I made a silverware organizer from pine some weeks ago. Didn't make anything fancy and used butt joints with nails, but it's a lot better than the old plastic ones. Maybe I'll make them again from hardwood and proper joints in the future. I'll save this video for reference. Thanks, James.
Looks good, James. Nice design. And a timely video - I'm in the middle of making one for our silverware drawer and it's nice to see another one done - it's like having a practice run. Thanks!
This is an awesome build that I'm going to have to save for later. My family's silverware drawer is so cluttered with different things that I've been thinking of making a double decker when I get the chance. We currently have two plastic silverware organizers stacked up that are too short and don't work that well together, but every space is pretty much filled to overflowing. Silverware, tea balls, measuring spoons, paring knives, skewers and chopsticks, flat graters, a can opener, and even those plastic straw-lids for mason jars make the whole drawer way too crowded, and the spoons are always trying to sneak in with the forks. And it doesn't help that the whole drawer just rests on a pair of 1x1s without proper full-extension drawer pulls, which could mean I have to rebuild the whole drawer when I can find the time.
this same frustrating experience led to my very first woodworking project years ago. Similar design too, only mine is starting to fall apart a little because I oiled all the pieces before glue and assembly to make it easier. Maybe it's time to rebuild!
James you are much more ambitious than I. We decided to renovate our kitchen during “quarantine” (I never actually quarantined since I work for a DoD supplier). Rather than do all this work I just threw out our silverware and declared all food is finger food. 😁🤣
That is really neat , once I tackled my first chiseled dado I was hooked . So if you used a big joiner plane on it , could it be used for " flatware " ? Drops mic 🎤
It was great to watch you use only hand tools for this project. Thanks for the video.
Literally about to make one of these! Impeccable timing, sir!
Glad to help. And congrats on first.
That is slick. It fits the island way better than the plastic. I carve spoons and stuff so I have a lot of cherryware lol.
Great job James. Looks like it was always there.
It's so much better! Thanks honey! 😘
The dados are really well executed and will work so well for many years to come!!

One thing to note, I made mine like a tray, so I can remove it from the drawer with all the silverware inside it.
Fancy meeting you here

Perfect timing James. Just looked at our messed up cluttered draw. Off to the workshop after your great video
Love it! Now you just need to install some full extension ball bearing drawer slides to make it perfect.
That is on the list.

Awesome...! Thanks for that, I will do that as spoon as possible for my own stainlesssteelware 👍
thank you James

Looking good!
Loved it!!!
What type of wood would I get for this?
Whatever you want. For something like this lumber choice is not that important.
