Interesting those AMK fins you loved are near identical to the Futures fiberglass twin fins that came with my old Xanadu Wave Rocket in the Tuflite construction by Surftech. As I've mentioned before, I've been surfing it in all kinds of conditions in the 2-6' range (Hawaiian scale) here on Oahu and it handles/holds really well without sliding out. I tried the Rastavich fins surfing some point breaks in Nicaragua and they were more for speed and cutbacks vs pivoting in the pocket like the AMK style fins. If you get a chance, reach out to Xanadu and do board reviews on the Wave Rocket 1 vs 2. Cheers Noel for the continued solid board reviews

I just thought I’d throw it out there since you liked the Rasta twins but felt like you needed a bit more stability. I haven’t been riding quads that long but love the AM large fronts as well as the FireWire fronts but I had to make my own rears that would keep the board playful because the stock rears of those sets just didn’t to the trick & the glass flex is pretty easy to cut, file and sand. Not knocking the R&D and tech of the factory product, I just couldn’t find a set of four that I liked. Thanks for your awesome reviews!!!

I hope it wasnt too painfull for you to read this, english is not my native language
MrShmilblic Your English is fine... a good rule of thumb is take your weight and divide it by 6. Example my weight is 160lbs divide that by 6 and my liters are 26.6. That would be on the high side for me but it’s close enough. On another note I use the liters as a guide to board dims. I don’t like longer boards.., they make me feel like I am surfing in slow motion... hard to turn and make them fit in small pockets. I have not tried that model sorry.
J0llygiant They look pretty good. For me it’s all about fin depth for more control on these wide tail boards. A fin with a bit more rake will help with that too.
Maybe… they might not offer enough hold backside. I suggest my HP Keels. They offer excellent performance, hold, and drive. Check them out here… surfnshow.com/products/surf-n-show-hp-keels-twin-fins
Can’t help feeling like there’s a bit too much width in the nose compared to the sleek, double side cut back third of the board and that it gets hung up in the lip when going too vert. It looks like the tail + sidecuts pushes you to go high performance but then the nose + swing weight let’s you down. Just an observation. Otherwise great info on the different tech’s, fins and even tailpads!
867 5309 sorry but disagree, traditional Lis style fishes have a wider, more parallel bottom half and are meant for glide and horizontal surfing which is not so much the case for this board.
@@valdo9482 For sure, but you originally said this fish had too much width forward and my point was that's how a fish gets its glide and that the width forward on this Lost fish is minimal compared to a Steve Lis fish.
Valdo van Zyl My comment I said it was designed for vertical surfing... I meant it’s NOT designed for vertical surfing. Sorry for any confusion. I also fixed my comment.
Surf n Show Reviews Appreciate the response and insight. Would you recommend one over the other for someone with a skill set of sub-intermediate and looking to step into their first short board from riding 7ft mini mals? Looking for something that can provide some forgiveness as I learn and the range to have fun in east coast summer slop but also confidence venturing into 5-6 ft waves when it picks up. Any other boards you’d recommend over these two? Thanks again, and as a new comer to your channel, I can’t get enough!
Kevin McMinn A lot of good Boards to choose from for you. Have a look at the LOST/MR CA Twin, CI Ultra Joe, Pyzel Astro Pop, and Machado Seaside. All of these boards will go good.... remember foam is your friend as you step down to a shorter board. Cheers
Hey Great Video man. I’m a beginner/intermediate and was wondering how you would compare this to the FireWire Seaside? I’m leaning more towards this but wanted someone else opinion who actually knows what there talking about. Thank you!
Hey Noel, awesome review! I'm looking at getting one but I've never ridden fishes! I currently ride a 6'4 shortboard and I'm 6'3 and weigh around 180. What size of the RNF Retro would you recommend me? Cheers and keep the reviews coming!!
A few of us were waiting for a review on this design. How does it compare to CI twin? Has Chad at Patagonia in Encinitas asked u to review the Rasta Twin? He said he would. Ive also had my eye on that. Ithink it's called Torus
IzandEva Inmyheart This Board is a Quad first of all but it performed very well as a twin. I was shocked it went so well with no center fin too. The CI Twin is a really fun board but it has small center fin so it has a little something to pivot off of and it has a bit more High Performance feeling because of it. This Retro Fish goes really good as a Quad.... you can really push hard on your turns and it has incredible hold. I have not heard from anyone on a request for the Rastavich Twin. Sounds fun to me... who shapes that board?
@@surfnshowreviews7777 Gary Mcneill I believe he is David Rastovich's main shaper. There are a couple yt vids where he explains their partnership and unique designs using unique materials. I've held the Torus in my hands a few times. It just has that incredible feel of craftsmanship and shredability. Inspired by George Greenough bottom I believe. Also Pategonia says they're selling like crazy. Mcneilinstagram.com/garymcneillconcepts/?hl=en
IzandEva Inmyheart Now that you mention it I do remember the introduction to McNeill. Sorry... I reached out to McNeill roughly a month ago... he didn’t seem to into our show. He also wants me to pay for boards. I don’t think a review on his boards is going to happen for a while. Sorry
Thanks for another great review. You had the DHD Twin & Mini Twin a while ago with the intention of reviewing them, I have been waiting. Are they still coming? Would love to see your review of them. Would like to know how they compare to the RNF as a twin as well?
Ken Kohncke The Folks at DHD changed their minds on giving me those two boards for review. I had them on order and they said sorry not sending them. Bummer... those boards look so fun. Cheers
Xabier xabi Well the GO Fish is designed as a true Twin Fin and this Retro Fish is designed to be a Quad so there are two major differences right there. For me this Retro Fish was very easy to surf and had excellent traction as a Quad. It also had great traction with the CI Keel fins but it was a bit out of control with the Rasta Twin set up. The GO Fish was difficult for me to surf at first but front side I felt like I was starting to figure it out. Back side I couldn’t stop it from sliding out on my turns. I think if I spent more time on the GO Fish I would really enjoy surfing it. Between these two boards as twin fins the Retro Fish was easier for me to surf.
Noel...Awesome review as always!!! For a groveler can you speak about this board vs Pyzel Gremlin? How would performance differ? Is one better for 1-3? Which did you prefer? Aloha
-Prem This Retro Fish will Grovel good but it’s not meant to be a performance Fish. It’s more of a classic design with made for speed and big carves. The Gremlin is a high performance Groveler... pocket surfing, carves, airs, etc.... The Retro Fish has great maneuverability rail to rail but it’s not really designed for pocket surfing. Most fishes aren’t.
Hey Noel thanks for the great review. I’m looking at this board and the Machado Go Fish and was wondering if you could give any feedback on noticeable differences in the way they surf and wave range/type?
Nick Siebenmorgen The GO Fish was a tough surf for me... my first Twin Fin ever. I had a hard time getting traction on my turns but if your used to surfing Twin Fins I am sure you will Shred it. The Retro Fish as a Quad is epic... fast, responsive, and good traction. I could push hard on my turns as a Quad. Using the Keel fins as a Twin Fin was next level fun for me. Good traction and really fun. The Retro Fish is really versatile and easier to surf and you can run all kinds of fin set ups too. Cheers
The CI Fish is one of the hardest Twin Fins I’ve surfed to get two good turns in a row without the nose catching. My least favorite boards.. This RNF Retro Fish is fast and fun.... I recommend the RNF Retro.
Noel got a 5 7 lined up managed to pick one up second hand. Actually think the extra foam will be fun. Anyway my question please is out of the keels you used which would you recommend the most? I personally thought you went best on the channel island but don't want to sway your thoughts. Thanks again Jon P.s when you coming to surf in the UK is pumping currently 🤙
Last one I promise but can't seem to source any amk future keel fins anywhere. Trevor Hocking That Board is not on our review list at this time. Lost has a few new models coming out for 2019 and we have those on order for review. Sorry
marcos2305 Seaside is a bit more performance and the Retro Fish has a more classic vibe. The Retro will still do performance turns but it has a more classic outline.

Love the review. If you could only get one, would you go rnf retro or firewire seaside?
Kevin McMinn RNF has a more classic vibe to it. Seaside offers a little more speed and performance
Thank you!
The Seaside is easier to shred. It paddles better, it’s faster, and has a bigger sweet spot so it’s more forgiving. I suggest the Seaside
Another great review Noel! Are you able to get your hands on the new CI Fish as well? Would be a great comparison!
Karl Jakobsson I hope so!!
Do you think a lower intermediate could ride it? 5’8 160 pounds. Maybe a stock 5’11?
Charles Hawk Absolutely
Hey Noel, awesome review! I'm looking at getting one but I've never ridden fishes! I currently ride a 6'4 shortboard and I'm 6'3 and weigh around 180. What size of the RNF Retro would you recommend me? Cheers and keep the reviews coming!!
Barmat I would go maybe 1 liter more than your short board.
Surf n Show Reviews okay great, what about the size?? I was thinking on a 5’11 maybe
Barmat If that’s the liters you like... is your normal HPSB roughly 38 liters?
@@surfnshowreviews7777
Gary Mcneill
I believe he is David Rastovich's main shaper.
Sorry
@@surfnshowreviews7777
Oh well....plenty of other boards in the sea to review
Thanks for another great review. You had the DHD Twin & Mini Twin a while ago with the intention of reviewing them, I have been waiting. Are they still coming? Would love to see your review of them. Would like to know how they compare to the RNF as a twin as well?
Ken Kohncke The Folks at DHD changed their minds on giving me those two boards for review. I had them on order and they said sorry not sending them. Bummer... those boards look so fun. Cheers
Thinking the same about the js monsta8. Been waiting......... Cheers for detailed reviews.
EN d I am working on the Monsta 8 review right now. Hang tight guys...
Comparing the go fish and this board what the difference and what feels better
Nice, thanks.... waiting now to see the midas surf board
Thanks Noel! Really appreciate the reply.🤙🏽
Careful, you may end up like shred show and get hired by one of these companies😉
Vaughan Heilman Chris Grow’s Shred Show is epic!!
Dude, I was thinking the same thing lol
*was epic 😔
Another nice review! Did you prefer this board or the Puddle fish?
Jean-Simon Lamarre This Board has a more classic feel compared to the Puddle Fish. The Puddle Fish has a bit more performance feel to it.
That spiral grip wax stuff looks cool, what is it?

Awesome review …. Top..
Cheers
Hey Noel how does it compare to the Channel Islands Fish?
The CI Fish is one of the hardest Twin Fins I’ve surfed to get two good turns in a row without the nose catching. My least favorite boards..
This RNF Retro Fish is fast and fun.... I recommend the RNF Retro.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 thanks Noel. That’s much appreciated. Can you use the Al Merrick keels on the Lost?
@@tieganmaixx yes

Really fun board
Mate, how come the right tail piece is much lower than the left one (left board on the wall) ?
Mathieu Revel there pretty close when I put them on.
Noel do you think this board in a legitimate twin fin configuration would go bananas?
Just so so… the 96 is way better as a Twin
Can u review the Firewire Midas please.
Monty8eight Firewire said there not sure they want a review on that board at this time sorry.
Interesting. More telling then a review itself. Keep ripping.
Noel got a 5 7 lined up managed to pick one up second hand. Actually think the extra foam will be fun. Anyway my question please is out of the keels you used which would you recommend the most? I personally thought you went best on the channel island but don't want to sway your thoughts. Thanks again Jon
P.s when you coming to surf in the UK is pumping currently 🤙
Jon Kennard I like the CI Keel fins for sure. The Rastavich fins felt a little too loose and hard to control.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 Noel thank you very much I'll let you know how it goes 🤙
Last one I promise but can't seem to source any amk future keel fins anywhere. I have emailed CI but this look pretty similar without seeing the amk stats

Jon Kennard CI has them in stock but they have them in True Ames. That’s what I used for this review, but Futures will be making them and they will be available This December on the Futures website.
If you want a True Ames set now give them a call.
Hey Noel
Awesome review again have not missed one yet, not for this board but just wondering l don’t think l have seen you in a review with the Julian Wilson fin from FCS, any particular reason?
Keep up the great work my credit card provider loves you!
P.S. any chance of a review on the lost beach buggy 2?
Trevor Hocking I have not had a board with FCSII plugs in a while. I am starting to try them now in the new Air Core Tech. Hang tight.
How about the beach buggy 2? I have one n would like to see your thoughts?
Trevor Hocking That Board is not on our review list at this time. Lost has a few new models coming out for 2019 and we have those on order for review. Sorry
Do you plan to test Tomo’s Hydronaut?
Seaside OR CI Retro Fish? Thanks
marcos2305 Seaside is a bit more performance and the Retro Fish has a more classic vibe. The Retro will still do performance turns but it has a more classic outline.
None of this is 70's surfing LOL! I love fish. On that list for next year
monkeypawism I want more of that 70’s vibe in my surfing on boards like this. Cheers
@@surfnshowreviews7777 I meant to say "ripping" way more than 70's. I understand your comment now.
Review the Channel Islands Semi-Pro 12!!!
Calvin Cameron That’s an older model... do you have one? Your the only surfer asking for that board to be reviewed.
Surf n Show Reviews hahaha yeah about to buy one
Hey man, whats the name of the intro song? loved it
Cold Tech The song is called Maybeline by Ron Artis II. I put the song name and Artist at the beginning of every review.....

What's a spiral V?
Eric Disque This re-curved area at the bottom edge of the rail begin to “spiral” as it move downward and inward toward the stringer, hence the name, “spiral vee.” Belly. Bellied, or rolled, bottoms are generally rounded convex features. They can be subtly rolled, or highly domed.
Quality!
Noel needs to do a average Joe show for boards that allow the average joe to up their game.
