Great to see the sentiments of such as Sir Roger Scruton carried on and articulated so persuasively. As a New Zealander I've been watching for decades, first-hand over successive visits as well as remotely via the tech, the inexorable crumbling of the British culture, in its many forms. It's voices like Ms Webb's that give me hope it may yet muddle through.

The culture of anyone now living in the uk must be embraced, honoured and celebrated, but those of the english must be modernised. But if course, when they say modernised what they really mean is: torn down, wiped clean, laughed at, belittled.

She’s a breath of fresh air, pure English 🌹, so lovely hearing and seeing more lasses like this, it’s time we changed this country for the better, we are a people and civilisation that need to collectivise and stand up, or we will
Loose our country , mass immigration, demographics and the constant anti white and anti western attacks from Marxists, it’s more than just the left of woke culture, it’s a total destruction of our society, we can rebuild it and can change the future but we have to do it asap in every way, having more children , nuclear family and putting a traditional normal and healthy up bringing and society like how we used to. 🇬🇧

      Morris dancing?
      Going to church?
Hosting something at a church parish or community faith?
I don't know really know what English culture is because nobody in my community really shared it.

Describe Italian culture? Spanish? And don’t say pasta or paella. You can’t describe a culture, but they all have a unique history, tradition, architecture, humour, art, music, literature etc etc. without this we feel empty. And I moved to an ex colony of the UK, it feels empty as the traditions have been removed little by little to the point it feels soulless. In time maybe they will build it up as it is a young country, but people want to tear ours down to make way for some global religion of “tolerance”. Wow sounds great. How progressive. It doesn’t need to be as concrete as “Morris dancing”. That’s a very simplistic view of culture.

Britain can only retain those British traditions once it retains it's Christian heritage and culture. Look at Russia once they got rid of the evil of communism. Christianity is now thriving in Russia. Britain has to get rid of its own version of communism which today we call woke or the looney left.

I can assure you, while most of the Celts hate the English, basically no English people have enmity in return. We mostly think the Irish, Scots Irish, Scots, Welsh, etc, are all kinda neat, maybe a bit quirky, maybe a bit communist. But the fact that there is basically no ill will is frankly quite impressive, given how the IRA was occasionally bombing us during the troubles, and the SNP and Welsh assembly continue to try and stoke up controversy. But genuinely, many of us are facing the same problems today, we have a lot more in common than you might think, and there is no reason why we cannot learn to get along.

Webb sets up a clear distinction between the national conservatism that bases their world-view on _love_ , and the rationalist “post-modernist” that bases _their_ world-view on _hatred_ .
I would argue that we should consider the socialist-humanist Erich Fromm. His “cultural Marxism” was based on democratic participation, and yes love: the productive capacities of people. The battle of ideas of which National Conservatism is engaged is between right-wing populism and humanism. The Nat Cons clearly side with certain right-wing demagogues like Farage, Johnson, and Orbán. However, Fromm has much to say about humanist way of organising life. In the _Revolution of Hope_ (1970), Fromm places emphasis on communication, stating:
*_While there will always be fanatics and more or less sick as well as stupid people who cannot participate in this kind of debate, an atmosphere can be created which, without any force, eliminates the effectiveness of such individuals within the group. It is essential for the possibility of a dialogue that each member of the group not only try to be less defensive and more open, but also that he try to understand what the other person means to say rather than the actual formulation he gives to his thought_* .

Apropos of 8:33: More so, I have a feeling that Britain is itself not mentally and emotionally at peace with itself more than anybody else, because it has not reconciled with its past. It makes a comparison with its past at every moment and that makes its present difficult. In Germany, where I have lived for considerable time, I never saw this melancholy.
Britain pretends to have reconciled with its past by putting a self-claim out of defiance that Empire was good and the next moment when facts are put out in front of it, it starts rubbing it feet. I feel a sense of defeat in Britain. Peace lies within. The hardest battle British face is in their hearts and minds.
I still wish Britain all the best, especially to its people. 🙏🇬🇧

Germany is even less so. The scars of WWII have still not healed properly, unfortunately, and the feeling of self-loathing pervades modern Germany and Germans - that is apparent to any visitor or expat who cares to look, and I believe to many Germans themselves. Few countries have embraced the rationalist-liberal project more than Germany, and thereby utterly lost touch with their history (including its many positive features) and traditions.

    • @tada2508
      @tada2508 Год назад

@@alexreg Alex, what you are saying is indeed correct, but that’s not what I am talking about. You are talking about the second stage of German penitence, where as what I am stating is that even the first stage has not happened in the case of Britain. We are not taking the same thing. Let me elaborate:
A crime was committed by Nazis. Germany has acknowledged it and tried to move on. In the process, it has contracted self-loathing, which is an extreme consequence of that very rational-liberal-leftist project you alluded to. This self loathing is just not needed, given Germany’s strong intellectual and scientific culture.
The phenomenon of blaming WW2 for the self loathing is something what psychologists will call *Cognitive Bias* where observers tend to interpret an objective (wrongs from WW2) in terms of the consequence of the action (German self loathing). It’s incorrect attribution IMHO.
The very fact that former German Chancellor sank to his knees at Warsaw Ghetto in 1974 speaks volumes of the penitence Germany as a nation felt. Where as in the case of Britain that simply has not happened.
In the case of Britain, it committed a crime and never felt penitence for it, let alone acknowledge or regret it. Britain has not even reached the stage of that morality yet which Germany has achieved. That makes Germany a lot at peace with itself and actually now a days even Germany lectures others on human rights 😊 which demonstrates that Germany is well aware of the steps it undertook to alleviate its mistake and today it has the moral standing to tell others that you too, like me, should be moral. I think it’s a positive outcome of that penitence. Germany has to be respected for it 🙏
Germany losing its touch with reality has less to do with WW2 past, but more to do with the way Left wing and woke have degenerated everything in the German life, which a German hitherto has felt proud of.
I have never been to the USA, but what I have been reading and watching is that the way Left is undermining the American life, is worse than what Europe has experienced.
I welcome a debate. Ein kurze Frage - bist du Deutscher? Von deinem Namen klingt Brasilianer, aber Vielleicht hier in Deutschland geborn.
      Cheers 🥂

Compare that to 1977 and we can see it is not year zero rather that the monarchy has run its course and people have moved on. This constant harking to a supposed golden age doesnt have the desired effect any more because of the number of times its been repeated. (Flogging a dead horse is doomed to failure)

This is England, you’re right. All our customs and laws have their foundations in the Judeo-Christian tradition. In ways you never even contemplate, including the mundane fact of your given name.

      (1) An elite is good and necessary. There is no such thing as a functioning human society without an elite.
      (2) Religion offers a deep fund of moral guidance based on many centuries of wisdom and experience.
      (3) This is England, and it has been Christian for 1700 years or more.
