    • @13gan
      @13gan Год назад +135

      @@ulvjenta88 "Based on true story" usually mean that certain events are true but the story surrounding it are fictionalised. Its like a movie about WW2 where the love story and drama about the character are fiction but the battles are based on actual historical battles, like the movie Pearl Harbour and Titanic.
      Then you have "inspired by true events" where everything in the movie can be fictional, just that certain aspect of it may have been "inspired" from certain events. Example is a fantasy movie but the conflict and political drama are inspired by world history, like Game of Throne being inspired by England's War of the Roses.

    Crazy thing is this is actually loosely based on a true story about the first restaurant but granted it was actually started in Paris, Italy. The story being told is obviously fictional, names have been changed, and they moved the setting of the restaurant from Paris to the countryside likely because its a more beautiful setting for the happy ending they went with.
    Overall its a great movie I think especially since they abandoned the cliche revenge story for a more positive ending.

    Anyone got suggestions on more movie/film or series on food, cooking, culinary?
    This are among the films I came across before:
    Chef, The Last Recipe, Haute Cuisine, A Hundred Foot Journey, Burnt, Babette's Feast, Le Grand Chef 1 & 2. I like these the most till now. So much depth and details on the cooking, food itself and character development.
    and a few Chinese's' like the Cook Up Storm, Kung Fu Chef, Final Recipe, etc... They were fine but more towards fantasy rather than grounded and realistic enough to grasp me in. Entertaining but forgettable.
    I also like series that showcase food like Let's Eat, Miss Culinary from Thailand. These are relatable to me as I ate those food my whole life. Yes, I'm aware of Japanese series like Bottakuri, Hot & Spicy, The Road to Red Restaurants etc but they are too trivial and I can't binge them for a long time.
    Any more that I missed???

      @yecly Год назад +8

      @@esyphillis101 Thank you for the kind suggestion. I rather watch films and series rather than cartoons.
      I watch animes from time to time but my genre for an anime is more towards isekai and adventure rather than culinary type like the Shokugeki No Souma or Yakitake Japan or Toriko (for God sake!). These are within the fantasy category like I've mentioned aboved.
      For the visual culinary experience, I like it to be realistic, relatable and grounded. I like the realism of a professional setting or luscious relatable cooking and dining experience.
      A rat cartoon that cook is not that palatable for me. Just not my cup of tea. But you do you. You can explore the animes that I've mentioned. I've finished all of them. Quite entertaining. At least more than Ratatouille, imo.

There is a standard that must be met at all times. It is rewarding work, seeing people smile and have a fantastic time and just being human but everything that goes into preparing that meal is a lot of work. Learn the flavors, what the different components of a meal taste like, the smells, the visuals, it is a lot. Prepare yourself for that and put your mind to it and you can do it.

      It's kinda funny how activities associated with women were often seen indecent in a professional setting; cooking is one example, you could count music and writing too if you were to stretch a bit. In most cases there is indeed a lot of irony in women traditionally not being allowed to be chefs. Now that being said, it seems like this was more specific to positions that came with title, like a chef for aristocrat; I do believe many commoner women cooked with their family or husband if they owned taverns or inns or bakeries etc.

      MY DEAR FRIEND, Jacob seemed to be around 65 years old. Those barrels are about 100 to 200 litres in volume. That Means each barrel with only plain water will weigh about 100 to 200 kg. If an object of that much mass hit an old mans skull, he will be dead in few seconds.

      Those barrels weigh 100+ pounds EMPTY, it was probably stocked, if it was full of liquid wine, the total weight of the barrel+liquid would be 500LB minimum, all on top of the chest of an old man.

      There is that those barrels most likely weighed alot more than you think, but also when we think of how healthy an strong people are it is based on how we are now adays. In the past you might be pretty strong an healthy in your middle years, but your early an elder years could be quite weak an frail. Mostly it is from the fact that you only had your own ability to provide for yourself/family, or your family to aid you, as back then there was no social welfare system to aid you., An so many times the elderly were in quite bad health, and so pretty simple things could lead to death, hell things we think of as pretty minor now back than were potentially deadly in those ages.
