- We are back with another amazing exercise index video. Today we talk about the GHR. The GHR has to be one of the most underrated hamstring exercises. This is great for athletes to help prevent hamstring tears. You don't want to start with this but it should be in your workout. Watch the video and I go over all of that.

3 months on and it’s still genuinely upsetting he’s gone, RIP John
Has it been more then 2 years already? What a loss, John was 1 in a million
Time flies man it feels like it happened recently @@wb2605
I was deadlifting like crazy. Heavy weight. Barbell rows.
My gluten and hamstring got tight one day. Ignored it. Went to play softball with friends. Took one long stride. And pop. Hamstring injury. Now I’m here. Learning how to get them stronger. It’s always been a problem.
Not enough people know how to train hamstrings properly, or even do it at all. The eccentric motion on these is VERY effective, & agree with your advice on how to sequence this training. 👍
Absolutely!
you prolly dont give a shit but does anyone know a tool to get back into an instagram account??
I stupidly lost the account password. I would love any help you can give me
Best fitness account on RUclips, hands down.
He's one of the top coaches in the world ofcourse he's awesome
Agreed!

Mayor John Meadows 🤔🤔🤔🤔🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I’m tired with all RUclips fitness information. Everybody making exercises different according to their style...
But JOHN is different the information is really helpful and his tips are always good.
I would say that if anyone looking for the perfect video guidance this is the place
Rip Mr Meadows we miss you
RIP Legend
Honestly. Who is the one guy that disliked this video? It is informative and straight to the point. I love these exercise index videos. They always remind me of something I missed or forgot about the exercise.
the people who dislike haven't hurt themselves bad enough yet. when they do they'll respect this guy a lot more. his longevity speaks volumes
Probably a misclick
Man, i miss John's videos so much
I would say 97% of people do not know how to use this device correctly....and this includes gym employees/trainers....only a few videos out there that show proper technique and this is most definitely the best GHR video
thank you!
I love this exercise.. the way that you explained it is so spot on.. one of my go to exercises for targeting the hamstring and I actually have seen some improvements in a short period of time ! Your channel is one of my favorites! Awesome!!!!
Still one of the best GHR videos out there, thanks John. Your work and ideas live on.
thank you John for this awesome advice! You are the first person I turn to when it‘s about technique and sports in any way. May you rest in peace, your legacy will always carry on!❤️
Awesome information John. I have fallen in love with decline again just by stacking 2-25 lb plates under the feet end of the flat bench. My shoulders are doing great and my pecs love the pump of the decline. All because of one of your videos a couple weeks ago! Keep them coming, I am 45 and am loving hitting the gym all over again! 🇺🇸💪
I don’t need or want some goofy “influencer”, I don’t need to be influenced, I’m not a child. Gimme that Mountain Dog all day.
Great explanation as always! I have used a resistance band to help on the concentric. I mean a thick resistance band looped over the back of the machine and around my upper chest. I use may hands to keep it in place. Helps a lot to get the form down for a full range of motion. Still can't do them without assistance but I can definitely fell them in my HS!! Keep up the great work John!!
"We want maximum tension" - yes indeed! Our gym needs a GHR big time. I miss these. Any exercise that's really hard usually really works :)
Love live Mountain Dog! Thanks for teaching me about strength training! Bless you and your family!
Totally agree John, I know that hamstrings are a difficult area for most people and I found that doing heavier exercises and focusing more on the negative has given a tremendous amount of growth in this area.
Thank you John . I just purchased a GHR and now due to your video . I know how to do these properly ... I wish everybody could have you as a coach 👍🏻👏🙏
Glad I could help
These 1 exercise video explanations are incredible
I have been doing these lately after watching one of John's previous videos and I gotta say it is a hamstring destroyer!
Thanks for the great info man!
My gym has a rogue glute ham raise and haven’t seen a single person use it correctly. Everyone used it reverse for crunches/sit ups or they do back extensions. I love this machine.
Love love your videos. Appreciate you so much! They help me out ALOT!
Thank you John for another great video. Great tip-I really need to slow down the eccentric and not “dive bomb” down as I tend to do. Looking forward to trying this!
Good explanation! Great vid! Lots of wisdom and focus on safety as well. Good job!
Gonna start doing these today and the explanation couldn't be better. RIP legend ❤️
“Top 5 exercise to mass up” looking forward to this video series’s..:)
Have to wait to do those exercises again... I can't risk getting infected...
But YES! It's a killer, but often done wrong...
As always, great info from you, big humble man 💪
Greetings from Belgium 👋👋
This is great video. John was an excellent teacher.
Still using these! Thanks John, RIP sir.
"Alright Hi Everybody!"
Makes my day every time
Great exercise! Nordic leg curls (eccentric only) really helped me recover from a hamstring strain last year, and I've been doing them on and off as prehab ever since. Gonna have to start working in the concentric!
finally have a place where i can do these ...looked up how to do them...and of course john made a video...these videos alwaya bring a tear to my eye nowadays ...RIP prayers to him and his loved ones
This channel is fantastic!
gratitude mr.meadows for sharing your knowledge and expertise
You are very welcome
Thanks again for sharing your wisdom really appreciate your advice you’ve been a very big help 💯✊🏼🙏
You are so welcome
Timing could not be any more perfect, thank you
Thank you John
Great tips as always Mr. Meadows. I probably use too much lower back on these, but I still feel a good bit of my glutes and hams.
R.I.P 🙏🏽💪🏾😢
More great content.
Immortal
Wow what a great explanation of great way to avoid injury! thank you 🤩👍
this really helped me. my gym just got one and I did it all wrong. going to hit it again the right way. Thanks!
Added this to my leg routine. RIP ❤️🙏🏾💪🏾
Rest in peace John 🙏 great guy great knowledge and no ego
Rip the goat 🐐 still finding info i needed from u
My gym owner got rid of ours. I asked him what happened to it, he didn't know what I was talking about. When I described it, he just said, "Oh, nobody used it". Decent guy, works out, but not an enthusiast. Footprint couldn't have been more than 10 sq ft.
smh
Love the GHR! GREAT INSTRUCTIONS
Glad it was helpful!
Been subscribed for a while, but just changed it so I see all your videos first!
Awesome! Thank you!
Yeah any gym that has this and people that are refusing to use it you’re just neglecting an excellent opportunity to strengthen your hamstrings which will just lead to so many other benefits one of my favorite pieces of equipment
This guy was the best!
An added benefit of the extended arms form is that you can record your Superman Tik Tok video as you do your workout.
LOL!
Love the advice to start with negatives. This is a great exercise but I've never been strong enough to do them properly
My favorite hammy demolisher!
Thank you John. My gym has that
Thank you
John Meadows is one of the best and always will be🖤
No one really knows about this or Nordic curls inside the lifting community, however as a sprinter, these and nordics are essential for rehab and injury prevention, as sprinters get more hamstring injuries than any other sports due to the forces we endure when our leg fires down from hip flexion. RIP to a legend who had widespread knowledge, a massive loss to the fitness industry🙏
I've never had access to a glute-ham machine, even in the gym, but I got a glute-ham strap from Spud, Inc. that goes around a weight bench to provide a place to hook your feet. The problem with it has always been the difficulty of getting your feet under the strap -- if it's too tight, you can't easily twist around to face forward, and if it's too loose, it doesn't hold you properly. Today I tried getting in position and then slipping a yoga half-moon-shaped bolster or pillow under my knees. That lifts me away from the strap, thereby tightening it enough that I really felt it in my hams. (I tried a BOSU first, to try to simulate that angled cushion you have on the GH bench, but it didn't feel right, possibly because it needs some air. I'll have to inflate it more and try again. But the bolster under my knees worked great.) Your cue to keep your hips locked and not round your back worked great. I tightened my glutes and dropped forward, and my hams really lit up.
One thing that helps is getting a slight crunch in your abs and keeping that tension throughout the entire movement. Also driving your knees down through the floor during the concentric movement.
John’s legacy of helping people lives on and likely will for decades. RIP JOHN the “dad” helping the fitness industry
Phenomenal cues. Going straight out with the body straight lights those hams and glutes like crazy
John, thanks for the constant high quality content. 💪 how do you think I could do this without that contraption?
nordic leg curl done on soft pad with someone holding ankles
We miss you John!
RIP JM aka Mountaindog...
Leg day!!! Thanks John, ✌
Thank you to a goat. I revisit whenever I’m not sure
Güzel bilgiler hocamm severek izliyoruz Türkiye'den selamlarrr✋
Unfortunately, if you don´t have access to a GHD you have to rely on whacky setups with an assisting partner or a barbell. So I probably have to stick to weighted hyperextensions with a barbell. Great content as always anyway.
Great video 👍
I think it's almost the same as nordic curls, am I right?
Thanks again John. My training has improved dramatically since watching your channel.
Keep it up
@@mountaindog1 will do.
Rest in peace 🕊️ John
Wish I had this at my gym, do a half assed version of these on that 45 degree angled pad
I perform them with a resistance band attached to the rear of the GHR bench and I go completely down like a hyperextention movement for a full stretch.
Hi, john could you do a video explaining nutrient timing please
Yesss GHR is the best
In my commercial gym, the GHR is used as a crunch machine, a chair, a curl machine, or a dip machine - rarely ever as a GHR.
Can we please get a nordic curl version, machine and free version, unsure how to progress it to full nordics, my gym doesn't have a GHR
We need YO YO tricks.
we'll get more this week!
Ah, that's the contraption I have never seen anyone use in the gym. I'll dust it off tomorrow and do these! I think doing heavy deadlifts should be enough of a warmup for my hamstrings, right?
we sadly dont have this one in our gym... before when i was training at home i did these with the feets under the sofa but was really uncomfortable. cna you do a video if and how there is a way to replicate this excersice if we dont have acess to this machine?
John, what you think about doing the eccentric portion of a glute-ham super slow, followed by an explosive concentric? Total of only 2 or 3 reps but total duration of set is more than 1 min? I've found these are very tough. What do you think?
I like it
@@mountaindog1 I think what I've been doing would be called "eccentric quasi isometrics" on the glute ham. Very slow eccentric with multiple short pauses along the ROM, then fast on the concentric. It's definitely made my hamstrings much more resilient to injury.
If you have a way to set it up this schould be excellent banded, I guess.
❤️
REST IN PEACE😞
Will you please tell us how to do these or nordic curls if we don’t have the equipment for it? Is there a way to do it? The only solid exercises i can do in my gym are seated curls and Rdls and really doing maximum TuT untill my forarms lose grip on the bar/dumbells. I need another hamstring exercise. Thank you so much
nordic leg curl done on soft pad with someone holding ankles
@@mountaindog1 thank you ❤️
I try to convert everything to resistance bands. Lying on ground, facing away from anchor point leg curl or sitting forward facing anchor point leg curl?
how is this on the lower back? I love hamstring day, but i have a really bad lower back due to scoliosis. I have to avoid any lower back exercises.
Miss you bud
So feet placement on this thing should I be pulling back with my heels or toes on the way up?
flexing hams
Can we do this on a bench?Or an alternative way to do dis?
👍
Will you coach Wesley Vissers?
i would! he is awesome!
My gym doesn't have this machine. Can you do this on a lat pull down machine?
yes you can make that work
Hamstrings is what really compliments the quads
We don’t actually have a GHR at my gym…. What can we use instead?
What are some alternatives if there's no access to a ghr?
