  • I find this entire situation troubling and fascinating at the same time. Troubling, since I believe this is a true erasure of people's creative voice in an era where a multiplicity of voices are supposed to be accepted. Fascinating, because this whole situation shows how easily pride and some sort of moral superiority leads to (and attempts to justify) said erasure. I look at this from the standpoint of a ghostwriter, another kind of creative that is hired to recreate or bring to life the client's "voice", regardless of our personal feelings on the matter. Let's dive into it.

    So in short: having a political opinion is fine, but using someone else's work to sneak in propaganda is wrong.

      Indeed. In fact, I think it's very possible that creatives will never be able to (or should be able to) fully separate themselves from their work. However, when a creative is hired to bring someone else's vision to life, they need to keep things as objective as they can.

      @@silverhawkscape2677 Indeed. Unfortunately, some of them can't (or they can't make it financially viable). You get these kinds of situations as a result. I've worked with editors who inserted themselves into my writing project for a client because they wanted to write themselves but couldn't pass the writing test. :) It's a sad fact many people do this because they won't be heard otherwise.

    I find that a lot of the time putting forth one's own way of living life in their work isn't necessarily bad as long as it's not a currently devisive topic with regards that a large amount of the consumers won't feel like they are being attacked for their beliefs or feel like it's a current modern day political talking point being shoved into their face.
    Keep up the good work btw. Great video.

    • @TheSadLittlePanda
      @TheSadLittlePanda 6 месяцев назад +1

      For me, the issue is not divisive topics, but really the "shoved into their face" part. I have no issue engaging with people who's opinions bother me, trying to understand people can only broaden your perspective.
      For me personally, entertainment is a form of escapism, so I take issue when political statements are just forcefully inserted without doing any work to earn it. It completely breaks my immersion and my enjoyment of the show/book/movie/etc.
      Write interesting characters/settings/events that challenge those ideas, don't just slap it on and call it a day, because you think the political message is more important than the art, that is called propaganda. This of course is even worse when you do it on someone else's work.
      That's the exact reason why I agree with probably 80-90% of progressive ideas, but still dislike woke people. I think they have good intentions (of course there are bad apples in every group), but act on it in some of the worse ways possible, even managing to alienate people who share their ideals.

    • @chiekokurokumo
      @chiekokurokumo  6 месяцев назад

      Indeed yes. For certain genres, it's a good idea to not just blatantly spew out opinions on hot button topics. Nobody wants to be scolded when they're relaxing at night and want some entertainment.

      @@TheSadLittlePanda 110% agree. There are tons of stuff I've read or watched that I didn't entirely agree with on a thematic or ideological level, but since it was well-written and produced, I could ignore certain things and just go along for the ride. The more poorly done something is, the more obvious the messaging, and the more irritating it gets. Especially when the writing is hamfisted. I also consider myself to be fairly moderate, but when the writing is crappy, I just feel the cringe.

    15:50 this is interesting, could it be that many people who studied fields close related to social studies have this view on culture and society because they have a half developed view? Example of this is the amount of people screaming at cultural appropriation, but anyone who has studied sociology or anthropology more extensively, know its a very narrow sighted view and we actually talk more about cultural exchange or trade.

    • @stevestrangelove4970
      @stevestrangelove4970 6 месяцев назад +1

      Also the Frankfurt school is also a case of narrow sighted academics, which is common on art academics that dont produce art.

    • @chiekokurokumo
      @chiekokurokumo  6 месяцев назад

      Don't even get me started on the "Culture Studies" ilk. Lord in heaven. So, for background, I nearly went into archaeology instead of English. Had a scholarship offered and everything. Went the English route (larger amount of money offered). Nevertheless, I've always been interested in archaeology and anthropology as an amateur. When I had to take Culture Studies 101 a few years back (as mentioned in my video), I was annoyed. #1 - I want to study English literature, not culture. #2 - This was Anthropology Lite. Anthropology for lazy people. I got rather annoyed because it was like they didn't want to do the footwork required in those other studies and were just sitting around with conjectures that anthropologists have been tackling for some time.
      So, not only did these students not really comprehend what Postmodern Critical Theory was about, but they also didn't understand what they were engaging with in school. They just parroted what the profs were saying. A complete and utter trashfire, IMO.
      Personally, I don't mind some of the things that Frankfurt school were noting. Other French academics, like Derrida and Fouceault, were making some interesting observations that are worth studying, but to just inject these ideas into courses that clueless students don't know how to handle resulted in a lot of misunderstanding, such as the conflation of art and entertainment and the very intention and poorly implemented encouragement of activism in daily life and art.

      @@chiekokurokumo i studied archeology, and similar with american archeology it was part of the anthropology wing.
      So when i see these people push on some theories as fact i cringe, because these topics are still contested and social sciences can hardly make world wide theories.
      An example is feminist theory, most writers are stuck on the opression dynamics but in social sciences we are discussing about gender trades and social power of genders, like how womens in a group have duties men dont but also have access to resources men dont (and how you prove this with pnly material left in an archeological site). The academic theory is incredible different to the thumbler level understanding on these other fields.

    Honestly, just do the damn translation as it is. Don't put anything extra in it. This isn't rocket science and definitely doesn't need a damn two- hour video discussing it. It's good those idiots got fired. If you don't do the job you're getting paid to do...,??????? why would they keep paying you? Y'all definitely need to start doing some hard labor or something to get your heads straight.

    • @chiekokurokumo

      We shouldn't have to do 2 hour explanations but when people ask, "How did we get here?", it's a question that needs answering so we don't make the mistake of repeating history. The answer is never simple either. If you want to be informed, feel free to listen to the entire thing. Otherwise, click out and embrace the bliss that is ignorance.
      For the record, however, not everyone in the academic or entertainment world floated in with silver spoons in their mouth. My personal history has helped me keep my head straight--but it wasn't just working at a meat packaging plant or cleaning mansions for rich people that kept me from going the woke route. I owe a lot of my perspective to my hard-working dad and my homeschooling mom. Solid community, caring family, and a certain set of values are also key to avoiding the nonsense.
