@TheGhost-rp3ko, and he even met 8th in audio stories, of course
He did meet the 12th doctor actually In death in heaven after he became a cyberman, granted that was after the death of the actor that played him.
They are REALLY promoting Season 26 and I am really loving it
It's because they released the season as a Doctor Who collection on DVD/ Blu-rays.
Dan 23 yes I know but they’ve not done as much for the other boxsets
"I am the brigadier."
"So am I."
“Listen, strange women lying in ponds, distributing swords is no basis for a system of government!” -Dennis
I just can’t watch anything to do with Arthur and a sword without thinking of this quote. Goood Doctor Who episode though!!!
A Lost One
Watery tart.
My favourite companion saves the 7th Doctor. I wish there had been a series of him travelling in The Tardis with The Doctor.
the brig and 3rd had three years together, but he had adventures with 2nd 3rd 4th 5th and 7th
There is a Doctor Who Unbound series by Big Finish on audio where David Warner voices an alternate version of the 3rd Doctor who gets stranded in the 90s and the Brigadier travels with him
7: So, you recognize me, then?
Brigadier: Yes! Who else would it be?
I just love how accepting he was at of regeneration at that point in the series. "Hey, lots of ridiculous and fantastical things going on, I wouldn't be surprised if the Doctor's nearby."
I’ve been loving these clips, and the ensuing discussions, and the special editions on the blu ray, and behind the scenes moments, how can you not support a great story somebody nearly died making?
Who was the one that nearly that died?
Tomas Alberto Torres Murillo - Sophie Aldred as Ace, this from the BBC Doctor Who site:
“During recording of the sequence where Ace is trapped in the water tank, the tank cracked, causing Sophie Aldred to sustain cuts to her hands and creating a major hazard as water flooded out onto the studio floor. The moment when the tank first cracked can be seen in Part Three as the Doctor struggles with the controls and Ace is lifted clear of the water.”
The behind the scenes footage along with the actors recollection of events is a tad more dramatic:
You can hear Sylvester yelling, “GET HER OUT!!!” as the glass cracks, releasing water, and the chaps on both sides (who were spraying the water in) yell down at Sophie, who raises her hand to theirs, and they grab her and pull her up.
At the same time as all this is happening the glass continues to split from the bottom up and all the water and broken glass is sweeping out onto the studio floor electrics forcing everyone to run to high ground, whilst huge shards of glass hang and drop right where Sophie could have been had the water pulled her along with it.
All in about 3 seconds.
It’s legacy was a change in BBC safety policy, with footage of this event being used to explain why, and as nobody was inclined to try re-filming the scene, least of all Sophie, they had to re-frame parts of it for use in the episode.
don’t forget in revenge of the cyberman when Elisabeth Sladen was on the JetSki it went haywire and slammed into solid rock she only avoided being blown to bits because she jumped clear Before the JetSki hit the wall. that’s why you see her get on it but you don’t see her get off. So Ace was not the only doctor’s companion who was nearly killed for real because of an accident on Set.
“So you recognize me then?”
“Yes! Who else would it be?”
I love that so much.
Battlefield: Its’ ambition may have slightly exceeded it grasp and it may occasionally be a bit hokey but I love it.
Such a shame they didn’t bring the Brigadier into the new show. Sure, he was mentioned and payed hommage with the character of his daughter Kate and yes, he was in an episode of The Sarah Jane Adventures but I would’ve liked to see him with one of the new Doctors (either 9, 10 or maybe 11 since he died before/during series 6)
itsAndre I don't like the new doctor who he should've had a goodbye with Matt smith
Apparently Russell T Davies intended to bring the Brig back on the show during his tenure, but Nicholas Courtney wasn't in good enough health to reprise the role at the time. It's a shame, too; it would've been nice seeing him interact with Nine and/or Ten.
He would have been amazing with Capaldi.
There were definitely a couple times they planned to bring him in, one was during the Sontaron Stratagem and the other was the SJA 2 parter the Wedding of Sarah Jane. Both times Courtney suffered from strokes just prior to I believe, hence why they it became a bit of a running thing that he’s stuck on assignment in Peru.
There's a comic out there with 9 and the Brigadier. And from what I've read of that comic, the Brig and the 9th Doctor didn't get along very well. 😂
The top 5 classic companions: The Brigadier, Jaime, Zoe, Sarah Jane, and Ace.
The brigadier must be the most important companion. Sure, make your arguments about new who, but my man’s has met 6 different incarnations of the Doctor in the show, not to mention all the ones he’s met in spin off media
0:50 my man Bruno Mars was in the military after all

Apparently, at 1:15, Nicholas Courtney stalled the 2CV when stopping it, which is why it jerks forwards!
Just watched that on german television! I really love old Who

I mean she did just blow up an archeological dig site that he’d been carefully sweeping over for months
Remember bumping into nicholas courtney outside Macdonald's during a convention. Always seemed very friendly
This reminds me so much about BBC Merlin.
MC&SC Music i know right
I loved this scene while I was watching this story! Pretty good!
Man with a hat and a scarf fighting aliens while brandishing three different types of question mark. Who else would it be!?
I can't let you out of my sight.
"The Doctor is Saved by the Brigadier"
Did you know Sophie was saved by Sylvester? From what I understand, when Sophie/Ace is in the glass tank and it's filling with water, the glass was close to breaking or something, or did, and Sylvester ended up saving Sophie's life.
They also have the same birthday. Ace is my numero uno Favorite companion from either major series! And I LOVE this story!
I JUST CAN'T LET YOU OUT OF MY SIGHT CAN I DOCTOR?
Battlefield is one of my favourite classic who stories. It had everything
They were really determined to drown Sophie Aldred back then weren’t they...
Worth watching just for the advert at the end. Super!
Ah yes, proper Doctor Who.
Alright.
Where is the Brigadier best moments?

Plus I can finally hear Sophie & Sylvester at the end!! Hooray
r.i.p Nicholas Courtney
love that.
Oddly enough the fact that the Brogadier recognizes him before knowing, makes me think of how he saves 12th most likely by knowing he's the one getting into trouble.
Met Sylvester in town by Bath Abbey afew years ago got his autograph & had a chat what a buzz meeting Dr Who.
The Brigadier always has his way of saving his good friend the Doctor. The Seventh Doctor Sylvester McCoy and the Brigadier Alastair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart. That friendship between the Brigadier and the Doctor is a special friendship that's strong just as his friendship with Captain Jack Harkness is. Captain Jack has traveled with the Doctor on many adventures. But so has Sarah Jane Smith and the Brigadier Alastair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart. But the companions always remembered are Rose Tyler and Captain Jack Harkness.
Sarah Jane Smith and the Brigadier are never forgotten especially when the Doctor remembers through all the adventures taken in the Tardis.
I like this new Brigadier, too bad she was only in one story.
This is so campy I love it
See they had a woman brigadier in the 80’s, if that were done today people would riot, she wouldn’t be replacing the brigadier, brigadier is a title not a name.
Shaggy Rogers I mean Kate is sort of a replacement for the brig
Let's be honest, the difference is that today they're doing it clearly for political reason.
Yulian of Rivia you’ve not seen this episode have you
This was the second head of Unit we'd seen since the Brig retired, the first being Colonel Crichton in the Five Doctors. My only problem with Bambera In this was that her character wasn't written with the same charm as Lethbridge Stewart. She just felt like a hard nosed military leader in this story. Her development in her Big Finish adventure (the unproduced season 27 story involving UNIT) rectified this for me though.
@@silencio00 Ahhh translated as 'ways the world is changing that I don't like' as 'political reason'.
I really liked the Brigadier Alastair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart with the Doctor. Those two have an unlikely friendship connection to each other. The Brigadier is always there when the Doctor needs him or if if the Brigadier knows that his friend the Doctor is in need of saving from danger that he can't get himself out of.
Oh Doctor. What is the Brigadier going to do with you aye.
The Doctor(Sylvester McCoy) saying after the Doctor: Oh what am I going to do with you Doctor.
The Doctor then says Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart.
The Brigadier Sir Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart: I just can't let you out of my sight can I Doctor.
The Doctor(Sylvester McCoy): Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart. Do you recognize me then.
How brilliantly special their bonded friendship was.
I just do the best that I can.
Ace is so cute 🥰
I really musy watch these, great stuff.
Oh Doctor what am I going to do with you.

Back when it was Good
Hey guys I know this sounds irrelevant but you know something Captain Jack Harkness and Sergeant Benton would make a perfect couple
Back when Doctor Who was still good.
Please stop divisive, sexist and racist rhetoric, abandon corrosive identity politics and return to good story telling. Thank you.
This classic clip is miles better than the entire chris chibnal run.
Back when Doctor Who was a GOOD science fiction programme.
I like the Sylvester McCoy version of the Doctor too. All versions of the Doctor are brilliant right up to David Tennant's Fourteenth Doctor Who but until a new Doctor that is better than the Ncuti Gatwa version of the Fifteenth Doctor Who. I stop watching Doctor Who until a Sixteenth Doctor Who is announced.
What don't you like? His energy? His enthusiasm? The way he's obviously black?
and this is why i could never get on board with classic who... aside from the blatant misogyny... ridiculously stupid, but not in a good way
Ridiculously stupid? Classic who? I'm afraid those two don't go together. How about a show with absolutely brilliant as well as mediocre and bad moments, JUST like new who. Doctor Who has never been consistent in quality except for a few years here and there. There isn't a single era/doctor without at least a couple of ridiculously stupid, utterly atrocious episodes, rightfully balanced by some fantastic ones.
Doesn’t ‘ridiculously stupid’ describe new who as well? This show is just inherently goofy.
If you're not on board with "ridiculously stupid" I wonder why one would be interested in Who at all
When the English Brigadier show up in an icon French car.
