Thx a lot for this guide, especially for dissembling. I got this keyboard since 2010 and today after 12 years I did proper first deep cleaning. I got my keyboard again like fresh new and shiny! Thank you!
You're like the best guy to go to for tutorials. I loved all the tutorials I saw from you. You explain things very well, you use great camera angles to record and you actually KNOW how to do the things you're making the tutorial for!
Thank you man!! Youre the cause that i have clean and fixed my keyboard. One key today began failing. My G15 already has 5-6 years and i never cleaned it. I several times have spilled coca cola, yerba (a Paraguayan tea), juice, etc on my keyboard. And it is working 100% again. And thanks for the detailed work and instruction. Greetings from Paraguay.
I've got an older version of the G15 with an adjustable LCD section and cleaned it this afternoon. It's a little bit different in that after removing the bottom screws you can flip it and remove the top black outer section (do it with the LCD fully extended as the flat cable is the longest). Then you could unscrew the top section and clean the keys. Or you can just leave it assembled and just clean it with a vacuum cleaner and a mildly wet tooth brush cleaning it with the keys down so all the crap falls out the right way. It will save you a lot of time this way.
Cleaned and ready for another 16 years of use. I was stunned by the improvement, I assumed most of my grime/stiff buttons were permanent by now - but a soak in some soapy water and a shower and it feels like a new keyboard all around. Also had problems with the clips around the FN buttons (9:35), for me they simply refused to come loose. The back of the clip is kind of [ shaped, and I cut down the protrusions of the ones that were stuck with a knife and could finally get them loose. The holes are simply too small for the clips to get through. Thanks for a good guide!
Glad this old, overly complicated, and music cringy tutorial is still helping someone lol. If I had this keyboard still, id remake this tutorials :P Anyway, thanks for the kind words.
Nice to see people doing great work on this G15 ! I saw some other videos where guys just pop out keys from the front side of the keyboard with a flat-head screwdriver... It's cool you're showing the clean way to do it ! Thanks !
I also have a G15, so this tutorial helped me a great deal. I originally planned on just popping the keys off but after seeing this I decided to just take it all apart and clean it. Liked and subscribed to help you out, since you helped me out!
Orvis hello my friend i have a problem with my g15 logitech =/ suddenly my key "f4" is like having issues.. how can i explain .. if browsing some info in google.. if press "CONTROL CTRL" my windows get close.. or even if i press ALT my keyboard close all the window .. is like "f4" key is corrupted :( i've tried to connect this g15 in others pc and the problem persist.... is there a way to reset the G15? srry for my english im from venezuela... ..
I do not know for sure, but all keyboards even ones with LED are usually designed the same. I would recommend looking up a tutorial on that keyboard is one is available, if not follow mine, but take the information with a grain of salt as it will not be 100% the same
Thanks for showing on how to open it, was kinda worried about the LCD display. You can pop the keys even without opening this keyboard though. I just pop them out with a flathead.
Nice video, just cleaned my g15 v2 after watching it, never cleaned it since I brought it about 5 years ago. What a mess inside, not to mention I have a budgie that loves to stand on the keyboard a lot so you can imagine what was in there lol. Did have to pull it apart again after testing as I'd forgotten to make sure the metal bar on the larger keys were positioned under the plastic tabs but I'll remember that one for next time.
Thanks a lot, very good and useful video. Just couldn't watch it for the whole length and skipped here and there, way too long maybe, but extremely useful and well explained.
thanks for the input. yes I figured it was long that's why I added the "skip" annotations. anyway. thanks for letting me know how to make my video better. if you enjoyed it, try looking at some of my other computer 101 video's. Also do not forget to subscribe :)
seems more like water damage to circuitry or the individual keys conductivity pads. it MAY (no grantee) help if the keyboard is cleaned. Worth a shot if you want to keep it.
If you spilled water, soda or anything over your keyboard try this (IT WORKED TO ME): disassemble your keyboard, find the keyboard membrane (three foil of papers), clean it using antibacterial wipe or spry thoroughly, wait till its dry, clean the connections with the antibacterial product, wait till its dry, assemble your keyboard and WOALA!! it works!. Hope it helps!
I found your tutorial cleaning vid very helpful, as I just cleaned my G15 Keyboard.. but now I have a blank LCD display and the orange lights flicker ever since I put it back together?
Well I followed this video and thank you a ton, works now like new. The only complaint I have is the music was annoying nut thats just me. I rather watch an instructional video with no music. And I ended up putting to much pressure on the lcd screen and broke it. Wee,, so anyways Overall great video.
I understand but most people do not show EVERYTHING and i find that annoying in instructional video's. That is why in the annotations i put "skip" buttons to skip over the FF sections that show me putting / cleaning / reassembling the keyboard so that if anyone wanted to not see 100% of the work required, they can. Plus everyone has their own music tastes. So no offense taken. I appreciate the constructive criticism. ps: yes those LCD's are fragile, why i never really mess with it.
hey.. i have the same keyboard but it has some issues. the s n m and spacebar keys remain pressed like ssssssssssssssssnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm you get it.. hpw do i fix that? will cleaning do? its out of warranty and the company doesn't take out of warranty stuff for repair. and the keyboard is not available now. please help. thanks
Why didn't you show the removal of the LCD panel? :-( That was the only part that I needed to see because my media buttons are totally fucked up (hardware failure I guess) and are very difficult to press... I guess I will have to figure it out on my own ;)
Yes, I noticed it. I was kind of afraid to clean that aswell since it was already malfunctioning and wouldn't want to destroy it any further. Turns out, after cleaning, it even works 100 times better and the buttons are no longer malfunctioning! :D
@@Orvis25 I got the LCD cover off, exposed the PCB and buttons. Do not see 2 screws, nothing is popping out, not so simple for me. Really wish you had shown either the removal or installation of the LCD assembly. Otherwise, great video. Oh, except the music that was as annoying as Yoko Ono.
I put my keys into the washing machine in a net, on low temperature and a gentle program. worked really well, is way quicker, less work and more thorough

try taking some 91% alcohol and rubbing down on the metal pad that the rubber button hits to wipe away corrosion.
Once everything electronic is out you can put in the dishwasher :p
Or soak it is some water with a bit of dishsoap, and just scrub it like a plate.
