  • Been asked if my cook kit has evolved. Not too much. Pretty much the same since last time I filmed it in 2011.

  • @timwarneka5681
    @timwarneka5681 2 года назад

    Thanks for the video, sir. Funny story time! I, too, copied your cook kit and love it. (Minor modifications: (1) I tried making a Foster's beer can cup. Failed twice. Replaced that with a tin can cup with a silicon wrist-band lip protector and holder. (2) I can never find level ground when I camp. So I also added wire mesh pot holder to help support the 'feest alcohol stove.) Tested it at home several times by boiling water. Here's the fun part -- took the cook kit out for the first time this past weekend. Brought a sandwich for a cold dinner. Set the (unused) cook kit & bag on a rock by the fire pit so it would be ready to cook breakfast and tea in the AM. Slept well in my new WB hammock (thanks for the recommendation, Shug!). Got up. MY. COOK. KIT. WAS. GONE!. I can only surmise that an animal absconded with it! I'm new to hammock camping, but I have backpacked for years. I've never had my cook kit touched. Lesson learned. FROM NOW ON, KIDS, HANG YOUR COOK KIT WITH YOUR FOOD BAG.

    Hey that is a great video. Funny your cook kit is basicly made up of the same ideas as mine. The only extra element I have added to mine is an x cup which I use as a spare coffee mug and measuring cup. I use a small Mors pot and a GSI minimalist for my base. In winter I add in my Primus Multi fuel for cooking on. However I am sure you and I could swap kits and not notice the difference.

      I change to white gas stove in Winter.

    No not really. But the thing I like about you is you are very pragmatic. Your not telling people they have to go buy xyz then and then mnp every other week. I have a SS cup that weights the same as your pot and have a lid made out of a guitar string tin. Thanks for a great video.

    I love my cook-kit, well dialled-down now. Evernew Ti spirit stove, trivets, titanium windscreen, wooden spoon handle (for stirring), titanium spoon, clipper lighter, two ounce bottle of fuel (bio-ethanol), all fit inside an Evernew Titanium solo set (750ml pot, 400ml mug). In a stuff sack, without fuel, it's 300 grams dead. Twas SHUG that got me into alcohol stoves, his talk of preferring the peace compared to the hiss of gas.

    over the years I have built more than a dozen different kits, still, have six or so different ones I kept around to loan to family and friends, my main kit for several years has been a near carbon copy of your kit, it does the job and does it well, lots of fancy gizmos and gadgets out there but in the end... we are boiling water for crying out loud lol

    I've debated that snow peaks 900 kit for awhile just to get the egg pan. Right now I just do eggs in a freezer bag dipped down in the perfect boil... it's good that way for scrambled but I like dippy eggs too!

      shugemery looking forward to it. I forget if it ever came up with the Foster pot. What do you do about the lining of the can? I doubt that's heat stable. "Aluminium" is of course okay for high heat cooking.

    • @shugemery
      @shugemery  5 лет назад

      I read a lot of different opinions on that. Been drinking out of mine a long time. But only on backpacking trips. Maybe I am DOOMED!!!

    • @Anand-qb1wp
      @Anand-qb1wp 5 лет назад

      shugemery we are all doomed by death. Some sooner than others. I would like to forestall mine. Hah! I know there are people who will chain smoke into their 90's. On the whole, I am probably not that extra ordinary. So I eat more fiber than I enjoy and avoid can linings not made for heat applications.
      On an interesting note, I once put about two dozen cans of Coke in storage for over a year. When I got to them a bunch of them had leaked out. I spoke with a Coke sales rep about the expiration dates on Coke products and asked how Coke can expire. He explained it's the packaging that expires. Coke dissolves the plastic of the bottles and the can lining. I drink much less Coke now, but that's because the sugar is more dangerous than the acid.

    • @shugemery
      @shugemery  5 лет назад

      Yessir. Life will kill you.
      I don't smoke anymore, drink anymore, watch my diet more than folks think (I only like to film the fun stuff...no one likes healthy food crammed down their maw).
      My skin will more than likely kill me before all the other stuff I dance with will.
      Or a bear.
      Of haint.
