I just ordered Vogue 8379 wrap dress. I think it is the new number for that dress. Thanks, your dress looks gorgeous. I can’t wait to sew me a wrap dress.
Hi late to the party, as always but I have been waiting for this video. I watched your previous video about this pattern and decided, yes, I want to make it. I thought that I had something similar in my patterns, and I had, Vogue 8379. I thought that this looked very similar to the original so thought that I would use it. I bought the same fabric from Minerva. After seeing you in the gorgeous dress I realised the difference. Especially the fact that there are no darts in the front just pleats in the wrap and no darts or other fitting in the back. Also the front does not wrap over as far as yours. So I have now bought the original pattern. It should fit me if I do a FBA and so make the waist a little bigger. I'll do a wearable toile. I have put the fabric to one side to make for the Autumn as I want sleeves but will do a sleeveless toile. Your dress jut looks fantastic, I hope mine looks almost as good. Thank you for doing these videos.
I am so glad you found this video useful! Thats why I make them - I remember being frustrated at needing to see what was going on inside the garment to get an idea of whats what - its just how my sewing brain works and why I show the inside of the garment on my body. I also just finished making the same wrap dress pattern for my sister who has a bust 2" smaller than mine so I did a SBA and I had to so a swayback adjustment and it turned out perfectly! I know your will too! The problem now is that I want to make SO MANY more of this pattern! Its so good.
I don't think that I have ever seen someone so happy with a pattern! Sad news is that the chart shows that size 14 is the largest, and that is with a 36" bust. I would have loved this pattern because it also has a collar which is great for the collar.
Thank you! Its a shame the size only goes up to 14. I think Vogue has some recent wrap dress patterns with a full size range that some have used to recreate this DVF dress. Might worth checking them out.
@@SaturdayNightStitch I am still smiling thinking about you trying on that dress! Thanks, I will check out Vogue. Now I have to have a wrap dress. Thank you Sister-In-Stitch!
No dull moments with you Hila! Love the dress! Compliments your complexion! Guess what I ordered my self the pattern! Hope I will Pull it off like you did ! I am a beginner .
Love this video and the work you did on the dress. I found the pattern but can't figure out what size to buy. My bust is 32, waist is 29.5 and hips are 38. Can you offer any advice. Waist/hip seem to be a 14 for this pattern but bust would say get a 10. Not sure...Thanks for your awesome channel and enthusiasm. It's infectious
Hi and thanks for reaching out! Personally I use my bust to select the pattern as I find it easier to adjust waist and hip versus doing a small bust adjustment. This style has waist darts and gathering so making the waist wider is easy to achieve by reducing the dart leg and less gathering. The hips on this dress is quite flared so unlikely to be an issue if using a jersey fabric. I have made this in jersey (here) and in a woven for my sister and my advice would be that if you use a jersey you will most likely be fine without too much adjustments due to forgiving nature of knits. If you want to use a woven - make a toile of the bodice to check fit. Hope that helps! Its such a great pattern and so well drafted that you will love it. x
Hello…you made a lovely DVF Wrap Dress! This is my first time seeing your videos and you’re great at sewing! I have a question that maybe you can help me with. If I wear a size 8 (US), then what size pattern would you suggest? I see this exact pattern online but not sure what size to purchase. From the pattern it suggests that I’m a size 14 based on my measurements! I measured my chest the same as you demonstrated and I measured a 37.
Thanks for watching! The bust measurements is the one you base the pattern size on so for 37" bust that would be the size 14. Sewing pattern sizes are very different to store clothing sizing so it's never a good idea to base on store clothing sizing. Vintage sewing patterns are even more different as people's average body shapes were different to what they are now so definitely measurements help with selecting a pattern that will be a better fit. Best wishes.
@@SaturdayNightStitch Thank you so very much…I really do appreciate your quick response! I will take your recommendation 🙏🏽. I’m sure I’ll be reaching out again ☺️.
Yes you can it is drafted for woven fabrics - its has dart and gathering to get shaping. I sewed another one using rayon challis and it came out great!
All the style of this model lies in the collar and cuffs which match the wide belt. I think it's a shame to delete them... In a comment you say that you sewed this dress in a challis. Did you make a different size between the jersey one and the challis one? Thanks for answering!

Could you do this in cotton or do you need to adjust the pattern?
