    Love your museum photos. So interesting about practicing street photography in museums. I've always loved museum spaces and how they compliment or contrast with the exhibits they contain. Much of my museum photography has been trying to capture the space, the volume, the architectural details, the mundane operational features, and especially, the feeling of place. Emphasis on "trying to."
    Thanks for another great video.

    My D-Lux 8 arrives this afternoon. It will be my back-up/B role to my Q2M and when I go to informal family events and to carry with me on my morning exercise walks. The size and utility of of this little jewel of a camera cannot be under estimated. I use profiles on my Q2M and knowing that the D-Lux 8 has them also adds to its capabilities. Love the Leica menu system is consistent across the new Leicas. Just like picking up an old friend. The Air and Space museum at Dulles is a must see - everything from the Space Shuttle Discovery to a SR-71 to the Enola Gay. You never get to see everything.

    Darn you Leigh! I thought I was over wanting one. But seeing your enthusiasm and results here have made me think about this again. I had rented one a bit ago and really enjoyed using it. Even with not knowing all the details you showed here. It was fun and I got some good results. So, seriously, thank you. - tim

      Ha! I can sympathize. When I get a call from Leica about a new camera, I say the same thing... Darn it Leica - stop introducing cameras I want! Since I received the D-Lux 8, it is the camera I use the most. :)

    Another great video, Leigh! As usual, really enjoy your videos, clear and helpful presentation. Got my D-Lux 8 a few weeks ago and really like it and now feel much clearer about some of the settings. Do you still have a CL? if so, would be great to see a comparison video.....still have mine and love it.....

    Thanks Leigh, I've just got my D-Lux 8 and you've made sense of the customisable buttons and how to adjust and save profiles. I too love taking 'street' photos inside museums with the dynamic interplay of people and objects - this camera seems ideal for that purpose.
    On a technical note, I'm still not sure where all the data for each individual photo is kept. I have them in the camera (card), the Leica FOTOS gallery (?), on Lightroom (ADOBE cloud) and in my iPhone camera roll (iCloud) - or how to trim the 'data-fat' without loosing photos. And I'll be interested in finding out if geotagging with the phone app and camera has a significant impact on battery life (both phone and camera). Early days, eh.

    Interesting to use these user profiles.I'm using my D-Lux 8 as an always with me camera. the function button are for the white balance (which might be changed), the style (color NAT or BW-HC) and the third one is for ISO. But ... Very often I'm using BW-HC and the only thing I might change is the EDV-correction ... So, I haven't found the best property for each of the function buttons, yet ... Maybe I will never find them. Because, if I know how the camera behaves, that's what I can work with. (I'm from Germany, so probably my English isn't that good ... Hopefyll you got, what I wanted to say)

    Hi Leigh. Thanks for the setup tips! I was able to finally get my hands on a D-Lux 8 from the Leica San Francisco store and took delivery this past week. My intent is to use it as a small carry around when I don't have a need or desire to lug around one of my Nikon Z bodies and lens. Question, do you have a need, or desire, to ever use any filter(s) on this camera? I'm thinking I would be using a Clear Protective filter, or possibly a Polarizing filter. I would like to get the Automatic Lens Cap like you have, but I have been reading that other owners have not been able to purchase any brand of 43mm filters that fit (clearance issues) when using the cap? I do see there is an aftermarket clone of the cap for under $20 that does allow filters to work, but to me it's a bit chunky and I don't like the look of it on the camera. Thoughts, experiences? Thanks. Bob

    • @cameraz99
      @cameraz99 3 месяца назад

      Instead of a little box, like most major mirrorless cameras use, it puts a crosshair over an eye. This is older technology, but it works.

    Loved your video. I have a D-Lux 8, maintain notes on Google Docs, and I just recorded your settings there. I have a question. The manual says, “Three memory slots are provided to store custom settings, plus the factory setting, which is always available and cannot be modified (Default Profile).” I don't understand this because I can select the Default Profile, make changes, e.g., Film Style, switch to a different profile (with a different Film Style), then switch back to the Default Profile, and the Film Style is as I set it. It clearly can be modified. Please make sense of this for me.

    The spec sheet on DPReview says the D-Lux 8 has digital zoom between 4.3-6.2. Can you confirm that? All I read and see is that it only comes with optical zoom. If so, how do you digitally zoom with the 8?

    Thanks for the video. Has anyone found a way to quickly re-center the focal point? On my XT-3 a quick double click/press on the control stick automatically re-centers it. I found this to be very useful.

    Hey Leigh: Ist time viewer & commenter. I went to Hog heaven when I came across your channel. Iam an old school photographer. I had Film Nikon, Canon, Hasselblads. My father told me son. The lens comes first then everything comes 2nd in a camera. He said there is something special about a German made lens - I agree. In your humble opinion do you think there is an overall quality difference between Leica & Zeis to Canon & Nikon as far as picture quality & sharpness. Thanks.

    • @LeighAndRaymond
      @LeighAndRaymond  2 месяца назад

      I’m so glad you’re here! In the film days, your father was absolutely right! In the days of digital, the body plays a larger role, but the lens is arguably still the most important. Looking at modern lenses for mirrorless bodies, they are all so good. Of course each have unique characteristics and benefits/drawbacks, but even kit lenses these days are amazing in terms of image quality!

    Hello, I'm a little horrified. Isn't it possible to add my name in the camera setting so that it appears on all photos in the Exif data? A feature that I have used at Canon for 20 years. I'm at a loss right now.
