congrats on your purchase, these are good cars, you will have to learn to fix it yourself, otherwise you will go broke. Anytime a mechanic hears "Mercedes" they triple the price... that's why a lot of these cars are neglected by their owners.

Excellent! I am hoping this can help me with mine. I also have 3 of 4 doors not soft closing. I there a air circuit diagram that shows where all the air posts go to? I also have no lumbar support working, or headlight levelling.
Thanks this video was really helpful. I had a few issues which I solved and during the process I introduced a new issue.1) My trunk would not close all the way. Even though it was "closed" you can clearly see a pretty large gap. at the end of the video you mentioned adjusting the lock. I followed your advice and the screws were just loose. I tightened it down and now it looks and feels closed. Thanks very much for that. I still have to slam my trunk down pretty firm before it catch's and sucks it closed but it looks much better. It's not the end of the world but I think it's suppose to work just by very lightly closing the lid. I have to close the trunk pretty hard. is there some other adjustment or what advise do you have for that?2) Now for some reason I cannot pop the trunk from my remote or the button inside the car. I have to press the button on the trunk. That's the only way it will open. did I disable something? when I press the button I do hear a noise coming from the rear seat like it wants to do something but the trunk never pops open. your advise is greatly appreciated.
hi. i dont think u have your trunk lock fixed, looks like u have a vacuum leak. the catch on the trunk lead should pull in when u close the lid and pop out when u open it . check the line that runs to the vacuum pump under the rear seat.
Hey, Thanks for that! My problem is that the trunk soft closure works 2 times and then stops. But all the other doors work... If I reinsert the fuse number 9 it again works 2 times and then stops... I tried manually pushing the soft closing frame and then when I press to open the trunk it releases everytime... So the problem is that it doesn't press itself after the second time. But the pump still works for the other doors... Isn't that weird? I was thinking is there any sensor that tells the pump to operate once the trunk is closed... May be that's my issue... But when you reset it it always works twice... Any ideas will be much appreciated. Thanks
I have a 92 500SEL with some weird trunk soft close behavior. The trunk still sucks itself closed, but the handle never worked. I tried replacing the handle with a junkyard one today that sealed and it still didn't work at all, but now my trunk will suck itself closed, and then after a few seconds it will release and sit loosely in the catch. Any ideas?
my rear headrest will not go down when I press the button on the dash but I do hear the motor running. I have a 1996 Mercedes Benz s320. Is this a vacuum problem and if so ho2 could I fix it. thank you for any information any can give.

Peter Griffin i think soft close is a standard function on w140 models. if non of the soft close functions work you might have a faulty Close assist pump. CA pymp is located in the trunk left from the fuel tank. first check the fuse. i thibk its fuse 9 in the fuse box located in the trunk on the right hand side.

Mr. Andy:I have a 98 S320 and have the same pse pump. My trunk closes half way, not all the way down so the trunk is not completely closed. If I pull the fuse no. 9, it will reset the pump and the trunk will close all the way for a couple of times. Then the problem comes out again. Do you know what is the problem? Please shot me some ideas.

look at the front of the seat cusion, there are 2 little handles near left and right doors. pull the handle and pull the seat cusion up. u can do. one side at the time.
Thanks I'll give it a try. Everything seems to work except I can't open the trunk from the key or button inside the car. I must press the button from the trunk. When I close the trunk it sucks the trunk closed and the handle disappears. Is it possible I disabled something? Earlier before watching your video I was playing around with some of the levers related to the trunk and trying to "manually" close the trunk. For a while I couldn't even close the trunk at all. Then I couldn't open it.
+Oleg Kaufman hmm. check the owner manual i recall seeing a section for trunk override...trunk lid liner has 2 square holes. i recall theres a way to override the lock if it doesnt work. maybe you have the lock set to manual
Hi! Great video but I was wondering..for some reason my W140..I have to slam the trunk lid shut the soft close will pull it down about 1/8" inch more. Since I have had the car the trunk soft close function does not work as it should do. If close the lid softly the latch does not engage and suck the lid down, I have to slam it. As I recall, if you need to reset the fuse it's due to a vacuum leak. Check your lines

get a hand vacuum pump and test all vacuum tubes, seems you have a leak

It looks to me you need to adjust the catch position, that's the one on the body, need to bring it up a bit.
How do you adjust it?
