The Best £30,000 You Can Spend On Car Fun! My Caterham Racing Begins

- Опубликовано: 16 мар 2020
- It finally begins! My racing "career" and time in my new Caterham Academy race car starts today - for £30,000 I'm convinced this is the most fun you can have in a car on track but you can ALSO take that same car racing AND drive home again - it's a mega series I can't wait to share with you...

Hands down - the most multifaceted youtuber! I mean this, then nvn london, the new jww hq, the regular journeys, car presentations, podcasts at nvn, track days, his own cars! Of course lets not forget the modern classic series, which I hope will come back at some point! Good stuff! Keep it going (as much as it's possible nowadays), James!;)
Thanks buddy!
If i could only have one channel to watch for the rest of my life it would be James’. Just unreal. Keep it up and you’ll be the moat subbed car channel one day for certain
Will be good to follow you during the racing season (not sure how it will be affected by current events though...). Just a request: can we get the overlay of the rear video camera moved to the top right? Right now being in the middle it covers too much of what we want to see!
The really best thing about going from track days to racing is realizing that learning the fast line isn't enough - because some other bugger's already on that line. So if you want to get past them, you have to learn to adapt. That is super fun when you get it right. I often do an exercise when lapping tracks I know well - I do a few laps pretending there's a car on my right side and I have to give them racing room at every turn. Then do a few laps with them on your left side.
I think put rear view camera screen in top right.
Coolest way to start racing, keep it up!
The Seven is forever young. Great car, great series, enjoy the ride.
Nice video, love Thuxton in the academy. You will prob hear people joking about the tyres (academy tyres designed to be low grip), but I found them quite fun. Helps to get car control, nothing beats sideways at 90mph+ and catching it. Let’s hope coronavirus doesn’t halt proceedings for two long, Caterham racing best thing I’ve ever done, great to see people doing it for the first time as a reminder 😃
One of the best and most interesting videos mate! Keep the coming, coaching, telemetry and seat time will get you there....
Looking forward to another exciting video 🙂👍🏻
in the netherlands you can drive a cup called DNRT, you can "cheaply" race in a mx5 cup, e36 compact cup, e30 325 cup. from about 10k euros a year. everyone has the same car, very close racing and very learnfull.
Slow is smooth, smooth is fast, fast is lethal. Great start MrJWW.
I am looking forward to seeing your journey in the Caterham, it looks like a lot of fun.
Dude I really enjoyed this, something different to the norm. Wouldn’t mind if you actually post the 20mins race tbh.
Awesome stuff James! Here's hoping the series can go ahead this year. Also, would be disproportionatly brilliant to see your fastest lap, start to finish :)
A friend did the only season of the scottish caterham academy
And we did it super cheap
Drove it to all the events and what did we use as a support car?
Another caterham which probably wasn't the most sensible choice but it was fun
This is really cool! Nice work and great video mate
Really interesting!! Can't wait for next videos. Congrats
James thanks for taking us along for the journey! I love driving these things on my sim. You're a lucky man. Do you work on your fitness for this? I do for karting. You gotta come to Australia too mate 🙂👍
I'm actually really looking forward to following this! Good luck!
These track days are addictive. Keep up the good work!
MR. JWW you are doing the year right. FML the content is next level. Excited to follow the journey
Never a big fan of the “look at me in a hyper car” stuff, but this is fab. Hope the virus doesn’t effect your prep and racing too much. Thanks.
Great vid as always, so professional. Shame your season will now be spoiled. Anyway, there is still so much going on which hopefully won't be hampered by the CV.
03:06 the camera mountings look like minions😍
Impressive stuff. Thanks much. Best on RUclips.
Very cool. Looks like a LOT of fun!
surely the best way utubers can provide some good genuine fun content without going OTT!! STG & SCL not forgetting TGE should get involved, maybe even creating a racing series....
I drove a Caterham on the Jonathon Palmer day and was amazed how easy it was to spin it at 15 mph so driving it at speed - respect
this is awesome can't wait for more content
James this content is unique
Love the livery on the car 🤟
This looks like a lot of fun
Love it 👍🏻
Subscribed ! Great content
You are putting out great contents about cars. Big fan
Smart colour scheme has to be said screams it needs sponsorship from Duckhams oils
Mr jww awesome videos keep it up
7 looks great J, very jealous!
Hi James, your content is seriously the best out there and Caterhams are a great way to start racing. Just one caveat though, be careful as they are basically open wheel cars and although thankfully a rare occurrence when the wheels touch the consequences can quickly become very nasty. I love your excitement and passion for going racing and can really identify with it, but after seeing what can happen a few years ago I wouldn't race Caterhams again.
Best bang for buck track car money can buy, i looked at buying one of these but in AU the second hand ones are usually old 1.6 escort motors for 30k and the newer ones were like 50k. I had a few concerns with crash protection on the road as they are small and not easily seen. I ended up buying an evo instead.
Are any of your competitors set up with left handed driving set up like from the states?
I liked your paint job that I know you paid extra for. I downloaded their application to see how much everything cost, and you're right. The cost of this historically competent program (or school if you will) and the return you get in training and experience going through its amazingly fun course is probably one of the best values for this kind of hands on racing programs out in the market today.
Good luck. And have loads of fun while you're honing your skills you lucky bastard!
Love this channel
Your HANS Device.
The straps are designed to stretch on impact, to slow the head down on impact ( not a lot, but they do stretch ), and save on brain injury.
The straps are to be replaced if the HANS has been in an accident.
Your best video. It was very interesting.
Thanks for watching 👍🏻
Grate content 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Awsome way bring us on with u seat of a raceing car. Do get keep car for good or just like a lease on car for racing year or as long as u keep racing
awsome vbox data on video true professional love the content
Race footage, is there anyway to move rear cam to top right or just slightly smaller? Sort of obstructing the view of the car ahead.
Such a cool thing to do, I hope the series isn't too affected by Coronavirus!
It sadly is so far - lots of races cancelled but hopefully we find a way to squeeze them in to the end of the year
12:24 I believe poop came out at that moment
Looks amazing! Keep up the videos on this one. Really think I may have to join in the years to come. So much bang for buck!
It’s brilliant, the are a few videos on my channel from my races. It does ruin track days though ... you don’t want to go back.
Now that's cool.
Love thruxton, learning to fly there
Fantastic video mate. I just bid on a Caterham this week. fingers crossed.
You haven't said whether you got it! Any luck?
Damm iv only watched the first 30 seconds and all I got from that is I need to get my Westfield out on track!
Yeah man!! 🥳👍🏻
Nice job!
All about momentum I guess, right?
awesome video !
next video : i've bought a RV and trailer for the Caterham
Dang James I want one really bad now! They need a circuit of America’s... bring them here!!!
Ninja tingle scense on full chat there james
Thanks for liking my tweet
Please do a drive and review om your Caterham! Also awesome video
Wish they had this program in the US. That’s a crazy price
What a great idea for entry into a decent racing class. 260kph + is not hanging about. This is serious stuff imo.
I love for say $60-65K AUD
Has Coronavirus ruined your season already James? 😬
Very interested about this as well. My season in the states has been squashed until the end of April as of right now. But who knows as time progresses.
@@R1SoDaRkLy same for the UK unfortunately
Here in the US basicly every event is postponed or canceled. Where i live in palm springs the entire city is shutting down until April 10th only essentials will be open
telemetry is v cool
Cool video! Out of interest, did you have any competition on track with the civic seen at 0:35? Would love to know how the two cars compare!
Hi couldn't find John Barnes racing on it RUclips.
What about if you buy the car second-hand do you have to buy it from the club, what about modifications are they allowed, like engine transmission and suspension modifications you put on. Yeah looks interesting, you didn't say the costs for you suit helmet and anything else you said it was expensive!! Why do you need to replace a roll bar every year, If no collision has happened, I would have thought that's not necessary! How often do you have to rebuild the engine and they can be part of your own choosing or you have to buy the parts from them. Anyway thanks
How is James still Not in the Million subs Range is One of Earths bigest mysteris
James, can you please review a renault megane 275 trophy?
Brilliant. What brand is that HANS device ?
Being first on the last lap is the same theory In cycling as well. You’re just towing the winner to the finish line 🤦🏻♂️
So tempted to enter this, how much is it to sign up to race the 2nd year? Also does caterham ship the car to the track to you if you chose not to drive it there (my concern is if you total the car you can’t get home)
So at the start of a race, you’re going to have time to look across and start your egg-timer? Looking forward to seeing that
I've been driving lotus 7's for years, absolutetly love them. But few people know you can do it much cheaper than this. As I recently found out Caterham is like the apple comupter of kit cars - Very good but about twice as expensive as it needs to be. There are a heap of just as reputable companies who build lotus 7's for much much less.
You can buy a kit and build one from MK Motorsport for under £10k, and enter yourself into the magnificant 7's championship for a couple more thousand. You end up with your own road legal lotus 7, and racing full time (if you want) for a fraction of the price. Ive just ordered a more powerful version which uses a Honda s2000 engine, so is the equivilent of an R500 caterham, and its going to cost me £16k instead of £40k from caterham.
Seriously guys check out MK. They have been building these cars for 20 years now and are a great outfit
But I do love what you are doing as well - I just would never be able to afford £30k so thought I would share my experience for others to see. I fell in love with Caterhams after driving one for the first time 10 years ago - been hooked on it ever since. The caterham series is a very very good series to race in!
What was the decider between Caterham Academy & the Ginetta program? They're quite close cost wise aren't they?
Plunk your derrière in that seat, James. Hilarious! That is a very bumpy circuit, or is that the camera showing it?
Great video, however the rear view camera is pretty annoying in the centre. Would be possible to either remove it or move it to the top right?
Sounds good to me... When you mention Racing no matter in what form $30,000 is probably pretty cheap... Racing is not expensive said no-one ever...
£30,000 which is nearly 40,000 dollars
@@freddiejones4598 yep lot of money. It's the starting point for racers... I don't know much about the cost but I'm guessing starting a go-cart /caterham style racing team is a lot cheaper than starting car racing which probably starts at $300,000
That Marlboro livery EG though..
You get to keep the car as in you own it or you can use the same one next season?
I enjoyed watching this racing adventure and look forward to more in the future. I would ask if the rear camera view can be moved to the top-right as it cuts off the track and traffic ahead.
30k for the car and racing, actually using a car, pushing the vehicle and yourself to the limit or a 200k lambo, mclaren, etc that depreciates by 60-100k while you trundle round London showing off. Mr JWW proper petrol head
Which Caterham's model is it?
Do you think your GT3 would do better than 1:33 lap time ?
Is there an Ariel atom series?
That's good for what ails ya'.
Is "so good" your new new multi lingual catchphrase 😂
aero of a house brick or a brick house ?
how would it compare to a plus four in fun on public roads
Mph or kmh ?
When you say keep the car ...
Do you mean it’s now your car for ever
Or just while you are racing in the series ?
Love the outro song! Anyone know what it is?
what model caterham is it?
Caterham Academy car - entry level racing car
I’d rather have a street legal sprint car. Do they have sprint cars over there?
I've just bought a Mirra BMX, which I plan to campaign at skateparks throughout the UK.
:0)
John needs to activate his windows :)
Anyone knows the song in the outro???
@archiehamiltonracing - this is what you should be doing..... cheaper, more engaging and achievable.
I was really wondering, those figures can't be mph. until the analysis started. but still... 180 kph are quite fast in a thing that makes an e46 m3 looking chubby.
Will they let you drop a 13B into "your car"?
