Though Germany has less mountains and less high mountains than the neighbouring Austria and Switzerland, the Zugspitze is still one of the absolute highlight to visit in the Alps. There's hardly a better and more convenient vantage point where you can look over 4 different countries all at once: Germany (obviously), Austria, Switzerland and even Italy.
Thank you for the great trip down memory lane! My husband and I met 40 years ago (December 1983) on the Zugspitze train on our way to go skiing. We both lived in Germany at the time; he was in the Air Force and I worked for the U.S. Consulate. We can't believe how much has changed since we were there. Looks like you had a fantastic time! Thank you again!
I've been up there, but it was nearly 50 years ago and it looks a lot different (more developed) than I remember. It is great scenery, and I'm so glad you got to go up there, and on a sunny day no less. Kathryn get those feet UP. You didn't travel 5000 miles just to lay up. Those sunglasses lived a good life and died in a way that would make the other sunglasses envious.
Germany is such a beautiful country with so many areas to visit. So glad you finally made it to the areas you wanted to see. We lived there years ago and now spend our retirement returning quite often to see even more of the country and sharing it with our granddaughters. Keep on traveling........ We will be back twice this year.
I’m old enough to remember that the Winter Olympics were once held in Garmish. I visited there with my wife in the 2000’s. We drove from there to Zurich. It was an epic drive ( summer time, of course).
Great video! Amazing photography! Feats of daring do - sledding. Love snow on your faces and snow in Kathryn's hair. You guys are SO BRAVE! Bless you on your way. ❤
So much fun! Those mountains are amazing! The tobogganing looked awesome! So sorry about your sunglasses, though. 😎 Thanks for taking us on this trip through Germany! ❤
wow those giggle laughs of terror while sliding down the slope on the mountain was so funny to hear, you're still having fun but it was obvious you were scared
Great video! Your video is making me remanence the trip my husband and I did this past September in Garmish.❤I've been to all around Germany (Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, etc.) but Garmish is the one place we want to come back to. If you ever have the chance, come back to do the hikes around the Alps when their isn't snow, I feel it would be right up your guys' alley! The views at the top of the Zugspitze are breathtaking and was one of the highlights from our trip, can't wait to see your future videos on your next adventures!!!
Headed to Garmisch in July! Can you recommend some hikes, and/or a good guide? I have the Cicerone Bavaria guide coming. We’ve been to Ehrwald, so we know a little about the broader area, but any tips from a fellow hiker would be welcome
I was here last June with my aunt, grandmother, and cousin. It had been a dream of mine to go to Europe since I was young, and it was a dream come true. When we got to the top, I just started crying because it was such a spectacular view, and I had remembered Rick Steves did a couple shows atop the mountain. I even cried a few other times while on our trip. It was an amazing trip to Europe
Hey hey A+K! Beautiful scenery. I love sledding and I am glad you got to do it despite the epic wipe out. (Sorry about your broken sunglasses and bruising.)
A+K is back!!! These videos from Germany are awesome! The mountains look so beautiful and so EPIC!!! The toboggan runs had to be a blast! Also drinking a maple latte while having that view…🤯🤯🤯!!! Amazing vlog Adam and Katherine, you’re the best!
So glad you got a clear day and just perfect conditions to go up. I have been to quite a few even higher vantage points in the Alps - honestly, nothing beats Zugspitze on such a day! I actually hiked the mountain in September when the first snow was on the ground and the sky just as deep blue and it was magical.
Gorgeous scenery and nice job on pronouncing those German place names! We re-watched that part a few times trying to learn how to say that! Sledding with a view and an epic wipeout - very entertaining! ;) And glad you are ok.
Garmisch is probably my favorite place in the world. And Eibsee def my favorite spot. In the summer I swim that lake as often as I can. You swim out a bit and turn over and float and look up at the alps. It’s magical.
This was such an entertaining and fun video! Since you were okay after the sledding crash and I knew beforehand anyway 🤪 we laughed so hard at your snow covered head, Kathryn! That long drool you couldn’t feel was really funny too! 🤣 Looks like you all had an awesome time! Such absolute beauty! Nick said the video didn’t do the beauty justice but it still had my jaw dropping!

Great to see you both getting so much more adventurous, and visiting Germany for the first time! And thanks for the peek ahead so we knew you got new glasses and lenses. Hope the bruising healed quickly!
I loved this video! I knew what the highest mountain was; we were there 34 years ago!! I loved watching you guys having a good time with the toboggan! “That was intense; let’s do it again”. You had a classic wipe out! LOL. LOL. LOL.

Thank you for your time and posting. I skied on the Zugspitze in 1975, I was stationed in the US Army for 3 1/2 years in Nuremberg. Still the greatest place I have ever lived. Did you get a chance to visit the Neuschwanstein Castle? Not too far away. It is the castle that Walt Disney duplicated for the Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland.

It was a tad scary! We're happy we made it out safe and that the worst casualty were the glasses! You can hike it, but we've read it is pretty intense and you have to start very early! Thank you!
There's absolutely no way I'd be up there without skis. Grew up skiing and have skied several mountain locations in the USA. Also used metal rail sleds back home. I'm a little addicted to speed on snow slopes, I'd probably be running with the sled in my hands and then jumping on, to get more speed. Haha

you gotta visit mountainous southern Tyrol. It's German speaking but belongs to Italy. Its highest mountain is even 1000m higher than the Zugspitze. I like southern tyrol so much because of the cuisine. Austrian tyrol cusine is similar to bavarian cuisine whereas in southern tyrol you kinda taste the italian influence: it's savory like in Germany but has more veggies to it.

Do you know if it is possible to take the train both ways? I’m going to that region in june with my sister who is afraid of heights, so she is not comfortable using the cable car. I’d love to go up there but it would be nice if my sister could also come at least up to the plateau.
Hi! I’m preeeetty sure you can. We had that question also. You for sure have to take a cable car to the summit but I think you can take the train back down
thanks, I think with a 16 year old teenager in tow the big mountain visit will probably be the better choice this time. thanks for the great video's, i am following a lot of your tips in 2 weeks for Munich. Why did you not go to Innsbruck or Saltzburg? @@AdventuresofAplusK
Thank you for this video! We just got back from Germany and we went up the Zugspitze! When we got to the plateau at Eibsee, it was still a clear albeit cloud-cover day so when we summitted and had lunch, it was too cloudy to see. Still got great photos though!! We ended up staying at a hotel in Partenkirchen and LOVED IT
Totally understand your feelings about your sunglasses. I get very attached to mine as I search for the most comfortable, I can find and spend a fortune for prescription lenses. I lost my Oakley's in the bay of Alaska on a cruise. I have the habit of hanging them on my shirt on my chest. Leaned over the railing and there they go to the bottom. Some Tuna or some sea animal is swimming around looking very cool in my shades and no doubt flaunting them to whatever female species he is.
Aw man that is a big bummer! We have that habit as well. We'll have to rethink that! We'll let ya know if we spot a super cool lookin tuna out there one day! 😉😂 sorry for your loss
Beautiful place! I ruined my wife’s best sunglasses by sitting on them in Yosemite. At least Adam ducked that bullet (which still ricochets around our house 🙄)

Ein tolles Video! Ihr macht das besser als die Deutschen selbst. Grüße aus Stuttgart
Thank you!
Which site or app to use for weather prediction in zugspitze? Which one you used for this?
We just used their website! zugspitze.de/en
You for sure have to take a cable car to the summit but I think you can take the train back down
Is there not a third option for reaching the summit of Zugspitze…hiking up?
There is. However it is only for mountaineer pros. And I really mean pros. It's a long and very difficult climb.
Yes you can hike up. It does look like a pretty intense hike, but it can be done in good conditions. We'd love to do it one day!
What app did u guys use to check visibility?
The Zugspitze website has webcams and they were very helpful zugspitze.de/en
do you recommend a night here or in Fussen? Im trying to decide which one to stay at before Innsbruck
That's a tough pick! If you only have one day we'd probably go with Garmisch-Partenkirchen. You can't go wrong with either though. Both amazing!
thanks, I think with a 16 year old teenager in tow the big mountain visit will probably be the better choice this time. thanks for the great video's, i am following a lot of your tips in 2 weeks for Munich. Why did you not go to Innsbruck or Saltzburg? @@AdventuresofAplusK
We did go to Innsbruck for a day. We just didn’t have a lot of time in the area. With filming and other work going on everything just takes longer
Crashing while tobbaganing is half the fun!
Heck yeah!
Does that cable car go fast? Looks scary 😮
It moved pretty quick!
Thank you for this video! We just got back from Germany and we went up the Zugspitze! When we got to the plateau at Eibsee, it was still a clear albeit cloud-cover day so when we summitted and had lunch, it was too cloudy to see. Still got great photos though!! We ended up staying at a hotel in Partenkirchen and LOVED IT
That's so awesome! It's amazing out there. We're glad you had a great time!
Did you have cell phone reception up there?
Yes we did!
Beautiful place! I ruined my wife’s best sunglasses by sitting on them in Yosemite. At least Adam ducked that bullet (which still ricochets around our house 🙄)
Oh no! That's a bummer! Hopefully she could get some replacements!
👍😊👍
You left your dog???????
She’s too big for the normal cabin and we aren’t putting her through the cargo experience
You are so sweet, best choices of tours.
Great video ! Also wondering if you guys are Mormon ?
Thanks!
No, we aren’t religious
Didn’t mean to get personal haha just wondering about the drinking etc :)
Keep up the good work !
No worries! The drinking is just personal choice
Thanks and thank you for watching!
@@AdventuresofAplusK I respect that !
RIP sunglasses
