When Makeup Geek was closing down I placed all order, but after a few weeks I hadn’t received my package or a tracking number. I emailed in about it, and to my surprise Marlena herself responded. She apologized profusely, said she would ship it out asap, and even include extra product for me. I got the package shortly thereafter, sure enough with a couple extra goodies that I was so excited about. Marlena is the epitome of class act. She is a true hard working woman, not just someone who slaps her name on others hard work. She’s beyond generous, has a good heart, and truly makes the world a better place. 💛

I never got to order makeup geek :( I was so into makeup before 2016 when it for really big. I was doing dramatic drag like looks in 2013-2014 it was unusual and was called drag, even tho I was a girl. Idk why I just slacked on buying from the good ‘ small’ brands back then. Marlena's only mistake was being compassionate and kind. It's very hard to come out with the truth against all that narcissism because you have to choose between putting your energy into your brand or into fighting narcissistic abuse, there isn't energy for both. The more you try to reassure you are telling the truth the more you get twisted in public drama. People tend to believe the liars more, she was smart in staying quiet until more people discovered how fake these people were.

As someone who works in cosmetic formulation and manufacture. You have no idea how much the information Marlena shared with Jaclyn means in the industry. People literally pay thousands for reports that dont give 1% of the valuable information she was given by Marlena
And since Linda was tagging along it seems like corporate espionage to me. There was no reason for Linda to be at any meetings with vendors/labs if Jaclyn was supposedly starting her own brand. Why bring a future competitor along? Jaclyn can lie about it, but if Linda was at these meetings then it was never going to be Jaclyn’s brand. They used Marlena shamelessly to get insider info and knowledge.
@@iluvzurara2 yes. They own all of it, but Jaclyn has repeatedly said that it’s her brand. We didn’t know until the bankruptcy filing that it was actually owned by Morphe. I was just pointing out that Jaclyn shouldn’t have had any reason to bring Linda along to these meetings, and now we know (imo) why she was there.
@@iluvzurara2 Yes but that was only recently officially confirmed when Forma Brand (Morphe’s parent company) filed and completed bankruptcy proceedings and the public could actually see that her brand was never owned by her. Up until then a lot of people still believed that Jaclyn was the founder and CEO. Through this whole process she continued to say it was a small, family owned business that needed support knowing full well she was only being paid licensing for her name and likeness. Even with the the proof on the paper in a recent video she maintained that she started fro scratch and it’s her business when we know it factually is not.

Yes Marlena gave her the introduction to this specific manufacture but maybe Jaclyn just wanted a second opinion on everything from another successful woman in the industry who was also a friend. Like when you go to the doctor and after they give you a diagnosis you go to another doctor to get a second opinion.
I started in 2010, one of the first videos I ever saw was Marlena, I showed my parents and I was like ‘I’m gonna take a year off before college and do this…’ they supported me and then halfway through college I was struggle with being bullied, so I left and focused on RUclips full time, so thank you Marlena for being part of my journey, my makeup geeks products are some of my go-to’s, I just love her!! ❤️

I’m not big into the makeup community but know enough to know the name Jaclyn Hill. Why do people still do these collabs with her if they know this is how she is? I feel like I’ve heard more controversy about her collabs than I have just about her own line and her own line has had its issues. It definitely sucks for someone to be that crappy of a person. It sounds like she does more collabs than anyone. I could be wrong because I’m ignorant to makeup community. But does she do it to reduce costs for herself? I hope businesses just decide not to do business with her if this is how she does business.

I remember years ago a small RUclipsr from Australia had her house robbed. They stole her entire makeup collection. Marlena send her a ton of products for free to start her collection again. She seems like a very genuine person.
My favorite part is Marlena is still Marlena. Time and time again she is still knowledgeable, humble, sweet, just, a successful career women, motherly mentor to many, open, transparent, and fabulous. Since day one she has been this way and she still is. LOVE YOU MARLENA!!

She was the first one I watched too! Sitting her kitchen with the terrible lighting lol but she was genuine and I felt like she was a normal person like me. But it seemed like we were just watching a villain origin story because she does not seem to be the same person. It's devastating but karma is a wonderful thing.

Same. I even got her palettes for my nieces & literally bought so many things that she suggested in her Sephora haul videos. Sad part is that I’m a grown ass adult who earns good $$ but still managed to be carried away by her. I was so happy when I saw Marlena on the Netflix documentary talking about fake makeup products. I wasn't aware of her participation before. I was so happy for her.

My theory is that Linda promised Jaclyn her "own" brand if she worked exclusively with Morphe. Which is why we don't see any other real collabs after Becca except with Morphe and then after 2019 with Jaclyn Cosmetics (which is also a collab despite Jaclyn's name being on it). I think Jaclyn didn't want to have to explain to Marlena (or was forbidden from disclosing) the deal with Linda, and instead of being an adult and speaking with Marlena, Jaclyn tried to make it fade away. Probably to save herself from the backlash. Doesn't look as bad if it was just bad timing. That is why it didn't matter how much she was going to make with MakeupGeek, she was being promised something more from Morphe... her own brand without any of the real responsibilities or costs of it being her own. She could claim ownership and then just cash the checks.

Exactly! So, Marlena would start sending her colour stories, samples, potential materials, package design proposals, etc. Basically collecting the hard work of a woman (and her team), who did nothing but trust her and honoured their end of the deal.
I have heard about Jaclyn burning bridges and straight up stealing other people’s ideas, brands, etc. but it hits differently hearing Marlena’s firsthand account. I just want to give her a big hug. I am sure that it took a lot of strength and courage to come on The Sesh and share the truth about such a painful betrayal by someone that she thought was her friend.
Wow this whole podcast really showed the absolute contrast Marlena is to Jaclyn. I have always believed Linda got into Jaclyn’s head by saying drop MG, promote us, and we’ll pay you more. I’ve watched Jaclyn since she started and still remember the shift from MG to Morphe being the main star of the show in her videos. Morphe and Jaclyn used one another and it made them all a lot of money. Her using cheap labs make a lot of sense too considering how tied together her brand is with Morphe. Look at how many corners we’ve seen Morphe cut over the years. They taught her well.
I agree. I think its a little naive of Marlena to think that morphe wasn't paying Jaclyn more, or that there wasn't large financial incentives for Jaclyn to drop makeup geek for Morphe. Or course they paid Jaclyn more in some way. Why else would she support Morphe and their crap products, over Makeup Geek and their superior products?

The MUG palette was going to be almost double the price of the Morphe one, so I think Jaclyn knew it would make less money for her since it would be much less units sold. It's bad business for Marlena to order product without a signed contract, as Jaclyn 100% was going to prioritize collabs with contracts.

Jaclyn always has made me so mad. People have been left bankrupt and run off the scene for a lot less than some of the sh*t she pulled. I remember when Here for the Tea/Tea Spill went into all of this back around 2016 and Jaclyn's camp shut it down and they never made the next part in the expose series. I was shocked back then, but it hurts even more hearing it from Marlena and then what happened to her brand. Even after that she went on to release the vault and her hairy lipsticks and she is still sitting pretty in her mansion. Somehow I just saw this podcast! I wish I would have seen it a year ago when it came out! First of all, I’ve loved Marlena for such a long time. Makeup Geek was my FIRST high quality makeup I’ve ever purchased, and still to this day I refuse to throw away my shadows that are incredibly expired. 😂 they’re INCREDIBLE! Second, I can’t get over how professional, classy, and kind Marlena is. Through everything she has went through, she still didn’t sit here and badmouth Jaclyn. Lastly, Jaclyn does NOT deserve a platform. It’s so sad to see how she has sold out over these years. Love you Marlena!

I am happy that this video popped up on my feed. I have been following Marlena for many, many years, the little room beginnings. Bought a lot of her makeup and was sad when she closed her doors. I do NOT do TikTok, for personal reasons about my privacy, so RUclips is still my platform of choice. I was not aware of all the dramas, because I am too old to waste too much time on 'stuff' that does not involve my personal space. This interview was very well handled and did not come across as slamming someone. Thank you.

The "balls" in the JH lipsticks were beads of wax that were not melted or processed properly - so it wasn't high temperatures that caused the issue; it was temperatures that WEREN'T high enough.
It's been surreal and frightening to watch Jaclyn and her behaviour over the past years. She has been involved in so many scams and scandals, has been proven to blatantly lie over and over again, has taken no accountability for any of her actions and continues to manipulate and gaslight her way out of any situation. It's scary. Dealing with someone like this can be traumatizing. I am so sorry to hear how hurt and betrayed Marlena has been by her and I applaud her for her bravery to speak up. I hope she continues to heal and focus on her new plans.

i work in trademarking and not only is it expensive to get a trademark it also takes over a year to even get it registered IF it even gets approved so it’s much more complicated than just *getting* a trademark. it’s so wild that jaclyn is just blatantly talking about things she knows nothing about lol

I just don’t I understand why she didn’t take Jaclyn to small claims court and made Jaclyn pay her for those units. She even could of had Jaclyn pay for her attorney fees and especially after her Morphe launch Jaclyn could of afford it.

It’s not easy even for ppl who can afford it. It’s a lot of work even if you’re the client. Its a very intense and emotional process. And even if it wasn’t, Marlena would’ve absolutely looked like the bad guy doing this. It would not have socially turned out in her favor and cannot guarantee that legally it would’ve either. There was no contract. She had nothing to really fall back on.

Even with no contract there are multiple emails, jaclyn showed in her let’s talk video, that clearly states that they were in an agreement to collaborate on this product, that units have already been made, money has already been spent, and emails with Jaclyn backing out at the last minute. Now let me be clear. I am completely on Marlena’s side with this one. Jaclyn should have honored her commitment and it shouldn’t be at Marlena’s expense. However if it is costing, Marlena $1 million dollars than that is definitely something worth fighting for. I truly believe Marlena would have been completely supported by the social community if she had done this. Because that also means that this story would’ve came out while it was happening in real time. I genuinely believe everyone would’ve rallied behind Marlena in full support of Jaclyn paying her what she owed her.

Well to let you guys know , I worked at Revlon for several years and we always had to use latex gloves, finger cots , hair nets and face masks in all the areas. Along with lab coats.
I have always felt bad for the amount of hate Jaclyn has received over the years. I was always under the impression that the industry is just saturated with catty and jealous women that go after successful people like Jaclyn. But after listening to this, my feelings have completely shifted. Marlena, regardless of what happens to Jaclyn, you are the definition of class act and that good “karma” will come back on you. I'm 45 mins in and I am seething. I didn't know who Marlena was until you guys spoke about her on the podcast earlier this year. Seeing how absolutely sweet and caring she is and how she stuck her neck out there for a "friend" to only have been hurt and humiliated. That makes me so mad I could just cry for her. I am so glad she is so poised and level headed and went about it in a classy way. It really shows what a kindhearted and compassionate person she is. I'm working on a collaboration right now with my brand and because of Marlena's story, I did have my collaborator sign a contract before we went into production. Thank you for sharing your story and helping others. It's really hard when you are friends and you obviously want to trust your friends and contracts, money, etc. can be uncomfy with friends. But, it's still a convo that needs to happen to protect yourself. Not everyone has the same heart as you.
When Jaclyn’s jewelry first launched, I bought my husband a chain for our anniversary. She swore her jewelry was high quality and wouldn’t change colors, etc. It definitely turned his neck green and I was mad because I spent about $70 and that’s a lot for us but I literally only bought it bc he said he liked it and she swore it was good quality. I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt that she had learned but no. That was my final straw.
This is by far one of the best shows yall have done in my opinion. I absolutely LOVE Marlena's personality. I could tell just through the screen that she is a genuinely good hearted woman. I love and admire what she stands for. 💕 Oh and I've never supported Jaclyn. Not one penny of mine has went to her, maybe watched 2 or 3 videos of hers. She comes off very FAKE. Also, she is very much only for herself. She doesn't help with charities,etc. Marlena just cemented those thoughts of mine even more after watching this. Shame on Jaclyn. Terrible money hungry FAKE.
I think the first person to see who Jaclyn really was is Nicole Guerrero. They did a video together YEARS ago and had a fallen out. Neither of them have spoken about it and Nicole has stayed away from Jaclyn ever since. I’ve been watching Marlena since the very beginning and even attended one of her makeup seminars in L.A. She’s humble and one the sweetest person you’ll ever meet.

When Makeup Geek was closing down I placed all order, but after a few weeks I hadn’t received my package or a tracking number. I emailed in about it, and to my surprise Marlena herself responded. She apologized profusely, said she would ship it out asap, and even include extra product for me. I got the package shortly thereafter, sure enough with a couple extra goodies that I was so excited about. Marlena is the epitome of class act. She is a true hard working woman, not just someone who slaps her name on others hard work. She’s beyond generous, has a good heart, and truly makes the world a better place. 💛

It's very hard to come out with the truth against all that narcissism because you have to choose between putting your energy into your brand or into fighting narcissistic abuse, there isn't energy for both. The more you try to reassure you are telling the truth the more you get twisted in public drama. People tend to believe the liars more, she was smart in staying quiet until more people discovered how fake these people were.

As someone who works in cosmetic formulation and manufacture. You have no idea how much the information Marlena shared with Jaclyn means in the industry. People literally pay thousands for reports that dont give 1% of the valuable information she was given by Marlena
And since Linda was tagging along it seems like corporate espionage to me. There was no reason for Linda to be at any meetings with vendors/labs if Jaclyn was supposedly starting her own brand. Why bring a future competitor along? Jaclyn can lie about it, but if Linda was at these meetings then it was never going to be Jaclyn’s brand. They used Marlena shamelessly to get insider info and knowledge.

Up until then a lot of people still believed that Jaclyn was the founder and CEO. Through this whole process she continued to say it was a small, family owned business that needed support knowing full well she was only being paid licensing for her name and likeness. Even with the the proof on the paper in a recent video she maintained that she started fro scratch and it’s her business when we know it factually is not.

I started in 2010, one of the first videos I ever saw was Marlena, I showed my parents and I was like ‘I’m gonna take a year off before college and do this…’ they supported me and then halfway through college I was struggle with being bullied, so I left and focused on RUclips full time, so thank you Marlena for being part of my journey, my makeup geeks products are some of my go-to’s, I just love her!! ❤️

I’m not big into the makeup community but know enough to know the name Jaclyn Hill. Why do people still do these collabs with her if they know this is how she is? Marlena prefacing her complaints with “I don’t want to tear women down” is a nice sentiment, but we need to move away from this idea that women can’t criticize other women for bad behavior. A woman’s bad behavior isn’t suddenly less damaging because because she’s a woman, and Jaclyn Hill was the one who tried to come Marlena first. I don’t know Marlena that much, but I can tell she’s sacrificed so much financially, mentally, etc. and I can’t help but think the failed collaboration was a blessing in disguise! Jaclyn and the way she holds herself is NOT someone you’d want to be associated with whether in a business or personal relationship… Marlena is the epitome of grace, class, and success!

I was so happy when I saw Marlena on the Netflix documentary talking about fake makeup products. I wasn't aware of her participation before. I was so happy for her.
Morphe “Linda” was in her ear. Jaclyn is trash for doing this to a friend. And yet acts like she never does anything wrong when she has ripped off others!!! Never supporting her again. Thank you Marlena for speaking out.
My theory is that Linda promised Jaclyn her "own" brand if she worked exclusively with Morphe. Which is why we don't see any other real collabs after Becca except with Morphe and then after 2019 with Jaclyn Cosmetics (which is also a collab despite Jaclyn's name being on it).
I think Jaclyn didn't want to have to explain to Marlena (or was forbidden from disclosing) the deal with Linda, and instead of being an adult and speaking with Marlena, Jaclyn tried to make it fade away. Probably to save herself from the backlash. Doesn't look as bad if it was just bad timing. That is why it didn't matter how much she was going to make with MakeupGeek, she was being promised something more from Morphe... her own brand without any of the real responsibilities or costs of it being her own. She could claim ownership and then just cash the checks.

She used to talk about makeup geek eyeshadows constantly and then suddenly stopped when she started working with morphe...and morphe is crap. You could definitely tell she changed and became all about the money. I also remember her talking about this collab back in the day and then it never happening. So unfortunate she did that to a friend...

I have heard about Jaclyn burning bridges and straight up stealing other people’s ideas, brands, etc. but it hits differently hearing Marlena’s firsthand account. I just want to give her a big hug. I am sure that it took a lot of strength and courage to come on The Sesh and share the truth about such a painful betrayal by someone that she thought was her friend.
Wow this whole podcast really showed the absolute contrast Marlena is to Jaclyn. Jaclyn doesn’t care who she steps on along the way and gives this “nice girl” persona because she “employs” her family. And here Marlena is truly trying to do good in the world and rise other women up.

I have always believed Linda got into Jaclyn’s head by saying drop MG, promote us, and we’ll pay you more. I’ve watched Jaclyn since she started and still remember the shift from MG to Morphe being the main star of the show in her videos. Morphe and Jaclyn used one another and it made them all a lot of money. Her using cheap labs make a lot of sense too considering how tied together her brand is with Morphe. Look at how many corners we’ve seen Morphe cut over the years. They taught her well.
I agree. I think its a little naive of Marlena to think that morphe wasn't paying Jaclyn more, or that there wasn't large financial incentives for Jaclyn to drop makeup geek for Morphe. Or course they paid Jaclyn more in some way. Why else would she support Morphe and their crap products, over Makeup Geek and their superior products?

The MUG palette was going to be almost double the price of the Morphe one, so I think Jaclyn knew it would make less money for her since it would be much less units sold. It's bad business for Marlena to order product without a signed contract, as Jaclyn 100% was going to prioritize collabs with contracts.

Jaclyn always has made me so mad. People have been left bankrupt and run off the scene for a lot less than some of the sh*t she pulled. I remember when Here for the Tea/Tea Spill went into all of this back around 2016 and Jaclyn's camp shut it down and they never made the next part in the expose series. I was shocked back then, but it hurts even more hearing it from Marlena and then what happened to her brand. Even after that she went on to release the vault and her hairy lipsticks and she is still sitting pretty in her mansion. The fact she is still pulling these kinds of things now is just so upsetting and maddening. Thank you so much for letting Marlena come and talk with you guys, she's such a wonderful soul. First of all, I’ve loved Marlena for such a long time. Makeup Geek was my FIRST high quality makeup I’ve ever purchased, and still to this day I refuse to throw away my shadows that are incredibly expired. 😂 they’re INCREDIBLE!
Second, I can’t get over how professional, classy, and kind Marlena is. Through everything she has went through, she still didn’t sit here and badmouth Jaclyn.
Lastly, Jaclyn does NOT deserve a platform. It’s so sad to see how she has sold out over these years.

I am happy that this video popped up on my feed. I have been following Marlena for many, many years, the little room beginnings. Bought a lot of her makeup and was sad when she closed her doors. I do NOT do TikTok, for personal reasons about my privacy, so RUclips is still my platform of choice. I was not aware of all the dramas, because I am too old to waste too much time on 'stuff' that does not involve my personal space. This interview was very well handled and did not come across as slamming someone. Thank you.
Marlena seems so genuinely kind and humble. She genuinely seems like a person who will be in your corner. I will definitely support her makeup when it comes out.

The "balls" in the JH lipsticks were beads of wax that were not melted or processed properly - so it wasn't high temperatures that caused the issue; it was temperatures that WEREN'T high enough.
It's been surreal and frightening to watch Jaclyn and her behaviour over the past years. She has been involved in so many scams and scandals, has been proven to blatantly lie over and over again, has taken no accountability for any of her actions and continues to manipulate and gaslight her way out of any situation. It's scary. Dealing with someone like this can be traumatizing. I am so sorry to hear how hurt and betrayed Marlena has been by her and I applaud her for her bravery to speak up. I hope she continues to heal and focus on her new plans.
Marlena was the very first makeup channel i subscribed to on RUclips. She was the first, and in my opinion one of the most authentic, down to earth and kind people we ever had in the makeup community here.

i work in trademarking and not only is it expensive to get a trademark it also takes over a year to even get it registered IF it even gets approved so it’s much more complicated than just *getting* a trademark. it’s so wild that jaclyn is just blatantly talking about things she knows nothing about lol

Jaclyn KNEW that Marlena had 100k units that cost her 1 million to produce...and kept putting it off until the product was almost expired...and told her "nevermind it's not going to work"? Like why? What was the reason? They both would've made millions and Marlena lost her business because of it. Jaclyn is a snake. Like that's straight up evil to do that to someone, let alone a friend.
I just don’t I understand why she didn’t take Jaclyn to small claims court and made Jaclyn pay her for those units. She even could of had Jaclyn pay for her attorney fees and especially after her Morphe launch Jaclyn could of afford it.
Probably made an exclusivity contract with Morphe and didn't want to tell Marlena, so she just ghosted her. At least that's my theory.
@@smiller1263 you don’t “just” take someone to court. And this would not be small claims court either. We aren’t talking about $2000 here. A lawsuit is never “just” a lawsuit. It’s not easy even for ppl who can afford it. It’s a lot of work even if you’re the client. Its a very intense and emotional process. And even if it wasn’t, Marlena would’ve absolutely looked like the bad guy doing this. It would not have socially turned out in her favor and cannot guarantee that legally it would’ve either. There was no contract. She had nothing to really fall back on.

Even with no contract there are multiple emails, jaclyn showed in her let’s talk video, that clearly states that they were in an agreement to collaborate on this product, that units have already been made, money has already been spent, and emails with Jaclyn backing out at the last minute. Now let me be clear. I am completely on Marlena’s side with this one. Jaclyn should have honored her commitment and it shouldn’t be at Marlena’s expense. However if it is costing, Marlena $1 million dollars than that is definitely something worth fighting for. I truly believe Marlena would have been completely supported by the social community if she had done this. Because that also means that this story would’ve came out while it was happening in real time. I genuinely believe everyone would’ve rallied behind Marlena in full support of Jaclyn paying her what she owed her.

I was always under the impression that the industry is just saturated with catty and jealous women that go after successful people like Jaclyn. I'm 45 mins in and I am seething. I didn't know who Marlena was until you guys spoke about her on the podcast earlier this year. Seeing how absolutely sweet and caring she is and how she stuck her neck out there for a "friend" to only have been hurt and humiliated. That makes me so mad I could just cry for her. I am so glad she is so poised and level headed and went about it in a classy way. It really shows what a kindhearted and compassionate person she is. I'll say it, Jaclyn is an asshole in this weeks edition of "Am I the asshole?"
I'm working on a collaboration right now with my brand and because of Marlena's story, I did have my collaborator sign a contract before we went into production. Thank you for sharing your story and helping others. It's really hard when you are friends and you obviously want to trust your friends and contracts, money, etc. can be uncomfy with friends. But, it's still a convo that needs to happen to protect yourself. Not everyone has the same heart as you.

When Jaclyn’s jewelry first launched, I bought my husband a chain for our anniversary. She swore her jewelry was high quality and wouldn’t change colors, etc. It definitely turned his neck green and I was mad because I spent about $70 and that’s a lot for us but I literally only bought it bc he said he liked it and she swore it was good quality. I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt that she had learned but no. That was my final straw.

I think the first person to see who Jaclyn really was is Nicole Guerrero. They did a video together YEARS ago and had a fallen out. Neither of them have spoken about it and Nicole has stayed away from Jaclyn ever since.
I’ve been watching Marlena since the very beginning and even attended one of her makeup seminars in L.A. She’s humble and one the sweetest person you’ll ever meet.
