A simple guide on how to install Catalina on Mac that is 'officially' too old to run the latest OS.

I was able to download and install but the install screen is still installing for 2 hours now. The install bar is almost complete. Any advice?

Ok y’all so he left out an EXTREMELY IMPORTANT detail in this otherwise beautifully explained video. When it’s time to restart. Hold option/alt the ENTIRE TIME it’s restarting. So hold option/alt THEN press restart. You’re still holding. When the screen goes black, you’re still holding. When it comes back on, you’re still holding. Then it’ll pop up,

I restarted my Mac but it just showing me my login screen where I see only my user name and option to enter password

@@astrael5000 Obviously I can't say for definite that your computer won't be affected as every computer is of differing condition and age, however, I installed perfectly fine on my late 2008 unibody MacBook aluminum and it was absolutely fine.

@@kurniaeka5324 Catalina runs 64bit vs the 32 of your old MS Office. Just buy a more recent version of MS Office for Mac that's 64bit. (We had the same issue.)

Thanks for this video, I was struggling because the downloads would start but then stall. I have high speed internet. I finally decided to lug my 2009 iMac upstairs and connect it directly to the router and voila, Catalina is now installed 😊

When your iMac was stalling, did you have to go back and restart the computer again to restart the process? My iMac has been currently sitting on the white loading screen for a few hours. I just plugged it in to the router. Should i restart the computer again?
@@alexandriamaddox2964 once I connected directly to the router the install continued successfully, can’t remember if there were any restarts.
Great video! Really grateful to the dosdudes team for giving the old macs an opportunity to upgrade to the latest OS. Apart from the outstanding and quick explanation youve given here, theres a couple of points missing. 1) WHILE RESTARTING, MAKE SURE YOU PRESS ALT TILL IT REACHES THE BOOT UP SCREEN ELSE YOU WILL JUST GET A REGULAR USER RESTART. 2) After youve done with the steps up until 4:30 in the video, you will be shown the same macOS utilities screen, which is missed here. Now select macOS post install and APPLY PATCHES in the subsequent window and just wait it out for the pc to do its thing and after a good 5-10mins it should reboot all by itself into your branch new macOS catalina!! Again, thanks for the quick and straight to the point video.

I have a int condition Macbook pro 17" mid 2009. I have tried this several times and it always gets stuck on minute 4 of install. I am at my wits end. What else do you think I can do. I have followed dosdudes video to a T. I ned some help.
So I restarted but the option to boot with the Mac OS usb option did not pop up what do I do 😢

Hi! First of all thanks so much for this video! I like my 2014 air because of its USB ports and sd slots and i really wanted to keep it for my GIS, so thanks to you i can now use my arcgis for studies! Quick question though, now that it is updated to Catalina it is now giving me the opportunity to update to Big Sur 11.6.1-12.43. If i update it will it be able to handle this update as well? Or should i stop at Catalina??
I think the patch will not let you update to Big Sur. I am unsure whether there is a patch for Big Sur but a Google should work that out. Perhaps run Catalina for a while and make sure it is stable before doing any upgrades.

Hello I would like some help please, I am on 10.13.6 and have iMac 12.1
I am updating using Mojave. I have am at the section where you use the BOOT MENU and have to erase the HDD. But I have so much work that I need to keep.
Please can you let me know if I can use the time machine to back up my files whilst I am using High Sierra, and restore these files when I have updated to Mojave?

Do the DosDude installers erase the data on the harddrive? Or is it an 'update'?

Hi, thank you for your very interesting video showing how to install macOS Catalina using Patcher. Your instructions are very clear to follow, however I would like your help in finding out how to actually install into my Mac the bootable installer. In your video it showed that all the downloading into the USB installer was DONE and that was unfortunately as far as I got, because after my computer restarted I never actually got the UTILITY window like you did get win your video with a choice of menu to choose from. When my computer restarted it was just showing my normal window of High Sierra and that's when I just stopped to do anything else as I didn't know what else to do. Could you be be kind enough to share some more details as to how I may proceed with the already made USB bootable with macOS Catalina installed in it. LOL there are several things you should have said:
You have to boot the computer holding down the option key while having the USB stick plugged in
The USB stick must be at least 16GB
Need at least 4GB RAM for it to run correctly, and you better save your datas, open disk utility once you have booted to the USB drive and format the internal hard drive, installing onto a blank drive that isn't currently running an older system will result in better performance, this is called a clean install.

I’ve done by formatting the HD. Everything went well but when I wanted to migrate the data from the Time Machine by using the Migration Assistant, the computer says they are incompatible. Moreover, migration assistant got stuck and I had to force to quit it. I couldn’t migrate any data and had to go back to El Capitan. I’ve got a MacBook Pro mid 2009. Could you please advise?

Says The volume doesn't appear to contain a valid copy of macOS Catalina. Are you sure you want to apply patches to this volume ?
Then after clicking Yes and the reset it looks like it's rebooting only to take me back to the same menu. Going around in circles.
Any help appreciated!
