I watched this video 2 years ago to replace my PSE Vacuum pump on my 2006 S500. I replaced it with a pump I bought on Ebay for $185, with the exact part number 220 800 11 48 [07] and it worked for 2 years before I had to replace it again. That one has now failed so I had to replace it again. They didn't have an 220 800 11 48 but I understand that going with a higher part number works and the only one that was higher was a 220 800 12 48 [06]. So a 12 can replace an 11. This one cost me $70 more than my first one, but it was the only one that was available at the time with a higher part number. It works now.
That sucks that it only lasted 2 years. Thats the reason I like to replace with new or remanufactured. However, this pump is just too expensive new that's why I did the whole eBay thing. Yes, from what I understand you can go with a newer pump (higher number), but not lower. The only way to make that work is a "proxy alignment". Not sure what that involves but it sounds expensive. I hope this one lasts a lot longer than the last one.
LOVE your organized work bench. The most important and critical part of any kind of repair comes down to your work space, tools, and being organized (Knowing where your tools are and having flexibility like short hand ratchet tools, extensions that are flexible, all the ETorx tools / sockets you need for mercedes, which for me has mainly been E10, E12, E16 sockets), and more
I wish I had more space. I try to make due with what I got. One thing I found is that the extension ratchet is irreplaceable for me and that I need better quality etorx bits. More and more cars are using these now, Mercedes used it 20 years ago. The new tool box however made a big difference for me. First time I had one that size. I love it.
I now know what my issue is after hearing your clicking noise. At first I thought my exhaust was banging on the underside. Great and helpful vid for me fixing W215 soft close etc.

Thanks for the video. I have an s600 my trunk isn't shutting and the soft door close also inop, yet my locks do go up and down. I wanted to comment on the black dust on the motor, it's the carbon electrodes at the stator to the armature are worn down, if you took the little motor apart and put in new brushes a few bucks. Harvest out of some home vacuum or find on ebay or something, they are often made of carbon and can be easily filed into shape. Keep up the good work.
Thank you. Yes I noticed when I blew the dust out I got a few more weeks of service before it finally completely died. On S600, maybe you got a leak in the hoses themselves? That pump operates locks and soft close. If the locks would have worked, I would have not changed the pump. But once the locks died I had no other choice. Disconnect the lines in the back. If you have a friend who vapes, blow some smoke into the system and see where it leaks. When I blew into the hoses with my mouth, I was able to lock the doors. My trunk hoses are bad and I do not have soft close there. Maybe one day in the future I’ll make a video of that, but it’s not on top of my priority. Thanks for watching and the kind words :)
I just bought my 06 S430 copart..... great car but im having the same issues.my air struts are shot and my PSE pump is shot also. great episode very helpful
Thanks for watching. We have a couple videos coming up for the Mercedes. We got lucky the last year, nothing broke ;) You'r car is in good condition. Needs a little of love but I bet you'll end up liking that one more than the BMW :)
Hi Daniel. My pump is dead. For now I can't find the exact pump with the same codes. It's for Mercedes w210 E-class saloon facelift HELLA Mercedes-Benz 2108001248 ( 07 ) What numbers in the pump need to be the same? I know that the ( 07 ) needs to be the same I think. I heard something about higher number or the same. If I get a pump with higher number and just replace it is it going to start right up or something with the car's computers needs to be changed? I'm not familiar. Thanks you for you amazing videos!!
Yes. That’s the number you gotta look for. Either same or higher is good. No reprogramming necessary. A lower number will not work. Be patient. if you order from eBay make sure they have a return policy just in case. I hope you get to work it out. Good luck!
@@Turbo_Snail i didn't understand fully which numbers... only the ( 07 ) can be the same or higher? So the number 2108001248 should be exactly the same? Or what. Sorry I'm not native 😀
E320 1998 almost got towed away because alarm kept going off. Police were nice enough to go knocking on doors to find the owner. Mine still opens and closes but . OK one of the back door mechanism wasn't working but I was ok with that. Then I was starting to notice more malfunctions with the locks. I also notice the light on the open/close switch is on. It's also been raining hard here. So now I have an idea of what the problem is. Time to fix it. Thank you so much.
Yup, sounds like a very familiar story. Time to swap it out. Read your label on your actual part first. I had to go through 3 before I figured it out. If you're no already on it, get on MBWorld.org
These are vacuum hoses. To detect a leak blow some smoke thru the lines. You’ll see where it escapes. A vaping friend could be helpful for once as well ;)
Hi, my dad's 2004 S430 has this PSE PUMP problem, I think. I'm trying to determine whether to test for a leak in a line (how do you tell where the smoke comes out if the lines are all inside the walls of the car?) or just replace the PSE Pump. I'm wondering if a leak is unlikely if the remote control and interior auto unlock buttons do not work for both the trunk and the car doors? Since there are multiple issues does that make a leak less likely? Also, I believe the yellow fuse is blown. To hear the clicking noise in the pump does the key have to be in the car or does the car have to be running? Finally, for the part number "220 800 xx 48" does the xx represent the year of the car? I thought it did until I see in the posts and also on pumps for sale on ebay that the xx does not seem to be the year of the car? So I have to get at that pump first to get the part number, specifically the xx numbers? Thanks!
Honestly you gotta have to diagnose one at a time. If you hear clicking you need a new pump. If you keep replacing the fuse, you need a new pump. If you have a line leak it will impact only whatever is connected to that line. There is a smoke machine for that purpose. You blow smoke in and eventually you see it coming out from behind a panel possible. Then you can take it apart and follow the smoke. Sealing a line shouldn’t be too hard. That being said, Mercedes from that vintage usually doesn’t have line problems but rather electrical. I would usually start diagnosing electrical stuff. In regards to the number, follow my instructions. Read more in the description. It must be the same or newer. Hope you get it sorted, good luck.
Yes. Someone on here told me that they bought another motor and rebuilt it. It was past my skill level however. Check the comments. It was interesting. Once the motor is burned out it needs replacement.
@@curlymyhero Yes eBay is full of them. If you go my route you have to match the numbers. From what I understand, if you can do it, you can swap the internal pump as long as you keep the electronics. Check that the pump is indeed burned out and not the electronics.
The parts are compatible I hear. The pump just needs to be coded to the car with merc software so it knows what options the car has. Im about to do the same thing.
Even though your locks didnt actuate, you still dont have to use the metal key. Lock the 3 non driver doors from the inside, roll down your driver's door, reach in and lock the drivers door, now point your fob at the infrared and push and hold the lock button on the fob. To unlock, do the opposite. The trunk is the biggest hassle.
Greetings to you and all of your followers. Hope you and all your love ones are well and safe during these tough times everyone is facing. I wanted to ask if this also applies to the S430 models?
I have my doors close once they are touching the body, hear some noise and trunk is also not working will try. Car was parked for ten years occasionally driven. Thanks
If you hear noise like air coming thru the motor probably works. You may just have a broken air line. My trunk is broken too but not worth the repair on this one.
There is a lot of misinformation in this video. PSe pumps need to be programmed for specific features of the car. Programming can be transferred with xentry from an old pump to a new pump if the circuit board of the old pump is not damaged. These are not plug and play. In this car he was lucky and got a pump that was from a similar model with exact options.
Thanks for your input. Yes, generally you have to program these to your vehicle. However, if you match the numbers as explained in the video it will work. Many people have done it, I personally have done 4 cars like that. That would be a lot of luck. It’s the easiest and simplest way to do it without getting expensive equipment or professionals involved. Other people choose to rebuild the pump which is another way to do it. What counts in the end is that it works, for cheap.
Very well explained, thanks!! I'm experiencing the same problem with the exception of the fuse is good and did not blow - Do you think it's the PSE pump much like yours? Which forum are you referring to.
Mbworld.org. There is a lot of info. I use it for research before I get into a major (for me) project. Open up the PSE pump covers and listen to what it does when you try to operate.
Did you think that coding/programming with the SDS to your vehicle will be necessary? Some discussions on MBWorld and Benzworld about it - all too confusing!
If you buy a pump that is a different model number you have to code it to the car, too expensive. It took me 3 weeks to find mine with the same part number and I didn’t have to do any coding. Just be patient and get the same part number. It’s well worth the little extra effort.
on the R170 this can cause tons opf issues- alarm going off randomly. Wont stay locked. Can't lock/unlock CLS and then you can't open your gas! or you cqan't open your ccenter console. Dome light stops working... The top won't go up or down properly. Probably other potential issues but I've had all of them.
Yes, I’ve been made aware that you can just replace the pump. But it is important to keep the electronics if you do that. For me, if I had to do it again, I would just replace the whole unit again rather than taking things apart and mess with the motor and electronics. There really isn’t a price difference between one and the other.
If you know how to deal with the electronics and can replace a brand new motor, that’s the best way to do it. I wasn’t brave enough to attempt such a swap.
Not sure. Make sure the numbers match, watch the video for more info. But I doubt they are interchangeable. Just the S class alone had a different pump within the same year.
It was an eBay item. So the link wouldn’t work anymore. When you buy the part look on eBay and type in the part number. I think I searched for “PSE pump W220”. You gotta make sure the number matches. Very important! Good luck.
Can't remember off hand. Check under the right passenger seat. There are not that many. Go in with a flash light, its fairly easy to find. If you replace it and it pops again, thats exactly what I had going on.
@@Turbo_Snail Yessir. I saw that part in the video. I guess I need to pull it out and see what the part number says. Thanks for the video. Very informative.
I removed my black pse case, hear like a loose screw or something inside, but I've tried really hard and I cannot pull the plastic casing apart to look inside!
Great video thank you very much unfortunately I didn't find it until after ID paid a garage to do exactly to know how to reset or override the sensor that tells me the boot is open (which it definitely isn't ) as they have returned the car to me with that fault and because the car thinks the boot is open I can no longer put the roof down thank you
oh man, that really blows. You would think they would know better. Try to get hands on the original pump that was in there or ask Mercedes directly, maybe it's possible, so you still do a correct swap.
Hey so the soft close mechanism works on my doors. My trunk doesn't open with the button inside the car as well as by the key button. I can hear something moving, but it doesn't do anything. I can open it manually with the key itself. I don't know what the problem is? Is it the fuse? The latch? Or is it the PSE pump starting to go bad but hasnt failed yet?
If the Doors work, the pump works. Sounds like just the mechanism in the trunk failed. Does the flap come out when you manually open the trunk? You may have to Canibalize that part from another car. Not sure how hard it is to replace it. But it looks like it’s a complete assembly that goes into the trunk lid.
Sound like you got a leak in the trunk mechanism. Your pump is good but the air leak in the trunk may burn out your pump if you don’t take care of it. I never replaced that part. I took the shroud off to look but you are looking at a whole assembly. If you suspect a leak other than that, take apart the pump. Get a friend who smokes or vapes and have him blow smoke thru the lines. If there is a leak, it will come out places it shouldn’t. You can also get a smoke machine which is a couple hundred dollars, but really, what have the vapers been practicing for all this time. Good luck mate!
Thanks for sharing!I have a problem but only with my driver door, something pupped in the door and since then everytime the door tries to close you can hear a noise in the door trying to close it for a few seconds than stopes but the door still don't close. The rest of the doors and trunk work fine, any suggetions?
I got the same problem on the driver door. The mechanism in the door is broken. Not sure I want to tackle it yet but I’ll get to it eventually. I haven’t found an easy/cheap solution yet that works other than getting a used unit from eBay.
@nuka2g1 I never fixed the door. You gotta buy a whole assembly. It’s made out of plastic and is a common issue. It’ll eventually learn that it doesn’t work and it won’t operate that door anymore until you disconnect the battery again.
Thanks for the vid! I got W140 and soft closure function doesn't work. Currently I'm trying to watch various videos related to pumps to better understand this stuff. PS: Victor from NJ (RestoreYourMercedes) may help with rebuilding pumps though Idk his pricing. I see autohausaz sells my pump for around $230 which is a remanufactured part.
I'd get a remanufactured part over a used one. I bought mine on eBay and you seen the process. You get an old part. If you have a choice, go for remanufactured. A new pump is just ridiculous and not necessary.
@@Turbo_Snail Thank you! I agree with you on the remanufactured pumps. Unlike eBay ones reman pumps also come with some warranty. But first I need to figure out if I only need to replace the pump or pumps (I have two) or there is also a leak or leaks somewhere. If there is a leak it will put too much stress on a new pump and the replacement pump may soon become a paperweight.
Yeah that’s true. You can get a smoke machine. Disconnect the pump and blow smoke thru it. If you see smoke escape, you know you have a leak. If you vape, that would work too. Or find a friend who vapes ;)
You probably have a broken line. Get a smoke machine, connect it to each line in the trunk and pump smoke through. You’ll eventually see what panel it’s coming out from the take that apart and voila. Smoke machines can be rented. Not every auto part store has them but I’ve seen them at O’Reilly before.
there is cheaper and much better way to repair this failure. The reason pneumatic pump stopped working and behavior are typical , inside the module there is electric motor and attached vacuum module with graphite rotator and blades. With time, graphite is weared out , and around every 200 000 km it start breaking apart, and finally lock the possibility of rotation, ti is easy to repair. Clicking sound is the engine trying to move , but physically locked and freezed by broken graphite rotor. All you need to do is replace the graphite rotor and graphite blades bought for about 60$ as "w220 central lock repair kit". That guarantee another 200 000 km of work, unlike buying another used module, which can break after few houndred uses. There is also another typical failure, after about 600 000km , the brushes inside electrical motor need to be replaced then . It is also simple repair ,and cost even less money. Module that you bought is probably already regenerated, it has been serviced and probably has changed graphite elements - that suggest a sticker on a side.
My CL the pump works but I'm getting some electrical issues, I fixed the wiring in the drivers door, it could be wiring in the body or perhaps the motor. I'll get there eventually put its a pain as I can't lock my car at the moment.
Oh man that blows. Are you sure it’s electrical. How did you test the pump? Is it just one door that doesn’t lock or all of them. Maybe one of the hoses cracked and won’t allow to produce a vacuum. You can blow some smoke thru the hoses and see if it escapes somewhere. I hope you find the issue.
No. The pump either works or it doesn’t. Maybe a line is cut or one of the 2 blocks (as seen in the video) got somehow disconnected or cracked. I doubt that tho. My vacuum for the trunk is bad (line leak) and 1 door doesn’t work (mechanism broke). That may be another video but those parts are very expensive so I have been procrastinating. That is one part you don’t want to get the cheap knockoff as they have been known to be very bad quality.
I don't think you needed to replace the entire pump. The rotor in the pump motor normal breaks and causes the fuse to blow. All that was needed was a new rotor.
Where can I find information if I want to open the pump and try to repair it? Are there any pics or how-to's? Can I get more information about the rotor you're talking about please?
I was I formed by a few viewers that this was possible. I haven’t researched it, but MBworld.org has a ginormous forum with tons of knowledge. That being said, I can’t imagine a motor being cheaper than a refurb or used unit from eBay.
I have this same problem, the only thing is everything works the only thing is i just cant unlock the car, when i manually unlock the doors i can lock it with the key fob, i can unlock the trunk with the key fob, i just cant unlock the doors with the key fob. theres no clicking coming from the pump like yours, i can hear the pump trying when i click the unlock button but no unlock, do you have any suggestions?
in could be that one of your pneumatic lines are punctured or broken. You could disconnect the lines, blow some smoke through it and see where it comers out and seal it. If it's not clicking, you probably won't need another motor there.
Hello Repairing my cl500 in Estonia and l have a problem with vacuum. Trunk opens and closes from the button like it should as the massage seats work also. But l have a problem with central lock, softclose , rear curtain( wich is up and dont go down) and the backseat headrests are up and dont go down. Do you know or have a guess what should be the problem for these malfunctions?
Sounds like your PSE pump is dead. Use the video as a reference it will fix your issue. The seats use a different system. The PSE takes care of the soft close doors and trunk, central locking system and it releases the headrests. Some people had good success parting out that box and replacing the insides, I would get a refurbished unit if I had to do it again but a used one should work just as well.
Respectfully, you must be kidding. For it is possible to get just the motor you attempted to blow out for $50 to $100 on eBay or even a complete motor with the turbine for a little more without replacing the whole black box called "pump." The replacement of the motor is fairly straightforward.
@@Turbo_Snail It is not so and I think there is a misunderstanding. There is no "gutting of the motor" whatsoever. You just remove the red and the black wire from the motor and push the pressure and the vacuum hose off the motor.
Hi there. Does it also affect the alarm ? My alarm does not go on and it shows the car flashing but no sounds comeon. This started after changing the battery. Is there anything i must do to reset the pump or i must purchase a new one?
This should have nothing to do with the alarm. As I understand there is a separate horn for the alarm. Ours has never worked. We’re not planing on replacing it either.
@@Turbo_Snail I was suspecting the same. The Mercedes dealership is charging an arm and a leg for this . I am looking for the manual so that I can troubleshoot and hopefully fix it myself . I have all the disassemble tools and would like to make it a DIY project
Why when you had the pump out, you didn't you find which component is leaking air? You will be spending another $200 in a couple weeks, unless you just spend $35 and replace that motor that will keep burning up also in 2 weeks. Your seat air bladders probably leaking and are causing your pump motor to run constantly. Disconnect them and block them off, probably along with those door close actuators if you can shut them without them. This might just be your problem.
Thanks for your concern, however, if the car detects that a zone is running too long without a confirmation of a door closure for example, the car will then shut off that zone to prevent pump damage. That being said. This video is now over a year old and the pump is pumping just fine. The pump was old, 15 years old to be exact. Parts wear out. I've seen cars with 10 years on them and all components work, yet the pump just had it. The only zone that leaks is the trunk and that shut itself off the same day we installed the pump. Now we don't have soft close on the trunk anymore. Not worth fixing to be honest. If you have the MBII computer, you can go in there and reactivate any zone that has been shut down manually. Or, just disconnect the battery for about 10 minutes... after reconnect they should all come alive again. Happy wrenching!
The reason these pumps go out is because of a vacuum leak/leaks. These w220's are notorious for door actuators failing. Listen for vacuum leaks inside the doors or trunk.
Yes. That’s correct. A simple leak develops and then the pump runs until it times out. I guess it overheats and eventually just dies. We could hear ours operating for a while until it finally broke. The funny thing is, once we changed the pump the leak cured itself. Maybe it was the pump that was leaking after all.
What did the working pump cost ? My S320 pump motor burnt and damaged the circuit.. My part number is 1408002548. My car is 1994. I replaced the pump, but it failed. any suggestions.
Buying a used pump is like rolling the dice. It’s still used. Just get another one and hopefully you’re more lucky. I found mine on eBay. I can’t remember maybe $100-150? It’s been a while but all still works.
Mines gone on my sl350. Had mine out found burned out wires on the motor flixed that put it all back in still not working. I’m guna have to buy a new pump. Cheapest ones are £400 and that’s second which I’d rather not. Mercedes are absolute headaches
Oh man. Sorry to hear about your troubles. Search eBay. You should be able to score one cheap. Just be patient. I know it sucks not having that part working but your patience will be rewarded. It took me almost 2 months and I thing 3 tries. Mine was quoted new I think $800 just for the part.

Merci beaucoup jeun homme 👏👏👏😊😊 thanks for information
I hope it helped. Best greetings!
Great job
Thank you!
Appreciate your effort man
I appreciate that!
Good job bro ❤
Thank you!
If you change the pump do you have to re program the pump
No. I never had to reprogram anything. Pay attention to the numbers.
Great job!
Thanks.
Thank you
Thanks for watching
Thanks man! I've got same problem. I know this will help. Excellent job!
Make sure you get the matching part number or it may not work correctly. Good luck!🍀
Also for r230 2003 SL ???
If it’s pneumatic it’s probably similar.
Nicely done man.
Thanks. It was a pain.... and it took forever to get that done.
Thank you very much for this videos on the w220. This car auddenly turns in to a rabit hole.
But when she runs…… she’s amazing.
It's for Mercedes w210 E-class saloon facelift
HELLA Mercedes-Benz 2108001248 ( 07 )
What numbers in the pump need to be the same?
Yes correct.
Excellent. Are these yellow lines "vacuum hoses" or "electrical connection"?
Thanks.
These are vacuum hoses. To detect a leak blow some smoke thru the lines. You’ll see where it escapes. A vaping friend could be helpful for once as well ;)
@@Turbo_Snail Excellent. Thanks for your kind reply. Keep it up..
Thanks! for the video is very helpfully. I have same problem, Now I know
Good luck. Make sure you match your numbers.
@@Turbo_Snail ok, Thanks!
Great video! But can't that little motor b sent out, rebuilt or replaced off ebay??
Yes. Someone on here told me that they bought another motor and rebuilt it. It was past my skill level however. Check the comments. It was interesting. Once the motor is burned out it needs replacement.
@@Turbo_Snail Thx 4 replying but I'll look on ebay for that little motor. I bet they're 4 sale!
@@curlymyhero Yes eBay is full of them. If you go my route you have to match the numbers. From what I understand, if you can do it, you can swap the internal pump as long as you keep the electronics. Check that the pump is indeed burned out and not the electronics.
Awesome video sir. Could you tell me what size fuse and its location in the fuse box cheers
Unfortunately, we don't have the car anymore. She drowned in the last hurricane. Check MBWorld.org
Did you try getting the motor rewound .,there are some engineers that could in fact do the job.
Nah. Wasn’t worth the trouble for me. I wouldn’t know where to start.
KOOL MAN GOOD JOB .🤗👍👍👍🐰🐰🐰👽⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thanks 👍
Thanks for the Info.
You bet! I hope it helps!
What year was your car?
2004 model S500.
The parts are compatible I hear. The pump just needs to be coded to the car with merc software so it knows what options the car has. Im about to do the same thing.
Let me know how it turns out!
@@Turbo_Snail will do, coding is always a whole other learning curve lol. Great content, thanks.
Thank you!
Yeah, it’s more convenient when it actually works. Didn’t cost too much anyways.
Greetings to you and all of your followers. Hope you and all your love ones are well and safe during these tough times everyone is facing. I wanted to ask if this also applies to the S430 models?
Yes. Same procedure on all S models of that type.
Did you have to reprogram it at all some people say it is part of the ring. The interface between the ignition power steering lock and computer
No, I did not have to reprogram it.
You gotta get the equal or newer version. You can't go with an older version than your car was originally coded to.
Great video Thanks
Thanks for watching
I came across the replacement motor for that pump. I don’t know it you seen that.
No I didn’t. You got a link?
was wondering if S class pse pump works for SL500 r230 .. i dont know why the SL r230 PSE pump still so expensive!
I can’t say if it would fit. Does the pump look the same? Also, what is the part number?
Not sure. Make sure the numbers match, watch the video for more info. But I doubt they are interchangeable. Just the S class alone had a different pump within the same year.
Can you share the link of the place you purchased the working part please.
It was an eBay item. So the link wouldn’t work anymore. When you buy the part look on eBay and type in the part number. I think I searched for “PSE pump W220”. You gotta make sure the number matches. Very important! Good luck.
Hey mate, exactly which fuse is it? Can you help by sharing this information. Thanks, Kris
Can't remember off hand. Check under the right passenger seat. There are not that many. Go in with a flash light, its fairly easy to find. If you replace it and it pops again, thats exactly what I had going on.
I need to get one of those replacement pumps. Probably the same one for my 2005 S430. Can you share the information for the part number you purchased?
It’s in the video. Check the description as well. It depends on what your part number is. They made so many changes over the years.
@@Turbo_Snail Yessir. I saw that part in the video. I guess I need to pull it out and see what the part number says. Thanks for the video. Very informative.
the lower that number is the more options you have.
I removed my black pse case, hear like a loose screw or something inside, but I've tried really hard and I cannot pull the plastic casing apart to look inside!
I remember it was hard. Remember, that thing was closed for 20+ years. It's sealed to conceal the noise, just crack it open.
@@Turbo_Snail the flap does come out some times but sometimes it looks like it is then goes back in.
Did you ever do a video on fixing this problem within the door? I have this same issue right now. Please link if you did? Thanks!
@nuka2g1 I never fixed the door. You gotta buy a whole assembly. It’s made out of plastic and is a common issue. It’ll eventually learn that it doesn’t work and it won’t operate that door anymore until you disconnect the battery again.
@@Turbo_Snail thanks for the response!
What anout a centar lacking pump?
?!? Not sure what you're trying to say here!
@@Turbo_Snail "I need to smoke up my benz" lol
I have a 1998 S500 W140, and I can't get into my trunk even with the key. Any idea how I can get into my truck..
you can get in through your trunk. There is a key hole there. Look underneath where your handle is.
Mine is working but no trunk no soft close on doors opening where should I look next
Love the write up. Where were you when I did the video?
@@Turbo_Snail probably figuring out something, not yet recorded :) maybe someone will use the know-how and save one more merc from scrap.
Hello my friend, do you will sell broken pump?
My CL the pump works but I'm getting some electrical issues, I fixed the wiring in the drivers door, it could be wiring in the body or perhaps the motor. I'll get there eventually put its a pain as I can't lock my car at the moment.
Oh man that blows. Are you sure it’s electrical. How did you test the pump? Is it just one door that doesn’t lock or all of them. Maybe one of the hoses cracked and won’t allow to produce a vacuum. You can blow some smoke thru the hoses and see if it escapes somewhere. I hope you find the issue.
Would this be the cause of my locking system preventing the top from coming down?
I think your top may be controlled by a hydraulic system if it’s on the SL. It would be a hydraulic pump in your case.
Awesome!
Thanks, it was a pain to get the right one but now that I understand why, it's easy. I hope it cut a lot of guess work out for viewers.
My door locks and headrest works however, my vacuum for doors and trunk doesn't. Can the pump partially work?
Yeah, I didn’t figure that out until after it was done. However, I didn’t have to take it apart.
Hello
Repairing my cl500 in Estonia and l have a problem with vacuum.
That is true. And if you’re more comfortable gutting the motor I would say do that. It was easier for me to just not have to deal with it.
@@Turbo_Snail It is not so and I think there is a misunderstanding. There is no "gutting of the motor" whatsoever. You just remove
the red and the black wire from the motor and push the pressure and the vacuum hose off the motor.
Please share your results. I use MBworld.org as a great source of information. These guys are very knowledgeable.
@@Turbo_Snail thank you. I shall do that as soon as i get the information and solution

You’re welcome. Hope it helped.
Is it the same part# for s500 1999
No. Pull your pump out and check the part number. Every year is different. Sometimes they had several different part numbers within the year.
@@Turbo_Snail its for my buddy car I saw his driver door work but the other ones no its kind not the same symptoms
Could be a busted line. Maybe a leak. Blow some smoke through. You’ll see it coming out of the plastic lines are cracked.
I HAVE A 2003 SL 500 AND I WAS QUOTED $ 1845. TO FIX THE PSE PUMP THIS WHY THE CONVERIBLE WONT WORK

Oh man. Sorry to hear about your troubles. Search eBay. You should be able to score one cheap. Just be patient. I know it sucks not having that part working but your patience will be rewarded. It took me almost 2 months and I thing 3 tries. Mine was quoted new I think $800 just for the part.
