  • As recommended in 'Doctor Who Magazine' Issue 433 and 'The Guardian', this is a personal and affectionate tribute to Nicholas Courtney - a wonderful man who passed away on 22nd February 2011, leaving behind him a legacy of love and affection in the hearts of thousands of fans. After 40 years playing the same character - from 1968 to 2008 - he charmed and enthralled generations of viewers. A huge presence in my childhood, the Brigadier was just as much a part of me as the Doctor was. And with the death of Nicholas Courtney a little bit of my childhood died with him. God bless Nick and a heartfelt salute to the Brigadier. Lest we ever forget....
For the benefit of so many Nick Courtney fans who have asked me the same question: the music is a cover of Evanescence's single 'My Immortal', performed by Gregorian.

    Gone, but not forgotten.
Nicholas Courtney created a brilliant preformance of a military leader, but with a twinkle in the eye who became one of the Doctor's greatest friends.
Then they brought in Jemma Redgrave, whose Kate Stewart continued the legacy of her father, always in spirit of Nicholas Courtney, with even his image often present in the background.
And then there is Jon Culshaw, an impressionist and Doctor Who fan, particulary of the Pertwee era, who was cast because of his talent to impersonate voices. But he didn't just mimic Nick Courtney's voice, he resurrected the Brigadier without losing the character and the original preformance. Very much a tribute from a fan to one of his heroes.
Nick. Jemma. Jon. Thanks for creating the Brigadier, continuing his legacy and letting his spirit live on.

The thing that amazes me about Nicholas Courtney is how much chemistry he had with everyone. Whether it was Troughton, Frazer Hines, Wendy Padbury, Pertwee, John Levene, Richard Franklin, Katy Manning, Elisabeth Sladen, Baker, Davison, McCoy, even Anjli Mohindra in the Sarah Jane Adventures, he always seemed to have great onscreen chemistry.

This is a lovely tribute to the late great Nicholas Courtney and his Character Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart.
As the 2nd Doctor once said about his friend "Dear old Lethbridge-Stewart. Still blazing away as usual." That was SO true! *Chuckles*
Without the Brig and UNIT to help him out, I feel the Doctor's efforts to stop threats to Earth would have failed. Also I'm glad Nicholas was available for Doctor Who's 10th an 20th Anniversary, they wouldn't have been Anniversary's without him present in some form.
So to quote the 3rd Doctor: "Thank you, Brigadier. But do you think that for once in your life you could manage to arrive before the nick of time?"
Brigadier: "I'm glad to see you too, Doctor."

Cause i don´t know if a lot of remember this, but im the Series 6 finale, the hospital calls the Doctor and tells him that the Brigadier has passed away and that he always put on a glass of wine on this table just in case of The Doctor stepping by to pay a visit to him.

It is just so terribly sad that the two most iconic companions in Doctor Who history died within only weeks of each other. Growing up in the 90's I missed out on Doctor Who as a child. I started watching when the series was recomissioned in 2005 but am now a huge fan of the classics and my favourite era of the show is the Troughton/Pertwee era. One of the greatest Companions Of all time. I've not knowingly met anyone who has put him at the top of their list of best or faverite, But he about as iconic to the first era of Doctor Who as the Doctor and the Tardis are. The Brigadier appeared along side no less than 5 Doctors on screen and several others in adventures off screen. I can't think of more than a couple of characters who can say they've shared screen time with more than 2 at the most. (not counting the 5 Doctors, although while cannon, makes things a bit wobbly)

if youre not counting the five doctors Sarah Jane had 4 3rd 4th 10th and 11th
there are NO others who can claim more than 2
ben and polly had first and 2nd
jo grant had 3rd and 11th
tegan nyssa and adric had 4th and 5th
      IT had 11th and 12th
      rose had 8th and 9th
I cant remember all 50 companions and there are some stories missing but I cant remember any other companions who crossed, might have to go watch again!
