    there is a HUGE CLEAR line between making a discreet adult joke for the parents watching VS using children to act out explicit adult senecios under the guise of being ‘funny’. If we as a society can no longer tell the difference between what dan schnider has done vs. adult humor in micky mouse shows .. we are truly lost🫠

    • @mimicoolll0
      @mimicoolll0 3 месяца назад +43

      yeah and a lot of the time in kids shows “adult” humor is more like jokes that other generations can relate to and NOT inappropriate.
      for example, a joke that refers to an old movie a little kid wouldn’t have watched.

      There should be absolutely not explicit content in any show for kids full stop . No adult should be thinking of ways to slip in sexual jokes in a kid show no matter who might be watching . Idk about anyone else but if I came across a show that I heard a joke like that in a show meant fur my child I would be pissed .

      They say these jokes were for adults that watch.. but I've heard so many parents say "I don't want to watch that shit, it's stupid" if they were like my mom, they left the room cus she didn't want to watch it.
      They knew that, knew only kids were watching. They were definitely grooming us through TV. Because they brought sex up a lot, then I got curious like several other kids. Too early too, like when I was 5 I got curious. Children at that age shouldn't be

    The one thing that resonated with me the most is when one of the cast members said that he remembers Amanda would disappear for hours during their scheduled school breaks. I know Amanda has since tried to speak out, but we called her crazy.

      And Amanda was never crazy. She was reacting to very abusive impossible situations in very anticipatory and even expected ways. Just like Britney was never crazy either. Those child entertainers were surrounded by exploitative adults. Especially their parents. It makes me ill. X_X I won't even post pics of my nieces and nephews online (I don't have children of my own) without permission because I'm so actively protective of them. I can scarcely imagine why parents (like those of children who work for Nick and Disney) will use their children in such horrible ways.

      I mean, this isn’t a new phenomenon or undocumented thing. One of the first mainstream child entertainment stars - Shirley Temple. She was open about her AND her mom being exploited and abused by the executives, producers, writers, and such by the like… 50’s?
      We have to remember movies have been around for a hundred years now, and very early on did children get along. And as we all knows, the gears of society will grind down your innocence and gnaw at your core.
      Your parents wanted to spare you that. Throughout so much of celebrity history you see exploited children “going off the rails”, when they’re just reacting to trauma.

    Just because The Incredibles touched upon a darker subject such as suicide, doesn’t mean it should be deemed as inappropriate for kids to watch. Pixar films have always been made for families, something that everyone can enjoy. The Incredibles specifically was always one of Pixar’s more mature films. Kid’s content doesn’t need to be squeaky clean or dumbed down to be considered suitable for them. They’re smarter than that. It’s weird to compare it to Nick shows that were clearly sexually inappropriate.

      Disagree, but I will say that parents and caregivers have to pre screen all media they allow their kids to interact with... which seems to be very uncommon especially nowadays. Insane to me since most kids seem to have unlimited access to all kinds of media, including things that are beyond inappropriate. If media is actually directed at kid, many parents and caregivers would likely assume the content has been screened and deemed appropriate by those who air it. That is NOT the case. Even recently when I was babysitting, I had just arrived at the family's home and their 4-5 yr old son was already watching a animated show for VERY young kids. No big deal right? I was shocked to see him unsupervised watching this kids cartoon with actual bondage and kidnapping themes. I could not believe it, but at the same time, I know what the world is truly like so I very calmly turned the show off and suggested a different activity. Similarly I definitely would not want the idea of suicide introduced to a child through an animated film. Some of y'all are way too flippant and really need an education on how these kinds of things can negatively impact child development.

    • @matchamochi520
      @matchamochi520 3 месяца назад +37

      @@vcheekv bondage and kidnapping themes vs a superhero saving a man from jumping off a building is quite different, don’t you think? It’s not like The Incredibles was promoting or condoning suicide. It’s valid for parents to want to shield their kids from darker topics, but excessively sheltering them is damaging to them too. Critical thinking and media literacy is going to die with the way parents overly protect their kids from ANY sort of uncomfortable topics. Another example of a great piece of media is Avatar the Last Airbender, a cartoon which was made primarily for children. Yet it touched on topics such as oppression, genocide, war, etc in such a way that made it digestable for children and taught them so much about the world. And it was loved by both kids and adults. You’re gonna tell me that’s inappropriate for children too? Give me a break

    • @lindseyhendrix2405
      @lindseyhendrix2405 3 месяца назад +7

      Haven’t gotten to that part yet but I completely agree. The inclusion of the suicide attempt and the _countless_ lawsuits adds to the plot line of why Mr. Incredible kind of retired, or did less “saving,” and how the city became against super heroes in a way. If anything, it’s can be explained to kids as even if you help someone and it’s the right thing to do, they can turn around and be ugly to you but it doesn’t mean you should stop doing the right thing. Or in the most adult way of thinking it introduces the idea of civil liability and lawsuits. 😂

      feel like the pertinent point of that story was that the mother was clearly being groomed as well; so swept up in being involved in Hollywood, rubbing shoulders with all these industry people as she forced her failed childhood dream on her daughter. Made me so angry when she said she decided to just do nothing; if not for her daughter’s sake then at least to prevent future victims?

    Drake Bell has helped me so much with understanding my abuse. I know he's got some accusations against him; that's also helped me understand a lot of things. I've never felt comfortable talking about my abuse in therapy, but for my past 2 sessions I have. He's incredibly brave; when he stood pretty much alone and took down his abuser, and also coming out and telling his story.

    • @sngray11

      If you don’t feel comfortable enough with your therapist to talk about your abuse (aside from your past two sessions), perhaps consider switching therapists. It took me a while to find a therapist that I felt comfortable enough being completely vulnerable, open, and honest with. She also did EMDR sessions with me on my past trauma and abuse which helped a lot and I no longer get triggered into having full blown PTSD events. Also, I know it is pricey, but if you ever get the opportunity to take part in the Survivors Workshop at The Meadows (in Wickenburg, AZ), I highly recommend it. That week long workshop (focusing on your childhood) was more productive than years of therapy. I still would love to do the second one someday that focuses on adolescence and young adulthood. But regardless, I wish you all of the best on your healing journey and I am so proud of you for having the courage to finally talk about your abuse with your therapist! 🙌🏽 I know how much strength and courage that takes and I am so incredibly proud of you for taking that step. 💗

    Amanda and Drake's grooming shows a lot of similarities. These men basically tried to isolate these children from their family in order to have complete control over them. I think Amanda wanting the emancipation was probably led by Dan which is why he showed so much support when she petitioned. Similar to how Drake opted to live with his mom instead of his father. These men needed that separation to take complete control. I don't know Amanda's full story but I feel like there are a lot of parallels.
    When Drake says Brian did the worst things you could imagine to him, I don't doubt it. I screamed "no!" immediately when they said he had a picture of a clown and screamed when they Said he had letters from Gacy. That sick f*** probably tried to imitate him. I want everyone who wrote a character letter for him completely cancelled.
    I also wish they would delete all of these videos of Ariana. I feel like they're so inappropriate and shouldn't even be legal.

    Also, someone said a lot of these child stars were “mature for their age” but what if that just means they’ve been traumatized and had to grow up to survive?

    Me and my mom have been discussing this since it aired. She grew up watching All That and The Amanda show meanwhile I grew up watching Victorious and icarly, honestly I remember the amount of feet “jokes” plastered all over those shows obviously I was a kid so I didn’t really bat an eye but never found them funny just remember being super uncomfortable anytime they did show feet. Nowadays I can’t stand feet or even looking at my own feet let alone others without getting weirded out and watching everything unfold I think I know why now. Also looking back at the old Nickelodeon logo that used to be shaped as a foot.. very eerie

Kendall was right to be disgusted by that. It's why I said you wouldn't believe the shit some parents will not report or ignore in order to protect their reputation. I remember the day the executives from Disney TV came to LOOK AT the children in Disney Theatrical. Eldest told me afterwards that these men were NOT LIKE the showrunners on Broadway, they were creepy. She was 10! She made some fantastic money, had a blast in NYC for 2 years, did other TV and voice-overs while working, then decided she wanted birthday parties with school friends and sleepovers and we said NO PROBLEM, and she stopped auditioning and is a certified BSN/RN Level 3 in grad school!! Showing how much you all care about what these kids went through is so appreciated. As a childcare provider who has often felt alone in trying to protect kids and advocate for their care, it really means a lot. Child stars and beyond, children can rarely advocate for themselves and they are the most vulnerable of our society. Everyone needs to be more aware and prepared to stick up for kids who have no one willing to care or help in their immediate lives.

    2:16:46 Kendall is TOTALLY right about how there NEEDS to be some third party person who is strictly there to look out for the welfare and safety of children on set. Someone the kids could go to and feel safe to talk about anything that could be bothering them. I work at a Chipotle, and there is an anonymous corporate run hotline you can call if any issues arise that you don't feel comfortable talking to your manager about, and it will be investigated and addressed through Corporate HR while keeping your identity protected. Definitely not the same as a kid working on a film set, but it's the MINIMUM precaution a business can take to protect their workers.

    The fact that he made me laugh alongside Josh and made me love the show so much and now I know he was going thru hell and growing up in front of our eyes in the middle of turmoil. So heart breaking. His escape was what made us laugh and enjoy childhood . How fucked is that

      I VIVIDLY remember being a 3rd grader in 2007, sitting in my grandparents' basement watching the iCarly pilot premier. I was thinking these preteen girls and their little self-made internet show was sooo quirky and entertaining and all of a sudden, they made a joke about their teacher's boobs that totally caught me off guard. I had to double check that I was watching Nickelodeon, and not some inappropriate adult channel. Even though I was sitting and watching alone, the strict and conservative ways I was raised made me think I was somehow going to get in trouble for watching a kid's show where boobs were mentioned.

    The Ned Declassified and all of those other weird early 2000's TV show podcasts are run by former Disney star Christy Carlson Ramona (Even Stevens, Cadette Kelly, Kim Possible) and her husband's podcast network (?), called PodCo. She's been accused of some pretty slimy and exploitative things lately... Alexa Nikolas and the girls from Do We Know Them? have called her out on her BS a multitude of times. CCR even DELETED Alexa's episode on her own pod, Vulnerable, because Alexa privately tried to inform her that one of her other guests, Corey Feldman, was a predator. CCR left her on read and then blocked her.
    EDIT: Well, I guess y'all already knew this lmao!

    Some solution: networks, or any media, should be required to have mandated reporters around or at least have 1on1s with the kids. Im a social worker who works with children and we are mandated BY LAW to report any abuse or neglect. I know these creeps will keep creepin but at least this would be another resource for kids and families working/involved in any type of media

    also , psychologically, denial is a very real thing. your brain can protect you from trauma by blocking memories. in addition to the fact that someone may not be ready to come forward or want to come forward publically, they may actually not remember.

    Did anyone else catch how in Drake's ex-gf's TikTok she used the same verbage he did in the doc to describe the abuse? "Imagine the worse form of ______ abuse you can do and that was what it was". That kind of red flags for me.....

      I noticed this as well! I thought it was very strange.. you can tell she watched the doc and felt it was the right time to say her piece.. no disrespect to her and if that really did happen- props to her for coming forward!🎉 But why does she wait til NOW to finally speak on the abuse.. as Drake is getting so much sympathy for the abuse he has endured as a a child! It’s almost like she’s trying to take the light away from him and be like “ but wait look at what happened to me!! “
