I heard one of these on a side street in Washington, D.C, as I sat on a park bench nearby near infrequent, normal Saturday morning neighborhood driving. The driver was not showboating, and it still completely caught me off guard. The sound hype is real...
You can really see the design influence the LFA had over later Lexus models that is still being carried on, very cool cars and one of the best sounding ever. The concept of there being channels for the engine sound to come into the cabin by Yamaha engineers is simple compared to speakers that pump the sound in but a much better solution.
The Focus ST "Sound Symposer" was a similar concept, using a diaphragm on the intake and piping that sound into the cabin, with an electric shutoff to stop it from droning when you're putting around. People rip it out on the regular but its hilarious the similar concept is praised on the LFA.

Lexus LFA fun fact: The wail at 9,000 rpms has caused more shorts to be creamed than having a private room at Score's or Cheetah's with their A level "dancers" working solo on you.
This and the Porsche Carrera GT are my two "won the lottery" cars. I would waste no time buying one of each if I suddenly ran into tens of millions of dollars.
This is a car that will never, ever get old for anyone. I used to work at a Lexus dealership in Ontario. At the time, there were 3 LFAs in the province. One day, we had two of them in one day for a service. I'm not one for fawning over a car at a shop, or meet, or dealership or anything like that. But the symphony of sound that played....that sweet, succulent sound.
OF COURSE Mr. Regular gets to drive LFA number 69. It's destiny! Edit: For something like this, I do also dig how Roman busts out the guitar lol. It's so nice
It's like they were drunk when they decided to make the LFA then took a shot everytime the accountants complained - then sobered up when they tried making the LC500 and realized they were more fun when they still drank lol
The LFA is so interesting to me because you can still see the design ideas that were put into similar model year Lexus, but at an almost unlimited budget. I’d be interested to see what designers from other ordinary brands would do with a similar budget.
I loved how this was filmed in Northern California. I recognized the roads immediately. Awesome LFA review. Encapsulating the essence of a car that was so underappreciated when new, and now admired for it's tech, history, and driving feel. Ya'll lucky to have reviewed such a gem.

I think this was the best outro I’ve listened to from Regular Cars. Thank you for such beautiful words, and combining my 2 passions of cars and writing so beautifully. It genuinely gave me an emotional reaction like no other car related video. This is like if a Road & Track writer had a drink with Joey Coco Diaz and they cooked up a video together, it’s so beautiful It’s hard to not get sucked into the money machine, I’m a struggling mechanical engineering student working too much. I’m trying to find the balance between having time for school and to get out there and live, and money. Life is intoxicating, I enjoy my life now and wish I could do more of the things that make me enjoy my life again but it’s hard. Thank god the semester is almost over. But I’ll surely be taking summer classes if I (most likely) don’t get accepted to any internships. I’ll do my best to separate the pursuit of money from the pursuit of happiness. I already have the car that makes me enjoy driving as much an an LFA, so that helps a lot :)
Fantastic review RCR! I also love the fact that it’s obvious whoever owns this LFA drives and uses it regularly. LFAs should be regularly exercised and shared with the world! 👍🏼
what are you talking about. it has 9912 miles on the clock (9:07). i put more miles on a corolla after ten months of owning it. it's "used regularly" in the sense that it isn't kept in storage as an investment but it isn't *used* regularly.
I was so hyped to see you driving up Monticello road! I used to live up in those mountains and learned to drive on that road. 15 years later those are still my absolute favorite roads to drive on, every now and then I make the trip back up there just to get in an awesome day of driving. Hope you had a great time up there! Bonus fact: much of that area was burnt to a crisp in the 2017 Napa fires, but it's all grown back now!
That weird seat belt buckle is because of the inflatable airbag belt. In a crash, the belt itself will deploy an airbag from within to aid in safety. Ford has been using these for 2nd row passengers in higher trim Explorers and F150s for a few years now
I always kind of thought the MX-5 filled a similar role of being fun for the sake of fun. I suppose they accounted their way into the interior buttons and whatnot, but still ... designed to be fun to drive and that's about it.

@@michaelfjmusic I don't mean to be contrarian. And I agree Gordon Murray makes brilliant cars. I just think the products are overrated in my personal opinion. I get the appeal and "old school" design philosophy. But it just doesn't give me the same wow factor as comparably engineered supercars from the early to mid 2000s
My 2011 4Runner has the same hood release as the LFA. Now, I'm going to tell people my 4Runner shares parts with the LFA. No one will care or even know what an LFA is, but I'm still gonna do it.
Happy to say I’ve been lucky enough to have a race driver take me around a track in Brisbane in one of these. Probably one of the most insane experiences ever. The noise and heat coming into the cabin from it being pushed to its absolute limit is something I’ll never forget.
The things I would do to get that experience
Lucky dog.
That's one to tell the grandkids every time they come over
I don’t care what anyone else thinks about the LFA, this is my holy grail.
"BUY A MUG WIN THIS CAR" never wanted to hear these words so bad in my life
it's funny how I'm genuinely happy that Mr. Regular got to drive the illustrious LFA, great video and good for him
Lexus LFA fun fact: The wail at 9,000 rpms has caused more shorts to be creamed than having a private room at Score's or Cheetah's with their A level "dancers" working solo on you.
This is the weirdest comment I've read in a long while.
@sandman6088 What can I say...the LFA encourages normally sane and mundane people to become crazed maniacs half baked on meth and biker speed.
Cheetah’s in Windsor?🤔
It isn't true because only few bought it and even fewer redline it, so number of "creamed shorts" is basically irrelevant
This and the Porsche Carrera GT are my two "won the lottery" cars. I would waste no time buying one of each if I suddenly ran into tens of millions of dollars.
Mr. Regular driving Lexus LFA number 69 (nice) is truly a big moment for RCR!
The fact that you and fred are friends makes me happier than it should
Finest machine to ever exist. Not peak Toyota, but peak car. Well done, guys.
This is what the new Supra should have been, a fat GT car with 500hp plus from stock, the A90 is a joke big time
@@AnthroGearheadcould’ve would’ve should’ve, the Mk5 could not exist and you would still complain
@@brammachu725 sorry, i just cant forgive Toyota on being lazy there
@@AnthroGearhead Toyota wasn’t lazy BMW came to them a they took the offer
@@AnthroGearhead You should drive one, your opinion would change if you sat in the driver's seat at least once.
I normally skip the sponsor ads most RUclipsrs do, never on rcr.
My favourite Japanese car of all-time and one of my favourite "regular" cars too
It's like they were drunk when they decided to make the LFA then took a shot everytime the accountants complained - then sobered up when they tried making the LC500 and realized they were more fun when they still drank lol
Nice.
Edit: was not expecting to hear an old friendly voice like Fred today. Down the rabbit hole has always been an incredible channel.
Best crossover
The LFA is so interesting to me because you can still see the design ideas that were put into similar model year Lexus, but at an almost unlimited budget. I’d be interested to see what designers from other ordinary brands would do with a similar budget.
I loved how this was filmed in Northern California. I recognized the roads immediately. Awesome LFA review. Encapsulating the essence of a car that was so underappreciated when new, and now admired for it's tech, history, and driving feel. Ya'll lucky to have reviewed such a gem.
I was recently in northern california and made a stop at Muir woods and the muir shore point over look (or whatever its called). Was that the same winding road to the overlook? More likely, a lot of northern california roads are like that lol
@@bigdavey8863 definitely around near Muir woods and between Napa Valley some roads are definitely like that others are long and sweeping. Most definitely a car enthusiast driving pleasure.
@@G3n3ralN0ns3ns3 It's Monticello Rd./121HWY heading east out of Napa.

"I could reach the speed I wanted at any moment"
He gets it.. he really does.
Equally as fun to me as “professional car-guy reviews regular cars” is “regular non-car-guy reviews best cars of all time” this was a fun episode for many reasons. ❤
dude, i just found the million billion dollar franchise: Drive'mAround
Driv'mAround is about driving old people around and while riding with them talk with them to keep their brain working, thats money by the mile
From a quick googling, the light looking thing on the seat belt buckle is an inflator for the seatbelt mounted airbag. Wired has an article on it.
I think you're vastly underselling Weird Mouse, IT'S A VIRTUAL WORLD YOU CAN TOUCH AND FEEL
Never thought I’d see the words “regular car” and “LFA” together but here we are
I needed to hear the end of this video. Thanks.
So so stoked for RCR. They deserve to review this.
The ending was beautiful. Thank you RCR.
It was really interesting hearing about the car from the perspective of someone who isn’t a car guy. I feel like anyone with any real interest in cars has hyped it up beyond imagination, so hearing that it’s the real deal from someone outside that bubble really helps show how special it really is.
I love how there's a billion tech specs, insane POV videos that "could be", and just wild, wild sound bites... And the largest chunk of the video is about the click the mouse makes. THAT is RCR. You guys are the best
I came seeing that title. I see you wearing that yellow flannel, Mr. Regular. 10/10 MELON APPROVED
Came here for a amazing car review, wasn't expecting to leave with tears. That ending hit hard, didn't know i needed to hear that, but thank you
“…It a novelty, what passes for innovation these days.”
This sentence brilliantly sums up the whole of the modern automobile industry today.
Man I’m jealous. You know you’ve made it when get to sit in AND drive one of these. Mechanical and Musical at the same time. Great review guys.
I’m kind of loving that the CD was 182 and the camera car is 812
Fun fact about the seatbelt, it has a built in airbag. Also that infotainment system was in my dads 2012 lexus, and when you start/stop the car, it straightens the mousepad. Love little things like that
This was old school RCR blended perfectly with your ever evolving style. Great vid!
A truly sensual experience... yes, Mr Regular, _explore every surface._
The new camry looks wild
The car equivalent of constantly delaying a video game so that when it eventually releases, it's perfect in every way.
The Animal Crossing New Horizons of cars, or is ACNH the Lexus LFA of video games? 🤔
3 minutes in and it's a legendary review already.
I think this was the best outro I’ve listened to from Regular Cars. Thank you for such beautiful words, and combining my 2 passions of cars and writing so beautifully. It genuinely gave me an emotional reaction like no other car related video. This is like if a Road & Track writer had a drink with Joey Coco Diaz and they cooked up a video together, it’s so beautiful
It’s hard to not get sucked into the money machine, I’m a struggling mechanical engineering student working too much.
Ahh yes, you managed to get the chance to review the most beautiful sounding car, and one of the most rarest production cars too....
Hey! I know that street at @2:31 thats my neck of the woods. RCR fan since you had your Echo, now you're driving an LFA! What a story arch!
The supercar of once in a lifetime
From the back it looks like a robot from the first two Descent games and I think that's wonderful.
Fantastic review RCR! I also love the fact that it’s obvious whoever owns this LFA drives and uses it regularly. LFAs should be regularly exercised and shared with the world! 👍🏼
That goes for all cool cars, let them run and do what they were meant to do- especially the special ones😃👍
And listens to Blink 182 in it
what are you talking about. it has 9912 miles on the clock (9:07). i put more miles on a corolla after ten months of owning it. it's "used regularly" in the sense that it isn't kept in storage as an investment but it isn't *used* regularly.
Missed an opportunity for a Blink182 style song at the end.
JFC. You hit the jackpot with this one.
We'll never ever hear a better sounding engine.
My Toyota Matrix has the same hood release as an LFA...
I knew my lil' dude was a supercar!
If you listen very carefully you can hear Mr Regular busting in his pants throughout the duration of the video
I remember seeing a red one of these for the first time while I was deployed in Canada with the USMC. I WANT ONE SO BADLY
That final monolog is something i needed to hear. Thank you
That weird seat belt buckle is because of the inflatable airbag belt. In a crash, the belt itself will deploy an airbag from within to aid in safety. Ford has been using these for 2nd row passengers in higher trim Explorers and F150s for a few years now
To think RCR began with the review of a Toyota Echo, to now the latest review being the golden chalice of Toyota engineering.
I always kind of thought the MX-5 filled a similar role of being fun for the sake of fun. I suppose they accounted their way into the interior buttons and whatnot, but still ... designed to be fun to drive and that's about it.
1.3 million dollars and it still gets out accelerated by an SV 650.
I can't quite get that out of my head....
Until you hear it. God damn. It sounds so good.
Other car youtubers LFA intros: “the Lexus LFAs V10, as audibly tuned by Yamaha, etc etc”
RCR: “IM A GAYSHA”
This is the hard hitting notes I subscribe for
I know it's a bit silly to have this connection with the end of this video, but finding a niche in fandom stuff has been something that filled that void I didn't know existed. And your description of something existing for its own sake is a reason I enjoy it so much.
We've hit the holy grail...where else do we go with this?!
wow . never expected to see this car here . also the first manscaped ad ive ever willingly sat thru , so good job mister
One of the strangest, funniest, best car reviews I have seen in RUclips. Thank you!
One of the best toyotas ever created hands down
Best Manscaped pitch I've ever heard. Those were persuasive sales points. Give this man more money.
Yamaha, making music with instruments and engines. ❤
Unironically, this car has the greatest sounding engine of any street legal car ever made
