A Eurogame is a type of board game that emphasizes strategy, limited luck, and player interaction without direct conflict. These games often focus on resource management, economic themes, and building systems, with the goal of maximizing points rather than eliminating opponents.
My top 10 euros have remained steady for years. 10. Orleans 09. Tiletum 08. Tapestry 07. Castles of Burgundy 06. Concordia 05. Gaia Project 04. Great Western Trail: Argentina 03. Everdell Complete Edition 02. A Feast for Odin 01. Brass: Birmingham
Next 10: 20. Keyflower 19. Amerigo (Feld) 18. Bruges (with Cities in the Zwin) 17. Expeditions (with Gears of Corruption) 16. Apiary 15. Tzolkin: the Mayan Calendar 14. Teotihuacan: City of Gods 13. Lost Ruins of Arnak 12. Clans of Caledonia 11. Caverna: the Cave Farmers (with Forgotten Folks)
Next 10: 30. Ark Nova (I am terrible at this game - played it about 15x never won, worst score is minus 54 somehow) 29. Underwater Cities 28. The Oracle of Delphi 27. Stone Age 26. Maracaibo 25. Beyond the Sun 24. Merlin (Feld) 23. Terraforming Mars (with drafting) 22. Puerto Rico 21. Barrage
Underwater Cities (another suchy), Darwin's Journey (chef's kiss), and BLACK ANGEL! Euro just means work to me - the game isn't going to give you anything easily. Efficiency of turns are usually how you win. Themes are mostly decoration.
It felt like you guys were sometimes being a little too critical of what classifies as a 'euro' game. Just because a game has dice, doesn't mean anything. Just because a game has a ton of cards, doesn't mean anything. In my opinion, any game that has an emphasis on strategic play with input randomness, if any, would solidly qualify as a euro.
I need to get that one back out! In fact, I’d like to revisit all of the older Feld games. It has been years. We recently got Trajan back out and really enjoyed it.
I guess for me, a Euro game = difficult. I've tried several Euros on BGA, and even with the automation, I couldn't figure them out. I'm currently in an async game of Orleans and I gave up on cracking that many turns back. I just click whatever will let me end my turn so the game will keep moving for the other players, LOL. I've also tried and failed with Obsession, Lost Ruins of Arnak, Viticulture, and Ark Nova. I don't know if any of the games I like would qualify as Euros. I like Castles of Burgundy, Agricola, and Feast for Odin. Are those Euros?
Those three games are certainly euros! I think you just need a proper teach for those other ones. Obsession is simple in execution, while the others you listed are more complex.
I took a closer look at the new version and you’re right! The artists for both versions have made some great board game art. I’m going to stick with the old version and keep my eye out for expansions.
Great list! First video I've encountered from y'all and I enjoyed it. Subscribed! I pretty much agree with your whole list, though I will admit that I haven't quite found what elevates Obsession. I unfortunately have not enjoyed my time with Teotihuacan even though I was super excited for it since Tzolkin is what i often refer to as my favorite game (though I doubt it truly is anymore) and the mechanisms sound like they should be great.
For me (Jesse), Obsession is a strange anomaly. My game group can be a bit theatrical, so the theme comes alive when we play. None of us are into the Pride and Prejudice shows, but for some reason, we roll with it. If you slap another theme on this game, I think it would be quite forgettable.
Ngl, the podcast style and aesthetic is incredibly grating on my eyes and ears. I can't help but associate it with dudes who made misogyny their whole personality. Not saying anything about you two personally obviously.

I really really like your definition. And I like that it doesn't exclude games with a strong theme.

Just played la granja yesterday for the first time and loved it!
Orleans, Tiletum, Hansa Teutonica
I haven’t played Tiletum, but I keep hearing good things. Orleans was on my top 10, so I kept it off this list to make things interesting for myself.

Have you tried Speicherstadt? It's a feld that nobody talks about but is wonderful. It's one of my favorite euros!

Don't replace Village with new edition. It looks terrible. Old art is much superior.

Those dudes have more curtains and LED lighting than we do! 😂😉
@@IHeartBoardGames fair call, I'll try to focus on that. Haha.
