This is part 2 of where I audit the city of Ashtabula by doing a street audit where a guy, possibly mentally unstable, threatens me and another store owner defends me. Look forward to that!

All Americans should respect each others constitutional rights and hold government servants accountable at all times.
My goal is to educate everyone I come in contact with on our constitutional rights, starting with our 1st amendment in a peaceful way.
I am not seeking any reactions and simply want to exercise my rights as a normal citizen would, with a camera to document my experience.
Not everyone has to understand the need to film in public or agree with me, but this is one impactful way that will help to trigger conversations beyond what we can witness in these videos.
Below are some of the topics I want others to learn or fully understand.
#1 - ALL AMERICANS are the free press and we can film/record whatever we see.
#2 - ALL AMERICANS have the same rights and the government must be held accountable when violating rights.
#3 - ALL AMERICANS are subject to the laws only. No policy, executive order or feelings can deny our rights.
#4 - ALL AMERICANS no longer have privacy in public. Cameras are everywhere and we cannot expect others to go out of their way to make privacy for us when in public.
#5 - ALL AMERICANS have a right to be secure in their papers/identity from the government. We do not have to hand over ID without suspicion of a crime.
#6 - ALL AMERICANS can record government servants in the course of their duties. For the entirety of the business hours if we want.
#7 - ALL AMERICANS have access to public information and should regularly request that information from their local/state/federal governments to keep them transparent.
#8 - ALL AMERICANS have a right to film and exist in public without getting assaulted, harassed or intimidated. Regardless of how they look.

NOTE: I am not advocating for call flooding, or any form of disruption to governmental services.
People should address their grievances, or make compliments, to let Our government know how they are performing.
That is the only way action will be taken for any change.

I live in ashtabula. Not from here. However, unfortunately addicts are everywhere. And you happened to meet one of the biggest. You handled it well. Welcome.
First mistake is you talked to that guy...and then you talked to him way to long...Pepper spray is your friend

Ashtabula has been plagued with drug addicts for years. Its a shame no one puts forth a bigger effort to revitalize that area. The only threat to that guys parents is himself. He definitely gave off freeloading drug addict vibes. I pray for his parents. It cant be easy dealing with that frame of mind on a daily basis.

This was to prove a point. No matter how nice an auditor is, it doesn’t matter. Moving forward I’ll be telling people to mind their own business.

Ashtabula army and navy store used to be my favorite spot. Just tell people you are playing Pokémon or something. I play in that big park, the harbor and by the hospital. Never been approached.

I'm 55 and can clearly recall when downtown was a classy and beautiful place. High end shops, men in suits and women in dresses with their well behaved children. Now it's such a huge disappointment. Run down and filled with drugs, drug addicts, homeless and prostitutes

I worked at that KeyBank. Ashtabula downtown and the surrounding area are sad. It was such a vibrant town at one time 😢

The unfortunate part is you kept talking to that crazy guy. He sits there all day, every day. Sometimes you do have to walk away. All those buildings you did point out, those owners have worked really hard to improve, and survive in a “low income area” as you put it. You missed the best businesses, buildings, owners and store fronts on the other side of the street as well. Maybe come back and keep recording and avoid that guy. We do have a lot of homeless and crazies because they decided to put signature health right down at the end of strip. The city definitely ignores these buildings and streets, lights. The owners have had to fight for things to get accomplished on Main Ave. It’s been sad to see our Main Street turn into such disrepair.

It's insane, when I was a kid there was hardly a homeless presence here. Now it's rampant and homeless are literally everywhere. But main Ave. Is definitely a hotspot for them, and the mentally unstable..
These are the type of people that are Trump supporters. This is why he chooses these areas to campaign.

It makes me sad to see what was allowed to happen to Ashtabula. I spent a lot of time there in my youth. I drove Rt 20 through it a few years ago and it reminded me of a bombed out war zone. 😢

Why don’t you go back and film some of the “not so fine areas” of Warren? A city with its own problems, crime and corruption!
I'll be doing another walk through other parts of town when I do a recap of the court, but for now I'm branching into other towns. Each weekend I try to get out and plenty of places to cover. I'm still fighting with the court to even get them to return my calls.
Ive had some interesting interactions with city employees amd recording in Warren. Haha. Hope to see you around
