    I just want to say thank you for all the videos you’ve done Shug. You’ve eased the hammock learning curve a great deal for this camper! Shug keep up the good work. Hammocking is on the rise and in no small part to your support. You have shown how to tie the marlin spike several times and are still willing to take the time to show those new to the hobby. That is what makes you an icon for hammocking.

    Thanks for the video, as always! This night was a quiet one in the woods, with ZERO wind and a gentle rain on and off. It felt safe to take the "porch-mode" to the extreme by mounting the ridge of the tarp insanely high (and the foot-end even higher) and then fixing the all lines to other trees. From a reclined position I got a great view of the surroundings. Didnt feel as if the tarp was up at all. (Oh, and by the way; I tried the idea from an earlier video of securing the pillow from a line to preventing it from disappearing down to the back . Two words: "Thank you!")

    Great video. One comment on the half pitch though. I have had rain start falling while in this mode and because the un-pitched end is upside down over the pitched end, the inside of the tarp will get wet on the un-pitched side. To remedy this I place the un-pitched end underneath the pitched end and steak it down. It's not as tight as going over the top of the tarp but if you are a heavy sleeper and don't wake up before it's already raining it helps.

    Just bought a 10x10 tatp for multiple use . Tent and hammock.
    I feel like i wasted money .
    Becouse I did not get exactly what I wanted . So much gear out there , and most is exspencive.

    Something that I like to do with a half-pitch is I will use long lines and an extra stake. I run my lines back across the top, around the stakes and up to the hammock. If I have to put it out I pull my lines from the hammock and tie them to the extra stake I put in the ground next to the hammock. You have to have stakes with the little lip on the top. Also, when I hear "early" I think of Early Cuyler from squidbillies...love it.

    Hey Shug gotta say another great video, not having done much camping growing up and not unsuccessful outings than good ones is discouraging, but you videos have given me the confidence to go out and try things again. One problem I have had in the past and you have kinda mentioned but not really videoed is how you store your gear and prepare your gear before the trip. Example do you keep tarps, hammocks, sleeping bag/ quilts packed in bags compressed or hanging? And how are you preparing the clothing soak of clothes? Do you water proof often or ever? What order/orientation do you pack your bag both before the trip and during. Thanks for the great videos and keeping things secure in sector 7.

      Here is how I load a pack....ruclips.net/video/_szK47Lwu3g/видео.html
      I keep my gear in bins. All my down items like top quilts and UQs hang in my Nut Hut uncompressed.
      Hammocks and tarps are dry and packed in a plastic drawer ready to go.
      When I spray my clothes with permethrin I just hang them outside and spray and let dry.
      I never waterproof...I but gear that us well water-proofed.

    I'm glad the thing with that word is cleared up because I too was infected with that particularly maladaptive vocalization. My wife insisted that I get an MRI with contrast to rule out Early (EARLY!) Onset Dementia. Oh, and that fellow, Spassio, is quite contentious. You should have told him that you'll neither show him a slow, tarp pitch, nor a fast, tarp pitch. But, instead, you'll show him a half-fast tarp pitch. Cheeky bloke.

    love the porch mode Shug.. but when looking up at the stars ..I get about 30 seconds as I fall asleep too quick, lying in my hammock is just to comfy to stay awake :-) "EARLY"...I have to admit I too repeat the word early when said mostly under my breath, (totally due to watching your vids) I know you have said before "it don't mean nuffin" but it is a little private joke i have with those whom i consider the unconverted or more commonly known as ground dwellers.....LOL

    Shrug, thank you so much for all your videos. I am new to hammock camping and on a very tight budget. I picked up a off the shelf hammock from a big box store. I can't get a good lay, I'm 5'9" I have tried everything. Does a longer hammock make a difference? I where can I get one super cheap? Thanks for all your help, love your videos.

    Like the idea of using shock cord to help keep the tarp taught. What kind of knot did you use to secure it to the tarp line down low?

    • @shugemery
      @shugemery  5 лет назад +1

      A clove hitch.

    Sometimes when I hang with just our Turtledog stand, the sun will beat down hard on the tarp. Is there a way we can incorporate one them car window sun shades/Reflectix into the tarp? Thanks.

    Maybe I missed where ya said it, but what’s the little extra loop in the guy line for near where you make the marlin spike knot/(hitch?) for your ground stake?

    • @shugemery
      @shugemery  5 лет назад

      Just a loop I tie in the line to quick stake. I do show it on the video.
