Hey Noel, it is so great to see your channel AND your knowledge grow. I remember in your first videos you often pointed out that you were "a thruster guy", and today you know more about the subtleties of twin fins in all varieties than you yourself would have probably thought back then. Thanks for sharing that with us, and happy holidays to you, Aarron and the fam. Yeew!
Cheers for the kind words and Happy Holidays to you too!!
Noel yout 3rd wave was that one where you put it together brotha. You went from one big off the top to start off out the back and connected from maneuver to maneuver only bottom turns and carves no pumps awesome wave one of the best waves you have ever put together in my opinion.Keep ripping God bless
Excellent breakdown on the fins. Great video. Thanks fellas.
Just picked one up finally, swell coming this weekend. Running the MR twins + stabilizer 🤙🤙 thanks for the amazing content always
Hey Noel great review. If you ever get a chance try one of the twin +1 setup with a nubster/guitar pcik fin in back instead of a trailor. The effect is pretty cool. Feels slightly closer to the twin fin but with more speed......but none of the weird backside tracking that I feel with a twinny. Pretty cool and they cost like 10$ so minimal investment for more fun
Ordered mine about a month ago. Been trying to figure out if I wanted to buy thruster fins or a twin +. This was huge help. Awesome vid!
The key to twin fin designs is the position of the fins. This design is a good example of this. Can run as a twin or twin + one. Paired of course with appropriate templates. Great review from two physically different & talented surfers.

This was a great review and I can't wait for the pivot 2+1 to be sent out..!!
Just ordered my 4th Mayhem because of your reviews, hope those shapers are compensating you somehow! keep it up Noel
Stoked to hear… the 96 is legit
My brother and I love this board ! Highly recommended, epoxy or pu
I was going to order a pod mod, which I already have had, but I ordered one of these instead to try something different... hope it is as fun as the pod mod, it looks that way!!! cheers, thanks for these reviews, they´re really the best.
Great reviews and insight boys especially with all the fin variations love it ❤🤙maybe looking to get one of these in the future as a fun daily driver
Noel which would you choose as your daily driver between the rnf 96 and the swordfish please? Got both in my radar and feel like they fit the same category from your reviews thanks as always keeping up the stoke 🤙Jon
Yeomans absolutely killing it!
Always!
Noel, best reviews ever !!
Best board reviews in the business
Noel, I love all of your reviews, thank you for making this one before the end of the year. I really love everytime you have Nate in the show. The RNF is in my bucket list but I have delay my purchase for sometime since I got the Seaside about a year ago. Does it make sense two have both board ( Seaside and the RNF)
Shit, I just asked a very similar to another reviewer. Will wait for your answer to either one of us
The Seaside and the 96 surf completely different in my book. The 96 offers more of a performance board feel in the pocket as it likes to surf top to bottom. The Seaside is a bit faster and likes to carve more with excellent projection through turns and feels more like a groveler even through it can shred 4-6' surf. I would be stoked to have both boards in my quiver.....
@@surfnshowreviews7777 thank you so much Noel, the RNF just made my two top boards for X-Mas
Got one from your reviews, coming from a Sampler PU that is already a fantastic board. As Nate said: "This thing is money". What struck me the most was the responsiveness in backside, the fact that it's a little shorter and lighter in light speed construction makes it incredibly responsive underfoot. Friends that tried it said it was the most amazing board they'd ever tried... Thank you so much for the immense amount of hours you put into testing the boards. We put money into the right equipment and you make surfing so much more fun for everyone. ❤
Cheers for the kind words
Great video keep it up 👍
Picked up a 6 in light speed. Ride a 3 year old retro and 4 year old quiver killer. This pretty much put both in the corner. Just an avg to good surfer and this really has helped me be more performance oriented in medium size waves. Carver drills helped too but this seems like it helped me hit that perfromance level a bit sooner. Def translated to better surfing in my quiver killer.
@Doug Sheldon did you get the pu or lightspeed ?
@@chrisathan4293 light speed. Is fun but i had a decent compression ding a few months in from laying ny thigh into it. Was pretty bad but fixed now. Just dont think its as durable as i thought an epoxy would be. Didnt even remember hitting it that badly w my leg but w a suit on and in cold water its hard to tell how impactful a body blow can be.
@@dougsheldon8970 thank you for your reply wow , that’s pretty weird.Glad u fixed it though. Can you push hard on the rails? Do you ride it as a twinny at all ?
@@chrisathan4293 twin plus 1. It rips. Id go PU if i had to again. Just like the feel better. LS is light and took time getting used to. Paddles great
@@dougsheldon8970 wow, thank you so much for your help.
I think I’ll go for the pu , I was really stuck :)
If there were ever a comparison. I would like to know how the RNF 96 compares to the Lost RNF Redux. The Redux has the wing and goes super in mid size waves with a Twin + Trailer. The big twin fins on the pivot point (wings) gives it a very distinctive lively feeling and turns on places on the face that other boards dont. I havent surfed the 96 and would like to get a performance RNF again. I am only thinking about RNF 96 because it is a newer design. Have any of you surfed both?
Love this page
thanks for the reviews. Would like to see DHD phoenix (or even Vs. RNF 96).
Hi Noel,
Thank you for your impeccable reviews! I am 52 years old 5'10" and weigh 185 lbs. I stopped surfing for about 25 years and got back into surfing about five months ago. I live in Hawaii and mostly surf @ Ala Moana Bowls, Rockpiles. I also go to the North Shore and will surf at Ehukai up to 5' max Hawaiian Style.
I purchased the Firewire Cymatic and Firewire Mashup based on your reviews, along with your Twin+Trailer set for my Mashup. I currently have a 5'9" 36.6 liter JS Red Barron HYFI 2.0, 6'0 40.2 liter Firewire Cymatic, and a 6'2' 41.6 liter Mashup.
I purchased the the Firewire Boards with more liters because of my paddling power at the time. Paddling power is no longer an issue, so I want to sell both boards and keep the Red Barron as my groveller board. My plan is to buy a 6'2" Ghost for the North Shore, but I also want another board for the South Shore that sits above the Red Barron. I am trying to decide between the 5'9" 33.50 Liter Lost RNF 96 or the 6'1" 33.10 Liter Pyzalen 2 for the South Shore. The biggest waves I will surf is 6' Hawaiian Style on the South Shore.
Good to hear your back in the water.
Here are some liter ranges for your weight at different skill levels.
Pro/Expert 29-31L
Advanced 31-33L
Intermediate 34-36L
I suggest the 96 for the South Shore. It’s super fun and it will hold in bigger surf.
The Ghost sounds good for the N Shore too. That would be my first choice for those waves
@@surfnshowreviews7777 Thank you so much for your feedback. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Noel, i have a sizing question for this board as im oddly shaped. Im 5'5 but 190 as a weightlifter and need a good recommendation for the rnf96. I usually ride a 6'0 psycho killer at 33.50L. I was an advanced surfer for the better part of 20 yrs but after 2 shoulder replacements, id def say im more intermediate now. Ive been struggling some with the psycho killer getting into waves. I have to be pretty far back when paddling as it seems like there isnt enough foam up front to support me and thr nose sinks while paddling. I had a rnf back in 2002 that was 5'8 and i loved it. Really want to get back into one so any help would be appreciated
@@jamieryan8328 I purchased the Epoxy 5'8' RNF 96 at 32 liters and a PU 6'1" Pyzalien 2 at 33.10 liters. What I noticed is that the RNF is easier to paddle then the Pyzalien. I also prefer the RNF 96 over the Pyzalien for the overall feel of the board. Definitely prefer the RNF 96 over the Firewire Mashup as well. The RNF 96 is the bomb!
@SMOOTTHH1 thanks for the heads up. I fit in a similar bracket as you being in my late 40s and not surfing as much as i used to with all my surgeries. I know paddling isnt all about volume and your comparison helps for sure. Im on the east coast so i definitely done have the caliber of waves you have, but its not always junk. I think the 5'8 might just be thr ticket for me as well
Somehow I've come to the point where you're the only person i trust for a board review! Pro level surfer that can genuinely feel all the differences, but unbiased so can make honest comparisons. So keep em coming!
One question if you're around: How would you compare the RNF 96 to the RNF retro in terms of getting into waves and being able to surf them at the upper end of their wave range?
The 96 is legit and you can push it in bigger, steeper waves as a Thruster or even with a solid Twin + Trailer fin set. Most other boards that have a similar hybrid outline don’t work nearly as good. The 96 is unique for sure and it shreds in the pocket and down the line.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 Thanks Noel! Would you say the RNF 96 has more glide and gets into waves earlier than a CI Rocket Wide? I have a RW (thanks to your review) and love it to bits. I'm just looking for something that can get me into bigger waves earlier (without going to a mid-length).
@@Stomperproductions Not sure the 96 is a bigger wave board. It will shred some bigger surf but it’s not my first choice. The glide might be a little better compared to the RW
@@surfnshowreviews7777 what would you recommend in that case? Bearing in mind that I want a shortboard for these waves that gets me into them as early as possible
@@Stomperproductions How big of waves are you talking? Are the waves hollow too?
The only problem with these reviews is that between Noel and Trestles EVERY board looks awesome
Awesome review Noel! Was waiting for this about to make a RNF96 here in Peru, how is paddle power for really small days ? Compared to my phantom and hydroshort I have on my quiver I’m looking for something that paddles great and have great speed on small days.
The 96 paddles good compared to your Phantom and Hydroshort. The 96 will shred smaller waves do it's shorter package. You can put it where you want in the wave faster because it's shorter compared to a board with more rail line. If you want the 96 purely for small wave ripping then I highly recommend getting it in Lightspeed for a little extra float and pop through turns.
Hey Noel, another great review. I also just watched "How to make your board work"- "How to surf small waves faster" and "How to do Frontside Roundhouse figure 8 cutbacks". I'm going to spend the summer working on the figure 8 roundhouse cutback and take mine to as close to your level as possible. I'm also in the market for a new board. I'm in San Diego, mostly waist to head high beach break, similar shape and size to the surf you were riding in the Frontside Roundhouse video. I'm 5'10" 165pds and usually ride 28ish liters. I was checking out your reviews of the RNF 96, the Mini Ghost Squash, the Dominator 2 and the Rocket Wide squash. I'm aware you are also currently working on the Mashup review. I'm not married to any of those ideas though. Could please tell me what you think would be a great board and fin set up to make my frontside figure 8 roundhouse summer practice the easiest and most productive. Cheers and Thanks!
Dominator 2, Mini Ghost Squash, and RW Squash carry excellent speed. If you are heavily front footed then consider the Mini Ghost Round tail, or NB3
Fins for all of those boards… I highly recommend my 5 fin set. Check them out here….

Fast and loose with maximum drive… silky smooth too.
I’d love to see a review on the DHD Phoenix! Same category of board but I’m interested in your take on it. It’s a very very popular board and I’ve only heard good things. I use it as my daily driver but in my opinion it’s one of the best designs as a 2 +1!
I ordered one over a year ago…. I don’t think it’s coming. Bummer… that board looks good to me
Same, Phoenix looks sweet!
Ive been riding these since 2008 and owned 9. Im thinking of stripping off my older brown ones and reglassing them. 🎉
thinking of getting this board as a groveler
Such a sick board
Hey Noel! Love the reviews! Wondering how the RNF would compare to the el tomo fish??
Ep Tomo Fish offers more high performance surfing in 3-6’ surf. The 96 will out perform the Tomo Fish in 1-3’ surf
Great review, really enjoyed watching you two rip!
I'm a bit late to comment but just wondering if anyone knows how the RNF 96 compares to the RNF redux?
I was just going through Catalyst boards Lost selection…nice overviews of who for and uses/wave conditions. That might help a bit.
Hi Noel, I had this board back in 1999 and in 2005 and loved it! I had a 5,8 but never knew the liters. If I got a 5,8 now do you think the dimensions/liters would be the same as back in the day? I am 46 years old, fit and 83kg. Surf every day at a high level but got injuries now (broken neck C1) etc so need the extra foam! Short boards are 30.8L and I got a JS psycho nitro at 5,7 31L that I love to. I would like to go a bit longer to 5,8 but never ridden 32L that I know of. Sucks to be old and would love your take on what I should do and if the dimensions are the same with this model and the old ones. Only like PU boards. Thanks mate your reviews have helped me drain the bank account for years!
Go with similar volume as you P Nitro
Have you ever tried AU fins?? They did a fluiddynamics test on then and theyre like 12-13% faster than normal fins which means more speed power and flow I would assume! Would love to try a pair but more interested in what you might think about them. They have a whole line up from keel twins to thrusters and quads. Just want to know how they feel before I make a purchase and you are so knowledgeable and articulate with how things feel in the water would love to hear your thoughts if youve tried them ever!
Those are super interesting I'd love to hear Noel's thoughts on them
I saw that they had them tested and I am stoked to hear that the results they got from the Fluid Dynamics test were so positive. I have some AU Fins but I have not ridden them yet. I will try to get on them soon.
Came back here because of your most recent video and wanted to learn even more about the board construction. I see some Lib Tech versions floating around. Thoughts on these vs Lite Speed?
Sorry I have not tried the Lib Tech construction yet.
Hey Noel, in your opinion would you say the RNF96 is a better paddler and groveller than the Swordfish?
i want a groveler that makes going a little more vertical easier than my puddle jumper. reef breaks too. obvious option is PJHP but should i be looking at something like this or rnf redux or something different?
I like the RNF 96 best for what you’re looking for
Is Nate on 'Glassy'? Yeewww
If possible please do a review of the New JS XERO… I Would love to hear your opinion on that one.
Thanks
The folks at JS are not sending in boards for review at this time as they can barely keep boards in stock. I think all of the lager board brands have this problem right now but thankfully Lost, CI, Firewire, Pyzel, Rusty, LSD, Aipa (Duke & Akila) Sharpeye, to name a few that help support our Show, and help the Surf Community make solid choices. Sorry no JS reviews at this time.... but I did reach out to them for the Xero and Sub Xero boards to review.
You should review Album Twinsman
Hi Noel- hope the recovery is going well. Trying to decide between RNF '96 and BV2 for 1-4ft beach breaks. Higher end intermediate surfer, around 185lbs and 1.8m. Thinking 36ish litre so either 5'10 RNF or 6'2 BV2. Which do you think is easier/more forgiving to surf? Thanks!
I like a shorter board in smaller waves so 96 for me. If you like a little more rail line then go BV2. Both boards are epic
Hi Noel, just a quick question what would say would be the best one board quiver the nrf 96 or the Astro pop XL both boards come in at the same volume to length ratio the surf I get never really gets over 6ft mostly being 2-3ft (waist to a little over head)? Cheers, keep up the good work always look forward to the latest reviews
The 96 will handle the overhead surf better and surf more vertical in the pocket. The AP Carrie’s more speed and projects better.
Thanks for the reply, looks like the rnf 96 is a better option 👍
Hey Noel! Great vid as always. Curious how you see the RNF 96 compared to the rusty miso ? Notice you featured both models in your hp twins + trailer video …
96 surfs more performance in the pocket compared to the Miso. Miso lilies to project down the line and maybe a little better for carving due to the bottom contours
@@surfnshowreviews7777 Interesting distinction! Would you say the wave range is similar ? Perhaps the Miso tops out a little earlier ?
@@swooshcdl similar wave range for sure. I pushed the Miso in well overhead surf and it did not disappoint
Hey Noel, I am a long time viewer and patron to your channel. I am looking to replace my Lost Mayhem Puddle Jumper HP and CI Rocket Wide and am leaning towards the RNF vs the Seaside by Firewire to replace both. Do you think the RNF will cover both of these boards better. I am a bit of an older bigger guy these days surfing boards in the 37-39 litre range. I have a JS Industries Raging Bull (still in good condition) for the bigger/better days and hollower punchy waves on the south coast of NSW Australia which has a wide variety of wave types (points, reefs, beach) and sizes throughout the year.
Both boards are epic and super fun. The 96 offers a bit more performance in the pocket and the Seaside is faster down the line. If you like pivot more than carving and speed then go 96.
Excellent review as always, Noel!
2 questions, please:
Seaside x RNF 96?
Hydra x RNf 96?
similarities and differences…
thanks!
The Hydra is a true groveler with very low rocker so it's faster down the line compared to the 96 and the Seaside. The Hydra really performs well in 1-2' mushy waves but it struggles in hollow surf due to less rocker. The 96 is a 1 board quiver doing all things well in my book but if I want a board to shred 1-2' mushy waves then I would get the Hydra in C4 purely for the extra glide and down the line speed.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 thanks so much for the detailed response, Noel.
RNF 96 will out perform both boards in pocket. It surfs top to bottom better with more pivot, traction, and hold through turns. The Hydra grovels best out of three in 1-2’ mushy waves due to less rocker and wider tail. The Seaside draws more fish type lines and likes to carve better out of the 3 boards.
Thanks Noel for the great review as always! I'm thinking about getting the RNF 96 as a lib tech construction. Do you think it will feel and perform different compared to the two RNF constructions in this video, or will it not be that noticeable? And what is your Opinion on Libtech constructions in general?
I have not surfed a Lib Tech yet. I have held one in my hands and it was heavy and felt hard and durable.
Any tips on traction pad placement as a twin fin? I Watched the other video on getting the pad right over the rear fin on a thruster. But what about a twin?
All the way back against the leash plug. You can always move your foot forward.,
Hey Noel, I’m a bit late to the video but I must say it really gives an insight on how the board feels under your feet. I’ve been thinking about getting one. I’m 5’4 at 141 pounds, you think a 5’3 rnf would fit me?
(I also have a 5’7 smith shapes little wing that’s about 26 litres and it feels amazing)
Stay roughly 26L
Hey Noel, hope you're well. Any thoughts on the comparison between the RNF 96 vs the Psycho Killer vs the Swordfish? They all seem similar small wave swallow/fishy performance shapes. Thanks!
The 96 blows the other two away. It’s faster, smoother rail to rail, and offers excellent performance top to bottom for a fish. The PK needs a good wave to go good… it’s not much of a Groveler
Do a review on a Ryan Burch fish
Thanks for the great review and info Noel, you are ripping like always!
I have a 5’5 seaside, and a 5’10 phantom. Looking for a small wave performance board to fit between those, and in 2-5’ waves. Looking at both stock dims a 5’9 uber driver xl or a 5’8 rnf 96. Do you think the rnf 96 has more bottom end in smaller waves? Also would you say uber driver surfs more performance than rnf 96 or would you say they were close in pocket surfing capability ? Thanks!
I like the 96 for your in between board. You can run it as a twin in the smaller waves or Twin + Trailer in 3-5’ surf.
The UD XL is fun too but the 96 is better in 1-2’ surf
Thanks for the reply Noel! I think imma give the rnf 96 a go! Since I got the seaside quad and phantom thruster a twin +1 will be a good spice of variety in there ! 🤙🏼
Is the seaside not good for the 2-5 range?
@@JCPProductions01 It’s fun in 1-6’ surf
Currently trying to decide on what length of RNF 96 to go for... Im about 81kg/178lbs, 6ft intermediate surfer and will pretty much use it as a one board quiver. I mostly end up surfing surf 2-5ft in a real mix of conditions... thinking maybe a 5'9 at 33.5L would suit? Any advice appreciated
I suggest similar volume to your Daily Driver board. If you like your boards sensitive then maybe 31-33L or a little more float 33-35L.
Hi Noel, thanks for the review !
I see that this board is usually ridden with same volume as usual boards, how does it performs in sloppy conditions ? Is it easier to catch waves than regular shortboard ?
I'm 5"8 for 67kg and usually ride 25 liters, any advice to choose wisely ? Thanks !
I think it paddles better than a HPSB or Daily Driver. You can go up 1/2 - 1 liter max if you don’t want to ride the 96 super short. I would not go up more volume then that.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 Thank you Noel !
Hey Noel :) my boyfriend has just purchased the RNF 96 (with a 2+1 set up) and we are wondering if we should still place the traction pad with the kick behind the trailer fin or should it be further forward with this set up? Big ups from NZ to you and your show!
On mine i split the difference..
With my foot against the kick...it lands a bit in front of the center of the center box, feels good as a thruster and a 2+1, but i find myself riding higher up when riding twins only... so i guess adjust depending on what fin setup you surf it mostly? Hope this helps a little 🤙🏾
Love the show Noel! I currently have an Uber XL... is this too similar to that? Looking at rnf 96 or seaside to fill bottom end of my quiver
Go 96… in waist high surf ride the 96 as a pure twin with my HP Twins…. Next level fun.
surfnshow.com/products/twin-fins-hp-twins
Anyone have experience with this and the Chilli BV2 as a one board quiver? Which board is more versatile? Which one is more user friendly from 3’ to 7’ surf?
The RNF 96 will out perform the BV2 in the pocket in 3-7’ surf. The BV2 is faster down the line and grovels better in 1-3' surf but it will struggle on bottom turns in 5-7’ surf compared to the 96.
Excellent review Noel, Tks!
RNF96 x FishBeard?
what do you prefer for performance?
Tough one… the 96 gives you more fin set up options so it’s more versatile. If I’m choosing which one I like better purely as a Twin Fin then I say FB. I like more rail line for bigger carves and the performance outline on the nose of the FB better.
Great review and epic board! How would the rnf retro compare to the 96?
The 96 out performs the Retro in every way except down the line speed. Both boards are fast but the 96 offers way more performance in the pocket and shreds 3-6’+ waves way better.
Loved the review Dude! What is your opinion on the RNF96 vs fishbeard?
96 is more user friendly if your not used to surfing a Twin Fin
Hi Noel. thanks for another solid review. I have been stuck on the HS Untitled for about 2 years. I absolutely love the board. But im looking to try something different. I ride my untitled as a 2+1. How would these two boards compare? My only issue with the Untitled is digging the rail in a barrel. tends to just push me out of the pocket when I try to knife the rail in. would the RNF solve this? thanks again.
Two completely different boards… I cannot compare them
Ok. Guess i will just give the board a try. Thanks again for your reviews
How much further back are the fins compared to a standard thruster setup? I always assumed they were nearly the same as a thruster, around 11” from the tail.
Great question... the side fin boxes on my 96 are closer 9" from the tail.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 thanks for the reply and the measurements! Seems like it’s right where MR places his twins too.
Hi Noel, great review. Did you have a chance to compare the rnf 96 to the rnf redux ? I know that the rnf redux has more fins setup option, but i couldn't find anything about the concrete difference between the two in the water.
Also, what size/volume of 96 do you recommend for an 182 cm (6') 63 kg (139 lbs) intermediate? Thanks a lot.
Volume for your weight at different skill levels.
Pro/Expert 22-24L
Advanced 24-26L
Intermediate 27-29L
If you like your boards sensitive and responsive then go roughly 25-27L.
Thanks a lot Noel!
Noel thanks for sharing, for the volume shouldn't we add another input such as how many surf per week? I can surf those smaller boards but wave count doesn't add up when I m surfing once or twice a week unlike when I surf daily.
Hey Noel,
How would you compare the MR Cali Twin to the RNF 96?
Looking for a fun PU twin + trailer board (doesn’t need to be on of the above) that will also go well as a pure twin. Currently have an NB2, sci-fi, and ghost. Taking a trip to Mexico next month and plan to pick up a twin + trailer board for it. Thanks! 🤙🏽
I like the RNF 96 better. It surfs the pocket better and it shreds as a Twin Fin and Twin + Trailer. My HP Twins go mental that sled. Check them out here….

Hi Noel, first off, thank you so much for your reviews. They are always informative and entertaining!
I am currently planning to buy a RNF 96 but I am stuck on which dims to get. I am 179cm in height and roughly 138lbs. I ride my shortboards around 25L volume. The RNF 96 stock dims in 25L would be the 5’2, but that would be way to short in length for me I think. I’m thinking of getting the 5’4 or 5’5, but am unsure how to size up in length on a custom whilst not increasing the volume too far beyond 25L. How would you suggest adding length without the board getting out if proportion (or what dims would you suggest me to get)?
I suggest calling the folks at Lost to customize your 96
Will do! I was also wondering, which quiver has less overlap in your opinion: RNF96 - Pyzalien2 or Seaside - Pyzalien2?

Hey Noel! I'm thinking about picking up an RNF 96 but I'm torn between a 5' 3" or 5' 4". I'm 135-140lbs at 5'5" and surf in the Bay Area (Mainly OBSF/Pacifica beach breaks). Currently I surf a Pyzel Gremlin at 5' 5" (28L) and that feels like it always has enough float, but I'm concerned the 5' 3" RNF might be a little too small. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Hi Noel, my daily driver is a pyzel phantom. As you say in your review, amazing board. I'm intermediatte level surfer and now i'd like another one for weaker and smaller conditions. I'd like a really user friendly, versatil, easy and fun board. Watching your reviews i'm considering RNF96, but there're lots of options. Rocket wide, phoenix, pyzel gremlim, puddle jumper hp, astropop, .. What model do you recommend me? EPS or PU?
Thanks a lot! Amazing reviews and incredible job!
I like the 96, Gremlin, White Tiger. EPS for sure
Thanks a lot Noel! I analyze the three models and my bet is the rnf96. It grovels and it seems that it's really versatile and easy.
Anyway, my pyzel phantom (pu) is 31 liters. For the rnf96 (eps) also 31? If i go to 5'8, it's 32. Although it's for summer and weaker waves, i think that it could be too much. What's your opinion?
Thank you again!
@@user-pq9en5lk4q if your Phantom feels good at the volume you got then go the same on your 96 in EPS. If you like a bit more float in your Grovelers you can go up 1L.
Thank you so much for the advice Noel! Keep doing your reviews. They're incredible helpful. Thanks!!
Hi Noel
Great review but my mate said the RNF redux is more performance than the RNF 96. Just not sure which board to get any comment on the comparison between RNF redux or RNF 96.
Cheers
96 is next level fun and performance in small to well overhead surf.
Hi Noel, thank you for this epic review! I’m 5’6 and 150-155lbs, intermediate transitioning to advance surfing, mainly riding a 5’7 27.5L shortboard. That board requires me to be in tip top shape though. Looking out for a groveler for 1-4ft mushier waves, torn between getting a 5’5 or a 5’6 or even a 5’7, what do u think? Need a bit more volume for a daily driver. Thank you!
Make it easy on yourself… go up roughly 1L or so.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 sweet, will keep this in mind. Thank you for the response Noel!
Hey Noel. There’s a great deal for a used rnf 96 for sale that I really want. It’s 5’5” x 19.75 x 2.5. 30 L poly.
I’m a 26 year old intermediate/advanced surfer in SD. I can perform good turns, carves, snaps etc, but not advanced enough to do air revos and stuff like that. I usually ride 27 L shortboards I guess, but I ride a mostly handshaped twinnies and I don’t know the liters of most of my boards.
I am 5’10” and I weigh 150 lbs. I’m worried that this board is going to feel too stiff under my feet and wanted to know your opinion about riding this rnf at 30 L. Thanks! Love your videos
Some liter ranges at your weight to consider.
Pro/Expert 24-26L
Advanced 26-28L
Intermediate 29-31L
If the board is a really good deal then you can try it for cheap and if it’s too big you can sell it for what you bought it for. I really see no risk here….
Cool thank you!
Just grabbed this board I'm siked! Not sure if I should go for your HP twin set (would these work with the stabilizer in your store? ) or the fcs ii MR with trailer? Any thoughts?
My HP Twins go mental in the 96. So do my Pivot Twins + Trailer. You will not need a trailer with my HP Twins… you can shred it purely as a Twin Fin
@@surfnshowreviews7777 I already purchased the pivot + trailer and your traction pad. Coming from twin fins already I wanted to give the trailer a shot. I can always ride them as a twin too so best of both worlds. Your knowledge helped me find the perfect board, appreciate your show. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with everyone.
Hi Noel! Trying to decide between Rnf 96 and rocket wide squash… all around board to complement my neck beard 2
Go 96… it will compliment your quiver well. It shreds small waves as a Twin Fin or it will shred well overhead surf as a Thruster. It surfs best as a Twin Fin+ Trailer in most waves.
Hi there! How would you compare it to nb2, one of my all time favorites…. Is it also for heavy back footed surfers? Cheers!
NB2 is faster and a little more radical. The D2 is silky smooth as a Quad
Hey Noel , Rnf pu for waco ? Should go good ?
Hey Noel will there be a retro tripper review?
Great vid Noel! How’s the feel difference between the RNF96 and the Fishbeard? Been eying both. Also do you think the RNF would be a good air board for Waco? Seems fast and springy in light speed.
I like the shredding pure twin fin boards so the FB is my choice. The 96 will do better airs though. Both boards are epic
@@surfnshowreviews7777 thx. Just picked up a RNF96 and so far one session in is a really fun board. Stoked to see how it goes at Waco on the air wave in a few weeks!
Hey Noel thanks for the great reviews! I'm looking for a rnf in Libtech construction. I'm 164 lbs, usually surf in small weak waves and 4/3 wetsuits. Should I go for the 5.7 or 5.9 in your opinion? Thanks !!
Your volume range is 33-35L
@@surfnshowreviews7777 thanks

Does this board size up well? Im in my 50's and over 200 pounds looking for a shortboard/hybrid style board for east coast? My last board was a 6'2 FW Evo at 46 liters - really liied it just ready for a change? Thanks so much!
Get the RNF 96 for East coast shredding.
How would the Al Merrick twins work on this board with or without the trailer? Would hate to have to buy more twin fin sets.
Maybe fun without the trailer in 1-2’ surf. Not enough hold in 3-6’ surf with that fin.
what do you think are the main differences between your P-twins + 1 and HP twins? Is it still fun to ride P-twins without + 1 too?
Yes… you can ride my Pivot Twins purely as a Twin in some boards. It really depends on fin placement and bottom contours. My Pivot Twins are similar size to the EN’s (Futures) and Power Twins (FCSII) but offer a little more hold due to base and template.
The main difference between my HP Twins and Pivot Twins is fin size and fin area. My HP Twins are bigger and offer a lot more hold.
hi Noel, i'm buying a twin + trailer Fcs2 fins for the RNF96, which one would you recomend? Akila, MR or Twin power? Thank you so much
MR’s
Hey legend ... hope you are having a great start of the week!!! Big fan of your work!!! just wondering how this board compares to the LSD Twinnie .. thanks heaps!!!
The 96 is way more versatile… it can shred 1-8’+ surf. You can rip it as a Twinny, Twin + Trailer, and Thruster. The 96 is the best hybrid board I have ever ridden.
The LSD Twinny is fun and it might be a tad faster but the 96 out performs it in the pocket and versatility
Thank you for the reply.. I am an experienced/intermediate surfer 1.66 cm and 67kg I have a holly hypto 5' 7 26.7 l .. I'm getting a 5'4" 27.2l RNF 96 any thoughts? Thank you 🙏🏽
@@gabrieldacruz6515 similar volume to your Holy Hypto

Hey Noel or anyone,
Have you guys tried the Evil Twin fins on the 96, or any other board for that matter??
I have a chance to buy either the 2+1 mayhem ET set new for $100, or a cheap set of aipas twins for 60 used in good cond.
Theres also a new set of the gray amt 2+1 set for $60. And a 2+1 rasta set for $100
Im in hawaii so i can find pretty much any fin set. Price is no factor in this situation, not sure why i mentioned prices lol.
So,
Any recommendations?
Im not an experienced twin surfer but i do like the feel.
Im a 5'9 185-ish lb. thruster guy on a 5'5 rnf 96 my go-to futures set is am2's
Get the Aipa set.. they are fiberglass. You will need a stabilizer too

How would you compare the rnf as a twin to the sharpeye turbo twin ?
The Turbo Twin will out perform the 96 in the pocket do you the Twin Turbo’s performance outline.

Noel which would you choose as your daily driver between the rnf 96 and the swordfish please? Got both in my radar and feel like they fit the same category from your reviews thanks as always keeping up the stoke 🤙Jon
96 by a mile. Swordfish is no smooth from rail to rail and its wave range is not nearly as good as the 96z
@surfnshowreviews1977 thank you very much. I genuinely really appreciate the time you take to write replies🤙💯👊
Hi Noel, wonder if you could help me with this question.
I feel comfortable in 2ft - 4ft surf.
I am confused about which board category to pick, there are small wave boards rated from 1ft-4/5ft and there are medium wave boards rated 2ft-6ft. I wonder how 2ft-6ft rated board would feel on 3ft-4ft surf to compare with small wave board?
To elaborate with an example, Lost rnf96 is suitable for 1ft-5ft waves, Lost Uber/Driver2 is suitable for 2ft-6ft.
Thanks!
If your surfing 2-4’ surf then picking a boards like the 96 will offer way more speed and be easier to surf due to less overall rocker

Go 5’9 for sure
Thanks! Keep up the great videos
Hi Noel, I just watched your modern 2 review. How would you compare rnf96 with the modern 2? Looks like the main difference is the bottom contours.
Which one would you pick? Thanks again.
I like the 96 way better. It’s more versatile in smaller waves and overhead surf too. I also like that you can shred the 96 as a pure Twinny
@@surfnshowreviews7777 Noel you are a legend, thanks mate.
Great question
I’m 5’9” 190lbs and trying to decide between the 5’6” 29.5 ltrs or the 5’7” 31ltrs.I’m wondering if the 5’7” will be too long for my height. What’s your suggestion? BTW love your reviews and have helped me out a lot buying new boards.Thank You!
Volume range for your weight at different skill levels are below.
Pro/Expert = 30-32L
Advanced = 32-34L
Intermediate = 35-37L
These are just suggestions that work great for many surfers that I help. If you like your boards more sensitive and you know exactly what you want then choose your volume closer to that. I personally like my Grovelers, Small Wave PB, Daily Drivers, and HPSB’s at roughly the same volume range 25-27L for myself. The 5’6” at 29.5L seems a bit on the low side for you…. I say 5’7”.

what’s your opinion on the rnf 96 poly vs rnf 96 light speed?
PU for choppy smaller waves to overhead waves. Lightspeed for small waves to 4’ surf
Noel, I'm riding with 2+1 MR fins. I'm keen to try another 2(+1) fins set. Do you have any recommendation?
If you want a little more drive and hold check out the Power Twins+1
My dhd Phoenix is 5.10 @35 ltrs
And is epoxy
The rnf I got was 5.9@33.5 ltrs
And floats the same as my dhd
If I had gone the 35 lts on the rnf it would have been way to floaty
Hope this helps someone out there .

Hi Noel,
As usual your knowledge is above and beyond.
I found gold thanks to your knowledge sharing and one more time thank you for your hard work.
I am 5'11 and average 177 pounds and I am 47 years young :)
In one of your knowledge sharing's you mentioned that for a regular human/surfer like us using a large fins will help and indeed it helped me big big time.
Will this advise applies to this surfboard? I am debating to go with Medium fin and going large, thoughts?
I want to try Twin+1 and these are the option:
Mayhem Evil Twin+1 in Medium
Mayhem Evil Twin+1 in Large
plan C = anything you recommend
Board: 5'10 - 21.25 - 2.6 - 36.75 (Wide Dims) will love a 40lts
I will normally surf beach break and sometimes point break, the biggest will be head high been average chest high.
Any recommendations will be kindly kindly appreciate it.
Thank you so much and have a wonderful week.
You will love my Pivot Twins + Trailer. Check them out here…

Go with the Large Twin + Trailer
Love the show! If you ran this as a thruster would you be looking for more of a pivot set due to the flat rocker?
Yes… a Large Pivot set or Neutral Thruster size Large
Thanks Noel, appreciate the reply! Just picked one of these up based on this great review, have never had a twin and was curious about optimal rear pad placement. Also how much will it differ if it’s ridden at twin+ trailer, twin alone, or thruster? Any insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey Noel!
Inspired by your videos, Im building a 3 board quiver, please let me know what you think.
Im 183 80kg
Surfing beach and point reef breaks. Ranges at 1 - 3 ft on summer and 3 - 5 on winter. 90% of the time these are the conditions. When a perfect timed swell comes whe can get up to 8 ft.
For a groevler, I cant decide between the RNF or the BV2
As a daily driver I got a Squas Mini Ghost
My high performance board for really big days is a driver 2.0
Could you help me? I already got the MG and the D2.0! Looking for a summerboard now! Thx!!
Or maybe in your opinion the MG could get that groevler category covered? Thanks again!
BV2 Carrie’s more speed compared to 96. If the waves are 1-3’ and mushy go BV2.
Can’t decide between MG squash and rnf96 as a 1 board quiver for east coast, thoughts?
96 is a bit more versatile… if you surf 1-3’ most of the time then go 96. The MG Squash is epic but you will work harder for speed in 1-2’ surf.
