Imagine being a 10 year old boy in the early 90s not long after this movie came out. Then you go spend the night at the friend's house who has Cinemax and Showtime and who's mom doesn't care what we watch or how late we stay up. Watching this movie back then is such a powerful childhood memory for me. This movie always takes me back there.
I hate to one up you, but imagine seeing this movie for the first time at age 12 in 1992.....whilst living in Hong Kong; before the walled city was razed

@naturaljapan7204 agree but van Damme has always been hard to work with going back to no retreat no surrender which is another movie they should do it's hilarious 😂
That blow to the nutz of the sumo wrestler while doing the split was what was used in the first Mortal Kombat arcade game with a fighter named Johnny Cage. Johnny Cage is Jean-Claude van Damme
When my aunt was 16, she had a huge crush on Jean Claude Van Damme and would always put this film on to look at him. Hell, she practically had just about half his films recorded on VHS tape😂
I was in the same room as him when I was 12 but didn't have the balls to approach him, he did seem like a nice guy from a distance though. He is much shorter in real life than he looks on film though, even at 12yo I was several inches taller than he was.
From what I gather, it's quite common that actors famous for villainous roles prove in real life to be the nicest of people. It's a comforting thought, for those optimists about humanity...and also a little scary in its implications about what the nicest people you know could have been capable of, given a nudge, earlier on, in a wrong direction. And remember, while life exists, that nudge is always a potential presence. 😈 😇
@geraldmorgan6906 well, he looks tall because the scenes are mostly shot from shoulder height, and also JCVD isn't the tallest guy either. Just has long legs compared to his actual height. ..
In art school art history class we went over to the ballet school for history of dance. They got one of the dancers to show us her feet. They were rough, totally black and blue and frankly disfigured looking.
This movie is so good I’ve been watching it since the late 80s and it never gets old this and kick-boxer just stand outs in van dams catalog of movies .great reaction bros .
You guys laughed and cheered like true veterans, this movie is such a cult classic. The sound track, the campiness, the acting, the story, it’s simply one of a kind. I remember when UFC first came out and I was like holy shi this is kumate! Also “fastest lunch ko 0.12 seconds” 😂😂😂😂😂
Some of the best (aka most absolutely batshit insane and hilarious) slow-mo facial expressions you'll ever see in any film. Ever. Worth watching for that reason alone.
This was one of my grandpas favorite movies and we would watch it all the time when I was a kid. Thanks for bringing me back to those days ❤ Next up you should watch “Best of the best”. Another 80s classic.
I was way way way too young to watch this movie but that’s what happens when your brother is 6 years older you and he really enjoyed this movie…. I fell for JCVD as a child. Still love him. This movie was just badass. The fighters were all awesome. This has the ultimate 80’s soundtrack with multiple montages… best ever.
So glad you guys loved this movie, man. I've bee watching this since I was 9 years old in third grade. They focused on the martial arts hardcore, so where the acting lacks, the movie delivers in BADASSSSS! I used to be able to do the splits between two chairs like Dux when I was a kid! I gotta get back to that! Love you guys, man.
Guys watch “nowhere to run” and “lionheart” Van Damme’s actually gives a great performance in both. Also he did basically another bloodsport called “the quest” but in that one it’s the best fighters from each nation and everyone has different styles.
Donald Gibb (Jackson) lives in the metro Detroit area. A buddy of mine did some landscaping work for him and when they met Gibb asked "You want a Bloodsport or Nerds 8x10?" Then he autographed it. My buddy said he was a super nice guy.
True I still love this movie. But he made up just as much B.S. as the guy Frank Abignale from "catch me if you can". Who is another fraud that lied his way into a movie deal
I wouldnt say 100%, he was a legit martial artist and proof that the kumite did take place and was a real underground tournament has come out within the last decade. When people started bashing Dux they claimed the kumite was fake and there was no record of it ever existing accusing dux of fabricating the whole thing. But evidence has come out prooving it was in fact real, so he wasnt lying about that. Now if he actually competed in it and specially his crazy record I don't know, but there's definitely truth to his story.
He’s such a legend. Bro this whole movie is little a fantasy in some dudes mind and they made it into a movie. That’s crazy 😂. But I’m all for it, love this movie.
Idk if you guys have watches Best of the Best yet but I highly recommend it. Honestly I love when you guys watch action and or martial arts films. You guys have been on a roll from day one. Keep up the great work. Imma fan for life ❤.

kickboxer and this are van dammes best, for me I put kickboxer 1. because its the one I watched first as a kid and it motivated me so much to get into martial arts but bloodsport is a very close second. Because of these two movies I ended up training taekwondo, wu shu kwan (chinese kickboxing) shotokan karate, tomiki aikido and although it didnt last long, I even tried capoeira.
YOU GUYS!!! Bloodsport has been my favorite movie my whole life. You two are my favorite movie reactors alive!! It was my birthday just the other day, and to come on RUclips and see this here has almost made me cry with joy. Thank you so much for this ❤
He also claimed he received a Medal of Honor, which there is no record of in the military. When people confronted him about it, he said it was a Halloween costume, LoL.
@filipohman7277 want to go esoteric? How about the Wolfman in Transylvania 6-5000. Starred Jeff Goldbloom, Ed Bagley Jr, Geena Davis, Gabriel Burns, and Michael Richards.
That's crazy! Last week I was searching for your reaction to this gem of a movie. I saw ur original video and laughed so hard at some of the reactions 🤣 I thought i was nutz...I couldn't find it and thought to myself "I KNOW THEY DID BLOODSPORT?!" you guys keep killin it
This movie was also the inspiration for the original Ultimate Fighting Championship. It was banned everywhere as the only rules where no biting, scratching, or grape shots. The modern MMA is a sanitized version of what it was. For another forgotten 80s gem try the "American Ninja" series.
Here are some recomendations, gentlemen! "Who am I?" - With Jackie Chan.. Do I need to say more? "No retreat no surrender" - Van Damme as the bad guy. This is the movie that made him real famous :D
Gentlemen, the city in the movie is called Kowloon walled City and it's no longer there , you have to look it up !!! There are so many mini and full-length documentaries here on RUclips. It was basically built by humans like A rat's nest over time just adding more and more, floors & walls on top of each other and more and more electrical wiring etc... there was basically no law except for what the private citizen gangs did, There was amateur dentists amateur doctors & surgeons, amateur pharmacists there was drug Labs, brothels ,strip clubs gambling houses opium dens, not to mention approximately 35,000 people living in one giant building basically.. you name it.. it was there.
Great choice! Had to go full Patreon with this. You guys gotta throw in JCVDs iconic Volvo commercial in your reaction that next time you do a film of his. Also, that last line about Chong Li playing MK while everybody else is playing SF was spot on!
It’s funny, I watched a whole bunch of Van Damme movies when I was growing up, and all I can really remember is how he did the splits in nearly every film he did.
The movie is great! The actors in it are fantastic! The only problem with this movie that you shouldn't believe the lie about the real life person behind it, that this movie is based on! Look into it!
23:52 During this scene Van Damme actually knocked the stuntman's teeth for real. I also hope that you will watch some more Van Damme movies :) Like Universal Soldier for example.
I wonder if y’all recall the menthol commercials. Someone placed the commercial audio over the scene where Jean-Claude is running from the officers. It fits perfectly.
I switch on the viddy, I notice you stout-hearted yeomen are examining _Bloodsport_ ...and a big silly grin springs to my face, unbidden. In no way did you disappoint. Thanks, fellas. 😎
I don't know if it is still up but there was a video of the small blonde guy who fought Jackson taking a bunch of photos with the crew. His role was small but he had a lot of fun!
It's such an badass movie. But another favorite Van Damme movie of all time has to be Hard Target. Hopefully, you guys can react to it one day. That'll be cool. BTW, I love your channel, a long-time subscriber. Awesome reactions.
Out of all the Van Damme films I think Double Impact is probably the one I'd recommend most. Bolo Yeung's also in that as well as some other of the same actors and it has split scenes with Van Damme playing two characters that's filmed pretty well for 1991. Gloriously cheesy with some excellent action set pieces. Well worth a watch albeit with some scenes that'll need editing out for YT.
Growing up I used be a big fan of Jean Claude Van Damme movies but looking back those movies have not aged very well. I would not be able to make myself watch this movie but I am looking forward to your reaction guys
stretching you're legs everyday and learning martial arts that involves kicking such as karate, kickboxing, taekwondo and many others improves you're flexability
Love bloodsport! Guys I was a little kid when I first saw this. As a kid I knew the sword was for winning the Kumete. Now don't know if I spell it correct!
Chong Li doesn't get enough credit for being an all time great villain... I have no idea why, but everyone who ever watched this movie remembers this guy
One of the few movies with a tournament, that let's you see the actual tournament. It's something many movies with a tournament simply skip, even when they are adaptions of tournament games. Another memorable detail are the different fighting styles, also something that is often shortened. Sadly they had to ruin it a bit by pretending to be based on real events.
Fun Fact: This movie is part of why Mortal Kombat exists. Ed Boon was obsessed with Van Damme, so much so that the first Mortal Kombat was supposed to be "Jean Claude Van Damme: The Video Game" but Van Damme didn't return Ed's call. So the game became Mortal Kombat.
You guys needs to listens to the live podcast of ‘how did this get made’ about ‘bloodsport’, it is one of the funniest things I’ve heard. Still love this movie 😊
I've got three Van Damme movies that you guys should watch. First would be Kick Boxer, It has Training Montages you want and Van Damme drunk dancing. Second would be Sudden Death, It's a Die Hard clone but it's fun. Plus, Van Damme fights somebody in a mascot costume, and finally I would recommend Cyborg. It's not what people would call a good movie but it's entertaining and a great revenge flick.
You ain't felt like a true warrior until you've roundhouse kicked the sideways shite out of a banana tree. I grew up in Egypt during the 90s, and I used to get smacked regularly for destroying the banana trees we had. They just didn't understand, it was for Van Damme!!
Iconic movie! Watch Hard To Kill next with Seagull. Classic! He made a few excellent films in the early days, regardless of where he is now. Those 5 or 6 movies he made in the beginning were awesome.
My brother and I loved this movie when we were kids. There is a similar movie that Van Damme also starred in called The Quest. Definitely recommend it if you haven’t seen it.
The Mortal Kombat franchise started as a video game for JCVD where Johnny cage is based on the man himself - including the infamous "package check", id argue the main inspiration in the explosion of fighting games in the next few years for games like Street fighter 2, Fatal fury, MK, etc was this film (with kung fu and other films as well)
A really great movie. Fyi "The Brick not hit back" is a Bruce Lee Pharse. Also this movie and Big Trouble in Litle Chine were the inspiration for Mortal Kombat game. Mortal Kombat was suppose to be a Van Damme game after the success of this movie. Van Damme inspired the Johnny Cage character (You see the split punch to the balls scene just like Johnny Cage). You should see other martial arts by Van Dame and others. Van Damme movies like Double Impact ,Cyborg, Lion Heart, Universal Solider, TimeCop. Especially I highly recommand you see "No Retrat No Surrender" (Van Damm is the bad guy in it) which is a kind of Karate Kid movie with much better fights. The actor who plays Chung Lee played with Bruce Lee in Enter The Dragon among other things
Fun fact; the line "brick no hit back" was a nod to bruce Lee who said a similar thing to the actor who played Bo in another movie. The other character was showing off his skills punching wood, and Bruce Lee remarks "Wood can't hit back".
To be fair they wanted Van Damme to play Johnny Cage, but he chose to play Colonel Guile in the Street Fighter live action movie instead. The other agent was Norman Burton, who played James Bond ally Felix Leiter in one of the Bond movies. Bolo's blowing his nose was a homage to Bruce Lee who did it in Enter the Dragon I think (in which Bolo starred too) There were a couple sequels to Bloodsport but without Van Damme. They starred Daniel Bernhard who was in the second Matrix movie, the first John Wick (the only guy who actually gives him trouble) and the Mortal Kombat Conquest TV series. Would recommend the original Kickboxer too (there were I think 4 sequels to that without Van Damme, starring Sasha Mitchell). A lot of similarity to this one, including training montage. Another similar movie would be Lionheart (1990) which is also known as "A.W.O.L." or "Wrong Bet." "The Quest" is kind of similar too (and has Roger Moore in it), but they moved a bit more towards adventure movie than just pure fighting. "Hard Target" is really good fun too but it's more an action movie. With Lance Henricksen and directed by John Woo.
Guys a VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR 2025 to you both AWESOME MEN and to your family and loved one's. I highly recommend these other JCVD films:- Double Impact, Universal Soldier, Hard Target, Wrong Bet ....etc Just to name a few.

But his 5th film, No Retreat, No Surrender (1986) is a true gem.

As a Belgian, I think that we all have here in Belgium a kind of sympathy, goodwill and even admiration for JCVD who was able to transcend his own modest socio-economic background through his determination, his hard work, his acceptance that failures are part of the process and his resilience in order to transform his own dream into his concrete daily reality, whether we accept it or not.
What are you talking about bot ?!?!

This made me feel like wanting to do martial arts myself.
It’s funny, I watched a whole bunch of Van Damme movies when I was growing up, and all I can really remember is how he did the splits in nearly every film he did.
Hey welcome back my brothers! Yes Bloodsport is awesome!! You want more Van Damme? Lionheart, Sudden Death and Replicant. I love you guys!!
This movie is a classic man! I was 8 years old when I first seen it in 1988. I have watched hundreds of times since!
Bloodsport, Kickboxer, and Lionheart are my ultimate JCVD movies
The quest cyborg was dope to
Glad u got to see this fellas :)
Thanks for putting this back up
I have been waiting for another Van-Damme film from y’all.
Whenever you see "based on a true story," in the credits of a movie, that basically means none of this stuff happened.
The key words, of course, being "based on".
_Plenty_ of leeway left in there for independent interpretation, wouldn't you say? 🧐
The movie is great! The actors in it are fantastic! The only problem with this movie that you shouldn't believe the lie about the real life person behind it, that this movie is based on! Look into it!

During this scene Van Damme actually knocked the stuntman's teeth for real.
Watched this movie 264 times when I was 16 begin of the 90's and together with a friend we tryed the moves of the fights in his living room.
alrighty... this was a good one when new..... yeah, is gonna be fun enjoying it again with ya after all these years. Rock on dudes!
I don't know if it is still up but there was a video of the small blonde guy who fought Jackson taking a bunch of photos with the crew. His role was small but he had a lot of fun!
This movie is right up our alley I'm sure this reaction will be gold lemme take my blinky and check it out 🧙🌚🪤
80’s and early 90’s soundtracks hit different!
Best movie based on a trust me bro story.
You guys watching Bloodsport, this I gotta see.
NEVER BACK DOWN Movie.
You will love and rewatch for the rest of your life.
You guys needs to listens to the live podcast of ‘how did this get made’ about ‘bloodsport’, it is one of the funniest things I’ve heard. Still love this movie 😊
‘Blood sport’ is Van Damme classic. I love it❗️
Ya'll should watch "The Quest" with JCVD. Favorite movie of his growing up. Fire reaction, Famski!
We grew up with the best movies
The story and the guy it's based on may be BS but it's still a fun movie and it did give us Mortal Kombat.
Best JCVD dance is in the movie breakin’, it’s in the beginning of the movie 😂
I would add Universal soldier, shit was great
You ain't felt like a true warrior until you've roundhouse kicked the sideways shite out of a banana tree. I grew up in Egypt during the 90s, and I used to get smacked regularly for destroying the banana trees we had. They just didn't understand, it was for Van Damme!!
the actor that plays Paredes is Tong Po in Kickboxer by the way, he had so much makeup in Kickboxer that is even hard to recognize him lmao
The first guy in the match in the shorts who won he is the one that plays Tong Poe in kickboxer
❤ JCVD one of my favourites of his is A.W O.L (also known as Lionheart as well as a few others, depending where it was released)
The Mortal Kombat franchise started as a video game for JCVD where Johnny cage is based on the man himself - including the infamous "package check", id argue the main inspiration in the explosion of fighting games in the next few years for games like Street fighter 2, Fatal fury, MK, etc was this film (with kung fu and other films as well)
Just an amazing movie. Score and fight scenes, some comedy. Awesome! The Dim-mak scene is amazing, should have shown it.
Best of the Best! The martial arts in that movie is amazballs!
Growing up with movies in the 80's and 90's our heroes most often didn't wear capes and muscle suits, no CGI either. Classics
Fun fact; the line "brick no hit back" was a nod to bruce Lee who said a similar thing to the actor who played Bo in another movie. The other character was showing off his skills punching wood, and Bruce Lee remarks "Wood can't hit back".
"Lionheart" from - 90, with Van Damme is cool, watch that one one VHS all the time as a kid
The fellow that breaks his leg is sat in the front row after his fight with no broken leg..😂 Bad continuaty 😂Still a great movie.
To be fair they wanted Van Damme to play Johnny Cage, but he chose to play Colonel Guile in the Street Fighter live action movie instead.
The other agent was Norman Burton, who played James Bond ally Felix Leiter in one of the Bond movies.
Bolo's blowing his nose was a homage to Bruce Lee who did it in Enter the Dragon I think (in which Bolo starred too)
There were a couple sequels to Bloodsport but without Van Damme.
Another similar movie would be Lionheart (1990) which is also known as "A.W.O.L." or "Wrong Bet."
"The Quest" is kind of similar too (and has Roger Moore in it), but they moved a bit more towards adventure movie than just pure fighting.
"Hard Target" is really good fun too but it's more an action movie. With Lance Henricksen and directed by John Woo.
Hard Target 2 is awesome as well
It would have been a shame to lose "I'm gonna kick that son of a bitch Bison's ass."
The guy he was blowing his nose to was a clone Bruce lee
Everytime you would say "Goddamn!" I got tired of having to say "No! Van Damme!"
Guys a VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR 2025 to you both AWESOME MEN and to your family and loved one's. I highly recommend these other JCVD films:-
Double Impact, Universal Soldier, Hard Target, Wrong Bet ....etc Just to name a few.
"OKAY, USA!"
