Kahn Noonian Singh in the original timeline was a product of the Eugenics Wars that happened on Earth. Him and his fellow soldiers/friends were all charged with war crimes, but instead of being put into cryo sleep, they are marooned on a planet barely livable. That happens during the Space Seed episode. This movie is the Kelvin Timeline version of Wrath of Kahn.
I believe in both timeliness the augmented superhumans still flee Earth on the Botany Bay. Side Canon says Admiral Marcus goes on a war preparation push and so it is him who finds the Botany Bay rather than Kirk leading to these events.
In Space Seed, Ceti Alpha 5 is a completely habitable planet. It's just that there are no amenities there, and Khan and his people will have to start from the stone age, basically. It isn't until Wrath of Khan that we learn the planet's orbit changed and Ceti Alpha V became nearly uninhabitable.
@@EMTedroni By the time of Wrath of Khan the planet is a wasteland though. Didn't he say they had abandon it for some reason or another to go to Ceti Alpha 4?
@ About a year after they were left on Ceti Alpha V, Ceti Alpha VI, for some reason, exploded and shifted the orbit of Ceti Alpha V. That's what turned their planet into a desert. Khan's people never had the chance to rebuild the technology to return to space, or build a proper society.
Peter Weller really rocks here too as the old starfleet general. I think the original film really nailed it, so this one falls a bit short in comparison.
I've seen this movie a bunch of times... and every time I wondered where I knew him from, but I always forgot to look him up... now I know why he was always so familiar xD

What's a Gorn? A large humanoid reptilian with teeth like a crocodile. Savage but very intelligent. First introduced in an episode of the original series. I think you'll like the next one. Simon Pegg who plays Scotty wrote it.
