  • Sneak peak of the new reverse loop In operation, Raill fanning the NHRR.
Continuing to get caught up on content from last year. Plus new 2022 content.
Got a fire truck from an antique store. So I made a small burnt up scene for it.
From last year we got the reverse loop started on the lower staging yard. At the end of the video you will see a train run down to the staging yard and go through part of that loop.
My son wanted to come out and work on the train layout. I Handed him a bag of people and cows. And he went to town.
Jim makes more plans for the cow field on the standard gauge layout.
Be sure to be safe with fire. They're, I told you so.
    Thanks for watching.
    Model train layout update 124.

Good to see another video. Making good progress on the staging yard. Good to see that your son also helps working on the layout. Still need to do shirts. LOL

Looking so good. If it matters, the “brown” cows look like “Herefords.” They are raised for beef. The “black and white” cows are “Holsteins.” They are dairy cattle. You could make a cool dairy farm scene with a milking barn and some big, stainless steel, tanks next to it. Dairy cattle are typically kept in large corrals. Just a thought. Love see your son involved.

I missed it on video but my son had said that the cows produced chocolate milk.

Just cherish those moments you spend with your dad. My dad taught me everything and I miss him dearly. Cheers from eastern TN

An 18 minute video that took me 12 hours to watch.
    Slowly slowly getting there.
Keep up the good work. :)

Any chance you will share where the antique store is? There is something in that display case I have been looking for for sometime.

It is close. If I get around to it I will try to check. My guess is that it is brass.

@@ModelRailroading I know exactly what it is, which is why i ask. ;)

Went back to the antique store today. They are asking $595 for that car. The person that owns it was not there. I do not know the brand. But I'm sure it is brass. It was heavy. And well detailed. Also not sure if they do shipping.

@@ModelRailroading Thanks! That is right around market, possibly a little on the high end - especially if there is no box.
The model is a Southern Pacific 3/4 Dome Car. Only ever offered in brass. Mostly likely produced by "The Coach Yard" but also could be a SoHo. I already have 2 unpainted brass shells - prob's keep my money for those projects.

    Hay Don 2.0,
About your shopping in an antiques store. Though they may have an easy to find selection of items they will always be high priced. I recommend you check out the charity/church thrift shops. Many have the same items for a much lower price. Also as you float about the shop there are things you may have wanted without knowing it exists I have found stuff that is normally not used for modeling. Which when I get it in to the workshop, I retro engineer it into a scenic element. And some of the stuff is a higher end value than at the antique store. All the items in these thrift shops are donated by generous donors. Sold to assist the charity with financing it's social mandate. And bought by me (you) to save money on our Model RxRing budget. WIN, WIN, WIN.
As an example I bought the entire 28 car America's Bicentennial Freedom Train for $80.00 It was valued by a WELL KNOWN N.Y.C. auction house at $10+K complete with props. I kept it.
Your idea of torching natural items for scenic material is a great idea. I am going to start doing that to my forest when I begin working on the Great Smokey Mountains section of my new expansion.
Lastly, is your son Don 3.0 or just his own rebooted RxR.Sys.?
Nice to see the hands of time are on the right track.
    Jim

My Wife did not want to name him Don 3.0. It was getting confusing. He actually would have been 4.0 if we did.
