    • @miaj7674
      @miaj7674 Год назад +35

      @@hasinuz8930 if you haven’t already done it then you can argue that the future is only set because of the witches prophecies. Without them Macbeth wouldn’t have killed the king therefore the events of the play would not have taken place. Macbeth does have the power to change the future but will not as he believes he must follow the prophecies.

    I love how creative some of the productions are with how the witches are portrayed. In one version I saw, the 'maid' witch, that is to say the youngest one, was portrayed by a boy. Just a regular young schoolboy type in a Druid-style robe, not a guy doing drag. And in the TV series "Oz," they're portrayed as English judges with white wigs and black robes, while in Patrick Stewart's version they were nurses.

    I have to say this reminds me of the story of Croesus, king of Lydia. When he consulted the oracle in Delphi they said that "a great empire will fall if you attack Persia". He concluded that this meant the persian empire would fall, but in fact, Lydia was conquered by the persian. It's the same situation as it is a matter of interpretation.

    Thank you, Easy 'as, A truly wonderful episode. This was Shakespeare's homage to King James (the Bible Guy), to give him a British heritage (through Banquo and Fleance), when in fact James was Celtic. The historical Macbeth killed Lady Macbeth's husband when she was 14 years old and with a one year old child ("I have given suck") after her husband killed Macbeth's father. Lady M. and her child became Macbeth's 'property'. Macbeth had a 17 year reign. He was considered a pious, benevolent Scottish King who became King of England with the Unification of England and Scotland. Gruoch's son, Luloch, was crowned after Macbeth's death. He was assasinated a few months later. One of the ironies of the play is that Lady M feared Macbeth would go mad. He did not; she did.

    This story means two different things depending on if your an English major or a theatre major

    • @icel8828
      @icel8828 2 года назад +3

      @Kombat Mortal the English major would be more safe

      @Kombat Mortal I’m just going to tell you what it means in theatre
      Basically. The play is considered to be cursed. To the point where the mere mention of its name causes panic in everyone

    • @icel8828
      @icel8828 2 года назад +1

      @Kombat Mortal I wouldn’t know. Most theatre students avoid it as much as possible.

    In act1 scene1 Banquo was not interested in the witches only Macbeth is. Banquo advices Macbeth to stay away from them

    • @easyasgcse
      @easyasgcse  3 года назад +6

      Hi David, thanks for the comment! You're absolutely right that Banquo has a healthy distrust of the witches in Act 1, but I would argue that he does have an interest in what they say since he asks them to address him directly and tell him what the future holds. Additionally, in Act 2, Scene 1 he admits that the witches have been in his dreams and have even sparked 'cursed thoughts' in his mind, which shows that their words must have affected him more than he outwardly portrays. Of course, this video is just a very brief summary of Macbeth so only the main points are covered, but if you are interested, check out the link below for a more detailed analysis of Banquo!
