You reminded me so much of myself when I was applying to college back in 2018. I graduated two years ago and just wanted to give you some advice. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHERE YOU GO TO COLLEGE as long as you get that degree because, at the end of the day, you're going to have the same degree as someone who went to a public college. I believe you are on the right path and possess a multitude of talents beyond just being an influencer. P.S: love your videos
You go girl! Remember that the way you decide to improve yourself over this rejection instead of letting it consume you says way more about you that any university letter, keep going 💚
i really relate to what ur talking about. i'm a current high school senior who also got brutalized this admissions cycle and we're really similar in terms of stats, awards/ecs, and expectations placed on us. actually, when you said that point about expectations from others it really resonated with me. for me at least, rejections didn't make me feel like a lesser person; i know i worked my ass off in high school and i'm not going to discredit myself for demeaning elitist ideals. however, the thing that DID kind of crush me these past couple of months was growing up in an asian household combined with the weight of expectations from my friends. like, it's just hard having to tell people you got rejected after they really put their total faith in you. i think that's also related to asian ideals of shame that are unfortunately dumped onto us lmao but that's a whole other dissertation. anyways, i just wanted to say i love your videos and that your work ethic is insane. i originally always thought the "rejection is redirection" thing was bullshit, but the truth is we make our own opportunities - and you've done a stellar job of that independently esp with inkg1rl (like, hello?? your guys' tats and brand image are insane). you don't need some old ass admissions officer's yea or nay to succeed, trust
I love this! Also 18 yr old asian been rejected from most of my unis (I'm from england tho, not usa) and the making our own opportunities things is so true and well put! With our work ethic I am sure we will end up with an amazing career in whatever it is we want to do :)
This vid reminded me a lot of when I got rejected from and/or couldn't afford my dream schools when I was a HS senior in 2018. I ended up going to a public school in my state. While it wasn't well-known for what I studied, the level of rigor and number of opportunities are pretty much the same as other, perhaps more "prestigious," schools. Something else that you should consider if you're worried about finances, transfer acceptance rates, and beating FOMO is community college! It doesn't sound very glamorous, but it'll save you a ton of cash that you can put toward your business and modeling. You may also have a better chance of getting into a highly selective school when you transfer. You'll also be able to knock out all your GEs so that you can focus mainly on what you want to study later on. I also find that community college has more diverse and supportive students and professors. I'm actually in community college to prepare for grad school requirements right now, and as someone who went through the 4-year route already, the rigor, amount of support, and opportunities are basically the same because it's their job to prep you for a 4-year school.
Iyan, I just wanted to say that you are one of the most inspiring individuals that I am lucky to have met. hope I can remind you from time to time that the the people around you are truly lucky to be your friend, and the world is lucky to have someone like you! Also, people around you might have high expectations for you, but I like to think that is primarily because they recognize your potential and wish you nothing but the best! And frankly, college app decisions can be so random and unpredictable it's like wtf and also, these momentary results don't define anyone. What matters is we don't stop, take it slow, keep going and pursue our passions - which you are already doing so beautifully and amazingly to the extent it's hard to put in words, and you are inspiring many along the way. Thank you for being you, and always wishing the best for you, Iyan! Your biggest fan, James
Girl you’re literally incredible. I overcame application season this year too, and ik how hard it can be-the standards, comparison, and expectations. I was also in a top boarding New England school and honestly I don’t think it upped my chances getting into Ivy leagues because I went from being a big fish in a small pond to a big fish in the damn ocean. My friends back home who stayed in our private yet much more chill high school were able to get into colleges that I and other classmates were almost struggling to get into, even though the quality of my high school AND the students abilities overall were higher. So honestly, I think what’s more likely to get you in if you’re not a gpa monster is great essay writing, interview skills, recommendation letters, just packaging your creative endeavors “correctly” which sucks because the truly creative don’t give a damn about selling themselves in the “right way” to the college board.
don't worry honestly were in a hard time period atm and things will get better its very competitive now a days especially with jobs and school but i believe everything for you will turn out ok.
I kinda gave up on getting into a big college and just decided to go to a community college ( which I had no choice my gpa was not getting me into a dream school + I’m class of 22 and I took a break and I’m just going to college this year soo) , but I realized that so many people go to college for the experience and then some of the most successful people have dropped out and personally I just wouldn’t wanna waste my money on a top college when I don’t even know if I’ll stay full term …. yes depending on what you wanna do you might have to go to a certain college but if you know what you wanna do you can also achieve in a community college or a decent uni do that …you’ll get the same outcome as someone who went to a top college ….but I’m rooting for you cause I also understand doing everything you need to do and being disappointed in yourself cause you’ve worked hard and the people around you have helped you and unfortunately the unfortunate happens , but that’s also life sadly not everything comes through like you want it too sometimes …no matter what school you go too and what your future plans are we know you’ll succeed and just look at it as this was planned for you and it’ll be all worth it in the end .
My sister got in Penn with a 2.9 Gpa 😅 and my brother got in Fashion Institute of technology with a 3.2 , they selected her cause she shown her passion and stood out not just the fact she is smart or took a lot of AP, anyone can do that. You can go to college anywhere, but know what you want, if you go to a Ivy League you’ll have to focus more on your studies, than RUclips. The most you can do is doing blogs on your life honestly I feel like you could apply for FIT your good at editing.
Girlie, you are my absolute inspiration. I started modeling because of you. Is it going well? Idk yet. Probably won’t. But I tried because of YOU! Also, getting into a good school is so freaking random. And once you do it isn’t all sunshine and rainbows but I know you probably know that. It might seem that way but it isn’t. You are doing better than 99% of the people who got in and you know that queen.
Not her checking if the pockets are real 😭🤚 Slay queen, we love uuu Cheer up, your too passionate and talented to be stressing about education but I do hope everything falls into place for u and ik many opportunities will come ur way girl 💕
If you don't like where you end up, I think you would really like Smith College and they have very favorable transfer terms (same housing, same financial aid, aid for foreign students). I didn't end up there the first time and things worked out. I think it's more normal than people talk about.
I’m at one of those schools right now and trust me you dodged a bullet. All my classes are online and I’m paying so much money for what? The reason you pay that much is to network. And seeing all your vids and stuff seems like you can do that on your own! Keep posting 😊
diet soda is so bad for you Im ngl. Its even worse for you than normal soda because of all the artifical things in it. Probably not soda at all or heathy sodas.
Like the statistics on how many people get into the school or how easy it is to get into it.6% (I’m pretty sure it means it’s really hard to get into it)
@@bigman9731 right? from the video, it actually sounds like he has been supportive of her social media/modelling career. All he asks is for her to not neglect her academic side. He isn't wrong though about how if she wasn't serious about going to uni, she could have just gone to public schools instead of the $55,000+ he pays for boarding school every year. I don't think people realizes how expensive boarding school could be. Her one year of tuition is literally way more than what an average American makes in a year.
