HI! There's no "software update" icon on mysystem preferences.. I'm not sure why. I've been trying to download microsoft word but I can't inless my Macbook air is at least updated to 10.14. Pleas help :(

I have the MacBook Pro 10.13 and looks like because it’s an older model I can no longer update it any further. Microsoft word app cannot be installed unless on the newer devices version 10.15. I believe you can use word just via the safari

If it's upgraded to Catalina, how come it still shows the Mojave desert? Did you have to restore from Time Machine after the OS update?

Time machine is best because it stores the files in a format usable and easily readable by the mac. So you might want to do a time machine backup. In terms of loosing everything, you most likely won't as it keeps your files, but in the case that it does erase your files, which it might, you need to make a backup.
PK2, I'm trying to upgrade my"supported" iMac to Catalina, it failed twice... I have "Mavericks" installed. I've seen no indication of an error "jumping" from Mavericks to Catalina, and no "advice" how to "incrementally" approach the upgrade? What would you do? Thank-you!

Put your MacBook on recovery mode and reinstall macos, there’s a RUclips tutorial just search up “How to put MacBook in recovery mode”
installing high sierra on a standard HDD took nearly 15 hours. it’s not uncommon for these things to hang eternally with those drives. upgrade to SSD and pack it with RAM, it’ll blast through upgrades after that.

Yosemite does not have similar window for updating. When you click on About this Mac you will see software version which is OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 you will see Software update. You will that that there is no SO X Catalina. So this video is not helpful for Yosemite version of OS X.

1. for those running macOS Maverick 10.9 go to this link right here support.apple.com/en-us/HT211683 and then u want to get Mac OS Capitan 10.11 and download it after that go to that same link and this time select catalina and bam u got it on ur mac now i did this on my 2013 macbook so ik it works e.e
